Sorry this chapter is SO short. This is a lot of information though. And a note... I haven't read the books this information came from in YEARS. If I got something wrong, I am so sorry. Please feel free to message me with any information I did get wrong.
"It's about time I reveal your full ancestry," Andreth said looking at the boys as they both looked shocked.
The twins stayed silent as they sat down, not knowing what to fully expect.
"We will start with your mother, Elwing. Your mother had a set of twin brother. Their names were Elurin and Eluréd. Neither of them have been seen for the last one hundred and eleven years. Elwing, Elurin, and Eluréd were the children of Dior and Nimloth. Nimloth was the daughter of Galathil, son of Galadhon, son of Elmo. Elmo was the younger brother of Elwë and Olwë."
"Didn't Elwë go by another name?" Elrond asked.
"He did," Andreth smiled. "He went by the name Thingol. Thingol fell in love with Melian, a Maiar of Yavanna."
"Yavanna is over the growth of all the fruits, trees, and anything else that grows in Arda," Elrond said with a smile.
"Yes she is. In a way, Melian is kin to Yavanna. Melian and Thingol went on to have a single daughter named Lúthien. Because Lúthien was half Maiar, she had very powerful magic in her singing and dancing. One day a mortal man named Beren came across Lúthien and fell in love with her. Thingol did not want Beren to marry Lúthien and thought if he set, what he felt to be, an impossible task, then this would not happen. He asked Beren to bring him one of the Silmarils that Morgoth had in his Iron Crown.
"It was a very hard task that took the help of Lúthien, Finrod, and Huan, but he got one. Upon doing so, Carcharoth bit off his hand and swallowed the Silmaril. He went back to Thingol and told his tale. When a hunt for Carcharoth gathered, Beren participated and the wolf was slain. Beren was mortally wounded and the Silmaril was recovered. Before this hunt, Lúthien and Beren had a single child named Dior."
"Wait..." Elros said looking confused. "Dior as in our grandfather and the husband of Nimloth?"
"The same Dior who was also the second and last king of Doriath."
"So our family on our mother's side is very close together," Elrond said looking at the family tree Andreth had revealed.
"Very. Now your father's side has a lot more history to it. Your father, Eärendil, was the son of Tuor and Idril. Idril was the daughter of Turgon, the king of Gondolin. Tuor was a mortal man who had met Ulmo. Ulmo gave him a cloak to shield him from the eyes of his enemies and sent him on a quest to speak to Turgon. He was told to warn him on the fall of Gondolin and remind him of the doom of the Noldor.
"Gondolin did fall, but Tuor, Idril, Eärendil, and roughly eight hundred others survived. Tuor was the son of Huor and Rían, daughter of Belegund, son of Bregolas. Bregolas was the third born child and oldest son of Bregor. Bregor's youngest and second son was Barahir, the father of Beren."
"Wait..." Elrond said interrupting again. "So Bregor's family is on both sides of our parents tree?"
"That's correct, Elrond. This is where things get complicated. Turgon was the second son of Fingolfin, son of Finwë. Finwë was married twice and produced children with both women. The first marriage was to Míriel, who mothered Fëanor. After her death, Finwë married Indis, who mothered Fingolfin, Finarfin, Findis, and Irimë. Finwë was the first High King of the Noldor. Fëanor, the second High King of the Noldor, created the Silmarils and had seven sons."
"We know some of them," Elrond muttered.
"I know and even though you do not want to talk about it, we will in a minute. As I was saying, Fëanor had seven sons, Fingolfin had three sons and one daughter, Finarfin had three sons and one daughter, while Findis and Irimë had no children. After Fëanor died, the title of High King of the Noldor belonged to his eldest son, Maedhros, but soon after, he was captured by Morgoth. His cousin, Fingon, came to his rescue. In return for saving him, Maedhros gave the title to Fingon's father, Fingolfin, who became the first High King of the Noldor in Beleriand. The title was then passed to Fingon, who passed it to his brother, Turgon. When Turgon passed the title went to Turgon's cousin's grandson, Gil-Galad."
"How exactly is Gil-Galad tied in? I know he said he is related through Finwë's son."
"Finwë's youngest son was Finarfin. His children were Finrod, Aegnor, Angrod, and Galadriel. Angrod had a single child with Eldalótë named Orodreth. Orodreth had two children, Gil-Galad and Finduilas. Finduilas was betrothed to Gwindor, but passed away before she could marry him."
Elrond turned to Elros in shock at this information.
"Let us go back to Fëanor's seven sons. Fëanor had Maedhros, Maglor, Celegorm, Caranthir, Curufin, Amrod, and Amras. When the Silmarils were stolen from Fëanor, Fëanor and his sons swore an oath, vowing to fight anyone and everyone who withheld the Silmarils from them. Dior received the Silmaril from his parents, Beren and Lúthien. When the sons of Fëanor found out, they demanded it be returned to them, but Dior refused. All seven sons went into battle in which Celegorm, Caranthis, and Curufin fell as well as Dior and Nimloth. Elwing took the Silmaril and escaped. The remaining brothers tried again thirty-two years later to obtain the Silmaril and this time they failed as well. When Elwing realized they had captured you two and were coming for her, she decided to throw herself into the sea with the Silmaril where Ulmo changed her into a white bird. She then came to your father."
"She got reunited with our dad?" Elros smiled for the first time.
"She did, though I do not know anything else that happened to her," Andreth admitted. "Do either of you have any other questions?"
"Are any of Fëanor's sons still alive?" Elrond asked.
"Amrod and Amras both died during the third kinslaying when Maglor captured died about thirty-three years ago when he and Maglor stole back the last two Silmarils from Morgoth. When they took the Silmarils, their hands burned due to the evil deeds they committed trying to regain them. Maedhros through himself and the Silmaril into a fiery chasm. Maglor threw his into the sea. Nothing else is known about Maglor's fate."
"Is Maglor the last of Fëanor's living descendants?"
"No. Fëanor has a single grandchild named Celebrimbor. He was a jewel smith for King Turgon and survived the fall of Gondolin. Not much is known about him since."
"Is he the same as the other?"
"Celebrimbor refused to be associated with his father's and uncle's deeds," Andreth answered. "Do you worry they will come back for you?"
Elrond simply nodded causing Elros to even look away.
"Neither of you have anything to worry about. Let us just say that Maglor does come back for you. Both of you are adults now. On top of that, you are both protected by Gil-Galad. Elros, after you leave, you can still reach out if you have any problems."
"Thank you, Andreth," Elros replied calmly.
"What else can I answer for you?" Andreth asked.
"Nothing I can think of," Elrond said calmer now as Elros agreed with him.
"Elrond, you are dismissed. Elros, I do want to talk to you alone for a minute," Andreth said making Elrond confused. "It is about his choice alone."
"I'll see you in a bit," Elros told his brother.
Elrond nodded and got up leaving the library silently, trying to understand why Fëanor's sons would do such a thing. Reaching their room, he sat down and took a bit to process the information.
