"Who is it?"
"It's me dad. Tetra. You remember me right?"
"I don't have a daughter."
"Dad! Come on, it's raining out!"
"I don't have a daughter!"
"Damn it old man! This is what I get for caring about you! Fuck."
"Din damn it child, you curse like a fucking sailor!"
"I learned from the best didn't I?"
"…I'm going to regret this, come in-wipe your filthy feet first!"
"Farore fucking thank you."
"You are damn welcome, bitch."
Tetra stepped inside the small hut, shivering and soaked. Her father looked her up and down, muttering to himself and to no one.
"What the hell happened to you?" he demanded pushing her down into a chair.
"Well, I was about a mile away when the rain started. Then I had to run through your little yard protection. And finally you forced me to stand in the rain for a full thirty minuets before you let me in. What do you think happened?" Tetra scrunched her nose as he set a bowl of Nayru knew what in front of her.
"Well, I obviously don't know do I!" He hissed as he plopped himself down with his own little bowl.
"Obviously you do know! You didn't before, have you forgotten proper grammar while you while you've been out here?" Tetra tried a spoonful of the putrid smelling glop and almost vomited. "What the hell is this crap?"
"Hmp! I never…she's so damn rude…picks it up from her mother…well I don't know!" The older man looked up at Tetra through his long bangs. "It's your mothers recipe for porridge."
Tetra slowly nodded her head. "Mother couldn't cook very well, could she?" With a small gulp of the musty air for a stealer, Tetra forced another bite down her throat.
"No, that whore couldn't have cook to save her life. Then again, neither can this old bastard you see before you." His smile was full of rotting teeth. "I am also guessing you can't either."
Tetra found that his breath added another thing to attempt to not vomit at. With a small nod Tetra began to wonder what drug her back here year, after year, after year.
"What the hell are you 'visiting' me for anyhow." The man attempted to swat an invisible fairy. "Will you leave me alone…bite me…I hate you too!"
Tetra sighed and pulled the mainly dry parcel out of her pack. "It's your birthday. So here." Tetra held it full across the dimly lit table.
"What the hell is that?" The old man hissed leaning back from it.
"It's a fucking present, and no, I'm not telling you." Tetra leaned farther across the table almost into the porridge.
For a moment he didn't take it then, so suddenly it scared Tetra, he snatched it from her hand and began ripping the brown paper off. "Wouldn't expect you to tell me a thing. I'm not two you know. I'm a full-grown adult. An adult! I'm all grown up!" He held the large gift quietly now, tears brimming in his tired eyes.
Tetra quickly moved around the table and gave him a hug. "I know you are dad. You are a fully-grown man. I know you are." She gently kissed the top of his thinning hair. "Do you like it?"
Jumping up he quickly put it right next to all the other ancient, dusty books he owned. Backing up he grasped her arm firmly and with tears streaking his smiling face said, "Yes."
