Old Memories
Prologue
"My life is none of you're business!"
"Why can't you just stop being so stubborn and irresponsible and tell me what you did!"
Jack and Kate were arguing in the Hatch. Jack had brought up Kate's past and she obviously didn't want to talk about it.
"What happened to 'we all deserve second chances'? Huh Jack? You're such a hypocrite!"
"Well, you seem determined not to change, even after you've been given a choice! You keep lying! Like with the Marshal's case! Do you care about anyone other than yourself!"
"Don't you dare tell me that I never cared! I cared enough to go with you to the cockpit! I cared enough to help Sayid try to send out a distress signal when I didn't even have to waste my time! I care enough to go and hunt boar for the others seeing as I don't even eat meat! I cared enough to try and dig you out of that cave-in without taking a single break for three hours! I cared enough to deliver water to the people at the beach from the caves almost everyday! I cared enough to help you when you went after Charlie and Claire when Ethan took them! I cared enough to keep Sun's secret! I cared enough to help you try and trap Ethan! I cared enough to waste an entire day and a half tracking a boar with Sawyer, who was convinced that it was out to get him, just so that I could get the gun back from him for you! I cared enough to deliver Aaron when I was so scared of mucking it up that all I wanted to do was to run! I cared enough to risk losing what little trust you had in me by drugging you so that you didn't kill yourself by overworking! I cared enough to go with you to the Black Rock to get the dynamite! I cared enough to go with Locke's suggestion for me to go down the Hatch first, even though I was terrified! I care enough to pick fruit for everyone almost every single morning! I cared enough to go against your "orders" and follow you, Sawyer and Locke on the search for Michael, to make sure that you got back safely incase anything happened to Locke! So don't you dare tell me that I only care about myself!"
Kate was in hysterics, and was on the verge of tears. Jack softened, he bit his lip and started, "Kate, I-"
"Just forget it!" She snapped and turned to leave, but she was so distraught that she forgot that the table was just behind her. She tripped over the leg of the table, fell to the ground and the Marshal's case, which was open on the table, fell to the floor and…
A false bottom fell out revealing…
A/N: I'm having a bit of a dilemma with where this story goes. It could be:
Short, where just one very special item from Kate's past is revealed and we see her explain the story behind it to Jack.
Long, where lots of items, including the special one, are in the case, and each chapter is about one or two different items, with the last chapter being about the special one.
So what do you think? Please let me know, as I can't decide!
