I have no idea where this came from and I don't care. Enjoy!
His Daughter
Chapter One
The candles in his room flickered, and he cried in agony once again. His being trembled. He was so exhausted, but despite his best efforts, sleep did not visit him easily. Here he laid, one of the Legendary Sanin, constantly in pain. Constantly thinking about that day. And constantly thinking about a child. And it wasn't Uchiha, either.
He didn't know how he missed it. He was always so careful when it came to gathering information, both before and after he left the Hidden Leaf. And yet, somehow, he didn't find out until thirteen years later. The Mikoyo Clan's secret, and the legacy of their late heir.
Orochimaru first took note of the girl while he was disguised as a genin from the Hidden Grass Village, waiting outside the Forest of Death. There were several genin, none he took much note of outside of Uchiha. However, of all the female genin, she stood out like a sore thumb. She was covered head to toe. In fact, the only thing he could see of her body was her long black hair.
She wore a plain red kimono with a black obi. The kimono skirt only went down to her knees, but instead of the ordinary ninja sandals, she wore white socks with black slippers on her feet. If that weren't odd enough, she wore some black undergarment that served to cover her arms and legs, as well as a mask to cover her nose and mouth. Her headband was black and was worn on her forehead, and she wore tinted goggled that served to cover the remainder of her face. Finally, she wore black gloves, leaving no skin bare for anyone to see. If not for the girl's name and figure, she could have easily confused everyone as a boy.
"Hakujahime, are you sure you'll be all right in that?" One of her teammates asked her.
Hakujahime, as the mysterious girl was called, had one girl and one boy for teammates. The boy wore a tight purple shirt, a navy-colored hakama, and a white sash around his waist. His hair was scruffy and brown, his skin was tan, and his eyes were blue.
The female, the one who asked the question, had plain skin, light blue hair pulled back into a ponytail, and bright pink eyes. She wore a white shirt with a red sash around her waist. She had bandages on both hands up to her elbows, and she wore a plain pair of black shorts and blue sandals.
She lifted her head. "Why wouldn't I be, Momo? This is what I wear on all of our missions," she said.
"Quit being a bitch, Hakujahime!" The boy said.
"Tareiru, cut it out!" Momo said before looking back at her disguised teammate. "I thought you would at least change your shoes. If that place is as bad as it looks, I don't think plain combat slippers are a good choice," Momo said.
Hakujahime hummed to herself, looking at the forest before looking back at Momo. "I appreciate your concern, Momo. And you do make a fair point. Unfortunately, I don't think there's time to run home, now. I'll just have to make do with what I have," she said, looking ahead as the proctors set up to hand out the scrolls.
Tareiru growled, turning his back to the girl and giving her an annoyed glare. "I swear, if we get held back because you hurt your feet, I'm never gonna forgive you," he said.
"I'm sure I'll live," Hakujahime replied.
She and Tareiru shared a glare.
At that point, Orochimaru remembered thinking how odd the girl was for a few moments, but brushed her off soon after. At the time, he thought the girl was irrelevant, and focused his attention on Uchiha. However, he later found that there was more to this girl than meets the eye.
The third exam preliminaries was where he found her more worthy of his attention. For no other reason than the family name displayed on the screen when she was sent to fight first.
The door to his room opened, revealing Kabuto, his right hand man and one of his most trusted servants. The boy placed him on bed rest once they got back from the Hidden Leaf Village. The plan to destroy the Leaf was thwarted, and as if that weren't bad enough, his arms were constantly in pain. The medicine he'd been taking only did so much to ease his pain, and he seldom slept sound. And he found that when he did sleep, he thought back to that girl again.
"Lord Orochimaru," Kabuto called when he was at the foot of the Sanin's bed. He was carrying another tray with medicine vials. Not the same as the medicine before. "I have something for you. It's a new medication I finished. I've tested it many times now. It's a much stronger pain medication, and its only side effect is drowsiness. Which is perfect, since you need more rest," he said, carrying the tray to his lord's bedside table.
Orochimaru glared at him. "It had better work. My arms burn more with each passing day. And seeing how you're bringing me this, I assume she hasn't been found yet," he said, his steadily sounding more raspy as he spoke to the assistant.
Kabuto smirked at his lord. "Not yet, but the team I sent out is following a pretty fresh lead. It won't be much longer," he said, preparing a dose.
Orochimaru breathed heavily, cursing his wretched state in silence. Then a flash of a memory came to him. The moment he saw that girl's face. He had prepared to see many things when he returned to the Leaf, but that girl was not one of them. It genuinely surprised him, and if he hadn't remained quiet, he would have blown his cover while sitting next to his late sensei.
"Kabuto," he said to the assistant, his eyes closing and his tone of voice different. He was calmer now, the girl predominating his thoughts. The images of her fighting abilities. The ambitions she spoke of. Her words about her clan. And her words about him.
"That girl. You tried to take her, did you not?" Orochimaru asked.
Kabuto hummed confused a moment, then his voice calmed. "I assume you're referring to Hakujahime Mikoyo. Yes, I did. What of it?" He asked his lord.
Orochimaru let out a low growl, his voice wheezing. "Tell me. How is it in all these years, no one knew what she was? I would have snatched her years ago, had I known," he said, his weak hands tightening into fists.
Kabuto stared at Orochimaru for a moment, his eyes widened a bit. He doesn't really... No. Not Lord Orochimaru. He couldn't care less about her, he thought, smirking.
"If I had to guess, it's because her true appearance had never been seen by anyone outside the Mikoyo household. Either she was forced to, or she did so of her own accord because she's insecure. I would have to collect more data on her to know for certain. I didn't think much of her until the third exam, after she showed her face," he said, approaching his lord with the new medication.
He received a glare. "You're telling me that you don't have any information about that child?" Orochimaru yelled.
Kabuto frowned. "Unfortunately, no. To maintain my cover, I couldn't afford to draw too much attention to myself. I only encountered her a handful of times, and none of these times bore much information for me to take in. That's why I tried to capture her during the assault. I had a feeling you'd want to learn more about her when the mission was over. However, she possesses a lot of skill that I didn't expect from a genin," he said.
Then he looked down at his lord with a smile. "However, if you like, I could always send a team to keep an eye on her. I know that she must have surprised you as much as she surprised me that day."
Orochimaru's gaze hardened. "You're the one who failed in gathering data on her. I expect you to make up for that without being seen. Learn everything you can. You have less than three days to get there and back," he said to him.
"Very well then. Just take your medicine, and I'll head out at once. Its effects should hold until I return," Kabuto said, his expression not faltering.
Orochimaru was silent a moment, glaring harshly at Kabuto for what seemed like ages before nodding. He took his medicine without complaint, and fell back in bed.
Kabuto began to walk out of the room, knowing that Orochimaru was already feeling the effects of his treatment. The burning in his arms became less noticeable, and true to the boy's word, the Sanin felt sleepy within seconds.
The last clear thing Orochimaru heard was the door closing, and sleep began to take him. But in that moment, between sleep and consciousness, the face of a beautiful woman appeared in his mind. With rosy cheeks, bright blue eyes, and long brown hair held back in a braid. She was wearing a blue kimono, with a pendant around her neck. The pendant he gave her.
His lips tugged into a small smile. I'm surprised, Shiramiya. To think that you kept Hakujahime, even in spite of everything, he thought. He felt his smile relax. I wonder who she's more like. You, or me.
And with that thought, he drifted into a deep sleep. Dreaming of the chunin exams. The day he first saw her. His little girl.
Kind of short beginning, but hey, this isn't territory I know all that well. I've just been watching Naruto on repeat. Figured I'd give this a shot. Let me know if you like it.
