Cars are parked all down the street. People are hanging out on the front lawn with drinks in their hands. The front door wide open as others come and go. The sound of music echoes into the street, singing along with the loud laughter and cheers from classmates showing up. Barry parks the car then looks over at Caitlin. He can see her fidgeting with her hands while biting her lower lip, so he lets out a heavy sigh.
"Cait, we don't have to go. I told you I don't mind just staying in at your place, sitting on the couch watching a movie," he bargains.
She shakes her head, looking over at him. "No, it's okay Barry. We need to live outside our comfort zones sometimes. I'll be okay, just as long as you are by my side," she smiles, reaching for his hand.
He squeezes her hand after placing a delicate kiss on it. "Always," he breathes then leans over to give her a short yet passionate kiss on the lips. "I love you," he whispers on her lips.
"I love you," she whispers back then entwines her fingers with his hair to bring him back for one more kiss.
"Hey! The bedrooms are inside!" Iris laughs after knocking on the car window, scaring the couple. Barry glares at her while Caitlin covers her face with her hands from embarrassment. "Are you two coming or not?"
Barry rolls his eyes then looks over at Caitlin silently asking if she was ready. Her smile is the only answer he needs. He gets out to make a dash to open the door for his girl. She blushes in gratitude and takes his hand in hers when he offers it.
Iris admires the couple, happy for her two best friends. It had been a long time coming. The three of them have been friends since kindergarten. As they got older, she saw, firsthand, the two falling in love with one another - it was perfect. Now, as seniors, that love has blossomed. It's so cute that it's sickening.
"I haven't seen you two all summer and that's the welcome I get?" Iris sasses playfully.
Barry scoffs, "What do you expect? We were in the middle of something."
"Don't mind him, how was cheer camp?" Caitlin beams.
The trio walks and talks, catching each other up on their summer adventures. With Iris' position as the new head cheerleader, she took it upon herself to practice all summer long at an intense cheer camp in National City. Barry informs her of his gratuitous track training including the two-a-days his coach demanded from the whole team. However, he knew all this training was to prepare him for college scouts and he's praying one of them will offer him a full ride. All the while, Caitlin explains she has been studying and working on school work to get ahead for their coming senior year. Taking several dual credits and AP courses, she can't risk falling behind or failing. However, Barry comes over after every practice to convince her of taking a break. It was just yesterday they were discussing the party at hand by a classmate of theirs, who wanted to start the new school on the right foot, so here they are.
"I still can't believe Caitlin Snow is at a party," Iris teases as they walk through the threshold of the front door.
She smiles, shrugging her shoulders. "You and me both," she laughs. "I even surprised him when I asked if we should go," she explains, pointing next to her.
"What did you expect," he smiles, pecking her cheek. "My cute, reserved, homebound girl suggesting to go to a party is completely out of character. My mind was blown," he chuckles, nuzzling his nose against her cheek as his arms wrap around her waist to hold her close.
Iris playfully rolls her eyes at the scene in front of her as Caitlin relaxes into Barry's hold. "Okay lovebirds, someone of us single people here get nauseous with all this fluff," she jokes, gesturing with her hand.
Barry gives a playful glare, before kissing Caitlin's temple and releasing his grasp on his girlfriend. "I'm gonna grab a drink, you ladies want anything?"
"Surprise me," Iris smiles as Caitlin asks for a bottle of water. "You are wild Caitlin," she winks with a laugh.
As Barry walks over to the kitchen, a roar of cheers sound from his teammates with drinks in their hands. "Barry Allen in the house!" they chant, making the girls giggle from their spot. High fives, fist bumps, and manly hugs go around as his fellow teammates are happy to see their friend.
Caitlin watches in admiration, reflecting on her thoughts. She knows that her boyfriend is one of the most popular guys in school, being the track star that he is, as well as the school heartthrob, looking the way he is with his James Dean hair, 1,000-watt smile, and toned slim figure. She sees how other girls look at her with jealousy that Barry has eyes only for her and how they always try to catch his eye to no avail. She is his and he is hers. However, as she continues to watch her face falls, thinking about how she, in a way, holds him back from being the social butterfly that he is.
"Hey," Iris snaps, "He loves you, don't forget that," she smiles giving Caitlin's shoulder a tight squeeze.
Before she can reply, her friend is called by some other cheerleaders to join them in the living room to dance. Caitlin can see the apprehension in her friend's eyes and gives her a confident smile. "I'll be fine," she smiles. "Go have fun! Besides Barry will be back in a bit. I can take care of myself just fine," she pushes, nudging Iris.
She nods, slowly walking towards the small group of girls as the song changes causing everyone to join in on the fun.
Caitlin giggles to herself, watching her friend dance. She looks over her shoulder and sees Barry is still with his friends, talking and laughing. With a small smile, she looks around her surroundings and decides to sit on the stairs to wait and watch classmates enjoy themselves. A slight sigh leaves her lips with a hand on her chin.
"What is the most beautiful girl at our school sitting all alone?" a raspy voice rings in her ears.
Caitlin looks up and sees Hunter Zolomon, the school's quarterback, standing in front of her. She rolls her eyes, not in the mood to interact with him. "I'm waiting on my BOYFRIEND," she emphasized.
He chuckles at her response and leans forward, close to her face, with his hands on the railing and wall for support, trapping her in place. "That's cute," he smirks. "Making up lies to make me jealous," he leans close to her ear, "adorable."
His voice sends chills down her spine but, she didn't want to show him any fear. "Leave me alone Hunter," her voice shakes as she curses herself for sounding so weak.
He chuckles, "Come on now, Caity Cat, I've seen the way you look at me with those doe eyes. You want me. Just admit it and I will rock your world," he breathes as his fingers trace her jawline.
She swats his hand away and pushes herself up a few stairs to create distance, but he follows her with each step. "Get away from me!" she screams hoping someone hears, but the music is too loud. "Stop! Leave me alone!" she cries trying to push him back - no avail.
"The more you resist, the more fun you make this," his voice chuckles, darkly.
She looks into his black eyes full of lust and desire. Scared. She tries to kick him back, but his hand holds her legs down. "No! Let me go!" she screams. Just then the music changes causing a quick sound of silence and she took her chance. "BARRY! HELP!" she screams at the top of her lungs.
The party came to a standstill as everyone turns to the commotion on the stairs. Iris' eyes widen in horror as she races to her friend's aid but, is cut off when Barry appears, flashing through the crowd. He grabs Hunter's shoulder, pulling him back, to punch him in the face. Hunter releases his hold on Caitlin, stumbling on the stairs. She is quick to her feet, rushing into her boyfriend's arms.
Barry holds her tight in his arms, whispering into her ear, "It's okay, I'm here baby."
She buries her face into his chest, her tears soaking his shirt, as she mumbles, "He tried to... he tried to..." Not finding the strength to finish that sentence.
He tenses in place, anger filling his eyes. He looks at Iris, determination clear on his face, silently asking a question to which she nods. He kisses the top of Caitlin's head and softly pushes her into Iris' arms to turn his attention to Hunter. "If you ever touch my girlfriend again, I will kill you!" he shouts.
Hunter chuckles, massaging his face, "Is that the best you can do Allen?" He stands at the bottom of the stairs with a smirk on his face as he glances at Caitlin. "She was asking for it, begging me, wanting to know what it's like to be with a real man," his smirk growing.
"You son of a bitch!" Barry snaps, attacking Hunter. The momentum of his lunge causes Hunter to fall back on the stairs with Barry's fists colliding with Hunter's face. Hunter tries to get the upper hand, grabbing his wrist to punch him back and flip them over so Hunter was on top.
A crowd forms around the two men, chanting and cheering, while some pull out phones to record the event. Caitlin struggles to free herself from Iris' grip, screaming for the fighting to stop. Tears falling down her face, her throat becoming sore, and fear coursing through her body.
With Hunter continuously punching him, Barry knees him in the crotch knocking Hunter off-balance finding a slight escape. As he stands, the anger is still coursing through him causing him to lash out. He kicks Hunter in the stomach causing him to hunch over in pain. In retaliation, Hunter grips his ankle, pulling Barry back down, his chin colliding with a stair. He looks down and kicks Hunter in the face knocking him out. He gathers himself before gripping Hunter by his shirt, "You are never going to hurt her again," he growls. Before he could do anything else, a faint cry catches his attention. He looks over the rail at his girlfriend, entangled in his best friend's arms as she holds Caitlin back to the best of her ability.
The tears clouding her eyes, she pleas with him, "Barry, please no," she cries shaking her head.
He looks back at Hunter as he starts to come too. He huffs in frustration, feeling conflicted but in the end, knows what to do. He slowly releases his hold on the guy and steps down to the bottom stair, giving Hunter one last glance. "Stay away from us or next time I'll finish what I started," he growls then walks over to Caitlin and Iris.
"Barry," her voice barely audible as she wraps her arms around his neck. Finding comfort breathing in his smell and letting go of the breath she had been holding on to.
"I got you... It's okay," he whispers into her ear with an arm wraps securely around her waist while his hand smooths her hair. "It's okay," he repeats, kissing her temple. He looks around, noticing the stares from everyone. The fear in their eyes, creating a feeling of annoyance. He pulls back to look at Caitlin's face, wiping the loose strands of hair from her face. "Let's go home," he breathes.
She quickly nods her head, intertwining her hand in his as he starts to lead them out the door. The crowd parts letting the couple leave as they continue to stare and murmur under their breaths. Her ear picks up on some of the words, causing her to sulk and hold tighter onto Barry.
"Did you see that?"
"What the hell? Allen snapped!"
"She's not even that pretty to fight over."
"Honestly, Allen could have done so much better than her."
"There goes his spot on the team. Talk about killing his reputation..."
Barry ignores the whispers and rushes Caitlin out the door to his car. Once out of earshot, he feels her push him away. His eyebrows scrunch as the warmth on her hand vanishes. "Cait, I'm sorry I shouldn't have let it get that far..."
She shakes her head, wrapping her arms around her. "I don't think this is going to work, Barry," she croaks, holding back tears.
"Wha- Cait... No, don't say that. I know what I did back there is wrong but, that shouldn't be used to break up," he says reaching for her arms but, she steps away. He frowns, his heart breaking a bit inside. "Cait... Baby -"
"I'm not worth it Barry!" she cries, breaking down in front of him. Her knees feel weak but before they collide with the asphalt, his arms securely wrap around her to hold her up.
"Shhh..." he whispers into her ear, holding her close. He purposely places her ear over his heart. "You hear that? That beats for you and only you, understand?"
She shakes her head, "I'm not worth it Barry. I ruin everything for you," she cries.
"Says who? The idiots in that house?" he snaps, looking down at her face as she avoids eye contact. "Or the idiot I punched in the face?" He slightly smirks but it fades as she remains silent. "Cait," he speaks with such softness as his hand slides up to caress her cheek, wiping away fallen tears. "You are worth everything," he stresses each word by pecking her lips after each.
She sniffs, trying to take in the fresh air while searching his eyes. So many voices are running in her head and his just seems so faint to her. Her teeth sink into her bottom lip but, his thumb respectfully pulls down on her chin to release her tender hold.
"Don't," he breathes. "Don't let their words cloud your mind. Focus on my voice Cait. Listen to me," he begs as his eyes look at her with such love and his thumb grazes her bottom lip. "No matter what the future holds for me, all that matters is having you by my side. You make my life better, happier, and worthwhile," he smiles. "You are my titanium, Cait. I can take all the stares and whispers as long as I have you. You are worthy to me and that's all that matters."
Each word touches her heart - reviving it. Her eyes cloud with tears and she struggles to find the right words to respond. Instead, her hand wraps around his neck pushing his head down so his lips could meet hers. He smiles against her lips, cupping her cheek, and deepening the kiss. She kisses back as the passion intensifies, her fingers playing with the ends of his hair.
"Seriously guys, the backseat would be more appropriate," Iris teases, crossing her arms.
Barry pulls away, keeping his forehead on Caitlin's, and letting a low groan escape. "Why do you have to have the worse timing," he grunts, looking over at her with annoyance.
"Just lucky I guess," she cheekily smirks then looks at Caitlin. "Are you doing okay, hun? I should have never left your side," she frowns.
Caitlin softly nods then looks up to Barry, "Yeah, I'm better. This guy made sure of it," her hand caresses his cheek as she smiles. "My hero," she breathes.
"My titanium," he reminds with a smile, before turning his face to kiss her palm and pulling her close to his chest.
Iris playfully rolls her eyes with a smile, watching in adoration.
"My lovesick nerds."
