Halloween themed
Caitlin curses herself, under her breath, as she tries for the nth time to knock on the door in front of her. She swallows some built up saliva and finds the need to fidget with the hem of her shirt. Part of her feels ridiculous since the other half of the couple's costume isn't here. Then again, she didn't really have any other costume and was not about to show up to Cisco's party in her doctor's coat - again.
"Ugh," she groans and finally bangs on the door. She starts to shift her weight from one foot to the other, waiting, as seconds pass. Just as she is about to turn on her heels to leave, the door opens to reveal her best friend.
"Caitlin! You made it!" he smiles then examines her outfit, "Dressed as Dr. Ellie from Jurassic Park?" he questions.
She runs her fingers through the loose strands of hair, "It was Barry's idea. He was supposed to be Dr. Grant and had a stuffed dinosaur to go with the whole thing," she playfully rolls her eyes. "He begged me for weeks until I caved since Frost was over it."
Cisco chuckles opening the door wider to let her in. "What's with the sailor outfit?" she asks finally looking at her friend's costume.
He rolls his eyes, "I'm Steve from Stranger Things. This was his work uniform and the only outfit Camila, and I agreed on for our couple's costume. I wanted to be a waffle, but she refused to wear a wig," he huffs with frustration.
Caitlin giggles and shakes her head. "I don't blame her. Wigs can be itchy and annoying," she adds subconsciously scratching her scalp, remembering the time she had to pretend to be Earth-2 version of Killer Frost.
"Whatever. I'm over it. Please enjoy yourself and have some fun, will you?" he asks, taking a sip from the cup in his hands. "Drinks are in the kitchen along with some snacks. I will be in the living room with Camila if you want to join us," he smiles with a pat on her shoulder.
"Thank you," she flashes a smile before he walks away.
She bites her lip, taking in her surroundings, and thinking of the situation she has willingly put herself in. Looking around it seems like everyone at this party came with someone - making her miss Barry when more. Granted, he was out of town for an important conference, he could possibly flash over here in a second but, she advised him against it. Even if she slightly wishes he didn't listen to her like he normally does.
"Caitlin!" a cheerful voice calls.
She snaps her head, to shake away her thoughts, and sees where the voice is coming from. A smile reappears on her face, staring at the young brunette that has joined their team. "Allegra, hey!" she smiles before her eyes turn blue with a smirk.
"Nice jacket," Frost adds with a wink before disappearing.
Allegra giggles, "Thanks! I didn't really have a costume so I thought going as my favorite badass would do."
Caitlin chuckles, "You are too kind and have truly made Frost's night. Did you come alone?" She asks looking over her shoulder.
"No," she shyly smiles. "I umm actually came with Emerson. He's the guy Frost tried to help me reconnect with," she bites her lip.
Frost takes over once again with a twinkle in her eye, "I'm proud of you. Finally coming clean?"
"Kinda, we are starting as friends, again, and going from there," she smiles with a hint of blush.
Frost smirks, "Well I wish you the best." She melts away as a young man in a flash shirt walks their way with drinks in each hand.
Allegra looks and smiles seeing her date before turning back to her friend. "Once I told him who I was going as he wanted to match. He thought it would be cute going as our favorite Jitter's drinks," she winks.
Caitlin blushes, giggling, trying to hide the sudden redness in her cheeks. "Adorable," she squeaks before the man is by their sides.
She watches the duo with a permanent smile after being introduced to the young man. Caitlin excuses herself to find the bathroom and that's when something catches her eye. Standing in the background, yet sticking out, is a figure dress in all black with a white, creepy mask on. Shivers run down her spine as it seems the figure is staring at her - watching her. Gulping hesitantly, she looks away to quickly look back to find it gone. With a sigh of relief, she continues to her destination.
"You alright Caity? I felt our heart accelerate - not in a good way," Frost comments with a hint of concern.
"Yeah, I just thought I saw something... I'm fine," she tries to reassure her other half while looking around.
"Hmm... I don't like that answer but fine. I'll be here if you need anything," Frost reminds, before slipping away.
As she continues to enjoy her time with friends, almost every time she looks behind her the same figure is in her peripheral vision. Just standing there, mixing in with the walls and furniture. Several times she considers letting Frost take control but before she can the figure is gone.
"Caitlin, you okay?" Camila asks looking at her with concern.
She bites her lip and slowly nods. "Yeah... I just... I don't know, I keep thinking I'm seeing this man but now, I'm starting to think it's a result of watching that one scary movie with Barry before he left." She playfully rolls her eyes. "I hate scary movies but, he wore me down to watching one with him just so I can bury my face into his chest."
"Ah, an excuse to hold you close and act brave in front of you," Camila asks with an arched eyebrow. "Been there and let me tell you, Cisco failed on both," the girls laugh as Cisco pouts with an eye roll.
"Well, I think I should head out. It's getting late and hopefully, I can catch Barry before he heads to bed," she says with a small smile. "Thank you for the invite Cisco; I had fun."
He smiles, standing up from his seat to give a big hug. "I'm glad. Be careful on your way out. You want me to breach you home?"
She shakes her head, pulling away from the hug. "No, I need the walk. Plus, if there are any bumps in the night Frost has my back."
"Hell yeah, I do!" Frost speaks in their mind causing Caitlin to lightly chuckle with a small eye roll.
Caitlin goes around saying her goodbyes before walking into the chill, night air. The stars shine brightly - guiding her path. Her place isn't too far and the fresh air seems to help clear her mind - a reset in a way. However, her ears pick up on heavy steps in sync with hers. Fearful that her mind is playing tricks on her, she lets Frost take full control.
Immediately, she turns around with an ice knife in hand looking for the person behind the footsteps. "Come out and face me like a man!" her chill voice echoes into the night. With no one in sight, she grunts in frustration. "Caity, I love you but, no more scary movies if you're going to act like this," she snarks before melting away.
"You couldn't stay in control until we were safely at the apartment," she snaps to herself, continuing her walk.
"You're fine! It's all in your head, Caity. Relax!" Frost snaps back.
With an eye roll, she quickens her steps. With the glow of her building insight, she lets out a sigh of relief to then hear an 'I told you so' comment from her icy counterpart. She dashes through the doors and rushes up the stairs - fearing the elevator would just take too long. Reaching her floor, she digs for her keys but is startled by her phone going off.
"Shit," she breathes under her breath as her hand clutches her heart. Trying to control her breathing, she takes the device out to see the screen flash 'UNKNOWN'.
"Answer it," Frost pipes in. "Could be someone we know."
"Or a stranger aka the reason it states unknown,"
"Live a little! Answer it or I will!"
Caitlin groans, sliding the icon to answer the call. "Hello?" her voice, slightly quivers.
"Do you like scary movies?" the scratchy, chilling voice breathes.
The hairs on the back of her neck stand. She freezes in place, her keys in hand as she stands in front of her door. "Who is this?" she squeaks.
The voice chuckles into her ear. "Nice costume, did you enjoy the party?" Her breathing amplifies and quickly seeks Frost for help to no avail. 'Frost!' she snaps into her mind - nothing. The voice continues, "Don't be scared, why don't you open the door?"
She quickly turns on her heels to see the masked figure standing a couple of feet behind her. Before she can scream, she is being whisked away into her apartment. Standing toe-to-toe in the living area as the figure takes off their mask.
"Miss me?" Barry smirks, fixing his hair and tossing the mask to the side.
"BARRY ALLEN! WHAT THE HELL!" she screams, hitting his chest as he chuckles.
He grabs her wrists, then places a small kiss on her nose. "I thought doctors did no harm," he chuckles.
She glares at him, "Not when their boyfriends are being assholes by scaring the daylights out of their girlfriends!" she snaps, trying to pull away from his hold. He pulls her closer to him, encasing her in his arms, and kissing her head. "Asshole," she breathes into his chest.
"I love you too," he smiles, tightening his hold. "I just couldn't resist. Cisco told me you were going to his party tonight while I was away. At first, I was just going to surprise you but, I remembered how scared you were watching Scream," he laughs into her hair.
"I repeat, asshole!" Slapping his chest then gives a heavy sigh, relaxing into his arms. "You really scared me, I thought I was going crazy," she pouts, looking up at him.
He moves a strand of hair out of her face and then caresses her cheek, "Forgive me Cait?"
She moves her head from side to side - debating. "Depends..."
"On what?" he cocks his eyebrow.
"Are you staying the night?" she innocently smiles, "Because I'm too scared to sleep all alone after this frightful night."
He smirks then leans in to kiss her on her lips. He feels her smile on his lips as she kisses back. Her hands sliding up his chest to rest on the back of his neck to pull him even closer. His hold on her waist tightens while his thumb continues caressing her cheek. He slowly pulls away, his lips hovering over hers.
"Mmm, what kind of boyfriend would I be to leave his girl without protection," he smiles before placing his lips back to hers. Her fingers slip into his hair as the passion continues. Before heading to the bedroom, she murmurs a word on his lips.
"Perfect."
fin.
