Chapter 7: Duel of the Fates

Sam's group had docked on the station that Bail Organa had gone to with the surviving Jedi. They would meet here before going to Tython.

"Master Yoda", Sam and the others said as they bowed.

"Glad to see you all, I am", Yoda said.

"We, along with a few other clones, were able to escape", Luminara said.

"If it wasn't for Bly, I would be dead", Aayla said.

"Wolfe saved my life as well. Pulled me out of the wreckage of my starfighter", Plo Kloon said.

Obi wan then saw Sam's sad look.

Obi Wan asked, "what's wrong, Sam?"

Sam said, "I lost Quarrie. During our escape. And…. I saw who was leading the clones to kill the Jedi at the temple."

Obi Wan asked, "who was it?"

Sam stuttered as he struggled to say, "Anakin."

Obi Wan got a grim look on his face.

Shaak Ti asked, "you saw my message didn't you?"

"Yes, I did", Obi Wan said.

Sam sobbed, "why would my brother betray us like this?"

"Perhaps I can answer that", Bly said, "one of the troops managed to hack into the security systems."

The Jedi went over to see the footage.

It first showed Anakin slicing down the bodies of Jedi, left and right!

The next was him bowing down to Palpatine, as he was given his Sith name.

Darth Vader.

And the reason he turned to the dark side? To save Padme.

Sam said, "we need to warn Padme about this. We have to get back to Coruscant."

"I'll go with you", Obi Wan said.

Hamill beeped as he jumped on Sam's shoulders.

"The rest of you wait for us here", Sam said.

….

Sam and Obi Wan made it to Coruscant and they were now in Padme's Apartment.

Padme said, "you both shouldn't be here. The Republic is after all the Jedi."

Sam said, "Padme, we needed to come and warn you…. My brother is now an agent of the dark side."

Obi Wan added, "the Emperor is a Sith Lord!"

Padme cried, "why are you lying?!"

"We are not lying, we saw him kill the Jedi", Obi Wan said.

"He had Quarrie…. Killed by the clones", Sam said as he cried.

Padme asked, "what?"

"We need to find him, Padme", Obi Wan said.

Padme said, "you're going to kill him. Aren't you?"

Sam cried, "do you think I want to? He's my brother Padme. My only family left. But he's become something so twisted and horrible…. That we have no choice."

"I can't", Padme said.

Sam and Obi Wan started to walk towards their ship.

Obi Wan asked, "Anakin is the father isn't he?"

Padme nodded in pure despair.

"I'm sorry Padme", Sam said.

….

Hours later

Padme had gone to see Anakin on Mustafar, a planet of molten lava.

"I was so worried about you. Obi-Wan and Sam told me terrible things", Padme cried.

Anakin asked, "what things?"

"They said you have turned to the dark side…. That you killed other Jedi", Padme said.

"Obi-Wan and Sam are trying to turn you against me", Anakin said.

"Obi Wan and Sam care about us", Padme said.

Anakin, "us?!"

"Obi Wan knows…. He and Sam want to help you", Padme said.

Anakin merely chuckled, like she was talking nonsense. Unaware of it, Sam and Obi Wan were hidden within the ship. Hamill sat next to Threepio, who remained quiet for once.

"Anakin, all I want is your love", Padme said.

"Love won't save you, Padme. Only my new powers can do that", Anakin said.

"At what cost? You are a good person. Don't do this", Padme said.

"I won't lose you the way I lost my mother! I've become more powerful than any Jedi has ever dreamed of and I've done it for you. To protect you", Anakin said.

"Come away with me. Help me raise our child. Leave everything else behind while we still can", Padme said.

"Don't you see, we don't have to run away anymore. I have brought peace to the Republic", Anakin said.

Padme then started to back away from him.

"I am more powerful than the Chancellor. I can overthrow him, and together you and I can rule the galaxy. Make things the way we want them to be", Anakin said.

"I don't believe it, Sam and Obi wan were right, you've changed", Padme said.

Anakin said, "I don't want to hear any more about my brother, or Obi Wan. The Jedi have already turned against me. Don't you turn against me!"

"I don't know you anymore. Anakin, you're breaking my heart. I'll never stop loving you, but you are going down a path I can't follow", Padme said.

Anakin asked, "because of Obi-Wan and my brother?"

"Because of what you've done…. What you plan to do", Padme said.

Anakin saw behind Padme his twin and Obi Wan.

"Stop, stop now. Come back! I love you", Padme cried.

Anakin screamed, "LIAR!"

"No", Padme cried.

"You're with them. You've betrayed me! You brought them here to kill me", Anakin said.

Anakin began to choke his wife, much to her horror and despair.

Obi Wan shouted, "let her go, Anakin!"

Padme cried, "Ani! Please!"

Sam yelled, "let. Padme. Go!"

Anakin let Padme fall to the ground as he yelled, "you turned her against me!"

Obi Wan shouted, "you have done that yourself!"

Sam, "your actions are your own!"

Sam could only glare at his brother in pure anger, despair, and even a brief hint of hope that his brother wasn't too far gone.

But as he glanced at Padme, laying on the ground, that last feeling was overshadowed by the others.

Anakin then removes his cloak.

"You will not take her from me", Anakin shouted.

"Your anger and your lust for power have already done that", Obi Wan said.

Sam and Obi Wan removed their cloaks as well.

Sam shouted, "how could you do this Anakin!? How could you betray us!?"

Anakin yelled, "you could never understand! The betrayal I've felt from people I trusted."

Sam growled out, "I know more than you think. Your clones killed Quarrie! My love! How could you!?"

"Better having him die than Padme", Anakin shouted.

Sam's heart broke upon hearing those words.

His brother was truly gone, it seemed.

Obi Wan shouted, "you have allowed this dark Lord to twist your mind, until now…. Now you've become the very thing you swore to destroy."

They circle each other until Sam and Obi Wan are near Padme, Sam places his hand on her.

"Don't lecture me, Sam, Obi Wan. I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do", Anakin said, "I have brought peace, justice, freedom, and security to my new Empire!"

Obi Wan, "your new empire?"

"Don't make me kill you", Anakin said.

Sam said, "you've completely lost it!"

Obi Wan shouted, "Anakin, our allegiance is to the Republic! To democracy!"

Anakin said, "if you're not with me…. Then you're my enemies!"

Obi Wan said, "only Sith deal in absolutes."

Sam muttered, "isn't that an absolute?"

Obi Wan whispered, "that's besides the point."

Sam and Obi Wan returned to their confrontation as Sam said, "we will do what we must."

Anakin growled out, "you will try!"

The three force users all activated their lightsabers, and began a duel of fates!

….

Meanwhile, at the Senate.

Master Yoda had also begun an epic duel against Emperor Palpatine!

Yoda was trying to deflect Palpatine's force lightning.

"Your powers are weak old man", Palpatine cackled, "farewell, Master Yoda!"

Palpatine managed to send Yoda back towards the bottom of the Senate room!

Just as Yoda was falling, he was caught by something…. Or someone.

Yoda asked, "what?"

"You again", Palpatine shouted.

Yoda was put down as he saw Antauri standing there.

He yelled, "your actions have put the force out of balance! You have no idea what you've done!"

Palpatine cackled, "oh, I think I do! The galaxy is mine! The Jedi are no more! And I shall rule the galaxy, as Emperor Sidious!"

Antauri then charged forward and activated his two white lightsabers.

Palpatine was now struggling to defend himself from the powerful force entity.

Yoda then joined in on the fight, adding a bigger challenge!

Yoda asked, "know you, I do not. Or do I?"

Antauri said, "I am Antauri. And I will explain more, if we survive this!"

The two enforcers of the light side keep fighting against Sidious as he growls in anger!

"I will make you pay for what you did", Palpatine shouted.

"Like I said before; you will not live enough to the demise of your Empire", Antauri said.

Yoda asked, "demise?"

Palpatine used that chance to blast Yoda with Force lighting.

Yoda fell down and lost his lightsaber.

"Master Yoda, you must run", Antauri shouted.

Yoda yelled, "run, I will not!"

Antauri yelled back, "you must! The Jedi order must survive! Run!"

Yoda reluctantly fled as Antauri faced Sidious.

"Now I have you", Palpatine said.

"No, you don't", Antauri said.

Palpatine screamed in anger as he lunged at Antauri with his two lightsabers.

Antauri held out his hand and used the force.

Palpatine's lightsabers turned off and they were starting to shake.

He quickly threw them to the ground and ran off as the lightsaber suddenly exploded, covering Yoda's escape, and allowing Antauri to flee as well.

….

Sam and Obi Wan were fighting with Anakin.

The three had fallen onto droids protecting them from the lava.

"I have failed you, Anakin. I was never able to teach you to think", Obi Wan said.

"I should have known the Jedi were plotting to take over", Anakin said.

"From the Sith! Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil", Sam shouted.

"From the Jedi's point of view! From my point of view, the Jedi are evil", Anakin shouted.

Sam felt tears fall down his face.

"Well, then you are lost", Sam shouted.

"This is the end for you, my brother and my master. I wish it were otherwise", Anakin said.

Obi Wan and Sam managed to jump up to a higher ledge.

Obi Wan shouted, "it's over Anakin! I have the high ground!"

Sam, "it's too high for you!"

Anakin yelled, "you underestimate my power!"

Obi Wan shouted, "don't try it!"

Anakin didn't listen and jumped at them, but they were too quick, and sliced his remaining arm and legs off!

Anakin then started to slide down and he was near the lava river.

Sam shouted, "how could you!?"

"You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them", Obi Wan shouted.

"Bring balance to the force! Not leave it in Darkness", Sam shouted.

Sam saw his twin's lightsaber on the ground and he picked it up.

Anakin screamed, "I hate you!"

Sam cried as he yelled, "you were my brother Anakin! I loved you!"

Sam used the force to pull his brother up a bit.

Obi Wan asked, "what are you doing?"

"I won't let my brother be burned by the lava", Sam cried.

Anakin continued to scream in rage as Obi Wan and Sam left their old friend to perish on this planet.

They soon arrived back at the ship, with R2 and Hamill following behind them when they saw them.

Threepio came out of the ship and said, "oh! Master Kenobi! Master Sam!"

Sam asked, "where's Padme?"

Threepio replied, "she is on the ship. Oh please, we should leave this dreadful place."

Sam and Obi Wan nodded.

Hamill started to make sounds and he ran back into the ship.

Sam followed his droid and he saw Padme lying on a bed.

Padme asked, "Sam…. Is…. Anakin…. Alright?"

Sam felt a few tears fall down his face.

….

A handful of the remaining Jedi were on Polis Massa, talking with Master Yoda.

The Jedi asked, "Antauri?"

"The name that was, of the being who rescued me", Yoda said.

"I've never seen him before", Luminara said.

"Yet his name sounds familiar", Kit Fisto said.

"Excuse me!"

They turned to see Bail Organa enter the room.

Aayla asked, "what is it?"

"Obi Wan and Sam have made contact", Bail Organa said.

….

Soon, the Jedi were all standing outside of the medical bay of the moon base they were on. Padme was being treated for her injuries she had gotten from Anakin.

Sam couldn't take his eyes off of his sister in-law.

A medical droid came out to speak with them.

They said, "medically speaking; she is perfectly healthy. But for reasons we don't understand, we're losing her."

Obi Wan said, "she's dying?"

The droid replied, "we don't know why. But we must move quickly, if we are to save the babies."

Sam asked, "babies?"

The droid clarified, "she is carrying twins."

Sam started to cry.

"Sam", Shaak Ti said as she hugged him.

"I just lost Quarrie, my brother…. And now I'm going to lose Padme", Sam cried.

Kit Fisto then came over.

Fisto said, "things may seem bad now. But there is something that can keep you going."

Sam asked, "and what's that?"

Fisto replied, "these children will need you."

This seemed to ease Sam, even if slightly, as he and Obi Wan went into the room to help comfort Padme as she gave birth.

Padme screamed in pain as she was giving birth.

The medic droid then was holding a baby, and soon put the baby into Sam's arms.

"It's a boy", Sam said.

"Luke", Padme said.

Luke cried.

"Oh, Luke", Padme said as she touched his cheek.

Padme then started to cry again in pain.

The medic droid handed the second baby to Obi Wan.

"It's a girl", Obi Wan said.

"Leia", Padme said.

Sam could feel her life force fading.

"Padme…. Please don't die…. You have to live for your children", Sam said with tears falling down his face.

"It's too late for me", Padme said.

"Please…. I don't want to lose you too", Sam cried.

"I'm sorry Sam…. But please promise me...", Padme said.

Sam looked at her.

Padme whispered out, "take care…. Of the babies…. Don't let…. The Empire…. Get them…."

Sam cried as he said, "I promise Padme. I promise."

Padme gave a mile as a few years escaped from her eyes as she said, "thank you. Obi Wan?"

Obi Wan looked at Padme as she said, "I know…. There's still…. Good in him…. I…. Know…. There's…. Still..."

Padme gave her last breath as her head fell to the left side.

Padme Amidala had died.

The babies were crying.

"Padme", Sam cried.

Kit Fisto walked into the room and hugged Sam.

"She's one with the force now, Sam", Kit Fisto said.

….

Later on, the group were in Bail Organa's ship, as they discussed the future of the twins.

"Safe, the children must be kept", Yoda said.

"Sam must take them somewhere, where the Sith can't sense their presence", Obi Wan said.

Aayla asked, "but why can't he stay on Tython with us?"

Sam replied, "the Empire will eventually track down the children if they stay in one place. I'll keep on the move on the Ebon Hawk. And I'll keep close to the outer rim. Luke and Leia MUST be kept from Sidious at all costs."

"And from Vader", Obi Wan said.

"I can't believe the galaxy is now full of the dark side", Luminara said.

"Indeed, which is why we must prepare when the time is right to strike back at the Empire", Plo Koon said.

Aayla asked, "what if some Jedi are still out there?"

"The force will guide them", Kit Fisto said.

"We must go now to Tython, we can't let the empire know we were here", Obi Wan said.

"Be careful, Sam", Shaak Ti said.

"I will", Sam said.

"If you ever need help, you can call me Sam", Bail Organa said.

"Thank you", Sam said.

The group all bowed to one another as they went their separate ways, with Yoda and Obi Wan sharing some final words about plans they had.

….

A few hours later, Sam was back on the Ebon Hawk. The ship was set to autopilot for now as he put Luke and Leia to sleep, with Hamill watching over the infants to protect them. Artoo and Threepio had accompanied them, since the two droids were one of the last remnants of the family he had built during the clone wars.

Eventually, Sam then landed on a planet called Robowsia, which is where Antauri lived.

"I guess we can stay here for a while", Sam said as he held both Luke and Leia.

As Sam walked back into the Ebon Hawk, he was being watched from a distance by Antauri.

He had already comforted Sam, who believed he would never find someone else to love.

Antauri closed his eyes as he had another vision.

"We're gonna crash on that planet", Luke shouted.

A blonde haired girl asked, "who are you?"

Antauri then saw Sam with…. Hordak.

"Please Hordak…. I don't want to lose you", Sam cried as he held Hordak's hands.

Hordak held Sam as he said, "I love you."

Antauri was brought out of his vision as he smiled and said, "do not worry my friend. You will one day find love again…."

….

14 years later

"And that's how your father fell to the dark side", Sam said.

Sam, Luke and Leia, who were now 14 years old, were captured and are now on a star destroyer.

"I know you told us that our father fell to the dark side, but I never thought….", Luke said.

"That he would do so many terrible things", Leia said.

Luke asked, "but why did our mother die?"

"She lost the will to live", Sam said.

Leia asked, "and why did you wait so long to tell us this?"

Sam sighed as he said, "I was hoping you two could enjoy your lives before having to face all of this. The Empire wants you both. Your strength in the force is like a beacon."

Luke asked, "and our father?"

"He would turn you two into Sith", Sam said.

"No! We are Jedi", Leia shouted.

"Keep it down in there", a stormtrooper shouted.

Sam had been training Luke and Leia in the ways of the force, with help from Antauri at times.

Antauri had been helping the galaxy a bit in secret and he had been rescuing younglings who were force sensitive from the empire.

Sam had given Luke Anakin's lightsaber, while Leia had built her own.

"I did it all to protect you, you are the only other family I have left", Sam said.

Luke and Leia both got up and hugged their uncle, grateful for how he had protected them after all these years.

Sam whispered, "I can only hope Hamill, Artoo and Threepio can pilot the Ebon Hawk here to rescue us…."
