Ruins of Heartland Tower - Heartland City - Xyz Dimension
Declan, Riley, Moon Shadow, and several Sector Securities were in the middle of evacuating civilians through the battlefield with Shay, Allen, Saya, Kite, and Iggy when Duel Academy soldiers ambushed them. However, they made the mistake of doing so, especially since the leader of the Lancers had beaten and incapacitated them all by himself like it was nothing. Riley and Moon Shadow, on the other hand, were standing protectively in front of the civilians with the others.
"Did ya see that?! That guy rocked and rolled those Fusion Freaks!" Allen cheered.
"What the - ?!"
Aster arrived with another group of Duel Academy duelists and was almost stunned by the fact that his men were all defeated by one duelist. The man with glasses and a red scarf seemed to be familiar to the Commander.
"A legion of our best duelists took on one lousy louse, and that louse laid them all out?" Noro asked, before his shock turned into anger. "What a bunch of wimps!"
"Who are you?" Aster demanded the duelist with glasses.
Declan fixed his glasses before calmly introducing himself. "I am the leader of the Lancers, Declan Akaba."
"You're that rebellious excuse of a child of the Professor!" Captain Perceptra exclaimed crossly, shocking the other Duel Academy members and the Resistance members. They couldn't help murmuring to their fellowships.
"He's the Professor's son?! Is that true, Shay?" Allen asked his Raidraptor friend.
"Yeah. But even so, Declan's not like his father at all. He's truly on our side." Shay assured his Resistance comrades.
"I take it... you're the ones in charge here, I presume?" Declan asked the Chaos Inquisition captain and the grey-haired man.
"Yes. I am Captain Perceptra of the Chaos Inquisition's Sigma Squad, this over here's my fellow colleague Noro, and this is our commanding officer, Commander Aster Phoenix." Perceptra introduced herself, her comrade, and her superior.
Aster raised his hand to his men, silencing them and motioning them to cease their attack. At least for now. "Declan Akaba, if I may, why do you stand against us? Isn't your father, the Professor, the one who is creating one supreme world?"
Declan sighed. "I cannot approve of my father's methods. The only supreme world that will be created from this destructive conquest of the dimensions is one of misery, not of peace."
Aster and his personnel twitched at the claim Declan made. "Watch your tongue. Son of the Professor or not, we will not tolerate any ill words towards him."
"If that's how it must be, then I will put a stop this invasion as leader of the Lancers." Declan reactivated his Duel Disk, preparing to duel the commander of the invasion himself.
"You leave this duel to me!"
Yuya arrived before Declan and Aster could begin dueling with Gong, Sylvio, Celina, and Yugo right behind him. Yuya landed right in between Declan and Aster, mostly on Declan's side of the field, while the rest of the group of new arrivals reinforced the Securities, Resistance forces, and their fellow Lancers that were protecting the civilians.
"Declan, please leave this to me. I've got to settle something with Aster." Yuya implored his leader, this time looking at him straight in the eyes. "I know what I'm fighting for now, clearly."
Declan studied Yuya's face. The doubt and hesitation that he had seen on Yuya's face not too long ago had been replaced with strong conviction. Yuya's eyes brimmed with the notion that Yuya had a strong conviction and had the strength ready to prove it.
Declan stepped back to his little brother's side, wordlessly giving Yuya his approval. Aster didn't object either. He just motioned his head to his men who obeyed his wordless order, surrounding the Lancers and Securities protecting civilians. Now Yuya and Aster were left alone to duel it out.
"Yuya, you were fortunate to escape our last duel, but not this time... You're mine now. So prepare to duel your last duel ever!"
Yuya glared briefly at the civilians and accidentally made eye contact with them. The civilians that witnessed his duel with Obelisk Force quickly looked away from him, fear in their eyes. Frowning, Yuya was hurt by their action. But then he looked at his friends and remembered the promise they made with him.
"I'm not what these people think I am. I am dueling to bring smiles, and that's precisely what I'm gonna do!"
A determined Yuya declared as he activated his Duel Disk and the Action Field, "Hope you're ready to be blown away, 'cause... it's show time!"

[Let's duel!]
"I'll make the first move!" Aster declared. "And choosing which monster to summon was an easy decision to make!" Showing the monster he chose, Aster quickly summoned it. "Come out, Destiny HERO - Decider(ATK: 1600/DEF: 1000/LV: 4)!" Aster quickly summoned his fish-like Destiny HERO.
Digging into his pocket, he took a look at the torn in-half Smile World. "Yuya Sakaki, I'm bringing the curtain down on you and your father's dueltaining. You two think that dueling's all about making smile. Well, after I get though with you, you'll never be smiling again."
"This is my second chance to show him he's wrong." Yuya thought as he looked at Aster with determination. "I gotta do it this time 'cause I don't think I'll get a third." "Now show me what you got." Aster challenged.
"All right! You asked for it! It's my move! I set the Pendulum Scale with my Performapal Handstandaccoon(ATK: 400/DEF: 600/LV: 2/PS: 3) and my Timegazer Magician(ATK: 1200/DEF: 800/LV: 3/PS: 8)! I'm taking control of this duel starting now! Now I can summon monsters from levels 3 through 7, all at the same time! Swing far pendulum. Carve the arc of victory! My monsters are ready... to swing into action!
Take aim Performapal Dag Daggerman(ATK: 2000/DEF: 600/LV: 5/PS: 2)! Turn up the heat, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon(ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7/PS: 4)!"
"Whoa... So glad I got a front row seat!" Grace awed as she and her sister looked on from the sidelines, enough not to be noticed they weren't dueling by their comrades but were able to watch every moment of the duel.
"All right, showtime!" Yuya yelled as he declared his Battle Phase. "Dag Daggerman, attack! Swing your blades at Destiny HERO - Decider!" Dag Daggerman smirked before he threw his blades at the fish-like Destiny HERO, whose destruction made Aster use his left arm cover himself from the explosion.
ASTER LP: 4000 = 3600
"And next, my Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon will attack you directly! Spiral Flame Strike!"
Before Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon's attack hit, Aster revealed a card from their last duel. "I send Destiny HERO - Dynatag(ATK: 1000/DEF: 1000/LV: 5) to the graveyard so I can activate its special ability. Since I have fewer life points than you, I don't take damage from Odd-Eyes." A blue barrier protected Aster from the attack. "But instead, we both take 1000 points of damage!
Well, not "we" actually... just you! By returning Destiny HERO - Decider to my hand, it stops me from losing any life points."
An explosion occurred that sent Yuya flying and screaming. He landed with a thud, facedown on the ground.
YUYA LP: 4000 = 3000
"Cool! Aster brought his A-game! So Yuya's gonna have to go A-plus on him!" Grace commented. Gloria, once again, scolded her sister. "We're not here to spectate, Grace. While Commander Phoenix handles Yuya, let's go clean up the rest of the riffraff." "Can't you take care of those losers?" Grace whined. "I want to watch the bam, slam and kabam!" Bringing her left hand to scratch her head, Gloria groaned at her sister's attitude.
Getting up, after placing the second to last card in his hand facedown, Yuya declared that he would end his turn. Thus, began Aster's next turn. "I draw! I activate a spell... Polymerization! And with it I fuse Destiny HERO - Decider and Destiny HERO Drilldark(ATK: 1600/DEF: 1200/LV: 4)! With the help of this next monster, your fate's about to take a terrifying turn for the worst! I Fusion Summon! Destiny HERO - Dystopia(ATK: 2800/DEF: 2400/LV: 8)!
And I'm putting its power to use... right away! You take damage equal to Decider's attack points!" Dystopia generated a white sphere from its right palm, which blew up when it hit the ground at Yuya's feet, sending him screaming.
YUYA LP: 3000 = 1400
"That was just a preview!" Aster declared.
"Grace, that's enough, let's move it, like now!" Gloria urging was ignored by her sister. "In a minute, okazies?"
"I equip Dystopia with Delay Armor!" Six small drone-like missiles, clustered together and bore the Destiny HERO emblem on their sides, burst out of the Equip Spell as soon as it was played. They spread out and created an electrical net. "Now attack Odd-Eyes!" Dystopia charged its fist with the energy and blasted a beam that decimated the Dragon-Type. The blast made Yuya shield himself with both his arms and he strained against the backlash wind.
YUYA LP: 1400 = 1100
"By destroying your Odd-Eyes, Delay Armor energizes its blasters and destroys your Dag Daggerman!" Leaving their surround formation around Dystopia, the missile drones floated about and blasted beams that blew up Dag Daggerman, who screamed. "Plus, you'll get blasted with 500 points of damage!" Arcing in a tight formation, the drones blasted Yuya, decreasing his life points.
YUYA LP: 1100 = 600
"Congratulations. You've dueltained yourself down to only 600 life points. This proves that all this dueltaining is nothing but a joke - just like your father. I place one card facedown and end my turn."
Yuya then drew a card as he got on with his turn. "Here I go! And now on with the show... Since I'm lucky to have already built the Pendulum Scale, I can summon... my monsters again! Welcome back, Performapal Dag Daggerman! Nice to see ya, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
"He brought his monsters back, but they're too weak defeat Aster's Dystopia." Noro noted as he saw what Yuya did from the sidelines. "What is he planning?" Captain Perceptra, who was wondering what the dueltainer was scheming as she stood by Noro. "You know that Yuya has a trick up his sleeve. And it's gonna be abracadabra-licous!" Grace eagerly stated.
Eyes closed; Aster chuckled with a smile. "You brought back those two losers again? If that's your idea of dueltaining, consider myself entertained! Because I get to destroy them all over again!"
Yuya growled. "That's not how you're supposed to have fun. How do I get through to this guy?" "You're still on that kick, Yuya?" Yuto asked before looking at Aster. "He's not just from Duel Academy. He's the leader of their entire army. Don't you realize that nothing will ever change his mind?" "Even so, I've got to try and do this. Because I got an idea!" Yuya told Yuto as he knew what his next move should be.
"I'm about to turn this duel upside-down! Handstandaccoon's Pendulum Ability activates! Letting me bring it back to my hand!" Handstandaccoon bid bye-bye as it returned to Yuya's hand, which confused Aster. "Why would you break your own Pendulum Scale?!" Yuya answered, "Simple, Dag Daggerman's special ability lets me send Handstandaccoon to the graveyard to draw a card from my deck! And I'm hoping that it's a good one!" Drawing the card that he got from the special ability, Yuya mentally cheered as he saw what it was. "Awesome!"
"I use Performapal Trump Witch(ATK: 100/DEF: 100/LV: 1/PS: 4) to rebuild... my Pendulum Scale! It may look I took the long way home, but I'm glad that I went to all that trouble, because she lets me Fusion Summon without using Polymerization! I fuse Performapal Dag Daggerman with my Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
Aster was shocked. "What?! You know how to Fusion Summon?!" "Aww, come on, Aster. If that's gonna leave you in shock, you'll pass out before I get to my best stuff!" Yuya's two monsters leapt into the Fusion Vortex as they fused together. "I Fusion Summon! A dragon so hot that it burns away all your monster's attack points before it even hit the field!" Dystopia yelled as multiple red streaks that were shaped like dragons emerged from a pillar of fire and reduced its attack to zero.
Destiny HERO - Dystopia(ATK: 2800 = 0/DEF: 2400/LV: 8)
"Oh, no, you can't!" Aster yelled as he looked in horror at his monster as it lost its attack points. "Can too! Right, Brave-Eyes Pendulum Dragon(ATK: 3000/DEF: 2000/LV: 8)?"
"Ha! Brave-Eyes!" Noro's exclamation was accompanied with a disapproving growl from Perceptra.
"He never learned that someone form another dimension can Fusion Summon." Yuto stated as he looked at Yuya's fusion dragon. "So maybe... he'll question everything he's learned from Duel Academy."
"A Fusion Summon..." Aster growled silently as he looked at Yuya's monster. "And I have to admit, it's a pretty good one! But the good only becomes great since it gains 100 attack points for each monster that just had its attack points drained away!" Brave-Eyes roared as its attack points increased.
Brave-Eyes Pendulum Dragon(ATK: 3000 = 3100/DEF: 2000/LV: 8)
"Brave-Eyes! Attack! Take out Destiny HERO - Dystopia! Searing Flame Strike!" Brave-Eyes laid its tail down to secure itself as its chest orb glowed. Then it unleashed a massive blue spiraling flame that headed right for Dystopia.
"Whatever. Since my fusion monster is equipped with Delay Armor, your fusion monster can't harm it." Aster smugly grinned at the situation. "Your pathetic Fusion Summon didn't work." "It will when it uses its third ability!" Yuya retorted. "Third?" "Even with your Armor, Brave-Eyes can still destroy it!" Yuya explained as he pointed to Aster's only monster.
"You think you're so smart... Well, you've got much to learn! I activate Urban Demise, which gives my Dystopia an extra 100 attack points!" A red beam shot from the Continuous Trap and entered the hole in Dystopia's chest, causing an aura of red to surround it.
Destiny HERO - Dystopia(ATK: 0 = 100/DEF: 2400/LV: 8)
"A 100 attack points might not seem like much, but its more than enough!" Aster's eyes widened as the aura around Dystopia turned purple. "Because when Dystopia's attack points change, its special ability activates and automatically destroys your monster - and any chance you had of winning this duel! Yuya. you may be able to Fusion Summon, but you don't know the in or outs like me! And because of that, your dragon's going to pay the price for your foolishness." Thrusting its arm out, Dystopia sucked up Brave-Eyes, attack and all, into its right palm and crushed it.
"Maybe. Or maybe not! Since my Brave-Eyes was destroyed, my Dragon's Call allows me to summon Odd-Eyes Lancer Dragon(ATK: 3000/DEF: 2000/LV: 8) from my deck!"
"Odd-Eyes Lancer Dragon, let's do this! Time to take names and kick butt! Go! Attack Dystopia!" Lancer Dragon's wings ignited and with a flap of its wings, took to the sky. The runes in its head glowed green as it swooped down and struck down Dystopia, using its head like a spear. And since Aster's Urban Demise could only be used once a turn, he couldn't use Dystopia's special ability to destroy it and stop the attack.
"You still haven't outsmarted me yet! Delay Armor takes the blast instead, shielding Dystopia from destruction! So Dystopia's safe!" Aster then pointed to his Equip Spell as the drones formed their electric field to block the attack. As soon as the attack failed, the drones exploded.
ASTER LP: 3600 = 700
"I end my turn! That means the effects from Brave-Eyes' special ability will now wear off. So Dystopia's attack points return to normal."
Destiny HERO - Dystopia(ATK: 100 = 2900/DEF: 2400/LV: 8)
"My turn then." Aster then drew a card to start his turn before he declared, "Your father may have eluded me, but you won't! With everything I've learned from Duel Academy, I will end you!" Pointing to Yuya, Aster added another thing. "And once I beat you, your father's next!"
"It's too bad, Yuya. If you only had one more monster, you've could've won this thing." Yuto commented his Standard counterpart's close win. Yuya just smiled. "What's so funny?" Yuto asked. "Well... Aster kept half of my dad's card. That means he's always thinking of him... And I don't think it's just for revenge. I think my dad got through to him. No, I know he did!" "Why do you have to be so stubborn? If your dad couldn't get through to him, then what chance do you have?" "That's where you're wrong. My dad did get through to him. I'm sure of it! Don't let that face fool you. I know deep down; Aster's got a smile that wants to shine and I'm going to do whatever it takes to make that happen!"
Yuya showed his pendulum pendant to Aster, letting it swing back-and-forth. "I can tell that your emotions are wiggle-wagging back-and-forth like this pendulum."
Looking at the swinging pendulum in Yuya's hand, Aster asked, "Like a pendulum? Ridiculous!"
"The Professor taught you that dueling is for power and control, but my dad told you that it's for fun and smiles! So which of the two is right? For me it's a no-brainer, but I bet you're having doubts."
"Not in the slightest!" Aster swiftly denied.
"Come on, admit it. You had a blast dueling against my dad, didn't you Aster?" Yuya pointed out what he thought was the main cause of Aster's problem.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" Aster then got on with his turn. "I play Pot of Greed, so I can draw two new cards! And thanks to that, I now have D-Tribunal! With this spell, I can summon two very special Destiny HEROs by negating their special abilities. So say hello to Destiny HERO - Dogma(ATK: 3400/DEF: 2400/LV: 8) and Destiny HERO - Plasma(ATK: 1900/DEF: 600/LV: 8)!"" Aster summoned his two demonic-looking Destiny HERO monsters.
"And that's not all D-Tribunal lets me do! By banishing it from my graveyard, I can Fusion Summon a monster that will bring me total victory! I Fusion Summon! Destiny End Dragoon(ATK: 3000/DEF: 3000/LV: 10)!" Aster brought out a fusion monster that wielded a massive sword and wore dragon-like armor.
"Commander Phoenix has that twerp right where he wants him. It's all over." Gloria summarized. "You sure?" Grace's reply made Gloria turn her head to her younger sister. "This is Yuya we're talking about!"
"Thanks to his special ability, your Lancer Dragon is destroyed, and you take damage equal to its attack points! Inevitable Destiny!" Destiny End Dragoon slashed its sword, creating a red shockwave that flew towards Odd-Lancer Dragon. "Smile, Yuya!" Aster mockingly shouted as the shockwave approached its target.
"If Yuya takes that damage, he'll lose!" Riley looked at Yuya worryingly just as he and his comrades worked on defeating the Duel Academy forces that were assaulting them.
"Do not worry. Yuya won't fall that easily." Declan assured his little brother.
Jumping from floating board to floating board, Yuya found an Action Card and activated it. "I play... the Action Spell Mirror Barrier! So my monster's safe!" The shockwave hit only the barrier of mirrors that encased Lancer Dragon, so it wasn't destroyed.
"Not bad, Yuya!" Sylvio cheered.
"Maybe, but his chances of victory sure are! With these two powerhouses on my field, you won't be winning this duel! But just in case, I'll set one card facedown and end my turn."
"Don't underestimate Yuya! He'll swing this duel his way now!" Yugo told Aster as he cheered for Yuya as he and the others, Duel Academy and Lancer-affiliated forces alike, had stopped dueling to watch them.
"That's right!" Yuya agreed as he drew a card. "I'm gonna jog your memory of my dad... with a Pendulum Summon! Say hey to Performapal Dag Daggerman! And Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! And now, for a little more variety, I'll have Performapal Snail Star(ATK: 600/DEF: 1000/LV: 3) creep his way into the spotlight!" Yuya normal summoned a pink snail-like Performapal with colored star tattoos on its shell and wore matching star-shaped sunglasses.
"Wow~! There are so many cool monsters on that guy's field!" A young boy commented as he saw Yuya's monsters.
"Look away, honey! It's too dangerous! He's dangerous!" The boy's mother told him, as the two of them were among the people that were present when Yuya lost control of his emotions against Obelisk Force.
The girl who was present when Yuya dueled Iggy asked her parents as she pointed at the dueltainer, "Mommy, Daddy, isn't he the one who saved us?" "Yeah! That duelist is a good guy! Since his duel was fun, it's okay to watch it right?" The girl's older brother sided with her. The parents weren't sure, and considering the situation they were now currently in, who could blame them?
"I activate Snail Star's special ability! It lets me summon the tuner monster Speedroid Shuriken(ATK: 0/DEF: 100/LV: 1) from my deck!" Yuya summoned a white mechanical shuriken-like Speedroid monster that transformed into a humanoid form after it spun itself onto the field.
"Alright! You're using my monster now?!"
"Yep! Thanks, Yugo! And now I can tribute Star Snail and replace Timegazer Magician with Performapal Marble Fairy(ATK: 100/DEF: 200/LV: 1/PS: 9)!
Now that she's in my Pendulum Zone, I can lower Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon's level to six!"
Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon(ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7 = 6/PS: 4)
"It's just like when he dueled Yugo in the Friendship Cup!" Gong pointed out. "So that means Yuya's gonna Synchro Summon his dragon." Shay summarized.
"That's right. My Speedroid Shurikan tunes my now level 6 Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Dragon with cosmic, blazing eyes! Shatter the heavens with your light! I Synchro Summon! Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon(ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7)!" Meteorburst crashed down from the sky, via its fireball, and roared as the crater behind it was on fire.
"From Pendulum, to Xyz, to Synchro, to Fusion... To think that he could actually master the four summoning methods of the four dimensions!" A Fusion Warrior who was watching the duel commented in astonishment.
"That's because I traveled beyond my dimension, met different people, and experienced the good and the bad of their lives to forge my own style of dueling! Is this really your style of dueling?"
"What a ridiculous question. There's no style in dueling!" Aster answered without hesitation.
"Really now?" Yuya asked again before he continued. "Everyone! Please direct your attention to my fierce Odd-Eyes Lancer Dragon and my dashing Dag Daggerman! And now I'll tribute these two... to summon out... the laugh of the party, Performapal Laugh Maker(ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 8/PS: 5)!" Performapal Laugh Maker laughed as he spun his scepter around and assumed a pose. With a grin on his face, Laugh Maker floated down to Yuya's side.
"Laugh it up now, Yuya, 'cause you won't be able to later! I'm gonna crush you!" Yuya rebuffed Aster's declaration. "I doubt it! Laugh Maker, attack Dystopia!"
"Why's he attacking when he has the weaker monster?" Gloria wondering was halted by her sister's enthusiasm. "Chillax, wait and see. I'm sure his monster's packin' some pop that'll knock Aster for a loop!"
"You're just dueltaining your way to defeat." Aster thought. "Now we're about see who gets the last laugh. Thanks to Urban Demise, Dystopia's attack points increase by 100!"
Destiny HERO - Dystopia(ATK: 2900 = 3000/DEF: 2400/LV: 8)
Yuya kept a smile and proudly claimed as he pumped his fist, "That's fine with me, because whenever your monster gains attack points, Laugh Maker's attack points increase by 1000!" Laugh Maker spun his staff as he glowed yellow.
Performapal Laugh Maker(ATK: 2500 = 3500/DEF: 2000/LV: 8/PS: 5)
"Think you outsmarted me? Well, believe me, Yuya, you haven't! When your monster's attack points change, Dystopia can automatically destroy it!" After the D symbol on its head glowed, Dystopia made multiple poses before it launched a massive purple beam of energy from the hole in its torso.
Pointing to Laugh Maker, Yuya proclaimed, "That would be true, if I didn't have Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon! Thanks to its special ability, your monsters can't activate their special abilities when they're battling!" Laugh Maker formed a magic circle using the tip of his scepter that absorbed the blast from Dystopia.
"In that case, I activate D-Mirror, and target Delay Armor in my graveyard! Now, this trap becomes Delay Armor! And I'm equipping it to Dystopia, so it can take the blast instead, shielding Dystopia from destruction!"
"But Laugh Maker can still attack! Chuckle Charge!" Using his scepter, Laugh Maker formed a pink smile icon that appeared from the Smile cards, as well as four lighting charges that framed it, and shot a blast at Destiny HERO - Dystopia. The electrical charges hit Aster, causing his life points to drop.
ASTER LP: 700 = 200
"Way to add some sparks to this duel, Laugh Maker!" Yuya congratulated his monster. "Looks like Laugh Maker... got the last laugh."
"Now Commander Phoenix is the one cornered!" A Buster Brigadier exclaimed, and from the sound of her voice, it seemed that she was concerned for her superior's well-being. "Could it be... he's going to lose?!"
"And now, Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon is gonna take a whack at Destiny End Dragoon! All thanks to its special ability, which allows it to increase its attack points by 500 whenever it battles!"
Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon(ATK: 2500 = 3000/DEF: 2000/LV: 7)
"The only one losing a monster is gonna be you, Yuya! Because by banishing one of the monsters I used to summon it, Destiny End Dragoon isn't destroyed! Destined Invincibility!"
Destiny End Dragoon stood in front of Dystopia, shooting a beam out of its dragon cannon arm. The counterattack collided with Meteorburst's blast and started to push it back. Odd-Eyes Meteorburst struggled to overpower Destiny End Dragoon's power as the counter blast approached it but wasn't able to. Despite losing a monster, Yuya was smiling.
"There's plenty of duel left." Aster pointed out. "So why are you still smiling?"
"Because that means there's plenty of time for you to dig deep and find the fun. What do you got to lose?" Aster retorted to Yuya's question. "Only my patience with all this fun talk. I'm a soldier, Yuya. I'm not a clown in some circus."
Yuya asked Aster, "Are you sure about that? 'Cause it seems like you're putting on quite the performance. Trying to convince me... that you're only down to destroy. You sure didn't keep that half of my dad's card to remind you how fun it was to duel him? I mean, you didn't expect a different way to view dueling before coming here, did you?"
"What?"
Yuya ignored Aster's confusion and instead continued. "You probably didn't. Because you only know how to view dueling the way Duel Academy taught you. Just learn and be cold, calculating soldiers. But you're simply repeating the same things that were taught to you. Same tactics, same lessons. You haven't even begun to forge how you duel by yourself."
Aster opened his mouth, ready to retort the claim, but nothing came out. Because, whether or not he liked it, Yuya was right.
"Sora and Celina told me what life is like in Duel Academy. You had to be cold and calculating, going through harsh training every day, and never have the time to make friends. To you, serving the Professor's an honor. But to us, you're nothing more than his prisoners."
Kite crossed his arms while looking at the Duel Academy soldiers with a better understanding. "If that is true, then it's no wonder they're like this."
"I think I get what's goin' on?" Allen was still confused on the situation, but kind-of understood it.
"Since they had train constantly, they didn't have time to make friends or wonder about the world outside Duel Academy. They only have the Professor and his teachings to go on." Kite explained clearly to Allen as they observed the Fusion Warriors as they started to ponder what Yuya said. Shay added, "They only know those things and due to that, they didn't have normal lives like we did."
"Yeah, in fact, we weren't even aware that dueling could be for fun. So when we encountered that philosophy when we invaded, it caused confusion and we thought it was ridiculous." Celina, a former Duel Academy soldier, agreed with the reasoning as she remembered her own experiences in Duel Academy.
The citizens of Heartland who were overhearing the conversations started to murmur amongst themselves. About how they were starting to pity the invaders. Most of whom were teenagers who were supposed to be hanging out with their friends and being happy doing various activities with them. But Duel Academy took that away from them.
"Just because I believe that dueling is for fun, doesn't mean it's the only way to view it. I've come to accept that, but I believe that me and my dad's way is the best way to view dueling." Yuya set one card as he told Aster. At the same time, his monsters' attack points returned to normal.
"Shut up!" Aster shouted. For a just moment, he lost his cool. "No matter what I did, no matter how many monsters attacked, your dad never stopped smiling for a sec. I've never seen anything dumb and pathetic in my life. Your dueltaining may work in the imagination land with fairy tales and gumdrops. But out here in the real world, it's duel or doom. So why don't you and your dad take your dueltaining, your smiles, and your fun and share it with someone that cares? Just get it through your brain, I'm Duel Academy to the core!
I draw! Destiny End Dragoon, give Laugh Maker his cut from the show!" Aster pointed toward the Performapal, prompting his dragon-armored Destiny HERO to fly toward Laugh Maker, sword ready to jab through him.
"That would be true, if I didn't have this trap card handy! Thanks to Performing Pal's Counterstrike, instead of destroying my monster, yours is destroyed!"
Aster countered Yuya's trap card with his Destiny End's special ability. "I banish Plasma so that Destiny End isn't destroyed!" The two monsters clashed, sword vs scepter, and pushed each other back.
"Now, Dystopia, muzzle that Laugh Maker once and for all!" Dystopia charged its right palm with electricity and blasted Laugh Maker with it.
Yuya ran for another Action Card, jumping from board to board. However, he was taken aback when Aster, hanging onto the flying Destiny End Dragoon, blocked his attempted and pushed him away. Laugh Maker caught him and handed Yuya and Action Card he just picked up. Looking at it, Yuya was bummed that the effect wouldn't stop Laugh Maker's destruction. Making sure his master made it safely to the ground first, Laugh Maker was destroyed by Dystopia's blast, making Yuya kneel to protect himself from the impact.

"I may have lost Laugh Maker, but he gave me something worthwhile. Thanks to him, I was able to get Damage Draw - Last Resort! This Action Spell lets me draw two more cards since I took damage and have less than 500 life points." Yuya played the Action Card that Laugh Maker gave him, increasing the number of cards in his hand to four.
"Like, that was a total fail." Grace said, a little disappointed. "He totes needs like a miracle." "Yuya will need more than that. Aster has this one in the bag." Gloria added.
Aster and his monsters finally stopped ascending near the top the remains of Heartland Tower, prompting everyone to look up. The citizens of Heartland in particular, detested the sight of the one who led the invasion being on top of the ruined state of their city's symbol.
"I place one card facedown. With that, I end my turn. Bet you don't feel like smiling now! Get up off your knees and fight!" Aster said in another attempt to prove that he was right.
Getting up, Yuya answered Aster's challenge. "I'll fight you alright, because my dad taught me never to give up. So I'm not giving up gettin' you to duel for fun."
"But Yuya... if you fail Aster will turn our friends into cards!" Yuto reminded him as he looked at Yuya in astonishment. "I know. I'm laying it all on the line, just like my dad!"
Cracking a smile, Yuya declared as he raised his arms, "Get set to scream... to the extreme!
Here I go! It's showtime!" Looking at the card he just drew, Yuya's eyes widened. "Smile World?" "Awesome! No matter how far apart we are my dad's always at my side."
"Hello, duel fans!" Spotlights appeared on Yuya as a drumroll sounded. "Here we go!" Sylvio cheered. Several children behind him and the other Lancers clapped their hands while ignoring their parents' protests not to watch, although they themselves were slowly getting attracted to the duel.
"How pathetic. I can't wait 'til I put an end to this duel debacle."
"Well, in the meantime, I'm gonna reset my Pendulum Scale with the help of... Performapal Marble Fairy and the spell Scale Up! Now I can raise Marble Fairy's scale by two, so it jumps from nine to eleven!"

"All the way to eleven?" Aster quietly wondered. "Yes, sirree! Now I can summon monsters from levels five through ten all at the same time! Swing far, pendulum! Carve the arc of victory!"
Aster realized what Yuya was up to. "That means you can bring back any of your monsters." "Yeah! And I just know deep down, they're gonna be so happy to see you!" Yuya brought his raised hand into a bow. "Get set for their grand entrance." "And their swift departure, when I get through with them!"
"My monsters are ready... to swing into action!" Three lights came out of the portal. "In an encore performance, it's Dag Daggerman! And reprising its role, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! And last but certainly not least... Laugh Maker! Yeah!" Yuya laughed as he had his three monsters back.
"I admit, bringing those three back is laughable." Aster mocked.
"But that's not all! I'm playing the spell Monster Reborn to bring Odd-Eyes Meteorburst back from the graveyard. And now... I overlay both of my Odd-Eyes to build the Overlay Network!" The two dragons entered the portal after Meteorburst was summoned from the graveyard. Just before then, Yuya had another vision of another new dragon.
"Dragon with cool, glacial eyes! Come and bring a wintertime finish to this duel! I Xyz Summon! Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon(ATK: 2800/DEF: 2500/RK: 7/OU: 2)!" Yuya summoned an icy, light blue variant of Odd-Eyes. Its armor was like ice. The moment the dragon stepped onto the ground, a cold, strong breeze extinguished the flaming environment, refreshing those who were feeling the previously hot air that felt like it could melt them.
"Pretty!" The children cheered. Both Duel Academy and the civilians were mesmerized by the sight of the new dragon and scenery.
"By the way, Aster, is your anger meter always in the red?" Picking Smile World, Yuya showed it to him. "Well, good thing I've got the perfect spell to turn that burn! And I know that it's a card that you're pretty familiar with!" As the smile icons came out of the card, Aster recognized it. "Yusho used that card..."
As the field was filled with the icons, Noro recognized it as well. "Woah! It's Smile World!" Grace held her hands to her chest as she exclaimed, "That card could even sweeten up the most sour of sourpusses!" "Yeah, but not Aster." Gloria retorted emotionlessly as Aster grumbled.
"Since there are four monsters on the field, Smile World gives every monster 400 attack points! That's sure to bring a smile to all their faces, right Laugh Maker?" All the monsters had their eyes in a closed happy way and/or grins on their faces as their attack points increased.

"These monsters may be amused, but I'm not! I'm gonna wipe those smiles off their faces!" Aster's declaration was rubbed off by Yuya, who had a hand on his chin as he pondered. "You know, you're one tough cookie! I guess I'll just have to come up with another way to create some fun!"
Snapping his fingers and winking, Yuya smiled. "Like maybe this! Laugh Maker turns into a super-power jokester by activating its special ability In a flash, it'll 1000 attack points for each and every monster that has already gained attack points during this turn!"
"That's 4000 attack points!" A Duel Academy soldier exclaimed. Waves were emitted from the monsters as they chuckled. Laugh Maker spun its scepter around on its shoulder and brought it to a horizontal position in front of it and created a large, brightly lit, pink smile icon.

"Now it's got 6900 attack points!" A Buster Brigadier commented. "Before you know it, Laugh Maker will have Commander Phoenix in stitches!" Perceptra calmly interjected. "Don't be so sure. Yuya still has to contend with Aster's Dystopia combo."
"You just blew it by changing Dystopia's attack points with Smile World! Now it can use its special ability to destroy Laugh Maker!" Dystopia opened the hole in its chest as it engulfed Laugh Maker in its purple blast.
"You no longer have any monsters that can contend with mine. Looks like Duel Academy's techniques are superior to your duel-laming!" Aster told the Pendulum duelist who he thought to have cornered.
"Oh, sick burn! Sounds like you're actually getting into the dueltaining spirit!" Yuya cheerfully replied.
"I think you're mistaken." Aster retorted.
"Well, that's what your brain says. But your heart is telling me something different. Come on, Aster, I know you love dueltaining, just admit it."
"Just make your move, twerp!" Perceptra ordered impatiently.
"Okay, then let's get back to the duel! Since Aster destroyed Laugh Maker, I can summon Brave-Eyes Pendulum Dragon back from my graveyard, and all our monsters on our fields have their attack points zapped to zero!"

"You brought that monster out earlier and it didn't go so well. And it still won't!" Aster's claims didn't bother Yuya a bit. "Actually, if I remember correctly, Brave-Eyes showed that fusion monsters can be used for dueltaining too!" Yuya looked at his dragon as it softly roared. "But I destroyed it in a flash."
"True if you focus on the negatives, but Brave-Eyes put on a show so spectacular it had you scrambling for a strategy. And it's about to start again!"
Brave-Eyes Pendulum Dragon(ATK: 3000 = 3300/DEF: 2000/LV: 8)
Riley became hopeful as he saw the current situation. "With both of Aster's monsters having no attack points..." Gong nodded in agreement. "Yuya's gonna win in this turn!"
"How can he?" Aster taunted. "None of his dragons can get up here. They don't have wings and there's no way they can climb up here, or have their attacks reach me."
Yuya then revealed two cards in his hand. "Which is I'm activating the spell Challenge Stairs! I would've chosen Challenge Escalators, but hey, you take what you can get." A rainbow bridge emerged from the card and started up toward the top of Heartland Tower from its base. Three circles of colored lights, consisting of orange, green and pink, from top to bottom appeared around the tower. "At least now whenever I fail to destroy your monster with an attack, I can tribute a card to let my monster attack again!
And then I activate another spell, Hope Stairs! Now whenever my monster battles yours, it steps up my monster's strength by giving it 400 extra attack points."
The dueltainer, smile on his face, ran toward the tower. "Odd-Eyes, come with us!" Yuya then jumped on Brave-Eyes' back and rode it up the rainbow with Absolute Dragon following them.
Aster closed his eyes as flashbacks of the duel with Yusho started to flood back into him. This duel was too similar to that duel.
"You know when two monsters are evenly matched, the winner's going to be the one who can come up with the best scramble for a strategy. And that, my boy, is what makes a show so spectacular! Don't you agree?"
"No, they're wrong." Aster told himself as he remembered his duel with Yusho.
"Brave-Eyes, blast away at Destiny End Dragoon with Searing Flame Strike!" Following his master's command, Brave-Eyes Pendulum Dragon blasted a blue-colored blast of flame at Aster's monster.
Opening his eyes, Aster declared, "Yuya! I'll start by using Urban Demise to increase Dystopia's attack points by 100!" Dystopia leapt into the air after its attack points increased.

"And next I'm gonna activate, the trap D-Soul! By banishing one Destiny HERO from my graveyard, Dystopia gains its attack points." Aster banished Drilldark from his graveyard and added its 1600 to Dystopia.

"You think you can impress using fusion monsters, well I can too using Action Cards!" Aster picked up an Action Card nearby him and played it. "I activate the Action Spell Double Attack! Making Dystopia stronger than your dragons!" Dystopia flexed as its strength was doubled.

"But why did he do all that when it's Destiny End that's being attacked?" Noro wondered.
"Simple. Because by destroying Urban Demise, Destiny End Dragoon's attack points become the same as Dystopia's!"

"Commander Phoenix has the upper hand!" A boy said in dismay. "If Yuya takes this, he'll lose!" A girl added, worryingly.
"Not when I have Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon's special ability! By using an overlay unit, it negates Brave-Eyes' attack so I can bring out another Odd-Eyes from my graveyard! So I'm bringing the one that I used for Absolute Dragon's special ability... Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon!" Meteorburst returned to the field, right beside Brave-Eyes, after Absolute Dragon used its special ability to halt the attack.
"And my Hope Stairs' takes effect, boosting Brave-Eyes Pendulum Dragon's attack points by 400!"

"It's still not enough to defeat me!" Aster rebuffed. Yuya just kept smiling as he ascended riding Brave-Eyes' back. As he reached the center, he picked up an Action Card. "That's why I'm activating... the Action Spell Attack Force! Now because Meteorburst had fewer attack points than Destiny End, this Action Spell will give it some impact, to the tune of 3600!"

Aster jumped and picked up an Action Card nearby. "I may have lost my monster, but thanks to Damage Banish, I won't be taking damage from your attack!" Destiny End was obliterated by the meteor-shaped fireball that Meteorburst shot as it tried to counter it with its own attack in futility. After the battle ended, Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon gained 400 attack points thanks to Hope Stairs.

"Looks like you're all out of moves." Aster said, unconsciously smiling.
"Nice one, Commander!" One of Aster's soldiers cheered, followed by the rest of his men. "You've got this in the bag!" "We're with you, Commander Phoenix!"
Aster blinked as he continued to hear the cheers for him fro his subordinates. "Why does this make my chest feel... warm and fuzzy?"
"Don't bet on it! Yuya's still got a chance to turn this whole duel around!" Celina started to cheer for her friend as well. "Yeah! It would be premature for a star to leave his audience disappointed!" Sylvio supported the cheer. "Show 'em what you really stand for!" Gong cheered as loud as he could as so not to lose to the cheers of Duel Academy's forces. The rest of their Lancer and Security comrades as well as the people of Heartland cheered fro Yuya.
Everyone had their attention on Yuya and Aster's duel. The duel had become the one that would decide this battle's fate once and for all.
Yuya's sole widened as he heard the support from the audience. He felt confident and comforted that his feelings were being shared by everyone. He felt the same feelings that he had in his duel with Jack. The faith and encouragement placed upon him, the expectation of his victory.
"You're right! I do! And I plan to shoot off a dazzling display to boot!" Yuya declared as he continued the climb up to Dystopia and Aster.
"But all your monsters already attacked this turn! You can't possibly win this turn!" "Seems like you forgot I activated two spells, Aster!" Yuya's finger pointed at the Challenge Stairs he activated.
"Thanks to Challenge Stairs, I tribute Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon to give Brave-Eyes a second chance to attack!" As Yuya tributed Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon, it burst into many pieces of ice that resembled snowflakes. It made it seem winter came early.
"It's snowing!" A girl said while trying to feel the falling "snow" with her hands. "So pretty!" Another girl exclaimed.
Aster then remembered another thing Yusho told him during their duel. "Don't you know that the show's not over 'til the last card gets played? And if you don't believe that, you just might get played!"
"Let's finish big, Brave-Eyes! Now heat things up! Searing Flame Strike!" Brave-Eyes Pendulum Dragon fired a much more powerful and bigger blast of blue fire than its previous one. Dystopia braced itself as the flame consumed it, while Aster just looked on at the blast as it came right at him. Seeing no Action Cards were around, and he couldn't stop the damage from wiping out his remaining life points, Aster closed his eyes and accepted the blast.

After engulfing Aster, the blast rose up into the sky and exploded like many huge fireworks. The fireworks were shaped like the icons of Smile World and rained shiny particles as they fell, making the scenery more beautiful as the people were mesmerized by the spectacle.
"That's gorge." Grace awed.
"A dueltainer beat me again..." "How lame."
Aster, who lost his balance from the attack, fell from the tower, but Yuya quickly intercepted and caught him before he hit the ground while riding Brave-Eyes. Together, they rode the Dragon-Type monster to the ground, via the rainbow pathway. As the Action Field and the monsters dispersed, the still surprised Aster sat on the ground with some of his subordinates, which included Perceptra and Noro, tended to him while Yuya stood, smiling at the sky as it turned from cloudy to clear.
"Yuya won!" Grace cheered happily. "How 'bout a hugzies?" Gloria looked at her sister hugging her with a tired, nonchalant expression.
"I know that you enjoyed that duel, Aster. And so did your men." Yuya spoke as he looked at Aster and the Duel Academy people around him. "You all had fun watching the duel. And even though Aster lost, you don't seem to be filled with hostility anymore."
Smiling sincerely at Aster and the Duel Academy forces, Yuya continued. "Everyone, Duel Academy and the Resistance alike, had fun during that duel. We all smiled without feeling confused frustration or hatred, that's enough proof we all had fun."
Aster and his men didn't confirm nor deny Yuya's words. They all remained silent, no one making a voice. And from their faces, Yuya could tell that they were pondering the new feelings that had appeared, the feeling of enjoying dueling. Yuya took several steps toward them, prompting Aster to look up at the boy. There wasn't any hatred nor anger that was previously there, just calm wondering.
"There's more to life than just taking orders. I'm not saying you should be on our side now, but it is worthwhile to think about other ways to achieve peace." Yuya recounted in his mind all the experiences he went through until now.
Aster stared hard at Yuya's seemingly bright form. He then looked down, staring at his half of the torn Smile World while pondering what Yuya just said. "Other ways..."
"That may be so, Yuya." Perceptra firmly interrupted the silence. Standing up before Aster did, she looked hard at Yuya through her helmet's lens. "But there are also other ways to suffer as well.
Commander! I suggest we retreat back to Duel Academy. There isn't much left for us to do here anymore. We're done here."
Nodding slowly, Aster slowly got up with the help of Noro and one of his men. "Very well... Let us retreat."
With the order given by their Commander, the Duel Academy forces didn't hesitate. After all, most of them needed to do the same as their commanding officer, time to sort out their mixed feelings.
Soon, all the Duel Academy personnel teleported away, via the Interdimensional Transporter option on their Duel Screen. The only one left of their forces to teleport away was Perceptra. She looked at the Lancers with hatred, still evident from even inside her helmet.
"Listen here, Lancers. You may have driven us out of the Xyz, but it still isn't over. There are much worse things in Duel Academy that await you. So you better get ready. Somethings aren't all what the others expect of us." Finishing her claim, Percpetra teleported away, ominously cackling.
A moment of silence passed between Yuya, the Lancers, the Sector Securities, and the people of Heartland as they proceeded what just happened. What just happened seemed too good to be true.
"He beat them..." A Resistance member finally uttered. "They all cleared out of here..." A survivor added in astonishment.
"We won!"
Yugo raised his fist as a victory sign. That was all everyone needed to finally believe that the invaders had retreated. After suffering for so long, they had emerged victorious. Particularly the people of Heartland were extremely happy. They jumped for joy, cried in relief, as they felt completely happy for once in a very long time. Their dream for peace partly finally being completed.
As they cheered, Yuya looked at the spot where Aster and Perceptra disappeared. It may have been his imagination, but he thought he saw Aster smiling as if he accepted the facts Yuya pointed out before he left.
"I wonder... if I was able to do it right." Yuya wondered quietly while holding his pendant.
"I'm sure you did. Just give them some time to figure it out for themselves." Yuto smiled assuredly at Yuya. "You were able to emit your true feelings to them."
"Yuto..."
"Although... I'm wondering what Perceptra said. What did she mean by "somethings aren't all what the others expect of us"?"
Duel Academy - Fusion Dimension
At that moment, Perceptra was walking down a hallway in Duel Academy. She stopped in front of a wall. Doublechecking that nobody was around and there weren't any cameras anywhere, Perceptra slid open a section of the wall to reveal a number pad. Typing in a code, the section of the wall opened to reveal a passageway. Doublechecking once again no one saw this, she entered the doorway. It closed behind her after she was in, making it look like nothing had happened to others.
There, it was revealed to be a long descending passage into a cavern network underneath Duel Academy. The place was lit with torches and braziers that hung from the columns and walls. Perceptra walked for some time until she found what she was looking for, Madame Chaos and her second-in-commands, Lady Minerva and Hydromancy. They were patiently waiting for her with the six other Chaos Inquisition captains, who all had different border colors on their shoulder capes than her. In total, there were three boys and six girls in the place, excluding Perceptra.
Kneeling before her superiors, Perceptra lowered her head. "I'm sorry to report that we have been driven out of the Xyz Dimension. However, I bear good news that Yuya's Awakening had reached a new level during the battle."
"Then all is going according to plan." Madame Chaos said with approval. "The Lancers will soon be here with their allies..." Turning around 180 degrees, Madame Chaos then walked to a strange emblem on a banner that was lit up by two braziers. It resembled a curled serpentine dragon with massive wings, but with evil-looking eyes and a wicked figure. "... And then the true reality will set in." She then softly chuckled, which was slowly shared by those present, echoing ominously throughout the caverns.
