Klaus doesn't just take Stefan away, he takes away the necklace too, the necklace once Stefan gifted her, because any symbol of love she was supposed to have, was to be given by him, not anyone else. Klaus has changed since the last time he met her, and Mikael killing both Eve and Jeremiah right in front of her played a major role in it, he became paranoid day by day, only once did he ever dare to adopt a child again, only once again did he open his heart up for Marcel and then had to watch Mikael kill his other son too. Not this time he thought, this time he would let anyone lay a finger on him and his family, this time he would build an army so big that no one would dare to touch the people he loves.
His siblings can't be killed but now that he has got his other family back, his desire to protect them, to keep them safe was on top of his to-do –list. And now that he has broken his curse, he would create more hybrids, and when he has built his army he will return to her and make her recall her past with him.
While Klaus was gone and Stefan was not around too, Elena had time to think, she was feeling alone, first Stefan was gone and then her necklace went missing, as her days were passing Damon was always around.
When Damon was near she was always alert, reason being she is still not over that horrible memory, the memory where Damon first forcefully kissed her and then when she denied him, denied kissing him, denied to sleep with him, he killed her brother.
She and Damon were getting along well but deep down she knew that a part of her was still scared, she still feared how Damon would react if she ever rejected him again, so each time after that horrible day whenever he made advances towards her, she let him, she didn't stop him.
Not out of love, but out of fear, after all, there is only one thing Elena feared and it was losing her loved ones. To her friends, they thought she was in love with both brothers but she wasn't, she was in love with Stefan and she was scared to reject Damon. The goodbye kiss she placed on Damon's lips when she thought he was dying was to occupy him with her so that he doesn't go anywhere near her friends or her brother, so that he doesn't harm them in this mental state of his.
The entire summer passed but she never let Alaric leave her house, one reason was that they needed their guardian, other was Jenna's happiness but the most important was that Damon behaved whenever Ric was around. And she knew that until Damon doesn't feel rejected by her anymore he was her muscle power, and in her honest opinion she needed the muscle power her friends and family safe but that doesn't mean keeping him around was safe either.
On her birthday Stefan called and she tracked him down to the mountain top where Klaus had turned an entire pack, they were in transition and they were dying, he knew something went wrong. Then he gets it, a scent, so familiar, he would never forget, he smelled her, looked down from top of the mountains, there she was, with the history teacher and the elder Salvatore, he knew she had her people but it was dangerous for her to walk these mountains alone, he jumps right in front of her and the three of them, Damon, Elena and Alaric are shocked.
Without giving them time to react he grabs Elena by the arm and speeds her far away from them, "What the hell are you doing here?" he demands, tone aggressive, concern hidden.
"Where's Stefan?" she questions.
Jealous, as he already was, Stefan's name didn't sound good to him on her lips, he turns and speeds away, believing he has taken her to a safer distance. But he was wrong, a few werewolves had woken up and shifted into their animal forms, Klaus was a werewolf too and the werewolves could read each other well, it didn't take them time to realize that this girl was important to him, the minute he leaves, three thirsty werewolves jump right in front of her.
She was sure Klaus definitely brought her here to feed her to these animals, a wolf jumps on her and she screams. Klaus was at a distance dealing with his failed hybrid experiment where all of the pack had woken up and were attacking him but the minute her scream reached his ears, he returned to that same place where he left her, he saw blood marks, proof that she was dragged, he follows the trail and soon reaches her.
The wolves had dragged her under a tree and were biting her, one on the neck, one on the stomach and one on the shoulder.
"Get away from her" Klaus commands and to his surprise they do. They were still in there animal form, something surprises him and he says, return to your human form and they do. Everything comes into place, his mother put the curse in such a way that even if he broke the curse, he won't be able to make hybrids, the ones who fed on Elena, were indeed sired to him.
Then he looks at her, she is scared, she is shivering, twisting in pain, when he approaches her, he hears her heart race, "Was throwing me to the wolves not enough, you want to hurt me more?" she asks
"You really think I'd hurt you" he asks in a soft voice.
"You did kill me, and now you threw these animals on me, I can see it, they are under your control, you are a monster" she cries on the last part. But to her surprise, Klaus bites into his wrist and places it before her mouth, she looks at him surprised. "Drink up sweetheart, or I'll have to force it down your throat."
She holds his wrist and drinks from him while he pulls her up, rest her head on his shoulder, her back on his chest while he strokes her hair gently. She was fed on by animals, there was still blood on her but the wounds had healed, he dips his finger on the soaked top and puts it in his mouth, there was no vervain in her system, obviously, it bled out, then he smells her and there is no sign of vervain on her, once she is healed, he compels her to sleep.
Orders the transitioned hybrids to guard her while he goes to the rest of the pack to end them, he would have ended these hybrids too for daring to feed on her but their punishment shall wait, once he decides what he has to do for them and how he had to deal with things.
Stefan shows up to him, "Hey, I had to kill Ray Sutton, but he bit me, can you give me some of your blood."
Klaus bites into his wrist and pours blood in a bear bottle, hands it to him, "Bottoms up."
Stefan drinks the cure and thinks f his meeting with Damon, Damon told him that Klaus took Elena but Stefan knew Klaus wouldn't tell if he asked but when he heard Elena scream, he was on his way to her but he saw Klaus healing, stroking her hair like a lover, something didn't feel right to him but he knew better to show any signs of love towards Elena in front of Klaus, lest he may do worse to her, he heard him from the distance compelling her to sleep and ordering those three hybrids who miraculously completed their transition to guard her. Somehow he knew Elena was safe yet, he was waiting for Klaus to reveal it to him himself.
Klaus tells Stefan, "I have to make you meet someone"
And Stefan thinks he is talking about Elena but Klaus tells him, "Go down the hill, meet at Gloria's bar in twenty four hours, I'll reveal the rest later."
"Gloria's bar, twenty four hours, what is it Klaus, you can tell me now, or are you not going to come with me."
Klaus tells him, "Just do as I say friend, the rest will be revealed in time."
Stefan was worried for Elena but he prayed to God that he (Klaus) doesn't harm her while he was away.
When Elena wakes up, she finds herself in a bed in an apartment, Klaus was sitting near the bed in a chair, his eyes were close, his head was resting back on the chair, he was asleep. She looks around, the room is empty, it's just the two of them, she gets up from the bed without making noise, she reaches for the door, she opens the knob but old doors, the minute she opens it, the door makes some creaking noise and Klaus is up, before she could step out of the room, he has thrown her back in the chair where he was sitting before and then keeping his hands on her wrists, he questions (compels) her.
"Whatever I ask you, answer me honestly"
She repeats, "Whatever you ask me, I will answer honestly."
"Tell me Elena, what were you doing in the middle of the woods that late night?"
"I was looking for Stefan"
"How did you know Stefan was here?"
"He called me on my birthday, I traced him."
"Why bring Damon along?"
"Muscle power, in case I need protection from you."
He chuckles as if Damon stands a chance against him, "Now tell me sweetheart, why keep Damon round you, if that's muscle power what you need, there are vampires older than him I could compel to guard you."
"Because I am scared of him."
"What?" he repeats as if it is the most dumbest thing he has ever heard in his life, "Why would you be scared of a man who is in love with you, as is Stefan, and so am I?"
Before she could answer, he compels her again, "Forget that I told you that I am in love with you, now tell me your foolish reason to fear Damon."
"I am scared of what he'll do if I reject him."
"If he is in love with you sweetheart, he wouldn't harm you."
"I am not scared for me, I am scared for Jeremy, I am scared for Jenna and I am scared for my friends."
"And why is that? It's not like he is killing them or something."
"He is" she says looking at the floor, "When Katherine returned to Mystic Falls, she told him she never loved him, then he showed up in my bedroom and forcefully kissed me" his fingers curl into a fist, someone using force for this is not right, and someone using force on his Eve is the worst mistake of their life.
She continues, "But I refused to let him take it any further."
"So he stopped?" Klaus questions
"No" she answers, "He wanted to sleep with me but when I rejected him I told him I didn't want this, he killed my brother."
She hears something break and looks up to see the flower vase which was placed earlier on the night stand now near the far wall shattered in many pieces.
"How did Jeremiah return to life, I believe your friend Bonnie was involved"
"It's not Jeremiah it's Jeremy" she answers and then she tells him, "Jeremy was wearing the Gilbert ring, the ring brought him back to life."
"And yet, you let him touch, be near you, be near your brother" his anger was now pointed towards her not him, his back was towards her, his head tilted and he was looking at her from the corner of his eyes.
"Denying Damon of what he wants is more dangerous and I have learnt this lesson the hard way."
"What do you mean you have learnt this lesson the hard way."
"Damon is dangerous, he abused my friend Caroline, he turned Vicky into a vampire, he killed five people and burned their bodies when Stefan took his daylight ring from him, he killed Stefan's best friend Lexi, once he force fed me his blood and tried to kill me when he learnt I was…"
"Enough" he yells, cutting her off mid way, "You are telling me, that despite the monster that Damon is, you let him be near you, be near Jer and you're here while that monster has returned and could God knows what to my son."
"Jeremy is not your son" she tells him, voice louder.
"Oh one day you will remember Elena who is what, but for now, there is only one more thing, I want you to do."
"Which is what?"
He speeds towards her so fast, she flinches back, she doesn't know he isn't dangerous to her, but Klaus is mad, he is maddeningly angry, he compels her one last time again when he looks deep into her eyes and tells her, "Invite me in to your house, your lake house and every other place I have to be to keep you and Jer safe and out of reach from that monster of a man."
Looking deep into his eyes she repeats, "I invite you to my house, my lake house and to other properties that are on my parent's name."
Klaus' cell rings, the call is from Stefan, "Klaus, I have been waiting in Gloria's bar for you, it's been more than an hour, tell me where are you and who did you want me to meet?"
"Change of plans Stefan, we're going back to Mystic Falls, I will make you meet that person there."
Stefan thinks Klaus is hiding the fact that he still has Elena with him, he was in contact with Damon, he knew Elena hadn't returned yet, and if the only way for him to see Elena again was for him to return to Mystic Falls, then he would. Stefan disconnects the call.
Klaus' attention is back on Elena, "Your clothes are torn due to the animal attack, you go and take shower, I'll get something for you to wear" before he leaves, he tells her, "And don't leave without me Elena, this is a big city and you might get lost."
Elena gets up and walks into the bathroom, when she looks at her clothes in the big mirror she realizes Klaus was right, he clothes were torn due to the animal attack, she goes to the shower and closes her eyes. When she closes her eyes, it is not Stefan's face that she sees, it is Klaus', she opens her eyes immediately. Once she has showered, she comes out wearing a robe and sees the clothes Klaus brought for her, the simple sober style she wears, red crop top, black denim, and to her surprise, everything fit her perfectly.
Once she had dressed up perfectly, all that was left was her hair, she sits in front of the mirror, decides to tie her hair up in a ponytail but once she grabs the comb, Klaus keeps his hand on hers. Making eye contact with her through the mirror he asks, "Allow me to do that sweetheart."
She doesn't say anything to him but loosens her hold on the comb so that he may slip it out of her hands, all this time she didn't break eye contact with him. Klaus combs her hair and she feels something so deep inside of her that she cannot tell, she cannot tell what she feels, but the feeling is good, the touch is familiar, the feeling of him combing her hair is déjà- vu, it's intense, and once Klaus is done, she likes what he has done to her hair, it's braided in a French braid and she loves it, she has never set her hair this way and Klaus smiles deep down.
In his heart he questions, "Do you remember my love, this is how I did your hair the first time when I taught you how to use your sword." Klaus places a soft kiss on her head before he gets away from her and asks her to follow him.
