Chapter 3

Snowpaw held the moss in her mouth as the padded towards the elders' den. It was part of apprentice training, though she detested it. The grassy, dirtt in her mouth tasted very weird so she tried all she could to avoid touching it with her tonge. Inside the den, she found Quinpaw talking to Coralwing. "What do you mean 'you're too tired'?" she heard her yell. Quinpaw didn't look distressed at all and simply replied "Oh I'm sorry an apprentice like me can't fill your expectations. Wouldn't you act the same? Didn't you do the same as an apprentice. Maybe you've forgotten, but I'm the one doing the work finding you this stupid moss!" she threw the moss on the ground in front of Coralwing. She growled at her as she left and took her place. "Hello, Coralwing. Sorry about Quinpaw." Snowpaw said "She can get a little short-tempered."

"Well, she should try stop being like that. She'll get into serious trouble!" She retorted and sat down. Snowpaw gently added the moss she found and slowly nodded.

"Thank you Snowpaw. At least you don't have storms in your head." she joked. They both laughed and Snowpaw waved her head as goodbye as she went to collect more moss. Sirentail was standing outside the elders' den. "Hello Snowpaw." she greeted. Snowpaw halted and looked up at her mother. Her eyes were filled with love, looking down at her kit who will soon become a warrior to defend the Clan. "Oh hi! What brings you to the elders' den?" Snowpaw asked.

"I just wanted to see how my little kit is doing." she replied in a sweet voice.

"I'm not a kit anymore! I'm a soon-to-be warrior!" Snowpaw said, embarassed. Sirentail laughed and started to pad into the elders' den. "I'll talk to you later!" she called and began to chat with another cat. Snowpaw turned and kept walking, she had to search for better moss.

In the distance of the dark shadows from the trees, she saw two, green, piercing eyes. "Hello?" she called, dropping her moss. "Who's there? This is RiverClan territory!" she growled showing her sharp teeth. The figure's eyes moved swiftly across from shadow to shadow, her eyes not leaving Snowpaw's. "Answer me!" she frantically looked around, hoping to see her mentor or another warrior somewhere. But she was all alone. When she turned back, she realised the eyes were gone. She searched all around, twisting and turning to track down the emerald, green eyes. Then she found it. Unsheathing her claws, she found the enemy. Fur the colour of a shadow and green eyes. Snowpaw pounced in the air and flung herself towards the intruder. In a flash, the enemy dodged her attack and she hot the hard ground. Spitting dirt from her mouth she turned around to see a cat with her claws unsheathed and her jaws wide open to bite her throat. She tried to escape, but the cat already had grip of her. The cat's claws were scraping deeply into her fur. She tried to struggle free, but in vain. In the end, she had to use her last resort. He hind legs. With all her might, she kicked her hinds, flinging the cat off of her, but dealing her serious cuts too. Her shoulders full of blood from the would she scrabbled to her feet. She felt weak but at the same time, she didn't feel surprised. She was still an apprentice and maybe after this incident, she'll never be a warrior. Then the words rung in her ears. But if we find you in our territory, you won't have an apprentice to train. Did Lionfoot not listen to their warning? Were ShadowClan cats out to get her? Panting frantically, she heard a new voice arose "Wait! Please!" she looked up with her ears drooped from weakness. The black she-cat was running towards her once more! She was finished. "Stay away!" Snowpaw cried "I didn't mean to go near your border!"

"Snowpaw, calm yourself!" the she-cat's voice said again. She was getting weaker and weaker.

"How do you know my name?" Snowpaw asked with the last of her energy.

"It's me, you stupid furball! Quinpaw! You're sister! I'm so sorry for the-"

"Quinpaw?!" Snowpaw panted "That was you?" she couldn't stay on her paws any longer. In a blink of an eye, she dropped to the hard, wet, grassy ground.

"Snowpaw!" Quinpaw's words began to fade out of Snowpaw ears. Everything was going blurry and her eyes were begging for her to let them close. In the end, she gave in and everything was black.
