The first time he saw her was on the way to school one day. Nothing suspicious. He saw her again the next day during the football practice. She was watching him from safe distance. Sitting on the … Once again nothing suspicious. But he saw her again when he Jordan and Sarah went to the diner together. She was hiding behind a newspaper, sitting on a bench, and watching them 'discreetly'.
This is a small town. It is not unusual to meet the same person multiple times. But now Jonathan was sure that she was stalking him…
Why else she was following him in her car, while he is out jogging. He only wanted to let out some steam. He really had to get out of the house after this terrible day. And the words of his mother still hurt. Even if she didn't mean it like that. She even apologized while he stormed upstairs to change in his room.
To get out of the house and to calm down he decided to go for a run. So, he quickly changed into his jogging pants and into another shirt and left the house just a minute after the fight. He even heard his brother reproaching to his mother, that she went too far this time. But Jon didn't care, he had to leave.
His father arrived from the devil knows where, just seconds before he left, and it was clear that he knew what happened. Jon yelled something about 'spying' before leaving his stunned father behind. Mad that he did it again. His father might be able to be at every point in Earth within seconds, but he had no clue how Jonathan feels right now.
Being the son of Superman and having a twin brother with superpowers might sound funny. But in truth it was not as funny. After all that mess going on in the past few months since he and his brother learned the truth about their father, he was just exhausted.
His perfect life in Metropolis turned out to be not more than a pretense. His friends he thought he has, were not truly his friends. The girl he loved turned out to be only interested in QBs and not in him. In his new school he struggled to adapt and still not really felt included. And after breaking his arm twice over the past year, he was falling more and more behind.
This isolation starts to affect him negatively. His teammates, who used to bully him and didn't accept him at first, seem to accept him now. But he was still feeling that he was not fully integrated. And his attempts to prove his part in the team were seen as useless by the others.
He was always good at sports and physical activities. His parents always guessed that it was because of his heritage. Being the son of Superman must had affected him, his parents always guessed. Jonathan was mad. He thought that everything he ever reached in his life was because he was the son of Superman. His whole life turned out to be a lie.
When his brother developed powers and he not, it was kind of relieving. He was satisfied with his position as the human one in the family. Together with his mom, he was the human-section of the Kent family.
Over the past few months, he witnessed his brother's pain, every time a new power was emerging. He witnessed the pain and the fear and helped him threw it.
But he was also happy for his brother that it seemed to help him overcome his anxiety. Even when took his place in the team, broke his arm the first time and seemed to get all the attention now. His parents always told him that it is great that he supports his brother that much.
Now after months of training and fatherly advice, Jordan was able to use his heat-vision to toast bread, light candles and his hearing was under perfect control now. Jonathan knew it was a matter of time before Jordan was able to fly without their evil Kryptonian granduncle. But where was Jonathan now.
He was struggling with the easiest things. He couldn't play anymore and felt so… weak among his Kryptonian family. There were these moments, he felt like being at the wrong place…
And now the fight he had with his mother. It hurt. Her words really hurt. He wanted to cry. He really wanted. His mother burst out in tears when she realized what she just said and tried to apologize immediately. But then it was Jon who pushed her away and stormed out. Ignoring everything. Just leaving for a run.
Over the past few months, he did everything possible to stay in shape. He May not been able to shoot lasers out of his eyes, or hear the grass growing in Mexico, but he was always good at football. He focused on that. He might never make it into the professional ranks (thanks to his heritage it was impossible) but he tried to continue at least in the school.
But the isolation left its scars. But running was helping to keep his condition well. So, he ran around on his typical track. Across the fields and along the road, surrounding their farmland. Sometimes he stopped to make a break and to check the time. His phone was at home. Forgotten on the table. But he was just out for less than an hour. No need for his parents to worry, he thought. He would run a little bit more and then go home when he is powered out.
Jonathan mentioned a car. A white Sedan. Standing on a free space, between some trees. The same car, he saw passing him before when he ran across the street. A coincidence? The driver was still sitting on the wheel. When Jonathan passed the car, he saw a woman.
But then he mentioned that it was the woman he saw before. Again…
Jon starts to run faster. The car starts to follow him. He thought about running into the bushes to hide. Who was she? This woman followed him. There was no doubt. Why? Who is she? Jon knew she was following him for days. Does she know who his father is? Does she think that he is Kryptonian? Jon looked around. There was no place he could hide properly.
The car was still following him. Bad day to forget your phone at home. Or the special device only your father can hear. He could clearly see her. And the sudden change of her expression…
With squeaking tires she braked. Jon turned around to see her terrified and worried. Seeing her shocked and fearful expression, let him forget his own fear. She cried… Jon could see that she was more afraid than he was.
Carefully she opened the door of the car and stepped out with raised arms. She surrendered. Jon was surprised. But it could also be a trap.
"I am sorry. Please I only want to talk…" she said afraid.
Jon had no clue how to react to this. That darn ELT was in the trousers he put off and left on his bed. And yelling for his dad would only be too suspicious. This woman could be everyone…
"Please, don't be afraid. " She said worried. Jon was surprised to hear a thick and kind of scary accent. Russian, maybe? In any case at least Slavic. The same accent he hears in movies when the evil Russian spy shows up.
"What do you want from me? Why are you following me? " Jon asked mad and fast. He didn't care for the woman maybe not understanding him. Is she a Russian spy? Does she know things she is not supposed to know?
"I am so so sorry. I did not want to scare you. You are Jonathan Kent, aren't you? I came all the way from Jevropa to see you." She said and came closer. Her eyes filling with tears.
"Ehm… yes? Who are you?" Jon asked still nervous.
The woman was definitively not from around. Jevropa sounds like Europe. So, she was obviously from Europe. Eastern-Europe, Jon guessed. He was still upset but it sounds funny how she pronounced his name. But she was speaking clearly. She obviously knew their language well enough to understand everything.
"I am… I was living in Metropolis, 15 years ago. I and my husband we wanted to live in this country. In America we wanted to start all over again. I was pregnant… You… Birthday is May 3rd 2007, isn't it?"
"Yes, where do you know that? " now Jonathan was a bit more scarred.
"I got, letter from hospital. Two years ago. There was a big mistake. On your Birthday, they made mistake. I don't know how to tell it… but…I think, I am your mother! "
Please review and keep well.
The idea to this story came while writing my previous story 'Small town gossip'. I wanted to write something, nobody tried before.
