It is somewhere around the three thousandth day that you realize it - they can hide from you forever.
Because even though the feather has power plenty and your eye still has worlds to see, the reality of time remains. Because it is they who are eternal and it is you who is ephemeral.
You've searched for so long it seems almost the opposite - that you will go on for forever and ever - at least until you find them. You've acquired a patience for this hunt, tempered by the thought of seeing them again, in the flesh.
You must see them again. Because, you tell yourself, you have all the time and patience in the world.
