BlueMoon Goddess: Alright guys, I'm back with a brand new story! I took a bit of a break since, as usually, I've been working on getting clips for my AMV's, which you should check out. My name on YouTube is CrystalMoon7290, so take a look of some of my AMV's. Anyway, let's get into the first chapter, happy reading!
Disclaimer: I don't own InuYasha, it's characters, or 'Royal Dragon' which this plot is based on.
Summary: Why did life hate her? Kagome's day couldn't get any worse. First, she gets fired from her crappy job, then, she gets kicked out of her apartment and was homeless. But the cherry on top was getting kidnapped and taken to be hunted by demons so she can mate with one of them. Yea…she probably shouldn't have gotten out of bed that morning.
Today just wasn't her day.
Kagome recalled the song that had the saying 'today was a good day.' Well, whoever wrote that song obviously wasn't describing the day she was having because, today certainly wasn't a good day. First, the bus se takes to work had arrived early and she had to run after it for about a half a block. To make matters worse, the driver didn't stop, the dick. Which in turn, she had to wait and the next bus arrived ten minutes later. So when she arrived to work, she was approximately twenty minutes late. But to top it off, when she went to clean one of the rooms, some creepy fuck was jerking off and the freak wanted her to just keep cleaning while he got off! In addition, he had the nerve to try and pay her off while he pleasured himself from watching her clean. Talk about insane! Kagome was so pissed that she cursed him out and left the room without a second thought.
This was one of the reasons why she hated her job. That might've been the first time she experienced something like that, but aside from cleaning questionable stains out of the linens, along with smelling like cleaning supplies by the end of the day, it sucked. She didn't want to clean hotel rooms for the rest of her life, but work was work and at the moment it was all she could get. She didn't have the opportunity to be picky, even though it was only temp work, she hoped by the end of this month, she'd be up to date with her rent and then she could start saving.
Living in Seattle all her life, she was ready to get her life on track. With the money she saved, she could go to college. At least with a degree, she'd be able to get a better job than cleaning hotel rooms. Maybe she could go in another state. She always wanted to go to California and see New York. Hopefully when she saved enough she could do just that. One day…one day soon. She just needed to get out of this hole she was in and get enough to be able to save. It was going to happen.
"Kagome."
Kagome turned her head, when she saw that one of her coworkers called her. "Yes, Heather?"
"Margaret wants to see you in her office, now." Heather told her.
Great. Now the Executive Housekeeper wanted to see her. As if this day couldn't get any worse for her. From working the few months at this hotel, Kagome knew that Margaret wasn't too keen on her. Too often, the head of housekeeping would assign Kagome the worst rooms to clean, get the worst trolly, along with being shortened rooms to clean as well. As a temp, she only got paid for the rooms she cleaned and if she wanted to make any money, she couldn't have her rooms shortened.
Kagome pulled in a deep breath. She smoothed her uniform down, put a smile on her face and opened the door.
"It's about time." Margaret Hall was a middle-aged, severe woman. She reminded Kagome of that old lady from that cartoon she used to watch as a kid. What was that woman called? Oh yea, Ms. Finster. Margaret certainly reminded Kagome of that woman.
Her hair was cut short and her face devoid of all make-up. Her mouth was upside down in appearance. Kagome swore she had yet to see the woman smile, even once. She wasn't looking at her, the woman's eyes were on her laptop. She continued to type for a few minutes, as Kagome remained standing at the head of her desk. Seriously? Kagome only got fifteen minutes for a break and already she was wasting them. If it wasn't that important, Margaret could've asked to see her when her shift ended. This woman really did detest her.
At long last, Margaret removed her glasses and raised her eyes to Kagome who tried not to take a step back. The older woman shook her head slowly. What was her problem? Was it because Kagome was late this morning? It couldn't be. It was first time she was late, and if that was the case, the woman needed to calm down and be like Elsa and let it go. However, Kagome wanted to be on this woman's good side, so as much as she didn't want to, she better just apologize and be done with it.
"I apologize for being late." Kagome told her, sincerely. "This is only the first time in all the months I've been employed at this hotel. I'm reliant on public transport."
"Take a seat." Margaret pointed to the chair in front of her desk.
Her office was cramped. As with most hotels, the housekeeping department was in the bowels of the hotel. The laundry, staff change area and housekeeping office had been squeezed into a small space, not much bigger than a hotel room. Her desk was covered in stacks of paperwork and open files. The shelved walls behind her were filled with more of such files. They were labeled things like orders, staff, room checks and maintenance.
Margaret cleared her throat. She sighed. "We have to let you go." She said, without batting an eye.
Kagome narrowed her eyes. "What do you mean?" She tripped over the words. "I do a good job, I'm hardworking. I was even told by my supervisor I might be getting a permanent position, once my temp position was over." She huffed out a breath when she realized that what she was saying was having no effect on Margaret.
Margaret looked at her, deadpan. Her glasses still in one hand. It was like she couldn't wait for Kagome to leave so that she could carry on with her work. It didn't matter to her how this news would affect Kagome.
"Why?" Kagome finally asked. She swallowed hard, pushing down the panic that threatened to overwhelm her.
If she lost this job, she wouldn't make rent, again. If she didn't cough up the money to her landlord by next Tuesday, she was certainly going to get kicked out. So far she'd been on track to do just that. It had meant living on ramen and toast, but hey. She was doing it. Now this. If she didn't find a way to change Margaret's mind, she was going to end up on the streets.
Panic churned her gut and turned her hands clammy. She fought not to squirm in her seat.
"Did you, or did you not, swear at a hotel guest?" Margaret cocked her head to the side.
No.
Fuck no.
It was the pervert from the room she cleaned earlier this morning. That fucker had actually filed a complaint about her. "Um... what? No." She shook her head. "That can't be right. He didn't…" Anger welled up in her. "I can't believe he actually filed a complaint about me. The bastard."
Margaret looked taken aback. She leaned forward on her elbows and finally let her glasses go. "You just called a hotel guest a bastard. Well, at least this proves that you did swear at him. Don't even try and deny it now."
"He's a pervert. He was naked when I opened the door." She blurted. Oh great. Now she had made it sound like she'd walked in on him.
Her boss cocked her head and raised her brows. "All that tells me is that you didn't follow correct procedure. It certainly doesn't make him a pervert."
"I knocked and announced myself, three times. He called moments earlier requesting a room clean. I entered. I most certainly followed procedure, to the letter." She wasn't going to just accept this. Forget it.
"You saw him naked and swore at him." Her superior gave a small shake of the head, looking taken aback.
It sucked to high heavens that Margaret immediately took the side of the guest. The customer might be king but that didn't mean that he was always right. "He told me to clean his room. Said to ignore him and he seemed like an okay guy so I got to work." She pulled in a deep breath. "I should've left. It turns out he was a major pervert. He started…" Kagome wasn't a prude but the way her boss glared at her made her feel like she was the pervert, not him. "He started to touch himself… inappropriately. I asked him to stop. He didn't. Instead, he offered me money to clean his room while he touched himself. I'm sorry, but I'm not desperate or depraved. There was no way I was staying in that room for a second longer. It was sick. He swore at me. I was just defending myself."
Margaret picked up the phone on her desk. "Please, can"—she put her glasses on and peered at the screen—"Sandra Jilks come to my office?" Then she replaced the receiver in the cradle.
"I swear to you that—"
Margaret held up her hand. "I've heard enough. I need to speak with Sandra and then we can conclude." She turned back to her computer and continued typing.
It was the longest seven minutes of her life. She felt like the kid who got called into the principal's office. Kagome could tell that Margaret wasn't interested in what she had to say. Hell, the woman had fired her before hearing her side of the story. And she was still on her break. Who gets fired during their break anyway? This was almost as bad as someone getting fired on their day off. But it didn't matter, the more important question for Kagome was what the hell was she going to do? Even if she found another job today, there was still no way she was making rent on Tuesday. Her landlord had been clear about any more non or part payments. He wanted the total outstanding by Tuesday, no excuses.
There was a light knock on the door before it opened. "You called?" Sandra ignored Kagome completely. "How can I help?" Sandra was one of the permanent workers at the hotel.
"You cleaned room 211 earlier this morning?"
Sandra nodded. "The gentlemen complained that he had asked for a room clean. The room attendant that showed up originally, swore at him and left without doing the room. I went and sorted it out. He was quite upset. I had him direct his complaint to the shift supervisor, as per company policy. He was happy when I left and accepted the apologies put forward. He was given a free night at the hotel for his troubles when he checked out at noon."
The bastard! Kagome had to bite her tongue to stop herself from saying her piece.
"Excellent, Sandra. Thank you for your time and thanks for coming in to clear this up."
"Anytime. I'm glad I could help." Sandra finally looked Kagome's way. Her smile tightened and her eyes narrowed just that little bit.
"You can go now." Margaret nodded and gave the barest ghost of a smile to Sandra.
Once the door closed, she turned back to Kagome. "Please be sure to return both sets of uniforms by the end of business tomorrow. They should be laundered to hotel standard. Should there be any damage, the cost will come out of your last paycheck. Should you not return your uniform on time, the charges for them will be deducted from your wages. I'm disappointed, Ms. Higurashi."
"He was jerking off in front of me. I didn't do anything wrong! He's the one that you should be disappointed in, not me." Kagome rose to her feet. "I don't want to work for an establishment that doesn't look after its employees anyways." Margaret didn't wait for a reply. Kagome turned and walked from the room. She didn't slam the door behind her even though she was sorely tempted. She wouldn't give that beady eyed, troll the satisfaction.
She was a temporary employee, there was nothing she could do. It would be her word against his. She already knew how normal he looked. How clean cut, good looking, and the type to throw money around to get his way. Asshole!
Maybe her landlord would give her one last chance. Kagome could only hope.

This meeting wasn't going well. Not be a long shot.
From what Inuyasha was witnessing, he could tell that his brother wasn't giving in to what was being proposed lightly. However, he needed to try and bring the peace to what was going to happen. If there was any hope for this empire, his brother needed to listen.
"No." Sesshomaru growled. The word was accompanied by the whites of his eyes turning red. There he goes. It looked like at any moment his brother was going to transform into his true form if he didn't calm down. The demons in front of them better watch it. Or else not only would they have an angered Sesshomaru, but a transformed one on their hands.
The demon, who was a fox daiyokai spoke calmly, but from what Inuyasha could see, judging from the tic in his jaw, he was anything but. "You arrogant bastard. We are going to take humans whether you like it or not."
"Do that and I will kill you." Sesshomaru's voice was even. "That goes for all of you." He let his gaze go from demon to the next before returning to the fox.
The other daiyokai's didn't say a word. Although Inuyasha wasn't sure if it was because they knew their places. Something was brewing and it was clear that these men had discussed this amongst their selves at length.
The daiyokai fox leaned forward in his chair. "You're going to single handedly destroy our species. Just because you despise humans and the fact that your father became victim—"
The fox didn't get a chance to finish his sentence when he suddenly found himself on the ground.
"Say one more word and I'll kill you, myself." Inuyasha gritted out, anger radiating off of him as he was holding down the fox demon, claws posed for attack. He was supposed to be the one to keep the peace, but the fact that this demon was blatantly talking about his mother wasn't going to be tolerated. "If you're going to convince my brother that what you're proposing is something that can help keep this empire going, do so. But don't bring my mother into this by tarnishing her very being." He growled.
The fox daiyokai, leaned back in his seat. "My sincere apologizes, Inuyasha, it was no harm intended to you or your linage."
"Apology accepted." Inuyasha sat back down. "Now let's get back to the issue at hand."
"Agreed."
"Most of the females within this land are infertile and some have migrated to the human world as well and taken on human mates. I do not see why we cannot do the same?" Another daiyokai, who had long red hair, said.
"Just because they were willing to do so, we do not have to succumb to their level." Sesshomaru said, his voice calm and even. "There are still some fertile female demons within this land. Simply find some that are and mate with them."
"Some aren't willing to bare children. We as rulers in our tribe and section need heirs and those females aren't willing to settle down, no matter what our status are." A daiyokai who appeared to be a dragon, spoke up.
"We have spoken amongst ourselves and we have come to an understanding." The fox daiyokai said. "There is one option that could help this land and that is the only way to appease the demon males."
"You want to resort to that?" Sesshomaru raised his brows. "The foraging?"
"It is the only way, Lord Sesshomaru, to insure that our lineage continues on." The red-haired daiyokai replied.
"Um, what exactly is this foraging?" Inuyasha questioned.
"It is when demons go to the human world and pick a handful of females to transport them to our land and we battle for one to become our mate. It has been over four hundred years since a foraging was issued." A water daiyokai with his blue hair tied in a high ponytail, explained.
So that's what it was. If Inuyasha recalled, he did remember his father once telling him that was how he met his mother. But now that he heard how this worked, it seemed to be a good idea to ensure that the tribes and the empire had suitable heirs. It obviously worked before, hence him being here, and surely it will work again.
"You speak of taking humans and diluting our bloodline with such vile creatures." Sesshomaru said.
"Sesshomaru." Inuyasha warned him.
"It cannot be helped!" The fox daiyokai boomed. "Offer another alternative if you have one. We have no choice."
"I agree." The water daiyokai leaned forward. "We need to follow this path. Our tribes deserve mates, as do the rest of us."
"Agreed." The red-haired daiyokai added. "We are becoming desperate."
"Taking human mates is the only solution. We cannot take too many at once though, a handful of females. Males who take part in the hunt can win themselves a female. The usual rules will apply, that way it will be an equal opportunity for all demons who want to participate."
The idiot actually thought that he, Sesshomaru, ruler of the western lands, would lower himself and take part in this? For a human? Hardly a prize. Human mates. It was absurd. Humans were far lesser beings. So far below the demons. They were small and weak. He had never once contemplated being with a human. Why, should he? He was a powerful daiyokai and no human was going to be up to par with him. It was a travesty. Even though his father choice to take a human as a wife and produce his half-brother, that didn't mean it would certainly work.
"You assume that this would work?" Sesshomaru spoke. "You know how some half-demons come to be. Some do not even possess the amount of demonic power and most females cannot handle the strain of childbirth, some even miscarry."
"That happened in some cases." The water daiyokai said. "There has been a huge success rate for the last few hundred years, with Inuyasha being a prime example of the succession rate. He possesses the blood of the great Toga. Imagine other hanyous that would be just as great."
"And where will you find these females?" Sesshomaru asked.
The water daiyokai smiled. "We'll simply take them."
"No way." Inuyasha shook his head. "Just because we're demons, doesn't give us the right to kidnap human woman."
"Kyo is right." The fox daiyokai said. "We have no other option but to take some of these human females. I've had scouts on the lookout for the right ones. Young, strong, fertile and—"
"No." Inuyasha interjected, again. "How will it look when human females suddenly start to go missing? Aside from the implications, it wouldn't be right."
"What if the females were in need of rescuing? What if they were lonely, hungry, and destitute? We can save the females, offer them a better life and in the process, we can save ourselves as well." The fox demon, Jiro, suggested.
"It's walking a fine line. Just because someone is desperate and lonely, may not mean that they want to become the mate of a demon."
The dragon daiyokai shifted in his chair. "It's not ideal." He conceded. "Though we demons have everything a human female could want. We could offer them good lives. Most beg me to take them with me when I return from the human world. It's the same every time without fail."
The red-haired daiyokai shrugged. "Maybe we should forget about the hunt and bring females back with us who express an interest in becoming a demon's mate." He raised his brows.
"We've discussed this at length." The dragon daiyokai growled.
Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes. "So far listening to your idea seems pointless. It would not work. If you bring human females to this nation, the males would fight over them. How would you decide who is eligible to take a human mate? It would be difficult to regulate. A good number of human females would go missing and this would draw attention. What if a female was deceptive and left a mate and children behind? It could be disastrous."
"The last two points are probably the biggest concerns." The red-haired daiyokai looked thoughtful for a second. "It's a worry regardless of how we proceed."
"Not if we only take females who are destitute." Jiro said. "I have already sent some of my men to the human world and they've already allocated numerous females. None of them have family or even many friends. They would be perfect candidates."
"Perfect candidates to abduct?" Inuyasha sounded exasperated. "Listen to yourself."
"To be rescued!" The Jiro's booming voice filled the room.
"Let's just say that I agree to this outrageous scheme." Sesshomaru sucked in a breath. "We would need to come up with a fool-proofed plan. Females would need to be in a terrible state and in need of saving. They would need to have everything explained to them."
"That would include them being treated with respect and kindness at all times." Inuyasha added on to Sesshomaru's words. "It should also be noted that even if a male wins one of these females fair and square, he may not force himself on her. Any male found to be forcing a female will pay with his life. The human would need to agree to being mated and later impregnated. She would need to be a willing participant at all times."
"Females will be afraid initially. It's a given." The water daiyokai took a glug of wine.
"If a female doesn't want to be with a male, no matter how hard he tries to win her, then she will be allowed to leave, to return to her old life." Inuyasha said.
"That seems reasonable enough." The red-haired daiyokai said in agreeance.
"I do not like this idea in general. In fact, I detest it." Sesshomaru started. "However, if it will appease the demons and assure mates and heirs, than I have no choice. I am not ready to commit to a yes to such a widespread mating of human females. However, we will select a certain amount of human females and a few willing males and issue the foraging. If this works within months' time and the males have heirs, I will consider another foraging the same time next year."
"Works for me." The fox daiyoki said, with the other men nodding and agreeing in word.
"Then it is decided." Sesshomaru stated. "Within a few days, after hundreds of years, we will begin the foraging."
