"3...2...1..."
As Gabby and Steve popped the balloon, pink confetti showered over the happy parents as they kissed each other and everyone applauded. "Our second reveal is our godparent choices." Steve said as they swapped cards and opened them to see who would be the godparents. Everyone quieted down and began to whisper among themselves. Steve and Gabby approached Mike and Jo as they were standing near each other. Steve handed Jo her card and she opened it while Gabby did the same with Mike.
Jo looked up at Mike from where she sat as they opened the cards together. They were both in disbelief and at a loss of words. Mike looked at Steve and shook his hand. "I'd be honoured," he said turning to Gabby kissing her cheek and hugging her.
"As would I," A teary Jo said hugging them both tightly and kissing their cheeks as she wiped tears from her own.
"Alright, parents in the middle. Godparents either side. Smile," Frank said positioning them and taking the photo. "I will get copies out to everyone when I get home."
Everyone congratulated the parents to be as everyone mingled together.
"How do you know everyone?" Cate asked sidling up to Jo as everyone mingled around them.
"I work for All Saints Medical Response Unit with Mike and Steve," Jo replied sitting on a hay bale at the back where there was no one else.
"Doing what?" Cate askedd, sitting with her also as Adam walked over and pulled another hay bale over to join them.
"I'm a specialist paramedic," Jo responded, draining the last of her wine and looking around for more.
"So you're a paramedic?" Cate said not getting the gist of Jo's job.
"Specialist paramedic is correct," Mike said, handing Jo another glass of wine and Adam a beer.
"My job entails hanging out of choppers, swinging off sides of cliffs, abseiling etc. It also entails being safety officer for the boys so they don't get injured." Jo explained, taking a sip of her drink and pushing a loose bit of hair back out of her face.
"Sounds like fun. I just got transferred back to All Saints," Cate said as Gabby joined them.
"Jo you got a few minutes?" Gabby asked as Jo stood up from where she sat.
"Yeah absolutely. Excuse me," Joe said, excusing herself and following Gabby away from the little group. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm all good. Thought I would save you from the awkwardness," Gabby laughed as they looked back over as Mike walked away and Cate struck up a conversation with Adam.
"Very awkward. Are you certain on your decision of me being bub's godmother. I can't guarantee a lifetime with the Huntington's gene," Jo said explaining her worries as Gabby handed her another drink.
"I'm certain. We are both certain. I couldn't ask for a more stronger or independent woman to help raise our daughter." Gabby said hugging Jo tightly before letting her go as Steve and Mike walked over and joined them.
"All good?" Steve asked as Jo and Gabby wiped away tears as they laughed at their timing.
"Yeah, just girl stuff." Gabby said as the boys gave each other a look that said it all.
"Have you thought of any names?" Frank asked sidling up to the group as they sat down.
"Actually yes, come with me Frank. I'm going to need your help," Gabby said pulling the older man away from the others.
"I'll be back," Jo said, handing her glass to Mike and walking towards the house. Cate noticed and followed her inside.
Inside
Jo opened the toilet door and nearly walked into Cate who was standing there, waiting. "Sorry," Jo apologized side stepping her and into the bathroom to wash her hands.
"So, you and Mike. What's happening there?" Cate asked standing in the doorway, blocking Jo's exit as she looked at her through the window.
"Uh, nothing. He's my boss." Jo said standing up straight and drying her hands before turning to face the other woman.
"Again, what is going on between you and Mike?" Cate asked repeating her question again. Still blocking Jo's exit.
"Again. Nothing. He is my boss, my best friend. If you got a problem with that then I highly suggest you get over it. I don't know what happened between you guys and frankly I don't give a shit. Not my business. Now excuse me and move," Jo said as Cate stared at her as she pushed her way out of the bathroom.
Cate laid a hand on her shoulder as she left the room, "You may be pretty but he will never want you," Cate said removing her hand from her shoulder.
"That's okay, cause clearly he doesn't want you either. And jealousy is not a good look on you." Jo said, walking out and into the backyard again.
"All good?" Gabby asked as Cate skulked out of the house after Jo.
"Yep, just girl talk." Jo said giving her a smile as Cate walked over and said her good byes.
Soon enough the party came to end and so did the weekend at the farm. The trio said their goodbyes before leaving and returning to Sydney.
Monday morning-0700
"Good morning," Steve greeted as he walked in for his first day back with the unit.
"Morning," Mike and Adam said at the same time as Jo walked out scraping her hair back quickly and putting a hair tie around it to hold it in place.
"Morning, get dressed and meet us downstairs. Two hikers stuck on a side of a cliff out in the Blue Mountains," Jo said, picking up two medikits and leaving the office.
"She's not messing around today is she," Steve said to Mike as he went into the change room and changed into his uniform quickly.
"When doesn't she. Be careful out there," Mike said as Steve emerged and once again left the office.
Twenty minutes later Gabby came knocking on the door with Frank in tow. "Good morning," Gabby said coming in and sitting down in front of Mike's desk.
"Good morning, to what do I owe the pleasure?" Mike asked, leaning back in his chair as Gabby explained what she wanted to do. Mike nodded along. "Sure, but when she asks where you got this info from, don't tell her it was me. Blame Frank or something."
"Oh I don't worry. I have a cover story for this," Gabby said as Mike slipped her a piece of paper with a name on it. Gabby smiled and they all chatted for a bit longer.
A few hours later the team returned covered in mud and blood. "Bloody hell, was it raining out there or something?" Mike asked as Steve and Adam disappeared into the change rooms.
"A storm hit in the middle of the rescue," Jo said, sitting her medikit down and sitting down in the chair before leaning back in it.
"What happened to your lip and eyebrow?" Mike asked noticing the wounds as he stood up and walked over to her. He grabbed a chair and sat in front of her.
"Uh...well," Jo started as he grabbed a alcohol wipe out of the medikit and began cleaning up her eyebrow.
"There was a slight rock fall, Jo got caught in the middle of it and hit a couple of times. She needs an x-ray of her foot too, it got stuck and she won't let us touch it." Steve said, finishing the story for her as Mike turning to look back at her.
"I'm fine," she simply said, dabbing at her lip to get rid of the dried blood.
"Yeah sure, give me your foot," Mike said grabbing her foot gently and taking off her boot carefully. Jo glared at them both as Steve grabbed a chair also and held her leg still as Mike examined her foot. It was swollen and bruised. "X-ray, I'll call ahead to radiology. I want to rule out fracture."
"Fine, I'm going to have a shower first though," She said getting up and hobbling away quickly.
Bree and Gabby walked off the elevator and into the office. Steve greeted Gabby with a quick kiss as he helped her sit down.
"Where's Jo?" Bree asked, sitting down on the couch to wait.
"Having a shower, then going to radiology," Steve said as he sat next to Gabby.
"It's fine," Jo said emerging from the change rooms shouldering her messenger bag.
"We will take, we've got girl stuff to talk about," Gabby said standing up again to leave with the girls.
"Like periods," Bree said out of the blue causing the boys to shudder and the other two girls to put their heads in their hands while laughing.
"I don't think Gabby has that problem at the moment, " Jo said pushing Bree out the door and leaving the boys to fend for themselves.
