A/N: Hey guys! Back again with another update, hope you like it!
"If I was made to love you…" he wonders out loud, the words coming out in a whisper. "Then how could you bring me pain?"
He's not sure what started it, he really should given how far it's gotten but all he can remember is the way her eyes flashed with anger as she dropped his hand…and how he felt his heart shatter into pieces.
"Leave me alone!"
It feels like rejection. Something he hasn't felt in a long time—something he shouldn't feel, not from her anyway. Not since he started to hold her hand, and kiss her against the sunset and call her his.
He physically recoils, the hand she pushed away burning as his chest aches from the metaphorical stab.
It only got worse from there but he can't really remember it. Just a blur of movement and words until right now. Right now that has them sitting on the floor of an unused stable a few feet away from each other.
It's oddly reminiscent of a time from when they were young, a simpler time, despite the hardships of then.
Because back then they had just been two people. Now they were meant to be, at the top of the pedestal of relationships, so in love that nothing else mattered.
And yet…
The pain of her words and actions hurt him more now than it ever did back then.
Love is supposed to soften the hurt. The ones that love you won't hurt you.
So how could she?
He gazes across the barn, the dim glow of the lone lamp illuminating the darkness of the night. She's slumped forward, head hanging low, but she looks up at his words, the whisper carrying through the silence of the night.
Their eyes meet for the first time. He sees them break. Sees the way they fall apart as tears come rushing down.
His heart pounds and his breath stops as he realizes that he just hurt her. His thoughtless words had just brought her pain. That metaphorical stab she delt to him, how easily he'd done the same.
Rushing forward, he cups her face in his hands, a jumble of words pouring out of his mouth trying so desperately to explain he hadn't meant to hurt her. Hadn't meant—hadn't known it would cause her pain.
An accident.
A careless slip of words said at the wrong time.
He gets it now.
How easy it is to hurt the ones you love.
And that it only hurts this much because you love them.
Holding her close, he continues to mumble apologies into her hair as she wraps her arms around him. They stay there like that, in each other's arms, eyes tired from crying, hearts heavy from hurt.
"I'm sorry too," she whispers softly, breaking the silence.
He knows. He understands now. Because opening your heart to someone means everything, good and bad.
He pulls back to meet her grey eyes. Sees the love pooling behind them.
The ones you love can bring you pain, but…
She reaches up as he bends down and their lips meet in a sweet kiss…
They can also heal it.
A/N: Another semantic of love is that love can hurt, bring you pain. And that it only does so because it's that important to you. Relationships aren't perfect, the ones you love will hurt you. But it's important to know how to work through it, and the first step is realizing that sometimes words and actions have consequences that you couldn't have known, and as a result, forgiveness is important.
I know this one was a bit angsty but I hope you liked it nonetheless.
Please Review! I'd love to hear your thoughts!
And as always, thanks for reading!
See ya! :)
