Disclaimer: I do not own the Harry Potter franchise, nor am I making any form of profit from this bit of fanfiction.
I don't know where to start, so I will start with the facts. Lord Voldemort is dead as is Harry Potter. Ironically enough they did not kill each other, instead they were killed, as were approximately 92 percent of all sentient life on this planet. Of this number a mere point two percent of the wizarding world survived.
The cause of this massive world wide destruction, nothing more then the push of a button, a relentless wave of basic human fear, a nuclear bomb, or more precisely two of them one detonated in Stonehenge, England, the other in Washington, D.C. How did this horrible event occur you may ask yourself, simply enough I'm sad to say, someone leaked the knowledge of Wizards and Witches to the muggle world at large and this caused basic mass hysteria to the degree that things went, out of control, to say the least.
I cannot tell you who dropped the first nuclear bomb, though I can say for certain that it did land in Stonehenge, the site of Harry and Voldemort's "epic battle". Or at least it landed close enough to obliterate the entire United Kingdom and everything that lived there. Everyone gone, all gone, except me and a handful of others that were abroad.
I personally believe that everyone else assumed the Americans dropped the bomb on the UK and were retaliated against with a bombing of their own, but I do not believe that the Americans dropped the actual "Henge-bomb" as it is called. Call it gut instinct, but I'm fairly certain that government was aware of their wizarding population at the very least and wouldn't have caused this nightmare. But really, this is all idle speculation at this point and I am trying to stick with the facts.
Fact, No, wizard, no matter how powerful, can survive a nuclear bomb landing even ten miles from them.
Fact, After the bombs dropped and the majority of Eastern North America and Western Europe were wiped out a large debris cloud rose into the sky and obscured it, most likely for the next century of our existence.
Fact, We are now entering a rapid ice age, with most people who are able to walk and think rationally attempting to get as far away from the radiation and to whatever "safe" lands exist.
Fact, While Wizards may be able to heal a great many things we are not gods and even we cannot stop radiation sickness, disease, or our present living conditions.
Fact, Despite there being merely thousands of humans left on this planet the remaining wizarding population is still being hunted down to this day, all blame squarely falling on our shoulders for the nuclear bombs, despite the obvious fact that we do not possess nuclear bombs.
As George would say, "We can't bloody well wave our wands around while shouting Dropus the Bombus and expect it to work, but try telling that to a bunch of ignorant muggle wankers."
Fact, to date George is the only Wizard I knew from Hogwarts that is still alive.
Fact, to date, George and I are pretending to be muggles, living with them, toiling in whatever small patches of ground aren't rapidly freezing over. Trying, on the sly, to perform simple magics to help ease our passage where we can.
I do not know if we will survive, but I do know that having George with me helps and without him, I do not know if I could have held on to my sanity. Even months after the world came crashing down I still find myself comforting George in the middle of the night, holding him while he fights the nightmares, the dreaming confusion of knowing his entire family is gone.
