ARC III: PLEASE BE MY HUSBAND!

CHAPTER TEN: I still Hadn't Asked for His Name Yet!

'I wonder how thick her face is.'

All people stared at her, the look on their faces are priceless. They couldn't believe how shameless she is! She not only proposed to Kazuya on their first meeting but also claimed him as her husband on the same hour! They felt the room temperature dropping as Oliver gave her the meanest and scary death glare. The others shivered in fear seeing that face but the young woman just winked at him and gave her a flying kiss.

'Ah. And she's fearless too. This arrogant and mean 'Mr. Mt. Everest' had finally met his match'

"But before we start the discussion about me and what happened a year ago, can we first get out of this place?" Mai broke the silence and sat on a couch.

"Don't you know that what we are dealing here is a demon?"

That proclamation returned the seriousness inside the room. Mai received all of their looks and saw their confused eyes. Mai thought it made sense that they didn't know yet because they just came today. Mai brought out all the information she gathered while she was out and gave them to Oliver with a sweet smile. Oliver tried his best to ignore her meaningful gaze and ran his eyes through the papers she gave him. His companions also went to his side to read the printed words on the paper.

"I am not invited to investigate but two people had been missing now so I went to the town to make a little digging. Apparently, Miyama Kaneyuki-shi had been hiding skeletons on his closets. LITERALLY." Mai said in disgust thinking about the skeletons that was displayed like trophies. Oliver took out a picture and showed it to Mai.

"Is this Miyama Kaneyuki-shi?"

"Yup!" Mai answered looking at the picture of a man wearing a yukata. "Behind him is the original structure of this house. You can see the old map on the next page."

Oliver flipped the papers and saw a photocopy of an old map of the residence back then. There are three buildings in total; the main building, the servant's house and a small two-floor building behind the maze.

"All of that were currently covered by this mansion. The renovation was also done strangely because the thing Miyama Hiroyuki-shi wants is to cover up the things that his father is doing. Once, he was asked by a servant why he is adamant on renovating it and he answered that it was done to shut the spirits in and trapping them."

"Miyama Hiroyuki-shi did say that according to the witnesses Ohashi-san had gathered." Oliver agreed to her, putting down the papers on the table.

"Yup. If you also observed the ages of the people who had gone missing, you can tell that they are young; not any less than thirty. This is why Ohashi-san and his old staff, Igarashi-sensei and the others were safe after staying in this house after so long. Of course, this also mean, we are all in danger."

They are narrowed their eyes and frown as they checked the papers Mai had given them. And she is correct. All the missing people are young and not one of them are old.

"But why did you say Miyama Kaneyuki-shi literally stored skeletons on his closets? You said that what we are dealing with is a demon, why do you say so? And what do you mean 'his father is doing'?" Oliver asked, his eyes intently gazing at her.

Not only him, Lin is also on full guard and he is ready to protect everyone if this young woman done something wrong. He is also afraid that she would attack using the force that she had used on his shikigamis. It shows how skillful she is. Mai felt suspicions and sighed, scolding herself for previously acting suspicious.

"Because I saw those skeletons that show how many people he had killed. I also encountered that demon myself so I am sure of it. Lastly, Miyama Kaneyuki-shi is killing people for their blood." Mai answered them, forcing herself not to shiver at the horrible memories she had seen this day.

"The demon is the evil presence a while ago?" Takigawa-san asked as Mai nodded. She was quite glad that they felt it too. That means, they do not doubt that she had encountered something before meeting them.

Takigawa-san was also amazed that this girl had just escaped that evil presence. He and the others knew that it was dangerous. And based on her calm expression, it is clear that she had already moved on from it and showed no signs of trauma. That means she is very familiar with things related to paranormal.

"Why are you so sure of it?" Oliver asked making Mai groan and buried her face on the couch pillow. "Because I saw-no, I experience it."

"Experience it?"

"Yeah. So if you're planning to do a séance and summon a spirit, you better forget it. The spirits had no intention of telling you what happened. They want you to experience it. That is what happened to those recent missing people." Mai answered.

She is very guilty that she couldn't save the two of them. Mai saw their spirits roaming around the mansion and she also touched their souls to gather more information. They are the one who saw the skeletons on that room.

"You mean, Atsugi-san and Suzuki-san?" Oliver asked. Eugene whipped his head when he heard the second name. It was the same name as the ghost that he helped with Mai in their first meeting.

"Uh-huh. They got taken by the demon because their team had tried to summon a spirit. Though that man with the Minami Company or whatever only called out a spirit using a Ouija board, he still managed to attract one because this mansion is packed with spirits. I had encountered their souls after I arrived from the village a few hours ago."

"My brother did mention that you have the ability to see ghosts."

"Yup! By the way, I also found out that it is safe outside the mansion. I learned from the local children that they used to play soccer in the backyard and no one of them had ever gone missing."

"Noted. But I am curious about your abilities. Did you talk to some spirits trapped in this house?" Oliver asked again but Mai didn't answer him because the monitors and other equipment caught her eye.

"Whoa! Look at these devices! Your method of investigating is so systematic and unique! Just like the one written in Dr. Oliver Davis' book!"

Eugene, Oliver and Lin froze on their feet as they heard that name. Oliver glared at Eugene asking if he ever mentioned his name in front of Mai in their first meeting through their link. Eugene shook his head in denial but he admitted that he did told her his real name. Oliver shook his head as he watched Takigawa and Mai enthusiastically talking about him and his book.

"Whoa! I can't believe you are a Dr. Oliver Davis fan too! Did you see the rumored PK demonstration where he threw 50kg aluminum block to the wall?!"

"I am not really interested in him being a PK user but I did purchased the limited first edition of his new book! WITH. HIS. AU. TO. GRAPH!" Mai pronounced every syllables of her last sentence, making Takigawa even more excited.

Oliver looked away in embarrassment, his ears are tinted pink, while Masako, Eugene and Lin stifled their laughter. Enjoying both Oliver's embarrassment and the two's squealing in delight.

"No way! It is said that there are only 10 books with his autograph! How did you get one?!"

"Of course! I'm rich." Mai answered with a wink, her fingers forming the sign of money.

Eugene almost choked on her smug smile. He still had not forgotten about the 'gift' Mai had given to her a year ago. They all look at her, dumbfounded and speechless, AGAIN. She really gave them a lot to be surprised about. Mai suddenly sighed dreamily and cupped her face with both her hands.

"Haaay. If I had not found my dear husband a few minutes ago, I would've gone to England and marry Oliver Davis instead."

Yasuhara, Takigawa, John and Matsuzaki twitched their lips, their face is full of disbelief. They heard Gene spitting out the water Masako gave to him after that declamation. They saw the weird faces that the official SPR members are making. Kazuya's face is much more livid than a second ago. They all thought it was because of Mai's absurd wish. But it is not!

'Hahaha! Damn right! No need to go to England, you JUST proposed to him! You're SOOO LUCKY! Hahaha!'

Eugene let out a hysterical laugh, holding his stomach for dear life. He bit his lip when Oliver glared at him but that still didn't stop him from laughing at his brother's 'demise'.

"Oh! Please don't get jealous, my Dear Husband! Now that I found you, I will still choose you over a hundred Oliver Davis!" Mai said with a wink seeing Oliver's annoyed look.

She, unfortunately for Oliver, mistaken that look for jealousy and she was kind of obligated to explain to him. Oliver's face turn a hundred shades dark.

'Hahahaha! I can't-! Hahaha! HE IS Oliver Davis! Hahaha'

Eugene rolled on the floor while beating the floor, biting his lips for him not to laugh. Masako and Lin turned their back on them, their shoulders are shaking furiously, while Oliver Davis went behind the monitors to hide her blushing face. He can't believe what is happening!

'This woman…!'

Takigawa shook his head and put his hands on the young woman's shoulders. "That makes sense, Young lady. I mean, how can you marry an old man?"

Mai raised a confused face and pouted at the. "Oliver Davis is not an OLD man!"

"He is. You may not have met him earlier but he came with a bunch of investigator to solve the case." Matsuzaki answered, smirking and waiting for Mai to be disappointed but the young woman just laughed at them.

"That? That person is not Oliver Davis!"

"Huh? They clearly said he was!" Takigawa and Matsuzaki told her simultaneously. Lin got alerted by this and Eugene also ceased his laughter. Masako tilted her head in awe, wanting to know why Mai said that.

"But if that is Dr. Davis, he would have started his investigation by setting up devices like you do. Why else would he write how paranormal can be considered as science if it's not investigated in a scientific and systematic approach?"

Her argument stunned all of them. Takigawa and John both nodded after thinking of the way that 'Oliver Davis' investigates for the past hours since they arrived. Matsuzaki and John gave her a pair of thumbs up while Takigawa sighed in disappointment.

'She's an Oliver Davis fan indeed.'

Mai suddenly looked around after a sudden thought. Her eyes went to search for the man who had the same face as Eugene but she could not see even his shadow. She stood up and checked behind the monitors. She knew her Dear husband had hidden here but even his shadow was not in sight.

An ominous feeling crept into her heart. She keeps telling herself that the husband who she had teased a while ago just went to the bathroom. She clearly felt no presence a while ago so there is no way that he was caught by that demon.

Mai bit her lips and look again, her instincts are telling her that he is really kidnapped by that evil creature. The people with her felt something wrong as they watch. Mai saw no one in the bathroom and that's her bottom line. She screamed in panic as she grabbed her hair.

"AAH! Where is my dear husband?!"

'Damn that demon! I still hadn't asked for his name yet!'

Oliver cursed under his breath as he tried 'knocking' on Gene's 'door'. He didn't know how long had he been sleeping. He heard his brother's worried voice in head after a few seconds.

'Noll! You okay?! Why aren't you answering a while ago? I thought you're dead!'

'I am alive. I was unconscious. How long was I gone?'

'For about three hours now. You sure you are okay?'

'Yeah.'

Oliver answered him, his voice is hoarse because of his parched throat. He couldn't believe he was kidnapped by a ghost and personally experienced passing through walls. He was just hiding behind the monitors when all of a sudden, a pair of hand caught his arms and dragged him.

'Oh gosh. I am very glad you're okay. Mai and I was about to go nuts!'

Oliver frown at the mention of that woman's name. That woman is the most eccentric, daring and creepiest woman he had ever met. She is also very annoying. Nevertheless, Oliver hated that he doesn't feel unpleasant by her touch. Her big brown eyes are also very mesmerizing.

Oliver snorted at the thought and shook that thought out of his mind. His ego is not accepting the fact that he find that crazy woman beautiful. He heard Gene's voice in his head again after a few seconds. He must have informed Lin that I am still alive.

'Noll, what happened?'

'I was caught by a demon and is currently on a laboratory that reeks of blood. You all prepare and evacuate the others out of the mansion.'

'Noll, what about you?!'

'I am fine. Just tell Lin to help me.'

'What?! Don't tell me, you'll blast through walls?!'

'Only if I really got into something troublesome. I'll gather data while I am here. Good thing I had a camcorder with me.'

'Damn you! You're currently in danger but all you think about is gathering data?! You better get out alive or else I'll follow you to death!'

Oliver sighed at his brother's nagging voice. He took out the night vision camcorder with him and turned it open. The whole place he is in really reeks of blood and rotten. He points the camera in front of him and he jumped out of shock at the sight of two bodies on the camera's screen.

Thought the night vision camera. Oliver saw their heads that were separated from their body. He also recognized them from the pictures that he had gotten from Ohashi-san. They are the assistants that had gone missing yesterday. Their bodies are stuck on top of each other and the floor have blood puddles on it.

'H-Hey, Noll! P-Please talk to me, you're worrying me!' Eugene's nervous voice rang out in his mind. He can tell that his sibling is very scared based on the shaking and stuttering.

'I am still alive. Did the others left the mansion?'

'Yeah but we planned to hack through the walls to save you. We are in the entrance of the mansion. I didn't know what Mai did but she led us towards the place where we can get to you faster. She knew where the laboratory you mentioned is located.'

'Maybe that is one of her ability?'

'I don't know but I'm trusting this one. You don't know how nervous she is knowing that her 'husband' is still missing.'

Eugene emphasized that word making Oliver frown. While he listen to Eugene on how that woman ordered a bunch of small bombs with money, Oliver moved his camera and assessed the room he is in. it is exactly the same as the small room he saw while using his psychometry on Suzuki Nao's belonging (contact lenses case).

He sneaked out with Lin while the others are setting up the base. So he was also stunned when Mai suddenly had the same information they gathered from that vision. Only he, Lin and Eugene knew the information of how the victims died.

Through the night vision camera, Oliver saw a familiar old bath tub made of ceramic in the far corner. Oliver could tell that the dark liquid in that tub was the blood from his recent victims. He remembered how they brutally murdered the victims on the metallic table that was placed at the center of the room.

While looking around, Oliver felt a presence behind him. Those familiar cold dark hand, once again, stretched towards him. This scene made him feel a sense of dejavu as he moved his body away from those hands. But what he didn't notice is behind him, a tall figure of a man in a bloodstained white lab coat was ready to contain him in a death grip.
