When I woke up the next day, it was to a sound of hushed commotion from outside, probably out of the building itself. I blinked my bleary eyes when I noticed that the screen that greeted me was not what I expected.
[Slept in a bed! Checkpoint!]
I dismissed it and frowned. No full HP and CP regeneration? Where the hell was that? Does this mean I'll actually have to go to a doctor if I get a sickness debilitation?
I sighed and stretched, lurching forward to sit on my bed with a small smile. Swiping my hand from top to bottom, I opened my menu to navigated to the skills section.

Exercises Discovered – Leaf Balancing (12 CP/sec)]
While I trained and slept, I was exposed to even more tainted chakra, so the skill seemed to have advanced. Nice. A twelve percent resistance to all chakra attacks was nothing to scoff at… although I was confused how it applied in practice. Oh well, it seemed I can't just figure out everything at the drop of a hat.
Also, after a certain point last night, shortly before I collapsed into a deep slumber, the [Chakra Control] skill seemed to have hit a plateau. It seemed like after those twenty levels, no matter how hard I tried to progress the skill, even resorting to multiple feathers at some point, the skill just wouldn't gain any experience.
Thinking time!
There are several exercises to controlling one's chakra. In the manga, only three such exercises were explored – the Leaf Balancing, Tree Climbing, and Water Walking exercises. Since my skill was not individualized but grouped together all the chakra-control I could do, maybe it took different exercises to level it up? It totally made sense!
I took in a deep breath and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Zero, zilch, nada. No stat gains for figuring it out.
My Gamer ability was completely stripped bare, wasn't it?
I had to use perk points to purchase [Gamer's Mind], and [Gamer's Body] was yet to be purchased. Hold on, that must be why my Hp and CP did not regenerate the way I expected it to! Maybe I had to purchase the ability to gain stats from manual work too?
There went my plan for amping up my stats like crazy. I navigated to the Perks menu, but only [Gamer's Body] was still available. It seemed I had to purchase the bare bones before I could do much more at all! I navigated to my stats page and checked how much I needed to level up.
[Next Level: 120xp]
An increment of 20xp? Wait… When I was level 5, it had taken me 100xp to level up, which meant a 20xp per level tacked on. Did this mean every time I levelled up, I needed 20xp more to progress to the next level?
Okay, wow. Either I was super low in level or experience was really hard to come by in this world. I really hoped it was the former, because the latter option was just too cruel to comprehend.
I stretched my fingers in front of me and catalogued my plan for the day. If I could max out Leaf Balancing in one night, could I max out Tree Climbing too? That's one. I also need to find out where I stand in this world. I'm obviously an orphan, but how well was I liked? I don't know what I've been doing for five years of my life. Was I a stubborn child? An obedient one? Additionally, I also needed to plan out my skill list and abilities, so I had a solid foundation to work on and improve as time went by.
I also really needed to create the Observe skill. Well, that I could do right here and now.
I looked at the bedframe. I tried to really concentrate, try to notice every speck of wood, and the designs that went with it. What kind of wood could it be? Was it of any benefit?

I leapt out of bed and meandered over to my wardrobe, opening the creaking door with no little sense of trepidation. Okay, I really liked dressing well and looking good, alright? I really hope that my past self wasn't a total snob or something.
I was not disappointed… per se.

Okay, so I had limited options. Of course, coming from an orphanage, I expected much less, so I was satisfied. I grabbed the items with one hand and opened my inventory with the other, tossing them in to check if…
Yes.
The momentum of an object did not impact whether or not the objects actually landed in my inventory. This… was awesome! Instant protection against throwables, and they just got added to my inventory, to boot! I wouldn't have to spend much on Kunai or Shuriken if I got shot at a lot!
Once again, I was vaguely disappointed when there was no alert telling me one of my stats had gained a point. Ouch.
Regardless, I looked around my room and my eyes landed on a cup that held a simple toothbrush and a half-used tube of paste. Thank god. If I had [Gamer's Body] I wouldn't care too much, but I wasn't sure if I acquired a debilitation like a cavity or something, and then purchased [Gamer's Body], that it would go away anytime soon.
I scanned both them, as well as the cup for good measure.

Sweet! Well, I know what skill to grind for today before trying Tree Climbing!
I took the cup and made my way outside. The halls and rooms were silent, but the rush from outside still persisted. Well, the ninjas were surely working overtime trying to fix the damage Kurama did to Konoha, so…
It took a bit of looking (and scanning a bunch of things on the way for that sweet, sweet experience) but I managed to find the communal washroom. After doing my do, I returned to my room to deposit the cup, equip the black kimono, white tee, and brown shorts before making my way downstairs.
Through the actual glass windows on the ground floor, I was able to look outside and see it was still pretty dark. I shrugged, making my way over to what seemed like the kitchen, only to spot a rather portly old woman at the stove, smoking a cigarette while stirring away at a pot.
Okay, the stereotype of an orphanage cook, much?
I scanned her.
[Aoi – Level 6

Aoi is the cook at the Konoha Orphanage. While a total bitch on the outside, she's actually a real softie for kids.]
Okay. I've been alive for less than a day in an anime world and I've already encountered a tsundere. How quaint.
"Good morning, Aoi oba-chan." I 'yawned', waddling into the kitchen.
The woman turned with a glare on me, but it softened a bit when she saw exactly who it was, I think. "Gundan." She grunted, and damn but her voice was deep as fuck. "What are you doing up so early?"
"I just woke up." I replied honestly, coming to stand next to her. Unfortunately, since I was much too short to actually look past the counter top without standing on my tiptoes, I settled for nestling my hand in her skirt, playing the little orphan I was. "What… what happened yesterday, oba-chan?"

Now was really not the time! I surreptitiously waved the screen away.
She inhaled deeply and sighed out smoke. I envied the action, but until I got [Gamer's Body], I wasn't going to even risk trying a cig. "A bad monster attacked the village. Don't worry, it's caught now, and has been put into a baby. It's upstairs, but don't worry, Mika and I will protect you from the demon."
Okay, this was something that always irked me. Apparently, the older people in the village always knew Naruto was the Kyuubi and were willing to go through extreme lengths, such as printing the wrong stuff in the history books, to keep to their lies. So…
Wait. Now that I was here… could I… change that perception somehow?
"The monster turned into a baby?" I 'gasped', eyes wide. "Is the baby in pain?"
She gave me an odd look before returning to her… cooking. Honestly, what dish required so much stirring? "Why would the de- um… baby… be in pain?"
I looked at her as if she were stupid, which probably ended up being an adorable expression because her face softened even more. Okay, boyish charm to the rescue! "Well, if there was a monster in me, I'd always be in pain, right? Because monsters are bad!" I exclaimed, with an over-the-top nod. "The baby must be in pain, too, because of all the bad feelings!"
Aoi stopped stirring abruptly and turned to look at me with a horrified expression. "But.. I... oh… oh, Kami…"
PING!
It took a lot of self-control for me to ignore the screen and not pump my fist in joyous success. That was one person who now actually saw Naruto as a human being! I'll change the way the village thinks about him one at a time because… ostracization is an evil, evil thing. "Do you think he needs help? I would hate to be in pain, so what about him?" I asked, pouting for good effect.
"I… I don't know." Aoi admitted, shutting off the gas and setting the spoon aside. "I should talk to Mika about this. You stay here, okay?" she hurriedly asked, and then proceeded to… waddle… out of the room as fast as her old stubby legs would carry her.
As soon as I was sure I heard a door open and close, I turned to look at the notification screen that had popped up.

Nice! I waved the screen away and opened up my menu. There was a new icon between my [Status] and [Skills] icons, showing three of those creepy msn things… ugh.
I tapped it without delay.

Many more generic names followed with the [5 (Neutral)] level reputation, but I ignored those. They were probably just the other kids at the orphanage. Okay… no helpful words here either? Ugh! It's like I have no hints on or something!
No hints on…
Wait.
Is that something I have to purchase as well!? Dammit!
As soon as I felt me working myself up, a wave of calm immediately seemed to wash over me. Must be [Gamer's Mind] at work. Okay, inhale, exhale.
Let's work this out. I've probably been here my whole life, so I have to had reached the extreme ends of the reputation menu with at least one of them, right? And [[Neutral)] was the mid-point of any reputation scale, so… double that is ten. Ten, or [(Cherished)] is probably the highest level I can get with anyone.
Oh. Wait. [Wordplay] had a 2.5% default chance of working, then a 10% bonus will be added for every positive REP point. Which meant, because I had the maximum possible positive reputation with Aoi, I had a 52.5% chance for her to believe me. I was lucky enough that it worked.
It was literally easier for me to lie to those who loved me. What did that say for the gaming system by itself?
Eh, I shrugged it off. No point working myself up over it.
I waved the screen away just as the door that had previously closed opened and two frantic sets of footsteps made their way up the stairs. Straining by this point, I was able to hear a door opening, and the hallways were instantly assaulted by loud infantile wailing. The door then shut quietly.

It took nine things to level up this time. Combined with the fact that I had scanned Aoi before, a total of ten uses. That mean 10% experience per object only on the second level. That's a sharp drop from 25% per object on the previous level. Woah.
Okay, so it was obvious from the beginning to me that as I progressed skills, it would be harder to level them up as time passed. But to see the effects in front of my eyes like that…
Deep breaths, Legion. Deep breaths. This just means I have to grind more.
Given that I am only five years old, I think I have a while. And if I can create those time-dilating Instant … Dimensions (?) from the gamer manhwa here, I'll have all the time in the world.
But first, I need to purchase [Gamer's Body] before anything else. For that, I need to level up. I can worry about other perks after that. To level up, though, I will need to either create and level up the Instant Dimension skill, or find real-world dungeons, which I don't think exist here. I mean, in a ninja village, with regular patrols, I don't think such a thing could be possibly overlooked.
That brings me back to the skill.
Okay, I guess I can work on that too. I don't know if it will consume CP or not, but it's best to wait and do it after I can be sure I'll be alone for the day. After all, I don't wanna give the matron a heart attack by vanishing and appearing at random.
Fucking NPC AI, man.
I sighed and decided to explore a bit while I thought. After all, it seemed like the ground floor of the orphanage was a bit better furnished than the first. Was there a second floor?
I walked around the ground floor, thinking hard. After I get the [Gamer's Body], a lot of issues of mine can get solved. The eating and sleeping mechanics will cease to matter, I'll have a way of healing myself and stuff, and I won't have to worry about status effects – the negative ones at least. This will allow me to grind skills that consume CP even more than I can now. Then, I can finally experiment more with my CP because I'll have a backup plan incase things go wrong.
I entered the what looked like the main hall. There was a really battered-looking television on a rickety stool on one side, and a collection of cushions piled up on the other. The space in between was just empty hardwood floor, probably as an area for children to play in.
But something in the dead center of the room made me freeze.
It reminded me of animus fragments from Revelations – white, translucent, constantly shifting, tiny thing. Except instead of the diamond, it had the Konoha symbol in its center.
I quickly scanned it.

Everything else had question marks instead of alphabets.
First off, a little celebration for finally getting [Gamer's Body]! Now I can really get things underway! Resting constantly after I burned up my chakra last night was totally annoying, to say nothing of having to sleep when I know I shouldn't have to! This is really going to fast-track my progress!
Now, thinking.
[HUD] was definitely an important part of gaming. This was probably the reason why I can see people's names and levels when I look at them and go knows what else I'm missing out on. But on the other hand, advancing skills were really easy, and [Perks Galore], in spire of the what-seems-like high cost, will be really important in the long run; I can just feel it!
Now that I can use my CP without fear, though, I think I should create and train my Instant Dimension skill. The sooner I collect 50PP and level as few skills as possible, the more perk points I will have later on.
I can do that after a while, though. I think I hear them coming down the stairs, with an excitedly gurgling baby.
After a few minutes of hectic running around, though, I found myself impatient as the sun finally rose and I was wasting daylight. Dear god, chibi Naruto was adorable, but I did have a lot of other things to be doing right now.
Ever wondered how something could be super adorable but also super annoying at the same time?
I do. Right now, in fact.
Unsurprisingly, now that he was given a chance, Naruto instantly had everyone who so much as laid eyes on him wound tight around his little finger. Curious, I scanned him.

And he had as much [CON] as me. Dammit. Anyway, it's not like I'm going to fight anyone head on, so it shouldn't make a difference. That abnormally high luck stat, though? That had me jealous as fuck; and don't even get me talking about his HP and CP… I think that's the effect of a perk or title. After all, he's an Uzumaki, as well as the reincarnate of Ashura, right?
After pouting a bit about the unfairness that was life (or death, in this case), I decided to get started on earning enough PP for the [Perks Galore] perk. Usually, levelling up or scant mission rewards would be all I could get perk points from, right?
Wrong. I had a way of getting perk points that was not counted amongst those.
It was time to hunt for landmarks.
The Map icon on my game menu worked a lot like what I remembered of the Assassin's Creed 3 map system, except the actual map showed physical reliefs rather than just drawings of it. For now, only the orphanage building fully existed on it, the rest was fogged over by white clouds. Apparently, [Location Collectibles] unfogged not only the location I was in, but also a fair distance around it, so at least I was not totally going blind.
My first stop, since I was already in the non-shinobi area of the village, were the various shops I had heard of. Being outside the orphanage proper for the first time really allowed me to get a feel for the place and realize exactly why Naruto loved the village so much when he grew up in spite of the ill-treatment he suffered. The people bustling about through their day, the children running and generally being excitable nuisances, the watchful silent ninja who sometimes broke their poses to help people having a bad spot or children find something they lost…
It was totally unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. Hell, anyone from when I was alive would fucking love to be here. It was like the place radiated warmth and acceptance. No wonder even though the people may have turned Naruto aside he persevered… just being in the village gave one hope. I wouldn't find it odd if he said that the village itself accepted him even if its people hadn't.
I shook my head out of the reverie I found myself in and resumed my search. I had a lot of places to find, hopefully today, so I could fast-track my way to hackdom!
The first location I came across, funnily enough, was Yakiniku Q. Thankfully I already purchased the [Gamer's Mind] and [Gamer's Body] perks, or else I would be drooling, and my stomach would be rumbling at the aroma around that place. Luckily, I didn't have to test my skill by going inside, the collectible was right out.

Oh. OH!
My orphanage was a totally separate body from… anything. Essentially, it was a civilian building, which meant that I couldn't really learn anything ninja specific from it, hence the experience was offered instead!
Oh wow. Okay, so every ninja-affiliated building ought to give me a lot more than just perk points, stat points, or exp! I need to focus on civilian-oriented buildings or else I chance missing out on super cool options when I level up later on since the options scale with my level! Dammit.
This one though, was easy enough. I wasn't planning on being a front-line fighter, so I could give up the [Akimichi Hijutsu Scroll] without fuss. And I could easily earn the stat points once I unlock the capability to do so manually. What I really needed now, was those Perk Points so I can earn more.

Great. So, from the ten I had earlier, I spent one to get the gamer fundamental, leaving nine more to spend. With these ten added, I now have nineteen perk points sitting in my system. For fifty points, I needed thirty-one more, which meant four more locations.
But, as I just saw, ninja locations have those nifty skill scrolls tacked on! Which locations can I use the collectibles from without fear of losing valuable skills?
As my mind worked, I found myself walking forward.

I suppressed a gleeful smirk and smiled politely instead, mentally accepting. "Sure thing, oji-san! Where do you want them?"
The task actually took a little under five minutes to complete. While my [STR] wasn't that high, my [AGL] was, so it was easy to balance the cartons three at a time and I brought them to his storage behind the shop pretty easily. Besides, they were boxes filled with packets of ramen noodles. Like hell it would be difficult. I even helped him out with some utensils that looked newly purchased.
"You're pretty good wity those hands." The man complemented, patting my head. "What's your name, boy?"
"I'm Gundan." I introduced myself, bowing. "Nice to meet you, Ichiraku oji-san."
"Such a polite young man." The man smiled, then pulled out his wallet from nowhere. "Well, for helping me, how about I give you ten ryo, hm?"
I shook my head. "That's alright. It was a small task, and it was pretty easy. I can't accept the money." Well, that was true. And also, once I created and levelled my Instant Dimension skill, there would be practically no need for me to work a day in my life. Instead of accepting his money…
"Oh. Well… that's nice of you. Why don't you come back around afternoon and grab a bowl of ramen, on the house? I have a daughter around your age who would like to have someone her age to talk to." He smiled. "Since we just moved in from Nami no Kuni, it would also be nice for her to make friends over here."
Oh. Ayame was around five years older than Naruto? "But I can't accept that either! You just moved here, so it means you don't have a lot of customers yet. You'd be technically giving away money, anyway!" I 'pouted', crossing my arms. "Instead, I'll just take a 'thank you'."
Teuchi seemed to be speechless, so, instead of wasting more time, I just spun on my heel and began to make my way away. "Goodbye anyway, Ichiraku oji-san! Good luck for your first day!"
