Chapter 24: Phantom Planet – Part 4
Danny and Dani tried to touch the asteroid but couldn't do so without feeling a lot of pain. "What happened?" Dani asked in confusion.
"Oh, no!" Danny exclaimed upon figuring out what happened. "This asteroid must be made of Ectoranium! No ghost can touch it!"
Dejected, the two half-ghosts returned to the ship. "What happened?" Jerry asked and Danny explained the bad news.
"You and your clone did what you could, Danny." Alex tried to comfort him. Danny was too depressed to correct Alex about calling Dani his 'clone' instead of his 'cousin'.
"Look!" Cover exclaimed. "Someone else is approaching the asteroid!"
"That's Cat Noir with a space suit." Jerry stated. "He must be trying to use his Cataclysm to destroy the asteroid."
"I hope he's got better luck than us." Danny commented.
Unfortunately, the asteroid remained unharmed and Cat Noir was blasted away. "Hurry!" Jerry shouted at Danny and Dani. "Bring him here before he detransforms!"
"What's with him?" Dani asked Danny as the two of them obeyed Jerry's order.
"It's heavily believed that, whenever Ladybug or Cat Noir activated their signature powers, they only have a few minutes before they return to their civilian selves, Dani." Danny answered. "Jerry's just worried."
Fortunately, they phased Cat Noir inside the ship on time and nothing too horrible happened when the hero detransformed.
"It's Adrien Agreste!" Clover, Alex and Samantha exclaimed and smiled.
"You guys know him?" Dani asked.
"We know of him!" Alex answered.
"He's a teen model and the son of Paris' fashion mogul Gabriel Agreste!" Samantha added.
Clover eagerly approached Adrien with a picture of her and a resume. "Hello, Adrien! I'm Clover! If your Daddy dearest is looking for a new model or a successor, show him these!"
'I can't believe this girl is a hero.' Danny thought. 'She's like a blonde Paulina.'
"Uh, would you please keep my identity a secret?" Adrien asked.
"Just keep the girls' identities a secret as well." Jerry replied.
"Except for the part of getting me a modeling gig with your Dad." Clover added.
"Please ignore her, Adrien." Jerry asked.
"And who are you?" Danny asked the tiny creature that seemed to came out of Adrien when he detransformed.
"I'm the kwami of destruction and the source of Cat Noir's power." Plagg answered. "Do you have any camembert?"
Later on, Danny and Dani were back on Earth. "I'm sorry it failed, son." Jack commented.
Barbara was also at Fentonworks by then. "Danny, I know you can't turn the asteroid intangible but, what about turning Earth intangible?" She asked.
"It could work but it'd take the combined power of several ghosts and special equipment." Danny answered.
"Danny, your father and I can build the equipment but why would evil ghosts help?" Maddie asked.
"Not all ghosts are evil and those who are still would help because, if Earth is destroyed, the Ghost Zone will suffer the same fate, Mom." Danny explained and then looked around. "Where's Tucker?"
"In therapy." Sam grumbled.
"Therapy?" Danny asked in confusion.
"Jazzy is comforting him over the fact you dated a robot and he didn't." Jack said. "At least she's more human than those child-hitting creeps."
"A robot, really?" Barbara teasingly asked.
"Easier to believe than a nice cheerleader." Sam commented.
Eventually, everything was ready on time. Because kwamis were similar enough to ghosts to be vulnerable to Ectoranium, all of them returned to their dimension. Gabriel Agreste briefly renounced his own to protect them. Meanwhile, Danny was supervising some of the towers. "Thank you both for coming, Deadman and Gentleman Ghost." He said.
"It's a pleasure to help, Mr. Phantom." Craddock replied.
"Hey!" Another nearby ghost protested. "I'm the real Phantom here!"
"Not now, Daddy." The other Phantom's daughter said.
"Alright, Phantasma." The other Phantom replied.
Fortunately, everything was ready on time to save the world from the asteroid. The next day, Danny was receiving an homage in Amity Park. To his pleasure, and Paulina's dismay, Barbara Gordon was with him. "That's not fair!" The shallow cheerleader said. "What does she have that I don't?"
"Do you really wanna know, Paulina?" Sam teasingly asked.
"Aren't you also upset about not being the ghost boy's girlfriend, Manson?" Paulina asked. "You already liked him even when he was just a loser."
"For as long as he's happy and with someone who likes more than just the ghostly side of him, I'm okay." Sam replied.
"Can't you at least talk him into getting Dash and Dale an early release?" Paulina asked. "Sure, they tried to interfere with one of his dates but they thought he was just pretending to be the ghost boy."
"They're bullies who had it coming." Sam said, glad the two jocks were behind bars.
Two days passed.
Once the Justice League returned and learned what happened, they called Danny for a meeting at the Batcave. "Let me go with you, Danny!" Tucker eagerly asked. "Please please please!"
"Batman was quite clear about that, Tucker." Batgirl said. "He's not ready to trust Danny's friends. Especially someone who'd likely take pictures of the Batcave and post them on the Internet."
"It'd be a dream come true." Tucker moaned.
"You do know that every criminal in Gotham who wouldn't dismiss the pictures as fakes would abduct you to get the Batcave's location and Batman's secret identity, right?" Batgirl asked.
"Okay." A deflated Tucker replied.
Danny then took a ride aboard the Batjet as Batgirl drove them away. Tucker found comfort in taking a picture of the departing jet. "The online geek community will be so envious." The techno geek commented.
Minutes later, at the Batcave, Danny and Batgirl not only saw Batman and the second Robin but also Superman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, the Flash, the first Robin and Starfire. "Congratulations, friend Danny!" Starfire said as she hugged Danny, whose powers allowed him to survive without long-lasting bruises. "It's regrettable I was helping my home planet Tamaran to end a big crisis or I would have stopped the asteroid."
"My cousin Kal and I already decided that, whenever one of us leaves Earth, the other will stay." Supergirl added.
Superman then approached Danny. "Danny Fenton, when the League first considered making you a member, our main objection to full membership was the fact you're a minor whose parents didn't know your secret identity." The Man of Steel formally stated.
"I know, Sir." Danny solemnly replied.
"Our main concern now is the fact you no longer have a secret identity." Batman said. "If you become a full-fledged member, our enemies might go after your family and friends to get us."
Danny was saddened by the idea of being rejected by the Justice League but didn't know what to say since he understood their point and was secretly glad they didn't think he was a bad guy.
"However, since the damage is already done and he's been seen with some heroes, Leaguers or not, you'll be called on occasion." Wonder Woman said. "You simply won't be given full access to League facilities until we can be sure you having a public life won't cause any problems."
"Thank you, Wonder Woman." Danny humbly replied.
"Don't be so modest." The Flash said. "You recruited a bunch of ghosts to save the world. There must be several girls wanting to date you."
"True but I already have a girlfriend." Danny replied. "What about Sinestro and his Yellow Lantern Corps?"
"They won't be a problem anymore." Batman stated.
"Did you…" Danny was afraid of asking.
"Sinestro and his followers were captured alive." Superman reassured the ghost hero. "If the Green Lantern Corps had no problem with killing enemies, Sinestro would still be a member."
"To make sure people won't connect the dots regarding Batgirl, you'll do some occasional heroics alongside other teen heroines." Batman stated. "Fortunately, we have two volunteers right here."
"I still don't know what Starfire sees on him." The first Robin mumbled.
"Don't worry, friend Batgirl." Starfire reassured Batgirl. "I understand and respect the code of girls."
"Ooookay." Batgirl uneasily replied, not as used to Starfire's broken English as Dick Grayson was.
