Chapter 33: Space Program
Danny Fenton had a lifelong dream of becoming an astronaut and now, thanks to a program sponsored (at least partially) by the Wayne Foundation, he had a shot. Upon arriving at the Middleton Space Center, he was led to Dr. James Timothy Possible. "Welcome aboard, Junior Space Cadet Fenton." Dr. James Possible said.
"Thank you, Dr. Possible." Danny replied.
As Danny was shown around, they chanced into a person the both of them knew. "Kim?" Danny asked.
"Do you know my daughter?" Dr. James Possible asked in surprise.
"Danny's the first boy I ever met through the dating service, Dad." Kim awkwardly replied.
Looking at how both young adults seemed awkward, Kim's Dad believed her. "So she actually met a good boy at that dating service she entered behind my back?" He said while looking at Danny. "Are you free just in case things between Kimmie and Ronald don't work?"
Kim lowered her head in shame.
"No, Sir." Danny answered. "I'm dating one of the other girls I met through the dating service.
"Phew." They heard Ron say. "Not that I was worried or anything. Is she someone I know?"
"Yes." Danny answered. "Barbara Gordon."
"The Bueno Nacho hater?" Ron asked with a frown. "Well, you could've done worse. That girl from Cleveland who hits her own kid sister, for example."
"Cree Lincoln." Danny replied, also frowning.
"Oh, you also had the displeasure of meeting her?" Ron asked and Danny nodded.
"Boys, we have a program to attend." Kim's Dad said, wanting to stop the arguing.
"Yes, Mr. Dr. P." Ron replied.
"Mr. Dr.?" Danny asked in confusion.
"My Mom's also a Doctor so Ron feels the need to be specific, Danny." Kim explained.
"Fair enough." Danny commented.
Danny, Kim, Ron and Mr. Dr. Possible entered a room with other aspiring astronauts. "Oh, no." One of the aspiring astronauts said. "It's already bad enough there's a superhero astronaut for a publicity stunt but now we have to compete with Kim Possible?"
"Don't worry." Kim reassured them. "While I can do anything, I'm just here to help my Dad to evaluate you."
"And our program doesn't need Mr. Wayne's money to the point of allowing his protégé to skip the tests." Mr. Dr. Possible added.
Kim's Kimmunicator beeped and Kim answered it. "Wade, what's the sitch?"
"Kim, Dr. Drakken broke Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn out of Arkham." Wade answered.
"He must be seeking Ivy to teach him how to control his plant powers." Kim deduced. "Where's he now?"
"I'll call you as soon as I locate him." Wade said.
"Please and thank you." Kim replied and they ended the call.
"I don't recall Drakken having powers or even being a fighter when he and his green-skinned henchwoman interrupted our date." Danny commented.
"The lab accident that gave him his powers still didn't happen back then." Ron explained and Danny, having also received powers from a lab accident, didn't question it.
"What about his blue skin?" Danny asked.
"Your guess is as good as mine, Danny." Kim answered. "He already had it when we first met."
"And still didn't have it when he dropped college as Drew Lipsky." Mr. Dr. Possible added.
Danny didn't want to know how the Possibles knew that detail. The tests then begun. Danny went well enough to satisfy those who initially thought he was just there for a publicity stunt. As they informed the results to a press conference, Bruce Wayne joined them. "It's with great pleasure I'm here to announce the newest astronauts of Middleton Space Center." Bruce Wayne announced.
"Did Danny Fenton pass?" A blonde girl asked.
"Kara, I ask the questions, you take pictures." Clark Kent reminded his cousin.
"Yes, young Mr. Fenton is one of the applicants who passed." Bruce answered. "Next question?"
A reporter from Beverly Hills (or at least someone Danny and Bruce assumed to be from Beverly Hills since they recognized the photographer next to him as W.O.O.H.P. spy Samantha) asked if the program would go on with or without Danny and James Possible was quick to respond. "Yes, it would even without Danny Fenton."
Looking around, Danny saw two other familiar faces. 'Violet and Kitty?' He thought. 'Kara I can understand with her being a journalist's cousin but two of the other girls I met through the dating service?'
The press conference was interrupted by plants suddenly growing from the floor. Soon Dr. Drakken, Poison Ivy, and Shego revealed themselves. "What do you want, Drakken?" Kim asked.
"Kim Possible, Poison Ivy is teaching me how to control my plant-based powers and I'm using them to destroy you so you'll no longer prevent me from taking over the world." Drakken said. "Hahahahahahahaha!"
"Drakken, I don't know if you'll ever stop her but, either way, you'll have to deal with me." Danny declared and flew towards Drakken but Shego attacked the half-ghost, distracting him long enough for Drakken to cover his body with green spores that electrocuted him.
"These spores are laced with Ecto-ranium, ghost man." Drakken bragged. "Shego, finish him."
"With pleasure, Dr. Drakken." Shego readied herself for the finishing blow but was quickly stopped by Kim Possible. "As soon as I finish a more annoying foe."
"Aren't you glad you're not there, Princess?" Commissioner Gordon was asking his daughter as they were watching the news on TV.
Back in Middleton, Drakken and Poison Ivy were soon approached by Superman and Supergirl. "Surrender." Superman demanded.
"No." Drakken replied as the Heroes of Steel were given another kind of green dust. "I knew Danny Phantom became pals with Supergirl so I've brought some Kryptonite just in case."
"Very clever but you don't know anything you can use against me!" A new voice said and everyone saw a girl with a black domino mask and a mostly red uniform with the letter "I" on its chest.
"Mr. Incredible's daughter?" Drakken asked in shock.
"I have my own superhero name." The girl protested.
"Whatever, Incredigirl." Poison Ivy replied.
"Invisigirl!" Invisigirl protested and raised her barrier to protect herself.
'I wish I had thought about that.' Danny thought in the middle of his pain.
Drakken and Ivy tried to launch vines at Invisigirl, who moved towards the two plant-powered villains. "Why didn't I let Dash come with me?" Invisigirl asked. "Other than the fact he'd probably jump in front of the camera, of course."
Meanwhile, a mutant superheroine approached Danny and made him intangible so the Ecto-ranium would phase out of him. "Kitty?"
"Call me "Shadowcat" while I'm dressed like that, Danny." Shadowcat replied. "Now let's phase Kryptonite out of Superman and Supergirl."
While Danny approached Superman, Shadowcat approached Supergirl and the both of them phased the Kryptonite out of the Heroes of Steel. Danny then flew the two of them away from the radiation area. Afterwards, Danny shot light beams at Drakken's and Ivy's backs, allowing Invisigirl to knock them down.
Danny then directed his attention to Kim Possible, who managed to hold her own against Shego. "I knew it was too crazy to work." Shego commented, not wanting to face so many superheroes together. "I'll just leave."
"No, you won't." Before Shego could figure out who said that, Batman knocked her down.
"Drakken's henchmen are all tied up outside alongside the formula Poison Ivy planned to spread through the world with a rocket from this place." The Dark Knight said and left.
"Thank you all for protecting the Middleton Space Center." Dr. James Possible said.
"No big." Kim replied as she usually did whenever someone showed appreciation for her heroics.
"Unfortunately, the program is indefinitely postponed due the damages to this facility and potential contamination." Dr. James Possible somberly commented and then received a call. "Good news! The decontamination center remained intact! Everyone please go there just in case there's some Kryptonite, Ecto-ranium and/or any spores left."
"Isn't Krptonite only harmful to Kryptonians, Mr. Dr. P.?" Ron asked Kim's Dad.
"You're thinking of immediate effects, Ronald." Kim's Dad answered.
After the decontamination, some of the girls sat together. "Are you all okay?" Kim Possible asked the others. Since she was wearing the Middleton Space Center's symbol and her father was a scientist there, they didn't find it odd that she asked.
"We're fine." They answered.
"Seeing Danny again made it worth it." Violet commented, surprising the other girls. "What? Did you also meet him through you+me=love?" She asked, surprised that she wasn't the only one there.
"Yes." All but one girl said. "I didn't but a friend of mine did. So which one of you did he choose over her?"
"None of us." Kara answered, shocking the others.
"How would you know?" Kitty asked. "We never met before."
"He chose a friend of mine from Gotham City." Kara explained. "Barbara Gordon. My name is Kara Kent, by the way."
The other girls then decided to introduce themselves.
"Kim Possible."
"Samantha Simpson." The girl who wasn't one of Danny's past dates said.
"Kitty Pryde."
"Violet Parr."
Having witnessed that meeting, Danny wisely phased himself away.
That night, at Fentonworks, Danny told his family about the awkwardness. "Chancing upon three of your past dates in the same day?" Jack asked with pride. "I knew no girl can resist the Fenton charm but you took it to a new level!"
"You'll not tell Barbara about that." Maddie said in worry. "Will you?"
"Well, I might have no choice since one of those girls is her friend." Danny argued. "And besides, I also met one of her past dates."
"Fair enough." Maddie commented.
