Chapter 37: Wedding Crashers

"I can't believe it." Commissioner Gordon commented. "All those safety measures to avoid paparazzi and my daughter invites two reporters to attend her wedding."

"Kara's my friend and Jimmy Olsen's her plus one, Daddy." Barbara replied.

"How did you two even get to know each other in the first place?" The Commissioner asked.

"She came to Gotham for news regarding Livewire, Dad." Barbara explained.

"Whatever." The Commissioner muttered and then left to greet other guests. "Bruce, I'm glad you came." He said and then looked at the woman next to Bruce and glared. "With her."

"Bruce and I are a purr-fect match, Commish." Bruce's companion purred, wanting to get under Commissioner Gordon's skin before he got under hers.

"How's little Helena?" The Commissioner asked. 'I hoped having a baby would keep her from coming.'

"She's fine, thank you." Selina Wayne answered.

"Are you sure it's safe to leave her at home with the both of you here, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne?" Commissioner Gordon asked.

"Alfred's taking care of her, Commissioner." Bruce told him.

"That's another point that intrigues me." The Commissioner replied. "Only one servant for such a huge place? It seems like you're hiding something."

"Dad, don't bother our guests like that." Barbara asked the Commissioner.

"Am I late?" Danny asked as he phased himself into the church and changed into Danny Fenton.

"Only half late." The Commissioner stated.

"Haha." Danny laughed at the joke. "Good one, Sir."

"Congratulations, Danny." Bruce said and then Danny noticed the Waynes.

"Thank you and good to see you again, Mr. Wayne." Danny replied and then looked at Selina. "And nice to meet you, Mrs. Wayne."

"The pleasure is mine." Selina replied. "Even if I'm not the first cat-themed burglar you ever met."

Not wanting to discuss Felicia Hardy (Yes, he knows), he excused himself to get ready for the marriage.

"Do you, Daniel James Fenton, take Barbara Gordon as your lawfully wedded wife, in health and sickness, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, from now on until death does you part?"

"I do." Danny answered.

"And do you, Barbara Gordon, take Daniel James Fenton as your lawfully wedded husband, in health and sickness, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, from now on until death does you part?"

"I do." Barbara answered.

"If anybody here objects to this union, say it now or forever hold your peace."

Danny and Barbara were about to look at the latter's father out of worry but something else distracted them: an explosion. A guy that Bruce Wayne identified as "Krank" came in on some sort of floating disk. "I object to Bruce Wayne being alive to watch this ceremony after how he ruined my life."

"You've brought it upon yourself by selling all those dangerous stuff to kids, Krank." Bruce replied, reminding Danny that he's the one underneath Batman's cowl.

"Speaking of toys, I hope you remember them." Krank said as life-sized versions of some toys entered the church.

"Great." Kara sarcastically commented. "Gotham's Toyman is as crazy as Metropolis'." The Girl of Steel was trying to figure a way to leave without being noticed when she saw Danny going ghost.

"Dude, why don't you just make safer toys?" Danny asked.

"Phantom, why don't you mind your own…" Krank was interrupted by Jack Fenton tackling him.

"No ghost attacks the son or a guest of Jack Fenton during said son's wedding." Jack Fenton declared.

"Uh, Jack?" His wife called him. "He's not a ghost."

"Alright but, ghost or not, he shouldn't attack our son." Jack replied.

'Now I'm glad I didn't leave.' Kara thought.

With Krank arrested, the wedding continued. "Does anyone else here object to this union?" Nobody said anything. "In that case, by the power vested on me, I hereby pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Danny bent down so his lips could reach Barbara's. meanwhile, Bruce Wayne approached the priest and wrote him a check. "Consider it a donation." Bruce said. "I hope it pays for the damages."

"It sure does, brother." The priest happily replied upon reading the check.

Afterwards, they went to a ballroom for a party to celebrate. "Are you sure there's enough fudge for the night, Danny?" Barbara asked upon seeing her father-in-law eating.

"I'm not even sure there's enough for the next 10 minutes." Danny answered.

"Make it five." Commissioner Gordon said as he pointed to Detective Bullock. "Let's agree to no longer order fudge-filled donuts for events where both Jack Fenton and Harvey Bullock are invited to?"

"Yes, Sir." Danny replied.

"Yes, Dad." Barbara said.

"Danny, Barbara." Kara said as she and Jimmy approached them. "Congratulations."

"Thank you." Danny and Barbara replied.

"Danny, Barbara, I'd like to introduce you to my future husband Jimmy Olsen." Kara said. "Jimmy, these are my best friend Barbara and her husband Danny Fenton."

"Nice to meet you." Danny said and Barbara nodded.

"Nice to meet you both." Jimmy replied.

"Where's your sister?" Kara asked Danny.

"She's right over there dancing with her husband Antonio." Danny answered.

"I'm happy for them." Kara commented. She and her husband then joined the other dancing couples.

"Sorry, Danny." Barbara said.

"About what?" Danny asked in confusion.

"About being unable to dance." Barbara answered.

"It's the Joker's fault, not yours, Barbara." Danny replied and tried to ease the tension. "Would you like some refreshments?"

"And a donut, please." Barbara said.

"I see there's something left of your desire to become a cop." Danny said and Barbara giggled. "Don't hope there's any left by the time I reach the table."

"With Bullock there, that's wishful thinking." Barbara replied. Danny didn't see it as a joke.

End chapter.
