It's like when you watch liquid from the rain trickle down the windows, when you live in the sleazy part of the neighbourhood and there's lights constantly on outside your curtain less windows, advertising whatever wonders are on stage tonight, or how cheap their petrol and alcohol is.

She used to watch the droplets of water as a child, transfixed as they chased each other down the grimy pane, playing games with herself as she bet one against the other would disappear out of view the fastest, but more often than not they simply merged with another instead.

The rain looked green when she was young, reflecting off the gaudy lights and the bushes right outside her window which always stank of dead rat and vomit… yet she always found it beautiful, and no matter what time of the day or night she would always be at that window, gazing at the trickling rain unblinking.

Now she's a lot older, and there's more purpose of her habit of gazing at the flowing lines of green, probably because they're now on a computer screen. They're always watching and hunting, waiting for whichever miracle it is this time Morpheus has his heart set on, and for some reason she's one of the few who doesn't complain about the long shifts they're set. It's part of the job after all, and the green code is hypnotic and comforting. There's not much to do other than sleep, and with the heater on the fritz lately that's not easy.

She always feels the warmest while she's sitting in the huge computer chair, her hands wrapped around a cup of Dozers special drink mix, gazing at the latest hopeful. He has the same dazed look she remembers once having.

His green code was always the nicest.

This is a challenge for FictionNET ( http / sycotic . org / fnet ) If you're looking for a nifty (mostly based on Harry Potter) writing forum, join Fnet and say that Keladryie sent you. It's seriously worth it.

The challenge here was for Septych, which is where I must create a piece for a set of seven somethings. This round was Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. Here, as you can see, this piece is all about Green. :) The next piece, Blue, shall be about the 10 Things I Hate About You. I hope you enjoy :)
