The city was quiet this time of day; when the sun had just begun to set all the city's residents were home for dinner. The city was especially beautiful this time of year. The trees began to change from the green to leaves of red and amber. Daniel stood on the balcony of his apartment; arms leaned over the railing, hands clasped together as he just gazed into the horizon. The wind blew through his brown hair, reminding him of the way his mother would run her hands through it to soothe him when he was sick. It relaxed him in a way nothing else could.
Memories invaded his reprieve from life. This time, however, was different. This time, it wasn't the horrific tragedy of his parents demise that he witnessed as a child. It wasn't the overwhelming loss of his beloved wife. Daniel did not dwell on pains and failures this evening.
Teal'c had finally been released from the infirmary after fighting for not only his life, but his soul. In celebration, they gathered at Daniel's apartment for a much needed team night. So, on this particular evening, as the sun set, Daniel reminisced on everything that went right in his life. He remembered the proud smile on his father's face as he uncovered his first artifact in Egypt. He recalled the feeling of the Abydos sand beneath him as he and Sha're lay there, tangled in each other's arms. He remembered the joy in Jack's expression, and the joy he himself felt, upon seeing each other after Apophis' ships blow up. He recalled the excitement after scoring the winning goal at the SGC barbeque hockey game where SG1 won against SG3.
All the good moments in his life came to surface as the sun disappeared behind the cityscape. With a smile of his face, Daniel sighed contently as the wind blew over him once more. A hand on his left shoulder didn't startle Daniel. It was only a matter of time before Jack came out to check on him. Daniel turned his head towards his friend as Jack adopted the same stance as Daniel had. Jack looked back, and Daniel smiled genuinely. Jack patted Daniel on the back and nodded. All was alright for the time being. That's all they could ask for in their life. For now, life was good. With the lives they led, 'for now' was all that mattered.
