When any word or phrase is in Bold, it is formatted in such a way in order to portray the use or affect of one of the many Perks or Skills. I understand that a few other Stories like to make the Wanderer and Courier Six into the same person. This certainly creates a more interesting setting. But that is not what I plan on writing about.
However, I might end up giving Six some of the Wanderer's Perks and/or Skills at some point in later Chapters. And in saying that, we will also eventually get a couple short visits from the Wanderer. Six views the Wanderer as a grand legend and she really looks up to the man that a great portion of us wish we could live up to. Maybe then my parents would stop acting so dissapointed in me.
I'm asking all of you to please leave me a Review so I know what you think of the Story thus far. If it's convenient you should Follow the Story in the event you wish to receive an alert whenever I post any new Chapters.
Hell, you could even Follow me if you're reading any of my other Stories. And if you really enjoyed everything that you've read so far, you should absolutely consider putting my Story on your Favorites list.
Chapter 2: A Needed Encounter:
The Courier's skull started to pulsate with a form of pain that was somewhat rare for anyone in the Companions to go through. It was the excruciating and aggravating pain when taking a very long plummet on to the ground. Even worse is when you also manage to cripple a few of your limbs on the way to the ground. Which is exactly what the Courier went though. If only she could've managed to teleport on to the ground on the first attempt.
Like with every other incarnation, this was the kind of pain she would always try to avoid throughout the long escapades she went throughout the Mojave wasteland. However, this was place din a category that received a lot more attention. But no amount of attention could ever ready someone for spawning in the sky.
You're likely to crack more than a few limbs after a fall such as that. Unfortunately Doctor's Bags aren't exactly the cheapest of medical supplies. But of course she didn't really have a choice since almost all of her limbs were now in a very crippled state. Brainless, Reinforced Spine Both her head and torso did not suffer from the fall. In fact they were perfectly fine.
Opening the inventory section of her Pip-Boy, Six used one of her thirteen Doctor's Bags. This time the only pain that she felt was a large amount of emotional pain. Seeing such a rare and one of a kind item disappear like that from existence can cause irreversible emotional damage to such a sensitive soul. At least it was going towards a good cause. Using the support of one of the many nearby trees, the Courier was able to bring herself off of the-
''Hey, wait just a minute.'' The Courier said aloud to herself while also rudely interrupting the narration. ''Are those trees?'' Though she had seen a couple of them just a few times before, Six knew for a fact that they were even more secluded to specific areas than Cazadore were. They could only be found around Jacobstown as well as a few small parts of Red Rock Canyon.
But this clearly wasn't Jacobstown nor was it Red Rock Canyon. Sure, those places had a couple of trees scattered throughout the area. But this was a whole damn forest of pure green trees. In fact there were so many of the trees that it would probably mange to make the members of the Oasis a little jealous. Not that the Courier would happen to know anything about them. At least for now anyway.
The sight of the beautiful and green forest was more than enough to put the Courier in true awe. Which was a very hard task for someone or something to do. The last time it happened was the exact moment she entered the Strip for the first time. The way Six viewed it, this was as far from the Strip as anyone could possibly be.
She was hoping to land in the middle of another exciting region filled with all sorts of Old World treasures to get her little hands on. Perhaps there would even be a few more mysteries in need of solving. She could definitely take full advantage of her current location.
Before she could continue her line of thought or consider her next move another rare event occurred. The Courier's Pip-Boy flashed a 'Broken Weapon' notification on the screen. She was more than a little confused at first. She was almost always careful with each and every item in her inventory. Even when they weren't broken she was always sure to give them regular repairs. It took a few more seconds but she soon realized what her wrist mounted device was telling her.
The Big Mountain Transportalponder was broken. You'd think that she would've been a little more worried by her sudden lack of methods to return to the Mojave. But this was nothing she hasn't already gone though before. Zion, Big Mountain, the Sierra Madre Casino. None of them were kind enough to offer her a quick and easy way home. Yet she made it through all the same. Six placed the transportation device back in her inventory.
Wherever she was Six knew that she would eventually need to find someone that was able to repair the Transportalponder, or else consequences would arise. Then again, she wasn't even fully sure that the thing could even receive necessary repairs in the first place. It was only ever used as a tool, not as a weapon of war. There was this one odd time in Freeside when Ralph actually tried to purchase it from her for some odd reason.
Six didn't need a second to figure out that the next course of action was to move somewhere a little more inhabited. She checked the map on the Pip-Boy to get a proper sense of the area. Explorer She was relieved but even more excited to see the average quantity of new locations to plunder and explore. As for the Courier's current location, it was labeled as the Emerald Forest. 'Forest' was absolutely the only correct word to use in such a green and alive place.
Even though there were several new locations to explore, most of them would still require a good while of painful walking to reach. But as Courier Six would always tell the rest of the Companions, ''It's all about the journey, not the destination.'' She imagined that someone who was once considered an important figure was the one to turn that into the popular quote that it was in the Old World.
She was about to select one of the destinations with the marker before out of nowhere the Quest updated. While the Quest still did not feature any name or location, it now had an actual objective. The Courier's eyes widened when she noticed what the objective advised.
''Survive the Attack.'' She knew then it was a good time to equip one of the Saturnite Fists. With all the trees around the area, up close and personal fighting was be the only way to go about combat. If she utilized VATS, Six could probably shoot most of them in to pieces in order to get an actual somewhat decent view of the rest of the area. But it would just act as a waste of precious ammo, not that she would run out anytime soon.
The sound of rustling emitting from the surrounding area put Six slightly on edge and alert. She hadn't actually fought with anything in a long time. At least nothing very serious. What little remained of the Legion? They were all gone. Powder Gangers? Dead, or if they were lucky, imprisoned. And saddest of all, there were almost no more Deathclaws left to fight. But she knew that whatever was lurking around the area, she had gone through worse.
Six quickly spun around, expecting just another medium level challenge. But what she got instead was a strike to the face that was so unbelievably powerful, it completely ruined the Ranger Combat Helmet and once again, if she had an actual brain inside of it, her head would've suffered for the second time. The strike also managed to throw Six off of the ground completely and into the air.
The pain was almost unfamiliar to Six. Well... that and painful, of course. Even the Deathclaws at the Quarry didn't pack that much of a punch. This was something new. After removing the Ranger Helmet and injecting a Stimpack straight into the skull. Six got an up close look at this new and fierce competition.
The term 'strange' couldn't even describe what the newly encountered creature looked like. Whatever it was, it was completely pitch black. It had a skull like mask as well as spikes protruding out of its arms, stern, and legs. It wasn't clear to Six if she was facing some kind of new Deathclaw or not. The only thing that was clear was that it needed to die. No one ruins the Courier's precious equipment and gets away with it unscathed!
She charged up a punch and then slammed the Saturnite Fist right into the creature's face. Though she had taken Deathclaw's out with one of the exact same punches many times prior to this encounter, this creature didn't even flinch at the attack. The Courier started to get even more excited as the challenge was increasing.
The creature threw another attack at the Courier. However, this time she was able to narrowly avoid it and even send a counter attack in the form of several punches to one its arms. Still, the fact that the creature showed almost no reaction to the attack allowed Six to infer that it didn't take a single fragment of damage.
Now Six was just getting frustrated with the thing. Any other type of creature like a Super Mutant or Deathclaw would've had the decency to die after such powerful attacks. Even Rawr didn't take such a long time to kill.
Another slash went straight for the Courier, this time it managed to make a nice connection with the Ranger Combat Armour. It managed to slice right through it like it was paper. Its claws connected with Six's chest, and took a fair slice of skin away.
Her armour was now in an awful state. She was also only a quick poke away from meeting God, if she was lucky. Three Super Stimpacks, some Hydra, a couple things of Jet, plenty of Psycho, and a large amount of Med-X was all she needed to make the change in order to win.
Grabbing on to the creature's long arm and, thanks to a tight grasp, not letting go no matter what it tried, the Courier repeatedly slammed the Saturnite fist into its face as hard as she possibly could. She was momentarily disturbed with the amount of satisfaction she felt when the creature cried out in what was most likely a combination of pain in the most agonizing of forms and regret for trying to pick a fight with a legend like the Courier in the first place.
She refused to stop punching the thing until the Saturnite Fist shattered from all of the aggressive use. And when it finally did, the creature collapsed to the ground. It wasn't quite finished off yet. Still, even a light tap and the thing would go on its way to Hell.
Pulling out A Light Shining in Darkness, the Courier emptied an entire clip into the things skull, each round making its own unique noise upon impact. Though she didn't receive any EXP, which was at the fault of the Pip-Boy reaching its maximum level, or another idea along those lines she could't quite grasp, Six was certain that the thing was finished.
Laughing, that was all she could manage when she was the only one left alive. Not once had she ever experienced such an exhilarating encounter prior to coming to a new world. She couldn't care less about the fact that most of the equipment she used was completely trashed and unusable.
Another thing she didn't seem to mind was that she was also suffering from critical injuries that were almost certainly life threatening. All she cared about was that for once in a longest span of time she was actually having some genuine excitement in life.
As if things couldn't get any more exciting, or worse if you're a sensible person that is, which is something that Courier Six is very far from, more rustling was audible from the surrounding area and several other positions. Reloading A Light Shining in Darkness yet again, she laughed and looked towards approaching enemies. ''Please, don't show me any mercy like your friend over there tried to. ''
The enemies quickly complied to the odd and absurd request. The large quantity of creatures shocked Courier Six and even made her consider the idea of retreating. But it didn't take much time for more of them to show up, giving Six no means of escaping. She was going to need to fight and kill, or at the very least stun, every single one of them. ''You know what, I'm not a very picky person. Just a little bit of mercy is okay too.''
Unfortunately, they only listened to the first request. Lunging forward at a speed that was far too quick for Six to counter, one of the creatures managed to slash Six's Ranger Combat Helmet right off of her head. The quick strike also seemed to leave several large marks across her actual face. Thanks to the rapid cellular respiration that came with the Pip-Boy, Courier Six wasn't worried about any permanent scaring. This was still nothing close to comparing to what she faced inside the Mile she created.
Still. With the way the victory was within the hands of the creatures, things could've easily ended for Six right then and there. She understood that a distraction was required in order to escape alive. The arsenal she carried provided thousands of options when it came to creating a diversion.
Pointing at a spot that was surrounded with several of the large trees, Six proceeded shower the area with the wrath of God. Despite the fact she isn't even religious, those are in fact the words she prefers to use when committing such an act. As the energy poured from space, the monsters were momentarily confused. It gave Six plenty of time to start retreating.
As she did, the trees that were struck when the wave of fire collided with them fell to the ground all in unison. A few of them managed to slam into the creatures on their own. But it didn't mean anything. By the time Archimedes ceased spreading chaos, Six was already as far away from the scene as possible. While maintaining a fast pace, she sensed a long chase was right around the corner.
