The first Friday in December, Sadie awoke to a familiar cold, quiet stillness that she knew could only mean one thing. With a gasp, she scrambled out of bed and rushed to the window to gaze in delight at the snow-covered grounds. She bit back a squeal and quickly pulled on her favorite winter clothes and cast a warming charm on them before galloping down the stairs, across the common room, and up the stairs to the boys' dormitory. Bursting through the door, she bounded into the room and launched herself onto Sirius's bed.
"Oof!" He groaned and opened one eye to look at her, frowning deeply. "Merlin, Sadie," he grumbled in irritation. "It's too early to be alive. Go away." In contrast to his words, he pulled her under the blanket with him and hugged her tightly to his body. "On second thought, stay. It's freezing, and you're warm."
Sadie felt a new kind of heat spread through her body, and she found herself relaxing into his embrace with a sigh as he immediately fell back asleep. Her cheek and hand were pressed against the soft skin of his bare chest, and she absentmindedly began to run her fingers softly along the contours of his muscles; the last couple years of playing beater had been very kind to him. Tilting her head up slightly, she let her eyes wander over his face. Even in sleep, his dark hair framed his features with a sort of effortless grace. His jawline and cheekbones were sharp and defined and offered a nice contrast to the soft outline of his lips. Unbidden, the thought of how those lips would feel against hers entered her mind and was quickly followed by the sudden desire to strip off several layers of her clothing just to feel more of his skin...
With a start, Sadie wrenched herself away from his body and shook those images from her mind as best as she could. Sirius groaned again and opened his eyes to glower at her, but the grogginess in his expression spoiled the effect somewhat. He sighed and reluctantly propped himself up on his elbow, rubbing a hand over his face.
"Alright, what is it Sadie Mae?"
For a moment, Sadie simply stared at him with wide, panicked eyes. He quirked an eyebrow at her, and she shook her head quickly to clear it.
"Snow!" She squeaked. "It snowed!"
In an instant, all tiredness was gone from Sirius's expression. His face split into a wide grin, and he threw the blanket off of himself and jumped out of bed. Despite having seen it plenty of times before, Sadie averted her eyes uncomfortably from her boxer-clad friend. Sirius didn't notice as he was busy throwing clothes on as quickly as he could. As soon as he was dressed, he grinned and grabbed her hand, pulling her out of the dorm with him.
This had been their tradition since first year. On the morning of the first snow of the season, they would get up early enough to spend a couple of hours outside before classes started. They would get in as much sledding, fort-building, and snowball-fighting as they could before reluctantly dragging themselves back into the castle in time to scarf down some breakfast and make it to class in the nick of time.
They had just made it to the bottom of their favorite sledding hill when Sirius sighed dramatically and laid down on his sled.
"I'm too tired to make it back up. You'll have to pull me." He smirked and glanced up at Sadie, who was staring at him incredulously. "Go on! Mush!"
Sadie scoffed, holding back laughter. "You wish! Besides, you're the dog here! If anything, it should be you pulling me!" Then, her eyes lit up, and she gave him a look that he knew all too well.
"No," he shook his head immediately. "Absolutely not."
Sadie knelt down in front of him with clasped hands and pouted prettily, batting her eyelashes. "Pretty please?"
Sirius clenched his jaw and tried not to look at her, but it was no use. With a groan of exasperation, he stood up and gestured toward her sled. "Fine. But only this once, and you owe me!"
Sadie leapt to her feet and clapped her hands excitedly before flinging herself onto her sled. Sirius glanced around them carefully and double-checked to make sure they were out of view of the castle before transforming into a dog. Sadie conjured a harness of sorts and attached one end of it to him and the other to the front of her sled. Sirius glanced back at her and rolled his eyes fondly before taking off. He found that it was much easier than he had anticipated. The sled glided smoothly over the snow, and running in the snow was much easier as a dog than as a human. Sadie laughed behind him, letting out a delighted squeal each time that they went over a small bump.
Sirius spotted a snow bank up ahead and grinned to himself. Just as they approached it, he veered hard to the right, wagging his tail in satisfaction when the action sent Sadie tumbling off of the sled and into the snow bank, which quickly buried her. He transformed back into himself and sauntered over with a smirk as she burst out of the snow.
"That was fant-t-tastic!" She exclaimed through chattering teeth. Sirius shook his head with a chuckle and reached a hand down to help her up. "I'm so c-cold!"
Sirius laughed and brushed some of the snow out of her hair. "Well, if we head back now, we could probably stop by the kitchens for some cocoa." The way her eyes lit up at those words was all the answer he needed.
A few days later, Sadie was sitting alone in the library working on her Care of Magical Creatures homework. They were currently studying thestrals, which Sadie found utterly fascinating. She was just writing out some of the details of thestral reproduction, lower lip caught between her teeth, when someone set their books down across from her. She glanced up to see Cynthia smiling at her uncertainly.
"Mind if I join you?" She asked. Sadie beamed at her and nodded.
"Go ahead!"
"Thanks." Cynthia slid gracefully into the chair. Sadie looked back down at her assignment, but it quickly became clear that she was not going to get anything else done with Cynthia there. The girl leaned forward and grinned.
"You and that Gideon Prewett are so cute together!"
Sadie looked up at her and smiled bashfully. "Oh! Thank you! You and Sirius are really great together too. I'm so glad to finally see him with someone who makes him so happy!"
Cynthia blanched ever so slightly, but Sadie didn't notice. "Well, thank you for saying that. But, really, I want to hear all about Prewett! Tell me everything that you love about him!"
Sadie sighed dreamily, all too happy to gush about her boyfriend. "Oh, he's absolutely wonderful! He's so thoughtful and romantic and always makes me laugh! And when I look at him, I just can't help but smile, you know?" She blushed. "I suppose it helps that he's really good-looking."
"I'll bet the sex is pretty good too, right?" Cynthia added slyly.
Sadie felt her face heat up. "Oh! Well, um, I don't know! We haven't... actually..."
Cynthia gaped at her. "You mean you haven't slept with him yet?" She whisper-yelled. "Wow, he must like you a lot!"
"What do you mean?" Sadie chewed on her lip anxiously.
"Well, I just mean that he's being really patient with you. Most guys would not be okay with waiting so long."
Sadie swallowed hard. "Really?"
Cynthia smiled sweetly. "Well, yeah! I mean, it's kind of part of being in a relationship. You're supposed to, you know, fill each other's needs. Goodness, Sirius and I certainly didn't wait very long!" A satisfied look passed through her eyes as she watched Sadie's brow furrow in thought. Then a flash of red made her give a little grin of triumph. "Well, speak of the devil!"
Sadie's head whipped around as Gideon approached their table. He grinned and bent down to press a swift kiss to her lips.
"Hey, Beautiful. You ready for dinner?"
Sadie forced a smile and nodded, quickly packing up her things. "Absolutely. It was, um, nice to chat with you, Cynthia."
The Ravenclaw nodded with a smile and a wave, and Gideon threaded his fingers through Sadie's as they walked out of the library. He cheerfully told her about his day and asked questions about hers. Just before they reached the Great Hall, he stopped and turned her to face him, looking at her in concern.
"Hey, you doing okay? You seem quiet."
Sadie blinked up at him. "Oh, yes, sorry. Just...still thinking about my Care of Magical Creatures essay."
Gideon looked skeptical but dropped the matter. At least until later that night.
All the other Gryffindors had gone to bed, and Sadie was curled up against Gideon's side as he lounged on the sofa. Her head rested on his chest, and he absently trailed his fingers up and down her side, giving her goosebumps. After a few minutes, he spoke softly.
"Alright, what's really on your mind?" He rolled his eyes in exasperation when she gave him a look of confusion. "Don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about. You've barely said two words all evening."
Sadie was quiet for several moments, and he waited patiently. Finally, she took a deep breath. "Do...Do you want to...have sex?" She asked timidly.
Gideon stiffened slightly and cleared his throat. "Um...you mean right now?" Sadie chewed on her lip.
"Well...no...just more...in a general sense..."
"Well, do you want to?" He asked carefully. She fiddled anxiously with the hem of his shirt as she thought about his question. When she didn't answer right away, Gideon shifted into a sitting position and pulled her up to look at him, giving her a gentle smile. "Sadie, I absolutely want to have sex with you eventually. But not until you are totally ready for it."
Sadie looked up at him through her eyelashes. "Won't you get tired of waiting?"
He kissed her softly before resting his forehead against hers. "I'll wait as long as I have to for it to be a good experience for both of us." He pulled back and eyed her with a look of amusement. "Has this really been eating at you all evening?" Sadie flushed.
"Maybe..." she admitted sheepishly. Gideon laughed and kissed her again.
"Well, stop it!"
She pouted at him. "I can't help it! I just want to make you happy!"
He sobered and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her tightly against his chest. "Sadie Potter, you already make me so happy. Don't ever feel like you have to change or give anything that you're not comfortable with for my sake."
Sadie smiled in spite of herself and buried her face in his chest, breathing deeply. "Okay," was all she said in response. Gideon kissed the top of her head and rubbed soothing circles on her back. They simply sat there comfortably for a while until he took a deep breath and pulled her away just enough that they could look at each other.
"How would you feel about coming to meet my family over the holidays?"
Sadie's eyes lit up. "Oh, I would love that! And you could meet my parents!"
Gideon grinned. "That would be great! We always get the whole family together for Christmas Eve dinner. Maybe you could come for that if you're not busy." She nodded excitedly.
"Yes! And we are usually pretty open the week after Christmas. I'm sure Mum and Dad would love to have you over for dinner sometime that week."
"Perfect," he smiled, and they settled back down on the couch, simply enjoying being close to each other.
A/N: Guys, I really like Gideon. Anybody on Team Gideon at the moment? Or are we all still Team Sirius? As always, thanks for reading, and let me know what you think!
Kyungwork: Thank you for your review! I'm so glad you are enjoying it! I actually have two kids who I post pictures of regularly, so I am pretty careful about who I give me social media out too. Thank you for your interest though!
