In space, among the stars, the Comet Cascade and its little crew of rebels were still on the hunt for flotarium, a special type of ore that fueled Homeworld warp drives.
Sadie was scanning the stars for any asteroids they could drege through when her hair suddenly sounded off and a letter floated to her lap. It was from Connie.
Dear Sadie, I hope everything is going alright up there in space! So much has happened since you were home, so much I can't explain it all in one trip, so I wrote this letter instead!
As you know, Lars quit both the Big Doughnut so the place has been pretty empty without any staff.
Steven sadly placed his hand to the glass, staring in at the empty and dimly-lit shop. Connie patted his back comfortingly.
"I'd join the staff if I didn't already work so many shifts at the car wash, just to bring doughnutty goodness back to Beach City!" Steven moaned.
"Universe, Demayo, hey." Dewey, the past mayor, walked by. Clearly, he was still stuck in the rountie of coming there each morning for his coffee before work. Now that he wasn't mayor and had no job to fulfill his day, he was restless and depressed most of the time. "Still not open? Guess me and the Big Doughnut have something in common now: we're both empty inside…"
As for the book store, it was sold to a couple a week ago. They'll be remaking the store into an antique shop.
Connie glared deeply at the sign saying, 'Under New Management: Earthly Antiques Coming Soon!'
Before I met them, I tried my best not to already dislike them for taking my favorite place in the whole universe away.
In political news, Dewey has removed himself from office for the newly-elected mayor: Nanafu. So far, she has been very willing to work with the Temps and even has these awesome town meetings to discuss our plans for gem threats!
The town was all gathered at Fish Stew Pizza to discuss their new plans for get attacks, Connie being the last to arrive, walking over solemnly to be by Lapis.
"What are you pouting for? Isn't this what you wanted the town to do?" Lapis whispered, nudging Connie out of her sullenness.
Connie nodded. "I just can't believe they sold the bookstore! How can people be more interested in old stuff than the prospect of new adventures?!"
"Eh, we've always been different from the folks here."
"Are you two paying attention?" Peridot suddenly hissed, startling them both.
"All the restaurants can pitch in food to supply the emergency shelters in case we have to hide out for a while." Nanafu added to the plan, one of her new assistants writing it down for her.
"Whenever we're in a situation, I hope everyone here knows not to engage the threat. The Temps will do that, you all have to get to safety." Jasper reminded the group.
"Even though my girl's a hero, nobody repeat her mistake, alright?" Barb laughed. She'd been trying to pretend Sadie being gone wasn't as big of a deal as it truly was. "I-I don't want to lose anyone else."
"Of course, Ms. Miller. We won't let last month's incident ever repeat itself." Connie promised.
"Hey! What if you get in serious trouble?! We can fight back if you need us to!" Peedee suddenly asked. The town cheered but the Temps all gave them stares to quiet down.
"Not necessarily, you would put these plans to waste then." Peridot grunted. "Right, Mayor?"
Nanafu realized she too had gotten into the fighting spirit and had practically thrown her own safety plan to the wind. "Oh, yes, yes…"
"But you guys saved us so many times…" Steven piped up. "And we wanna say we're thankful."
"Just knowing you'd all fight is enough." Connie assured him, squeezing his hand.
But he and the other townsfolk didn't look satisfied with that answer.
"Now everyone knows how I feel.." Dewey muttered. "Useless…"
"Okay, enough with the pity party! Come on, let's get back to it." Jasper said with a clap, getting them back on track.
The meeting resumed without a hitch.
Lars and the Cool Kids have been gaming a ton recently and are prepping for the next competition that's in a few weeks. Or at least I think they are, they seem busy with something lately.
"Hey guys, are you ready for a gaming ses-?" Connie paused, seeing the teens had practically threw themselves over some construction paper project they were working on. They'd been cutting familiar-looking shapes out of colored paper. "What's going on here?"
"Nothing, girl! We're, uh…" Jenny trailed off, looking to the boys for help.
"Getting ready to throw a rave here in Beach City! I'll be dj as usual." Sour Cream quickly said.
"Oh, cool! Can I come?"
"You better." Buck grunted mysteriously.
"… Okay…?"
"Anyway, we can't game tonight, we gotta get ready for that thing Sour Cream just said! And you have to… uh… polish your gem, right? Is that something you do?"
"I mean, I guess but I only do it once a week and I already-"
They gently walked her back up the stairs.
"Don't neglect self-care, girl! Do it again, love ya, byeee!"
Connie flinched at the door slamming. "… Bye?"
In surprising news, my dad decided after the recent events to do something drastic, no one expected it except me! We've kinda been planning it for a while.
Connie, Doug, Priyanka and the gems all sat around the long dining table Mr. Universe could afford with all his cash and ate dinner. Well, the humans, Lapis, Jasper, and Ametyhst ate while Pearl and Peridot discussed softly. Ever since it was revealed Rose was Pink Diamond, the two grew closer in their shared past crushes and discussed their current ones. They were currently at what to text to Serenade on Peri's new phone.
Love is blooming everywhere! Not only between my dad and Dr. Sharma, but also Peridot and Ms. Serenade since Peri finally got a phone! As for Pearl and Amethyst… it's kinda obvious where they are, I'll tell you that next!
"Priyanka, I was wondering… Uh… We'll, I know we had a rocky restart… but I… now that we know each other again and have been dating for a while I… was wondering if you'd like to move in with me?"
Priyanka stared at the keys in shock before a teary smile came on her face. "Well, if you're sure…"
The gems and Connie cheered while Amethyst and Pearl glanced at each other in confusion. Why was this such a big milestone, they'd been living together for a while and no one had made a big deal out of it.
I said before but the bookstore is now an antique shop! You won't believe who owns it!
Connie took a deep breath and finally went the shop, Earthly Antiques.
Strangely enough, none of these things were actually antiques, they were just ordinary stuff with some cool treasures hidden within. Ordinary stuff…? Did these people even know what antiques were?
She glanced over to a glass display case and her eyes widened in shock at seeing what was inside. "No way!"
She ran up to make sure and then rang the little metal bell for service. A single second passed before she started doing it repeatedly, she had to know!
"Coming!"
Pearl came out with a smile at seeing the girl. "Connie! You finally came to our place of business!"
"It really is you guys!" Connie beamed, seeing Amethyst also come in from the back. "I saw the tea-toops and couldn't believe it!"
Meowlon ran out then, purring as she went between Connie's legs.
"Isn't it neat? Your old man saw the barn and said if we liked collecting stuff so much, maybe we could help others do the same, so he bought us this shop!" Amethyst grinned, placing an arm around Pearl.
"Not only does it clean up our lovely home, it strengthens our bond!" Pearl sighed happily. "Now we're partners!"
Connie gasped, her eyes diamonds. "Partners…?!"
"Partners in business, yes!"
That's right! Pearl and Amethyst own the antique shop and they said they were partners so they must be official now, right?!
Connie skipped out of Earthly Antiques with a bag full of things, mainly the things Amethyst and Pearl had accidentally borrowed from her. They didn't charge a thing either, not needing the money. It was a great store.
"Isn't it nice that old broken things can be repurposed…?" Dewey sighed, looking up at the sign as Connie went pass. "Wish humans could do that."
"They can!" Connie smiled, turning back to him.
"Then why can't I?!" The old mayor growled in frustration, tears coming to his eyes.
"Dewey…?"
"You know what I miss the most about being the mayor?" Dewey asked as they walked down the street together. "The little things, getting dressed and ready for work, walking down the boardwalk seeing everyone's smiling faces Yes! Knowing I had a place in this town. I used to look forward to it every day…"
They stopped in front of the Big Doughnut and he sighed, "Just like the people of this town used to look forward to their morning donut. I guess these days no one gets what they want…"
Connie's eyes lit up then. "I have an idea!"
Mayor Dewey started working at the Big Donut. It seemed as if the entire town showed up for the grand re-opening. The whole thing filled Mr. Dewey with a new sense of purpose. He's really changing things up too. Well, not really, but he is naming all of the donuts after himself.
But there is one donut that's not named after Dewey.
Barb opened the door and was surprised to see Dewey. He smiled shakily and then opened a doughnut box, revealing a round yellow doughnut with white icing and little golden star-shaped sprinkles.
It's called The Sadie Special, it's got lemon frosting and little stars. It's all yellow since you are too. It's a town favorite because everyone wants to feel like you're here with us in this new Beach City, as we wait for you to arrive home.
Anyway, I hope everything is going alright up there in the stars…
"Love, Connie Universe."
Sadie glanced up to see Connie poking out of her golden hair, a peaceful smile on her face. "Connie, why did you write this if you were just going to tell me it in person?"
"I love being read to, don't you?"
"Yeah, I guess… But really, I don't know half of the people you mentioned in this letter. Like, I don't even know who Pearl or Amethyst are…"
"They're your new otp." Connie answered confidently. "I'll introduce you when you get back."
"Sounds like a plan." Sadie smiled, looking up at her. "… Thanks for the letter, Connie."
