Intentions

By ShadowCloud62

Summary: Pinako Rockbell decides to confront the man Trisha Elric has fallen in love with. Being protective, she asks him important questions that change his and Trisha's life forever.

Pinako knew exactly where to find him. Turning around a corner of the hall, Pinako knocked on the study room door.

"Trisha, I told you, I'm not to be disturbed when I'm–"

"That's no way to treat a guest, now is it?" Pinako said coolly.

The voice quieted. Pinako assumed it was a 'come in', so she turned the knob, opened the door, but remained standing by the doorway.

He turned away from his numerous alchemy books to face her. Pinako assumed he must've had thousands of alchemy books.

"What is it, Pinako?" he asked. His golden blonde hair was tied back in a dignified ponytail, his golden eyes were shielded with thin glasses.

"I must speak with you Hohenheim, if I don't talk to you now, I might not ever...because you study too damn much." Pinako said.

Hohenheim clasped his hands together, "I'm listening."

Pinako clenched her fists tightly at her sides and asked bluntly,

"What are your intentions with my daughter Trisha?"

"Trisha isn't your daughter, Pinako," Hohenheim replied.

"I consider her my daughter," Pinako shot back, "now answer my question."

Hohenheim merely stared at the old woman. Pinako was greatly annoyed by this. He knew what she was talking about, he was just pretending he didn't.

"What exactly do you mean?" Hohenheim asked innocently, a small smile adorning his features.

"Don't play dumb with me, I've seen horrible liars, and they're better than you." Pinako said.

Hohenheim 's smile faded. He sighed and remained silent for a few moments.

"That depends," he said almost a lifetime later, "what do you mean by 'intentions', Pinako?"

"You've already given her two sons," Pinako said.

Hohenheim didn't need to hear any more.

"Marry her, you mean?" Hohenheim raised both eyebrows this time.

"Hell yes," Pinako growled, "won't you get out of this room just for once to marry her? Do you even love her!"

Hohenheim turned serious yet again. Pinako was actually amazed that kept this calm and cool composure for this long, "Of course I love her."

"Well, if you love her, then why won't you marry her!"

"I can't marry her."

"Why not!" demanded Pinako, "You can't just take advantage of her like this!"

"I'm not taking advantage of her."

"Then why the hell do you plan on leaving!"

To Pinako 's pleasure, she saw a glint of surprise in his eyes. Hohenheim furrowed his eyebrows in suspicion, "Who told you?" he kept his voice serious but Pinako already knew he was shocked that she knew.

"Don't think I'm stupid, Hohenheim, I've seen many things and I'm still not past my prime," Pinako took out her trusty pipe and lit it anxiously, "I know what you're planning to do. Up and leave after taking advantage of her."

A flash of anger crossed his eyes this time, "That's not the case. There is something I have to do. I'll come back when I do it."

Pinako narrowed her eyes from behind her glasses after blowing a smoke ring out, "You bastard. Don't you even care about Trisha!"

"I do." Hohenheim answered almost instantly.

"Then why! What is more important than her!"

Hohenheim paused, then turned back to his research,

"...I'm doing this for her."

Pinako wanted to question more, wanted to know what he was planning to do, but she knew once he turned away that was all she was going to get from him. She turned and marched out of the house, slamming the study door shut.

Done. This is a one shot for a reason. I decided to work on someone other than Ed and Winry, so I thought why not challenge myself and use a confrontation between Hohenheim and Pinako about Trisha?
