The next morning, Shira groaned from her spot in bed. Her body ached all over. As soon as she had gotten home yesterday, she had immediately started cardio training until she couldn't feel her legs anymore and passed out from the exhaustion.
While her quirk was limited in what it could do in combat, it also limited her stamina. Endurance wasn't the best thing for someone with one functioning lung after all. Although she had quite a fit body, drawn- out battles would never be in her favor.
But after seeing everyone's quirks and her class ranking yesterday, she knew she'd have to push herself even to the extremes. She had already fufilled her promise that she would make her family proud, now she just had to maintain it, no matter what.
She forced herself up, getting ready for school and being out the door in record time.
Shira pulled out her phone as she walked to school, playing the new All Might game Midoriya recommended to her. She knew had released a week ago, but she had never got around to trying it because of school and training.
A few minutes later, she heard a car honking aggressively. Looking up, she didn't have time to register what was happening before she got yanked back roughly.
She fell on her bottom harshly, her phone slipping out of her hand and cracking besides her. Shira stared wide-eyed at the vehicle that was only an inch away from squishing her like chewed gum.
"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" A familiar voice roared. She tensed, looking over her shoulder to see a raging Bakugo glaring down at her, his backpack discarded a few feet away.
"What.." Shira asked, dazed. She must've been imagining. Where did he come from?
"How the hell can you call yourself a hero in training when you can't even follow basic road rules." Bakugo scowled, turning around to grab his backpack from the ground.
Shira watched him blankly, still on the ground. The shock was stopping her from registering what was going on. Bakugo walked back towards her glaring, before stepping over her to continue on his way.
"Look both ways before you cross the street, dumbass." He sneered over his shoulder.
"Look both...?" Shira followed his figure dumbly before coming back to reality. She internally groaned, rubbing her hands down her face and squeezing her eyes shut tightly. "Oh my gosh." She whined, "That's so embarrassing..."
The honk of cars reminded her of where she was, in the middle of the street. She scrambled to her feet hurriedly, grabbing her cracked phone and backpack. She quickly bowed to the pile up of cars before scurrying back on her way to U.A.
Once at school, the day flew by partially fast. Just like any other school, U.A. also had extracurricular classes as requirements for students. And they were all boring.
She especially hated English with Present Mic. Don't get her wrong, while he was very... eccentric, she didn't look forward to being yelled at in another language.
So when lunch came by, she couldn't bury her contempent. Lunch Rush's food made the wait worthwhile, especially since she could never get enough food.
Finally, the afternoon came, and with that was the first day of Hero Basic Training.
1A sat in the classroom conversing while they waited on their mystery teacher.
Feeling something hit her head, Shira whipped around in her seat, leaving her conversation with Tokoyomi to glare at the closest suspect. Kirishima.
Kirishima, as if feeling the glaring penitrating his skull, turned around and raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?"
"Did you throw something at me?" She accused.
His eyes creased in confusion. "No way! That's so unmanly to hit a woman."
"Mhmm..." she mumbled, scanning the room before making eye contact with Mina who was waving widely to gain her attention . Shira raised an eyebrow in confusion, watching as the pink girl gestured towards the floor besides her. She followed her sight, seeing a ball of crumpled paper.
Bending down to pick it up, she heard someone gasp besides her. When she sat up, she looked over to be met with a drooling Mineta who was staring down at her skirt, that had lifted on the sides in his seat.
"PERVERT!" Shira yelped, throwing the balled up paper at the mini creep's head. Instead of bouncing off, the ball of paper got stuck in the boy's hair. She tugged down her skirt, frowning at her perverted classmate.
"Wow Todoroki," Mineta praised, licking his lips grossly. "Nice bu-" Before he could finish, he was frozen from the bottom of his chair all the way up to his mouth. He looked behind her panickedly, and she followed his gaze.
Todoroki was looking forward emotionlessly, as if nothing happened. He suddenly cut his eyes at the ball-headed boy, eyes narrowing. "You should watch what you say." He warned, making Mineta panic while under the ice.
"Ugh, he's the worst." Mina said, standing besides Shira's chair. Shira nodded in agreement. While she's used to having admirers every now and then, she'd never ran into any proud perverts like Mineta.
"Oh!" Shira yelped, turning towards Mina. "Did you throw that paper?" She asked.
Mina nodded, making Shira squint her eyes. "Heyyy... that hurt a bit." She pouted, rubbing the spot on the back of her head.
A few of the boys blushed at the expression, even Tokoyomi not being able to stop the slight flush in his cheeks.
'So...cute!"
Mina giggled, "Sorry, girl. At least you're not in Mineta's spot." she smirked, pointing behind her. Shira looked over her shoulder, seeing a now unfrozen but wet Mineta being strangled by a seething Bakugo.
"Sheesh, what'd he do to make him mad?"
"Anything makes him mad." Mina quipped, making both the girls burst out in giggles.
"But anyways," Mina said. "On the note, I was asking who you think the teacher will be for this class?"
Shira had never really thought much into who would be teaching Basic Hero Training. In fact, she hadnt guessed for any of the classes because she secretly didn't care. Hero's still weren't her favorite people in the world...
Before Shira could answer, Kirishima butted in. "I think its one of the top 10!"
Shira tilted her head, turning to look at him curiously. "Why do you think that?"
"Well they are the best of the best." Mina agreed. "Which do you think will be teaching us, Kiri?"
"Hmm.." He trailed off in thought. "Probably Endeavor?" He offered, not seeing the twins tensing. "I mean, he is the number 2 hero afterall."
Midoriya, who noticed the siblings reactions, chimed in. "I-I think its All Might..."
"He did reveal that he is apart of the U.A. staff in my acceptance projection." Momo stated, everyone else nodding along in agreement.
"I am..."
Everyone looked towards the door. Standing in the doorway was All Might, dressed in his hero costume. ".. coming through the door like a normal person!"
Everyone gasped in awe, voicing their excitement.
"Wow, he really is a teacher."
"Isnt that his silver age costume?"
"Im getting goose bumps!"
Kirishima turned towards Shira, grinning from ear to ear. "Isn't he amazing, Shira?"
Shira internally winced, careful not to let her uncertainty show on her face as she smiled. "Definitely." Kirishima seemed satisfied with the answer, facing forwards again.
While she had nothing against All Might personally, she just didn't put her faith into heros anymore like she used to. Because of her father, heros in general had a dark tint over them. Nobody would ever guess how Endeavor ruined his family, what would be different from the other pros.
She wanted to be a hero and a role model for those like her. Kids who were let down, disappointed, or ignored by heros. She wanted to show those people that there is someone who cares out there, not just for publicity. And she would take his rank while she did it, too.
All Might grinned at class. "I teach Basic Hero Training! Here, you will learn the basics to being a hero!"
Shira sweatdropped. The name is pretty much self explanatory ...
"You'll take the most units of this subject, so lets get right to it! Your objective today is..."
He pulled out a flashcard, showcasing to the class.
"COMBAT TRAINING!"
Shira frowned, balling her fists tightly. Of course they would be testing out her biggest weakness. She looked up ahead, hearing a cry of excitement coming from Bakugo. She didn't even need to see his face to know that he was grinning sadistically.
"Combate training..." Midoriya peeped quietly, looking sick at the thought.
"At least im not the only one.." She muttered to herself. As if he heard her, All Might made eye contact with Shira. She froze at the slightly intimidating look, before glancing away.
"Grab your costumes," A wall opened, numbered suitcases gliding out individually. "And meet on ground Beta after you change!"
•••
Shira frowned, tugging up the costume up her leg but to no avail. It was too tight and not elastic enough. "You've gotta be kidding me." She pouted, shoulders deflating.
Momo walked over, dressed in her seemingly inappropriate costume. While it was perfect for her quirk, Shira blanched at the sheet amount of cleavage that was exposed. Mineta was gonna have a field day with this.
"What's wrong, Todoroki-chan?" Momo asked, laying a gentle hand on the twin's bare shoulder.
Shira blushed in embarrassment, looking down. Her short white locks brushing over her face did a good job at hiding it. "I can't fit my costume..."
Mina walked over, her costume also on. "What? But they should have your exact measurements." She squatted down, tugging at the fabric that only got up to Shira's knees. "Oh..."
"I'll have to get it fixed," Shira groaned, running a hand down her face. "I really can't deal with this right now.."
"Wait! Mine was the same way!" Uraraka ran over, her big boots surprisingly making no noise. "Mine is a jumpsuit too! Super tight right?" When Shira nodded, Uraraka smiled sheepishly. "You have to jump into it."
"What?" Shira asked.
"Just grab it and jump into it to force it up." She demonstrated it to show what she meant.
Shira copied her movements, grabbing the fabric and jumping whislt tugging at the same time. After a few minutes and a bit of help, she finally got the tight jumpsuit on.
She walked over to a mirror in the corner of the room, examining herself. Her jumpsuit was bloody red, with crimson sections on the toes of her built in heels, behind her calves, on the inside of her thighs, her chest and back area, and lastly her shoulders. The fabric covered her from the tips of her toes to the top of her neck and there were black specks littered all across to represent the dust from her quirk. Secured around her hips was a utility belt equipped with several asthma pumps and burning cream.
She had made sure to insist that her costume was explosion and fire proof even tho she herself would be fine if caught up in her own explosions. While she might get burned, any harm self inflicted by her quirk healed itself quicker than most injuries. Her hair was the only exception so she tried to stay clear of those mistakes.
The last piece to her costume was a blood red eye mask. The red colors of her costume contrasted against her soft white hair that she could only tuck behind her ears due to its shortness. All in all she liked the costume, but there was always room for improvement.
The girls crowded behind her, gushing over the costume.
"Todoroki- san, your costume suits you and your quirk so much!" Momo complimented, laying her hand on Shira's shoulder momentarily before letting go.
Shira blushed, looking down in embarrassment. "T-Thank you Yaoyorozu- chan.."
Momo giggled, waving her hand. "Call me Momo, I insist." Shira smiled, nodding.
"C'mon lets go, I wanna see how the boys costumes look!" Hagakure gushed, tugging Mina towards the door.
Mina squealed in excitement. Everyone else followed behind them. Shira would be lying if she said she wasn't curious as well.
"I bet they're gonna look so freaking hot! Especially Todoroki!" Some of the girls hooted their agreements, while Shira gagged, making them giggle at her antics. "Oops- sorry Shira-kun!"
Once they finally met up with the boys, All Might began explaining the rules and teams for the exercise. You stood by Momo, who was taking notes of evwrything the Symbol of peace was saying. After awhile, Shira tuned him out, looking around at her classmates costumes.
She liked how Ojiro's, and respected the martial arts look he was going for. Iida and his robot suit, and Koda looked down right adorable. She turned her head slightly only to feel her jaw drop once she saw Kirishima's costume from a distance.
If she thought Momo's was revealing, Kirishima's took the cake! His whole upper body was bare, with only his shoulders being covered with red shoulderpads. He wore baggy pants tucked into boots, with a ripped cloth wrapped around his hips with a symbol R in the center.
"I wonder what that R represents..." She wondered. Her eyes scanned back up his body, to his face, just to be met with red eyes looking right back at her.
"Shit!" She cussed herself for staring so openly. He stared back at her for a bit before smiling gently, waving at her. She kept her blushing to a minimum, waving back.
Then suddenly, she felt a chill run up her spine. Turning around slowly, there was Mineta standing a little too close to her behind for her liking. He wiped drool from his mouth as he whipped his head between you and Momo.
"Wow, It feels great knowing we have the hottest girls in the school in our class." He bragged, elbowing Kaminari. "Between Yaomomo's cleavage and Todoroki's spandex, my imagination is running wild!"
Shira gasped in horror, while Momo turned around in complete shock, covering her exposed skin. It was sad how even in their professional attire, they'd get sexualized. Shira couldn't imagine how someone like Midnight felt!
"You pervert!" Shira yelped, taking a step back but bumping backs into someone.
"Hey!-" Hostile red eyes cut into brown and blue. "Oh.." He muttered, seeing her terrified expression. He looked over her shoulder at the short pervert who was still making inappropriate body observations and pushed past the twin briskly.
"Wait, what are you-" She watched at Bakugo grabbed the thing by his collar, dragging him behind the wall out of sight, Mineta's cries for help fading out.
"Oh my.." Momo whispered. Shira glanced at her, seeing her shoulders drop. "I... I only put this much clevage because I need as much space to make big objects as possible. I can't make a cannon from my legs.."
Shira frowned, laying a hand on her friends shoulder. She understood why she mad her costume the way it was. Just like it's not her fault people judged the tightness of her costume, its not Momo's fault for her needed to accommodate to her quirk.
"First up, Team A versus Team D!" All Might's voice boomed excitedly. Uraraka and Midoriya walked towards the building together. Mina nudged Shira, who was deep in her thoughts.
"Huh?"
"Go!"
"What? I'm team D?" She asked, looking at Momo who nodded. "Whose my teammate?"
"Him." Mina gestured behind her. Shira turned around, seeing Bakugo walking back towards the group with one hand in his pocket, the other dragging a beaten Mineta with him.
Once he reached the group he released the pervert, letting him fall with a thud. He walked past Shira, towards the the building.
After noticing she wasn't following, he glanced over his shoulder glaring.
"Come on, Ugly!"
Shira scoffed, marching up after him. "Who you callin' ugly!"
"Blah, Blah! If we lose, it's on your ass!"
•••
It matter of factly, wasn't on her ass.
Once they got inside, Bakugo demanded that she just watch the object while he fought. She had no problem with it, since her quirk wasn't the best of offence. Or defense either really but she'd hopefully have less of a chance of fighting.
So during her time up there she sat criss crossed by the object, waiting patiently for a confirmation of their victory until the sound of a atomic bomb dropping ran throughout the whole building as it shook.
"W-what was that?!" Shira said into her ear peice, standing up tensely. All might warned Bakugo against doing it again or else they would lose, which bakugo only scoffed in reply. "Bakugo?!"
"Shut the hell up!" He screamed before his sound went out.
Shira was on edge now. She slowly circled the object, expecting the worse.
All Might's voice screamed through her mic, "Both of you, sto-"
She didn't catch the end as the floor erupted, the air pressure sweeping her off her feet. She tried grabbing for the object but barely missed it.
She screamed as her back hit the window, glass shattering on impact. The wind whipped past her face as she fell, ears popping from the pressure.
She forced her body to twist in the air, back now facing the sky as she fell towards. She sucked in a large breathe then blew out as much as she could, emassing a a cloud of gunpowder.
She waited until she was closer to the ground, her heart hammering in her ribs as she bit down with as much force as she could muster. She squeezed her eyes shut in anticipation.
The force of her explosion had her flying back upwards by a few feet, so when she hit the ground she would land with much less force. The shattered glass caught up with her, showering her body in cuts.
Just as her nose was a few feet from the ground, arms caught her in a tackle. The skidded the ground, them taking the brunt of the fall. She couldn't hold in her grunt of pain.
"Shira!"
"Todoroki- kun!"
She opened her eyes, seeing the blurry figures of her classmates running towards her. Glancing over her shoulder, she was met with the troubled eyes of her teacher.
All Might stood, holding the twin in his arms. "Are you alright, Todoroki- san?"
Shira's wimpered pitifully, holding back tears. Damnit Shira! You can't be a hero if you're so damn WEAK! "I- I can't b-breathe." She gasped out.
"Her utility belt, All Might!" Momo yelled out.
All Might quickly caught on, opening a pouch on the girl's belt and pulling out an inhaler. He put it up to his student's lips, gently mashing down on the button. After a few puffs, he pulled it back, looking down at her cautiously.
"Are you alright now, Young Todoroki?"
Shira shakily nodded, avoiding eye contact. She moved to stand, so he gently set her on her feet, leaving a hand on her shoulder to which she shook off. She heard him sigh quietly but didn't bother turning around. She was too ashamed.
She walked past her classmates, not stopping to hear their words of encouragement, just focusing on walking without falling. Kirishima frowned sadly as she walked past him, sensing that it wasn't the time.
'What kind of hero am I if I can't even catch myself when I fall! If it were Shoto in my place...'
She glanced up, scanning the group of worried classmates for her twin only to find him looking towards the building, back to her. Her shoulders dropped, she comtinued her walk back to the surveillance room.
"THE WINNERS GO TO TEAM A!" All Might's voice boomed. Shira scoffed, dropping her head. All of that, and they didn't even win. She could only imagine what Endeavor would say.
Not too long later, Bakugo walked in quietly, sitting on the ground a few feet away from her. Neither spoke, since there was nothing to say.
Yaomomo went on to say everything their team did wrong. Bakugo being to reckless and dominant and Shira being too docile and hesitant.
After the clean up of the building, the rest of the matches went by smooth and according. Well, besides her brother single handedly securing the object in less than 2 minutes.. with only his ice.
Shira sunk further in her seat. She knew it was wrong of her to jealous of her brother- her twin brother, that she should be happy, proud, and amazed but all she felt was envy. And she hated it.
Beside her, Bakugo glared at Shoto due to all the praise he was getting. That was supposed to be him! He sucked his teeth, looking away.
They both were ready for this exercise to end.
After the last match, All Might hurridly congratulated everyone for their hard work, before rushing off.
"He's probably going to check on Deku." Uraraka quipped, finger to her lip.
Shira glanced up, eyes squinted. "Did you just call him a loser?"
Uraraka jumped, waving her hands. "No! That's what Bakugo calls him- I just thought it was cute!" She laughed nervously. Shira turned her head towards Bakugo, only to see he was walking away, hands tucked in his pockets.
Shira sighed and went to stand, only for her legs to wobble. Before she could lose her balance, two hands grabbed at her arms.
She looked to her left, seeing the muzzled face of Eijiro looking at her in worry. Glancing to the right, Shoto held her elbow firmly, face impassive. He looked at Kirishima's hand, then at Kirishima, tugging Shira out of his grasp. "I've got her."
Kirishima backed away, hands held up innocently. "Sorry bro, just worried about my friend." He looked at Shira. "You okay...?"
She tried to muster up a fake smile but she didn't even have the energy. She sighed, shoulders deflating. "No, but there's always next time I guess."
Shoto tugged her sleeve again, making her half smile at Eijiro. "See you later."
"See you later, Shira! Awesome suit by the way, totally manly!" She sweatdropped at the boyish compliment as her brother dragged her away.
"Thanks?..." Eijiro chuckled, flashing a bright smile that almost gave her second hand happiness.
"If you're done drooling, I'd like to go home."
Shira whipped her head towards Shoto in disbelief. Did he really just say that. "Shoto! What the hell?!"
He only shrugged in reply. Shira huffed, speedwalking to get away from him only for him to match her pace. What a long day...
•••
Finally, the end of the day came.
She had gotten a few tips, concerns , and reassurances during the day about her performance, but each one drained her more and more.
She just needed to work harder. She was weak. Useless. Unworthy. The promise she vowed to keep felt hard to manage and this was only day 2.
As she walked out of the door, bag slung over her shoulder, she heard shouting in the distance. She looked over, finding her fiesty blonde classmate yelling at someone, but she couldn't see who.
"Shit! I even agreed to what that girl said! My attack was stupid! Damnit, Damnit, Damnit!"
She tilted her head, standing quietly the wall. It looked like Bakugo was having a mental break down, and she was debating against staying quiet or walking over.
"Enjoy your win, Deku!" Midoriya? "You won't get another! I'm just getting started!" He covered his eyes with his hands, but she caught the shine of tears coating his eyes. Her heart sunk at the sight.
He always held up a confident persona, from
when they first met to even now. And from what she heard, him and Izuku were childhood friends, so she knew how hard it must be to be thought of as weak in front of someone who thought you were strong.
Bakugo huffed, gripping his fist tightly. "You'll never beat me again, you bastard! Dont even try!" He said, showing his tears as he stared Midoriya down.
After a few moments he walked away, wiping at his eyes. She waited until she heard Midoriya's footsteps retreating before she followed behind Bakugo.
She kept a good distance of 20 feet between them. She was unsure of if he even knew if she was there or not, but it didn't bother her regardless.
After 20 minutes, he finally turned into a yard... a house away from her grandma's. She scrunched her brow as walked past his house, watching him as he went up his steps.
There's no way that this whole time he was her neighbor and she didn't even notice all these years?!
As if he felt her staring, he whipped his head towards her, glaring. "Are you following me?!"
"No!" Shira scoffed, turning into her own yard. "I live here!"
His eyes squinted in suspicion, before he walked inside his house, slamming the door behind him.
"Hmph."
She walked inside, yelling an "I'm home Nana!" to her grandmother, trudging all the way to her room.
She disregarded her bookbag, immediately slumping on her bed. The bandages on her back itched at the contact. She had gotten Recovery girl to patch up her injuries from the sharded glass.
Today was too much of a roller ride for the youngest Todoroki, and it was only the second day!
"What's next," She sighed quietly, running w hand through her soft white hair. "Fighting real villains?
