Her Puppy, His Angel.
"Auntie Aerith? Are you in here?" Marlene asked as she tip-toed into Zack and Aerith's Bedroom. Zack had sent her, since he was in the middle of doing whatever Zack does when he's to lazy to get Aerith himself.
"Yes, come in, Marlene." Aerith replied in her gentle angelic tone.
Marlene smiled when she spotted the flower lady sitting in front of her bureau, studying her reflection in front of her while her long and slender fingers worked and weaved through her long brown hair. Marlene trotted across their elegant bedroom, full of mahogany and floral arrangements at every corner.
They must be really important to Cloud and Tifa, since they have the biggest room in their little apartment that we share above the bar. Marlene thought to herself as she plopped down on the cream-colored love seat in front of their bed, her arms cradling marshmallow and Boo, her two Guinea pigs.
She originally was supposed to have one pet, but thanks to Zack's mistake, She now had two. Not that she cared!
"I'm sorry to disturb you, but Uncle Zack want's to know if you're ready? He sent me because he's to busy making fun of Cloud for being short."
Aerith giggled as she tied the end of her hair to hold it in place. "Marlene, you could never bother me. And oh, is he?" Aerith laughed again as she gave the pink ribbon a hearty pat before she got up and turned to face the girl.
"Wow, you look so beautiful!" Marlene cried, her eyes growing wide as she admired the pink floral dress Aerith had chosen for the evening with her night out with her husband.
Aerith beamed. "Thank you, however, I know I won't be wearing these types of dresses for long." She replied before patting her middle.
Marlene smiled even wider. "That's okay, because Zack can buy you new dresses once the baby gets bigger!" Marlene said stroking the top of Boo's head.
Aerith smiled. "You're right, he will now won't he?"
Marlene nodded. "Uh huh!"
Aerith giggled. "Well, I'm going to head down and yell at your Uncle for being mean. Care to join me?" Aerith asked tilting her head slightly to the side, the way she always does after she's just asked a question.
"Yeah! Let me just put Marshmellow and Boo away!" Marlene replied and was out of the room faster than lightning. Aerith smiled as she followed the girl out of her room, not at the exact speed of course.
Aerith laughed when she saw Marlene by the stairs, grinning ear to ear. She couldn't look any cuter than she did now with her long hair in two braids, in her pink chocobo pj's and holding her favorite teddy bear.
"Come on! Come on! I can hear them arguing!" Marlene exclaimed in a loud whisper, taking Aerith's hand in her free one.
The two giggled as they quietly made their way down the stairs to hear the sounds of Zack and Cloud's voices getting louder.
"I really wanted to take my bike out tonight but...You and our child is way more important." Zack said as he wrapped an arm around Aerith's slim waist, it'd only be a few months before her pregnancy would start to show.
Aerith smiled as she leaned her head against Zack's shoulder, the place where she reached him.
"And you know how I feel about motorcycles." Aerith replied, earning a laugh from her husband.
"They're not that dangerous, Angel." Zack replied with another chuckle as he reached out to open the door for them.
It only took one look at this place for Aerith to gasp.
A garden. The restaurant was an outdoor garden.
Encircled with large evergreens and willows wrapped in Christmas lights so that they had that enchanting glow.
Aerith couldn't believe that a place, so beautiful like this, could even exist in the slums of Midgar, even though they're starting to repair the city it was still an unbelievable sight.
"Zack! This is SO beautiful!" Aerith exclaimed her eyes scanning the restaurant, that seemed like more of a garden if it weren't for the dinning tables, and the doors to the kitchen and the bathrooms.
"Too bad the prices aren't." Zack muttered pulling out a chair for Aerith.
"What was that?" Aerith asked in a gentle voice as she watched her husband walk around the table to take a seat next to her.
Zack laughed. "Oh nothing, everything is fi-uck!"
Aerith jumped slightly, startled as Zack shouted, he scooted his chair back and bent forwards to rub at his knee, which he smacked against one of the tables legs.
'Damn it." He cursed ignoring the starring couples, who were seated close by them.
Aerith gave them an apologetic smile before leaning over the table slightly so that they couldn't hear her and Zack's conversation.
"Are you alright, honey?"
"Fine." Zack replied scooting closer against the table. "I really think they should make these tables higher, not everyone is short like Cloud."
Aerith giggled, but got herself together just as a waiter dressed in a fancy tux came over to them. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes that were locked on Aerith. Zack saw this and felt a bolt of jealousy start to race through his veins, but WHY?
Aerith was HIS wife, carrying HIS baby. She loved HIM and only him! She didn't even notice the waiter! Her eyes were admiring the multi-colored pansies that hung above their heads from the ceiling in little woven baskets.
So why was he jealous? No, he was just being protective. Yeah, that was it!
Zack cleared his throat after a few moments of the waiter just staring at Aerith, didn't the guy notice that she's OFF LIMITS!?
The waiter blinked and looked over at Zack, his eyes widened slightly in fear, since Zack was MUCH bigger than him and by no doubt, MUCH stronger.
"Oh, sorry..." The waiter said smiling nervously at Zack. "My name is Larry, and I'll be taking care of you."
Keep staring at my wife and I'LL be taking care of you, Zack wanted to say but forced a smile and kept his mouth shut.
Aerith took her gaze off the flowers and looked up at their waiter for the first time. "Hello, Larry. This is such a beautiful restaurant!"
"Yes you are." Lary replied as he handed them both their menu's.
"I think she meant the restaurant, Larry." Zack replied, trying to keep his voice from raising. He wanted everything to go perfect tonight. No matter how much he wanted to crack Larry in the jaw for checking out his wife.
Larry ignored Zack as he asked them on what they wanted to drink.
"Iced Tea, please!" Aerith replied.
"The strongest alcohol you got." Zack muttered, earning himself a kick in the shin from Aerith.
Larry raised a brow.
"I mean, water." Zack said flashing Larry a false smile.
"Alright, I'll be back soon." Larry said and then he was off to get them their drinks.
"Not to soon, I hope." Zack said out loud.
"Sorry, what did you say?" Aerith asked boring her eyes into the menu.
"I said Not Too Moon Pie Soap!" Zack replied quickly.
"Not To Moon Pie Soap?" Aerith repeated, her eyes not leaving the menu. "What's that!?"
"Um...a TV show..." Zack said as he clumsily opened up his menu.
"What's it about?"
"Not to Moon Pie Soap obviously! See, they make pie's and put soap into them and if you...uh...if you moon them, you know, show your butt, it can give you some serious health issues! It's on the History Channel!" Zack explained, making the entire thing up.
"Hmm...I've never heard of it, we should watch it some time! It sounds very interesting." Aerith replied, finally shutting her menu.
"Oh, they canceled it a few years ago because it made people afraid of soap...and pie..." Zack replied, surprised on how easy it was to fool Aerith, Cloud could never get away with something like this with Tifa.
Larry came back with their drinks. "Are you ready to order, dear?" he asked her, and only her.
Zack clenched his fists but remained still. "Sorry Larry, but she doesn't like deer, is there anything else on the menu?"
Larry flushed of embarrassment, Aerith didn't seem to notice and ordered her food, Zack did as well and fought the urge to not stab the man with his steak knife. Actually, through out their entire meal, Zack was surprised that he hadn't.
"You know, there is nothing for you to be jealous about." Aerith said to Zack as they headed up the flight of stairs to the little apartment they shared with their friends.
"What?" Zack asked nearly dropping his keys.
Aerith giggled and took him by the hand gently so that he'd face her.
"I could see it in your eyes. you were jealous that the waiter kept staring at me."
Zack swallowed and reached up to scratch his head. It was something he always did when he puzzled or embarrassed.
"I just...didn't like how he was looking at you like you were a piece of meat, you're much more than that. You deserve the best, there is so much to you Aerith and I just want you to be protected is all..."
Aerith smiled and wrapped her arms around Zack's waist, resting her head on his chest to hear the steady beat of his heart.
"I am protected, and I do have the best, because I have you. Zack, as long as I have my puppy, I'm the most safe and happiest girl in Midgar."
Zack smiled and kissed the top of her head before placing his large hands over her belly, where their unborn child was just starting to grow. Zack felt warmth hit him at the thought of their baby already having a heartbeat.
Aerith giggled. "I hope it's a boy, so he's just like you."
Zack bent down to kiss her again, this time on the lips. "I hope it's a girl, so she's just like you."
"Hmm, I'm sure we'll be happy with whatever our baby ends up being, because it's our baby." Aerith added.
"That's right, ours."
Zack pulled her close for another hug, this one a bit tighter. Protective.
Letting her know that she was his one and only and he was her one and only, but of course she already knew that.
And so did he.
He was her puppy, and she was his angel.
A/N: There you have it! I hope you enjoyed Greenpearl! :D And of course to everyone else! Stay tuned for more! :D
