A/N: Hello everyone! I am now in my first year of college! It's crazy! And I'm working with children and babies during the week at a daycare and am loving it! :) I am also LOVING how well the story is going! I know I keep saying this but you all seriously rock! :D Now here is a one shot with our lovely friend, Red XIII! Enjoy! :D
AAAANNNNDDDD since Halloween is just a couple of days I figured I'd write a Halloween fanfic! :D
THIS IS MODERN AU!

~Trick-or-Treating with Nanaki~
"Tifa! It's not fair! Can you PLEASE close the bar for one night!?" Marlene pouted, frowning at her reflection. Tifa was in the process of braiding the girls hair since she was going to be the famous princess Anna from frozen for Halloween.
"Yeah, and who's going to stop in for a drink on Halloween night anyways!?" Denzel added, trying to tie on his blue bandanna. As part of his ninja turtle costume.
"Trust me, Denzel. You'd be surprised!" Tifa replied with a small giggle. "Besides, Aerith has promised to take you and your friends!"
"But we want you to come too!" Marlene cried.
She crossed her arms and frowned even harder. Her eyebrows looking like they were about to fall into her eyes.
Denzel nodded in agreement. "It's bad enough that Cloud and Zack have to work! Now you too?"
"I'm sorry." Tifa said, now finished with Marlene's braids. "But I have to provide for our family, and the only way I can do that is to work! You understand?" She walked over to Denzel and helped tie his bandanna on his face.
"Yes, Tifa." The children replied, just as Aerith walked in.
The three were surprised to see the flower lady dressed in a floral night gown. She cradled a box of tissues in her arms and had a fleece blanket draped across her slim shoulders. Her face was paler than usual and little dark circles were around her eyes.
"Aerith, you don't look so good!" Tifa exclaimed.
"I'm not...I.." Aerith paused to cough into her arm for a brief moment. "I'm afraid I've came down with something..."
"Oh no! Now who will take us trick or treating!?" Marlene cried.
Aerith gave her a little smile. "I've invited Nanaki to."
"You did!?" The children exclaimed.
"You did!?" Tifa asked, raising a brow at her friend. "Is he okay with that?"
"Of course I am." A familiar deep voice replied.
Everyone turned around to see no other than Nanaki.
"Oh Nanaki, thank you! You have no idea how much this means to me!" Tifa replied, looking down at her children. "You two behave, and use your manners! Understand!?"
"YES!" The two children screamed, now jumping up and down.
"My pleasure. It will be fun looking after the little ones." The lion-like creature responded before casting his eyes on the two children. "Are you two ready?"
Marlene and Denzel nodded eagerly, grabbing their pumpkin themed Halloween baskets and racing each other out the door.
He looked back at a beaming Tifa.
"I'll have them back at eight. Don't work yourself too hard." He gave a nod to Aerith. "Feel better."
"Thank you!" The two females replied and waved after him. Watching the two dressed up children leave with their beastly escort.
"Thank you so much, Nanaki for taking us!" Denzel said, as the three of them walked to their friends house.
"Yeah! If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have been able to trick or treat at ALL this year!" Marlene added, walking with a skip in her step.
"It's no problem. Cloud and Tifa are great friend's of mine, and you two are great kids." Nanaki replied.
"Thank you! We try!" Marlene replied, giving the creature a couple gentle pats on his head.
"MARLENE! DENZEL! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!" Their two friends greeted, running over to them.
"Happy Halloween!" They replied.
"Are we ready to get a bunch of candy!?" Denzel asked his friend, who nodded.
"But we won't eat a piece until Tifa checks it when we get home!" Marlene added, taking her friends hand.
The boys sighed and rolled their eyes, causing Nanaki to smirk.
"It's only for your safety, boys. You'll be able to eat plenty of it once you get home!"
This was the first time Denzel and Marlene's friend noticed Nanaki.
"What is that!?" Denzel's friend exclaimed, looking at Nanaki with wide eyes behind his costume.
"It's our friend! Don't worry! He's really nice!" Marlene explained. "He is a lion, and a wolf, and um...something else!"
"Wow! He's so cute!" Marlene's friend exclaimed. She bent down to kiss Nanaki on the nose.
Nanaki cleared his throat.
"I'll just be looking after you guys tonight...what are you all suppose to be?" He looked at Marlene and her friend. "Princesses I assume?"
"Anna and Elsa!" Marlene and her friend replied.
"She's suppose to be my sister! Queen Elsa! And I'm her little sister, Princess Anna!" Marlene explained. "It's from the movie Frozen!"
"I see. Very nice." Nanaki replied, having no clue what Frozen is or about.
He then turned to look at Denzel and his friend. "Ninja's?"
"Ninja turtles!" Denzel's friend corrected, pointing to the soft padded turtle shell on his back.
"Yeah! I'm Leonardo, and he's Raph!" Denzel explained.
"Cool." Nanaki replied, also having no knowledge to ninja turtles. "Well, let's get trick or treating. I already see children out."
"YAY!" The four children screamed before hurrying off to their first building.
"Slow down, we must all stay together!" Nanaki replied, hurrying after the children.
Though he couldn't judge them too harshly since Halloween only came around once a year.
"Ready to call it a night?" Nanaki asked the two tired children, that were now walking like Zombies.
They have just dropped off their friends after hours of knocking on multiple doors and reviving delicious sweets.
"Yeah..." Marlene and Denzel replied.
"Alright, lets get back to the 7th Heaven and show Tifa how much candy you two got."
"Oh! I can't wait to count all of it!" Marlene said.
Denzel opened his mouth to reply, but instantly snapped it shut once he caught a glimpse of three boys walking towards them.
They were in middle school and always gave Denzel a hard time on the bus.
Nanaki noticed Denzel's expression and followed his gaze to the three boys. Marlene saw them too.
"Oh no! That's those mean boys who bully Denzel!" Marlene cried, as they got closer to them.
"Well, well, well! Look who it is!" One of the boys said, grinning down at them. He carried a pillowcase stuffed full of candy in it along with the other two boys.
"What are you two babies doing out so late? Isn't it passed your bedtime!?" Another boy said, using a baby voice as he spoke to them.
"Yeah! Aren't you afraid of all the monsters!?" The third one added.
"W-we were just going home!" Marlene whimpered, hugging Denzel close to her.
"Yeah!? Not until you've paid the toll!" The first one said with a snicker.
"What do you mean? We don't have any gil!" Denzel growled.
"YOU'RE CANDY! GIVE IT TO US, YOU BRATS!"
"THAT IS ENOUGH!" Nanaki growled, glaring up at the three boys who looked down at him in shock.
"W-What the?" One of the boys whimpered.
"A talking dog!" Another squeaked.
"It's just a prank! Probably some noob in a costume trying to scare us!" The last one reassured his friends, as he reached down to tug at Nanaki's fur. "Nice try pal!"
A deep monstrous roar rippled out from Nanaki's throat, causing the boy's hand to jerk away.
He snapped his sharp teeth at the boys as flames flashed in his mouth. "LEAVE. NOW!"
They didn't need to be told twice.
Marlene and Denzel laughed as they watched the three middle school boys running off into the night, screaming like three year old girls.
Nanaki smirked at the two children. "Come on, let's get you two home."
This was going to be a Halloween the children were going to remember for a LONG time. And maybe next Halloween, they'll asked Nanaki to bring them again.
