Summary: Darkness falls upon the earth as the angels begin their attacks. But when there is darkness there is also light as a new Magna Defender rises to fight the darkness and protect the earth

Chapter three
It was early morning in Tokyo-3 as Shinji was in a secluded area of the forest, dressed in a green tank top and a black sweats, and a sports duffle bag next to a tree. He was training to hone his skills in martial arts. He was taught how to fight at age five by Andros, Ashely, Leo and his brother, Mike, the previous Magna Defender. And it wasn't just them. He was also taught by other past Rangers, like Tommy Oliver, Jason Scott and Adam Park.
He took to it pretty well, despite how rigorous it was, especially from Jason, the original Red Ranger. So now, he was practicing an old, Shaolin training exercise taught by Adam. Shinji had been at it for the past couple of hours, never pausing for a break. He continued on for about ten minutes, and then paused for a break. Taking a bottle of water from his bag to drink, his Morpher beeped, getting his attention.
Answering it, he spoke, "Shinji here. What's up?"
("Shinji, this Kendrix I'm headed to Earth, towards your location now.")
"Kendrix, I don't mind the company really, but you being sent to babysit me really isn't necessary. I can handle myself just fine." Shinji stated.
("You may think that, but the rest of us don't. You may be the new Magna Defender, but you're still a kid Shinji.") Kendrix replied.
"Why couldn't they send Maya, Karone or Cassie? She's always been the fun one." Shinji groaned.
("Maya had to stay behind on Mirinoi to lead and protect her people since Jera passed away. And Cassie and Karone are on KO-35 and the rest of the Galaxy and Space Rangers have been clearing out remnants of the Alliance of Evil resistance, as well as Lord Zedd's old generals governing the worlds he conquered before he came to Earth. Zordon's energy wave didn't get all of them, you know that.")
"I know, Kendrix, I know."
("And don't forget, it was thanks to me and the scientists on Mirinoi, as well the spirit of the first Magna Defender that we were able to bring back his powers, as well as Torozord so that you became the new Defender in the first place."
"I know that, too. I was there when his spirit appeared on my 14th birthday." Shinji said, remembering that day.
("Besides, what are you so worried about? I'm not really a Ranger, anymore. I gave that power to Karone. I can still help from the sidelines.") Kendrix stated, and Shinji sighed and conceded.
"Point taken. I'll start looking for an abandoned building after school that we could use as a base. I scouted a few places on the outskirts of the city." Shinji informed her.
("I'll see you soon. Kendrix out.") Kendrix said, and ended communication.
"I still wish it was Cassie. She's way more fun then Kendrix." said Shinji, getting back to training.

(Later on at Tokyo-3 Junior High)
Shinji walked into class while everyone else was minding their own business, talking with other students. He merely took his seat in the middle, while the students paid him no mind. He took a book from his bag and began to read, oblivious to all. As such, he failed to notice the two boys staring at him.
"Hey, Toji you see that kid over there?" the glasses-wearing military otaku, Kensuke Aida, asked.
"Yeah, what about him?" the track suit-wearing jock, Toji Suzuhara, asked back.
"Don't you find it strange that he came here after the first robot battle and when that giant with the robotic bull showed up?"
"Could just be a coincidence. Besides, that red and black giant saved my sister's life. I wish knew who or what he was."
"My dad mentioned something about there being a group that was similar to him that were around in his day. Think he could be connected?"
"Maybe, maybe not. I'd leave it alone if I were you. Chances are we won't ever see him again." Toji replied, staring out the window.
Before long, the teacher arrived and the class rep Hikari Horaki began the "Stand! Bow! Sit!" routine and thus ushering another boring school day.
As class went on, Shinji's thoughts became consumed. When the spirit of the previous Magna Defender appeared to him, he brought with him not only the light to restore his powers to the physical plane, but a dire warning that Earth would be in terrible danger from within and without. And that he would be the one to save it. His musings were interrupted when he got a message from some curious girls. He could tell because he could hear them constantly glancing back and giggling. A bit annoyed, he opened it, and curiously read the topic: "Are you the pilot of that robot? Y/N?"
'I should've seen that coming,' thought Shinji, as he hit "no" and turned off the machine.

It was during break period the students took the time to socialize outside on the school grounds. Shinji himself was actually staring out into the city. Wondering how could he put his powers to good use, not just fighting the Angels but as both the Defender and an Eva pilot. He knew he would have some trouble balancing both. Shinji's musings were again interrupted when he notice the blue-haired girl, bandaged up and approaching him.
"You really should be in a hospital you know," said Shinji to her.
Blinking Rei merely responded, "There is an emergency situation. I'll report in."
More concerned than curious, he went after her as she walked away.

Angel battle)
The Angel had made its way into the city. Shinji was being sent up to face it head on. As he looked at the creature, he was reminded of Fishface that the first Magna Defender fought against and wondered if should he try and secretly summon Torozord with his morphers, which he snuck onboard.
But he didn't have time to contemplate, as the Angel charged at him, and he charged back, trying to wrestle it to the ground. He eventually gained ground and shoved it back, following it up with a swift, front kick, knocking it into some power lines, electrifying it.
It was then that heard Misato's voice over the Comm.
("Shinji, listen, you're not gonna beat it on with brute strength alone.")
"I know that. Strength is only part of it, the rest is strategy."
("I'm sending you up a rifle. Take it now!)
"With all due respect," though Shinji's tone was anything but respectful.
("That's an order!")
Begrudgingly, he complied, but planned to make it difficult for them later. He fired off some shots on the Angel, but the shots just bounced off its AT Field.
"I knew it wouldn't work," muttered Shinji, as he willed the Eva to dodge the tentacles.
("Move, Shinji!") ordered Misato to him.
"What do you think I'm doing?!"
Shinji ducked underneath, which prove to be a mistake as the one of the Angel's tentacles struck the back of Unit-01 hard, damaging the battery pack, lowering its power down to near 2%.
"Oh, not good," said Shinji, as everything blacked out and the Angel began to advance.
Shinji took out his morphers and strapped them on wrists
"Well, I can't say I wasn't ready for this. Magna Power Now!" cried Shinji as he inserted the key into the second morpher, once again changing him into the Magna Defender. He cut his way outta the plug and called forth his most trusted ally.
"Torozord charge!" he called.

(Nerv HQ)
Nerv looked on as the Angel stood over Unit-01 and proceeded to move forward, but stopped when it heard an animal roar of rage. The next thing it knew, it was being hoisted and tossed on the ground by two yellow horns. It turned to see a giant, metal bull roaring at it, getting ready to charge again.
"It's that giant, metal bull again. It's back!" exclaimed Misato, looking at the screen.
"Just who on Earth is controlling such a beast and, more importantly, how can we gain its technology?" wondered Ritsuko.
"Status on the pilot?" asked Misato.
"We can't get any readings! The Eva has completely shut down due to the damage it did to the battery." Maya informed.
"So right now, that giant bull is our only hope." said Makoto, looking at the screen.
"It would appear so." Misato replied, looking at the screen. 'Just who are you? And where did you come from?'

(Torozord vs. Angel)
Torozord faced off against the Angel, poised and ready for attack. It glanced down at its master, awaiting orders.
"You ready for this, Torozord? Magna Defender, transform!" shouted Shinji, as the Torozord shot beams from its eyes. Shinji grew giant-sized and produced two talons and attacked the Angel, cutting off its tentacles. The Angel cried in pain. It was about to retaliate until Torozord pushed it back into the electrified pond nearby, electrocuting it. That gave Shinji the opening he needed and struck the creature in its chest, cutting its core.
The Angel wiggled back and forth for a few moments, and then it fell down as it exploded into bits.
"Scratch one Angel, in your face Nerv." said Shinji, as he powered back down to normal and turned to his giant friend.
"Thanks a lot, buddy. You'd better get going. I'll visit you soon as I can." he said as the bull roared softly and released a body of mist to disappear from view. Shinji doubled back to the Eva to avoid suspicion and climbed back to the plug and played possum as he heard helicopters in the sky. Obviously, to retrieve the Eva.

(Later on that)
It was early evening, as Shinji snuck out the Nerv complex. He already gave his take on what happened in the battle, making up the story that when the Angel struck him, the feedback overwhelmed his systems, rendering him unconscious, which was an acceptable story. He was told by Ritsuko to stay in HQ, but having other plans, Shinji just got dressed in his regular attire and left. Now, he was again in the outskirts of the city he received a call from Kendrix, that she arrived in Tokyo-3 in the forest area. So now, he was looking for any sign of Kendrix's ship that landed here.
"Shinji, over here!" called a voice from the east.
"Kendrix." said Shinji, going off in that direction, passing through some of the denser trees.
It wasn't long before he spotted something that resembled a space shuttle near an abandoned, large, radio outpost. The shuttle door opened to reveal Kendrix, clad in her Terra venture uniform with a couple of suitcases in hand.
"Hey, Shinji, it's good to see you again." greeted Kendrix.
"It's good to see you, too. How are Leo and the others?" asked Shinji, taking her suitcase.
"They've been busy, with the Space Rangers fighting the Alliance of Evil resistance. Cassie, Andros and Ashley send their regards." replied Kendrix, stepping off the ship.
"I wish I were with them now. But I know I'm needed here, especially with what's happening."
"According to Cassie, you said there is this organization your father runs and he called you back to pilot something called an Eva and he throws you in it with no clear idea of what's going on, right?" Kendrix surmised, getting a nod from him.
"Right, adding to that, the scumbag went as far blackmailing me, by using someone, a girl, that was way too injured to even move, let alone fight." Shinji stated, making Kendrix 's eyes widened.
"That's insane and inhumane!" Kendrix exclaimed
"I know. I believe there's more to Nerv than meets the eye. I'll have to watch myself around them."
"We'll both be watching them, but for now, let's get settled into our new base." She said, gesturing to the large, abandoned radio outpost.
"We're setting up a base here? I saw a cave a mile back I thought we could use. It's inconspicuous." Shinji offered.
"I don't do well in caves, Shinji. Maya does, but not me. This is where we will be." Kendrix stated with finality, walking to into the abandoned outposts
"Yeah, Leo and Kai told me she could be stubborn sometimes I should have listened." Shinji muttered, following after her
End Chapter
End Notes: well here it is chapter four of Rise Of the Defender. Some readers were concerned that I used "it's Morphin time" instead of " Go Galactic" in chapter 2. Honestly It's Morphin Time sounded so much better in my head at the time. I hope this change of just Magna Power! helps and how did you like me bringing Kendrix former pink galaxy ranger? I'm going to be using Karone in my Martyr Hero story version but after looking through it and another author's "enlighten" honesty it was too flawed so I'm gonna need to redo the entire thing. If anyone wants to help feel free to ask. And for those waiting on AGP that's next on my list. I just need ideas and thank you TOAT for beta reading . So that's it the next chapter the Magna Defender gets formally introduced to Tokyo-3 and a new threat emerges. I'll give you a hint as to how I'm going do it: "There are No Strings on me" please R&R
