Chapter six Rewrite

"Naraha Town, Fukushima. It's a lot more desolate than I thought." Shinji commented, fully morphed into the Magna Defender, walking into the deserted rundown town. He didn't have to worry about radiation poisoning in this morphed form.

Years ago it was once a thriving, small-town community long before he was even born. After Second Impact occurred, it caused several, major tsunamis and earthquakes, hitting the power planets in the Fukushima prefecture hard.

Causing several major nuclear meltdowns and releasing toxic radiation into the air poisoning plants, animals and killing thousands of residents who lived on the prefectures and forcing the survivors to evacuate and move to the nearby cities across Japan.

From then on Naraha was declared uninhabitable by the Japanese government, and it became a ghost town, home to cockroaches, spiders, and other insects (A/N I hate cockroaches).

"Alright, Kendrix," said Shinji, tapping the side of his helmet. "Where should I start looking?"

("Try to find a quarantined storage facility. They might still have some radiation liquid canisters locked away. If they haven't disposed of any of it yet.") Kendrix replied.

"Right," he nodded.

With that, Shinji began his trek on ahead through the dead town. So far, all he could see were old, ruined cars, torn-up shops, bikes on the grounds, traffic lights and houses covered with moss, etc. A gentle breeze blew his way, making his cape flutter a bit.

Shinji saw up ahead a rundown storage warehouse. Getting up close, he noticed something peculiar. The steel door was torn off. Inspecting it further, he saw what appeared to be…

"Claw marks?" Shinji whispered, going inside.

Inside the black-armored Defender saw that there were hundreds of empty canisters, all littered on the ground, all emptied out. Not one trace of radiation liquid waste left.

"Kendrix, this place has been completely cleaned out. There's nothing here. It's all gone." Shinji reported.

("What? Who would be crazy enough to risk radiation poisoning to…")

"I don't think it was a 'who'," said Shinji cutting her off walking deeper into the compound and seeing giant holes going underground. "More like a 'what'."

He knelt down to examine them further, trying to find a lingering detail of what might have been there. The sound of canisters tipping over instantly put Shinji on alert.

Looking around, he saw nothing but a few cockroaches scurrying about.

"Something's here," Shinji said, looking around, walking into the center.

A green substance dripped from the ceiling onto Shinji's shoulder. He looked up to the rafters and something gray leaped from the ceiling and landed in front of him.

It was both metallic and organic fused together, it had a large spider head with a six, yellow eyes, spider legs on the back and it had three, clawed arms on both sides.

It stepped closer, revealing itself to be a large metal, man-sized spider creature on two legs.(Think Spider Man's Man-Spider but half robot)

"Rahhh!" it screeched loudly.

Wasting no time, the Magna Defender unsheathed his sword and readied himself for battle.

("Shinji, what's wrong?") Kendrix asked, hearing a scream.

"Something big, metal and ugly, that's what. Hi-Yah!" he answered, starting to attack.

The strange spider creature's claws extended and clashed with Shinji's sword. The young Defender quickly went on the offensive, clashing with high-impact slashes. He avoided claw strikes from the spider creature, slashing its exposed side, causing sparks to fly out the metal plating.

"Rarghh!" it screamed in pain, keeling over, then lunged at his attacker.

Shinji side-stepped it and cut off its middle, metallic arm, causing sparks to fly out.

"You're not so tough!"

Shinji clashed his sword with its remaining metal and organic, clawed arms, ducking and blocking its swipes. Flipping his sword into a reverse grip, the Defender slashed at the chest, exposing its source, which looked like a green, heart-shaped stone.

Deciding to end it here so he wouldn't waste any more time, Shinji rolled underneath its claw strike and vertically flash cut through its chest, ending its life.

The dead spider creature disintegrated turning into a puddle of metal components and green slime upon death, leaving only the metal components, which weren't very many.

("Shinji, what was it? A Sting Winger?") asked the former pink galaxy ranger over the communicator.

"No, not a Sting Winger. It was some sort of mutant, cyborg spider creature, unlike any mutant or alien bugs we've encountered in the past," the Defender answered, touching the goo.

"You know the problem is with most bugs or arachnids? If you see one, there's probably a whole lot more you're not seeing."

("Is there anything left of the creature?")

"Just some green goo and some metal parts. I'll bring you some back to the outpost after I'm done." Shinji replied, dipping his fingers in the goo again.

After surveying the area one last time, the Magna Defender walked out, unaware of purple eyes glaring at him from the shadows of the rafters.

(The Next Day)

Shinji was once again in the forest area above the city near a park, training in the way martial arts. Right now, he was practicing two of the various forms of martial arts Pakua and Hapkido, and he had been at it for three hours.

While he was training, his thoughts drifted to the spider creature he fought at Fukushima. Was it the result of some secret old military experiment gone horribly wrong? Or maybe some little spider was contaminated with active radiation?

'Or maybe its something else entirely.' Shinji thought, moving his body side to side in fluid motion stretching out as he breathed.

He kept at it by doing a wide range of side flip jumps to improve upon flexibility, followed by some forearm punches and spin and snap kicks.

Stopping to take a breather, he walked to the hillside, overlooking the park below.

Shinji found himself looking at a familiar sight: a pretty woman with short, brown hair, wearing a long, pink dress with a blue jacket and little boy with wild, dark hair, presumably her son, walking the pathway together, a mother and son.

Sighing he was about to turn around to get back to training, he heard a scream. Looking down, Shinji saw the same parent and child being surrounded by a group of thugs.

"Please, we don't want any trouble," said the woman, pushing her child behind her.

"Come on, babe, ditch the kid and come with us, and we'll show you a good time." said the middle thug while the others just cackled.

The woman just said nothing. She just took a few steps back with her child, only for two other thugs to cut off her escape.

"Just stay behind me, honey, it is going to be okay," she whispered to her obviously-frightened son as the thugs closed in.

Until…

"Let them pass in peace!" a voice echoed.

The source of the voice was Shinji Ikari, sliding down the hillside, wearing a sleeveless, black lightweight hoodie over his shirt, with the hood over his head.

"Let them pass in peace,"

"Mind your own business, punk!" snapped the middle thug.

"You got a death wish or something, kid?" asked another lanky thug.

Shinji merely smirked. He just kept walking into the center of them.

"A lot of people asked me the very same thing."

He stood in front of the mother and child protectively, his eyes darting from side to side, assessing the situation and smirked.

"Kid, you got five seconds to get the hell out of here before you get hurt," the thug said in a threatening tone while the other thugs closed in on him.

Then it began. The lanky one rushed Shinji from the side, but was met with a leg sweep, bringing him down. Back-elbowing another coming from behind, Shinji blocked an oncoming punch, grabbing and twisting his arm and stepping on his foot, causing him to cry out.

"Is your foot alright?" he asked, tossing him back into the lanky one.

Shinji spent the majority of the next few minutes countering and ducking the thugs' attacks, turning them against each other, as Jackie Chan would in one his movies, taking them down, with a variety of spin and front kicks.

The last thug left standing looked around to see his friends all on the ground, groaning in pain. Shinji merely stood there with a smug look on his face, and whispered,

"This is the part where you run away."

And so the thug did, leaving his friends on the ground, groaning in pain.

"Wow, look at him go. Two lessons here today, boys: 1. Never challenge anyone unless you know for sure you can beat them. And 2. Don't pick on others."

Shinji adjusted his hood, thankful that it hadn't fallen off during his little skirmish, and he headed up back into the hill, but was halted.

"Wait!" the woman said, stopping Shinji, who didn't turn around. "Thank you for helping my son and I. Who are you?"

The boy merely put down his hood, glancing back at her, and replied, "No one. I'm just a kid from Tokyo. Take care now."

Shinji ran up the hill to grab his things and head home, glancing down at the woman and child one more time before leaving, not noticing a certain, blue-haired girl watching from a distance, not just her but a certain military Otaku as well.

"Just who is this kid?" Kensuke asked in awe seeing what he just did

(Deep underground)

In a deep underground, metal complex, an assembly line was up and running, along with chemical growth technology, pumping toxic radiation into glass vials and tubes, from one of the large, darker louder machines.

Techno-organic (Machinery and living tissue) eggs were being produced by the dozens. And out of those eggs, techno-organic spiders and other insects were hatching.

Above the Cliffside stood a tall, dark figure, she wore a full, all-black, metallic armored bodysuit down to her feet.

She had dark, sharp claws, armored plating on her forearms, and six spider-like appendages on her back, her face was shaped, round, and feminine-like with dark purple eyes (think Airachnid from Transformers Prime with Kitana's MKX empress costume) with a three-horned crown on her head.

She stared at large computer monitors, all around the stone wall, showing images from around the world, thanks to earth's satellites, for being so easy to connect to.

"The time draws near, my children. The humans have been greatly reduced, and we will finish what this Second Impact started and wipe them all out!" the dark figure stated, her dark voice echoing throughout the cavern.

This garnered cheers from her spider creations that have already hatched.

"But first, I will need my own generals and the means to create them. Fortunately, the humans are foolish enough to make this task very simple for us," she said in a smooth voice, motioning for three of her spider creatures to come to her.

"Here is what we need, my children. These 'clinics' and 'laboratories' as the humans call them. They have materials vital to our growth, of our army and then we can begin the takeover of this planet."

The creatures hissed to each other, as if replying to one another, then hissed towards her.

"Yes, I am aware that the Magna Defender is here, but he is only one, and he cannot stop us." she replied. "So go now, my children, and if the Magna Defender stands in your way, destroy him!"

The spider creatures hissed at the figure and left the cavern.

"So it begins," she whispered, staring back at the monitors

(The next day in Tokyo-3)

The school bell rang, signaling the end of the day, and the students were released. Shinji jumped over the wall to heads towards the nearest market to pick up something to make dinner, though he had thought about bringing something to Kendrix so she could eat something other than instant food made from the colony on Mirinoi.

Reaching the market, he found that it was still pretty busy. He set his sights on the produce aisle for making dinner, and, to his luck, he found some good items at a good cost.

"That's lucky. Fresh produce at a good price." Shinji mused, picking up those and some instant items.

"It is, isn't it? These prices are hard to come by these days," said a cheery voice from behind.

Shinji glanced behind him and saw that it was his CO, Misato, with some food of her own and a case full of beer, which took up half the basket. He noted that she had more beer than food.

"Fancy seeing you here," she told him.

"Yeah, I was just was picking up a few things for dinner tonight. You?"

"Same for me. So, since we're both here, why don't we shop together? I can give you good tips." Misato offered.

"No thanks, I'm just fine with what I got," Shinji replied.

"Having instant food every day isn't very healthy for someone your age," she told him.

"Hey, I'll eat what I want to."

"You should listen to your superiors," she said, almost mock sternly.

At this, the boy chuckled.

"Oh, so you want to be my superior here, too? Yeah, that's not gonna sell," he said with a short laugh, walking to the register.

"Watch yourself, Third Child. I don't tolerate sarcasm or insubordination. Remember that." Misato warned him, but Shinji merely chuckled thinking she was joking, since they weren't at NERV at the moment.

BOOM!

A few blocks from the store, a large explosion rocked the entire area, causing the people to scatter outside.

This prompted Shinji to quickly drop his items and rush out of the store to see what happened. Sure enough, there was a large amount of smoke coming from the west, where some of the medical clinics and laboratories were located.

"Hey, what's the matter? You dropped your food and rushed out. That's not very polite." Misato chided, walking out after him, and she looked at the direction he was looking and saw the smoke coming from the next block over, all the cars stopped to look at the scene.

"That can't be good."

"No, it isn't," said Shinji, walking forward, only to have Misato's hand on his shoulder, halting him.

"What are you doing? You're not seriously going near there, are you?"

"No, I just want to get a closer look 'cause I like fire," he said sarcastically. "Of course I'm going over there. Some people may be in trouble."

"No, you're not. Let the fire department handle it. Remember Shinji, you're an Eva pilot you can't afford to put yourself in needless danger."

"You making it an order?"

Misato blinked at the question by answering, "No, but -"

"Good, 'cause I still would have disobeyed if it was," Shinji told her, running down the direction of the fire.

"Hey, get back here!"

The boy didn't hear her since he was already rushing at his top speed down to the next two blocks, making it down to the area.

Sure enough, he made it to the crowded area, even before the Fire Department came, but something quickly dawned on him.

"I can't morph here, its much too open," Shinji said looking around the area.

Well, morphed or not, Shinji was still the Magna Defender. Steeling himself, he rushed into the burning building, seeing a few clerics trapped under a wooden beam.

The boy wasted no time in moving it enough for them to get themselves up and run out the door. He went down a corridor and into a room where two nurses and an intern were huddled up,

"Come on," he ushered them on.

"Who are you?" the nurse asked him.

"Introductions later, move now!" Shinji exclaimed.

Wasting no time, the nurse and intern followed Shinji back the way he came.

It was still smokey, but they could make out fire trucks on the front. The trio went out the main entrance, assisted by the firefighters who were rushing in.

"Wait, there was one other doctor still inside!" the nurse panicked.

"I'll go get him," Shinji said, rushing back inside, covering the lower half of his face with a piece of his shirt.

Rushing back deeper into the building, debris started falling all around him as he searched the corridor. Sure enough, he found someone, coughing from the smoke inhalation around the corner.

It was an old man in his sixties, with a beard and gray hair, wearing a white lab coat. Not wasting another minute, Shinji hefted him up over his shoulder.

"Come on, let's get you outta here," Shinji said, and out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something moving in the smoke and the flames, he briefly stopped and glanced and in the smoke were a pair of deep purple eyes glaring at him before vanishing.

"What?!"

Boom!

He didn't have time to stand around and gawk as more of the building began to crumble.

Shinji rushed outside with the doctor on his shoulder. The pair made it to the outside safely as the fire crews arrived and went to work putting out the fire in full force.

"Thank you so much, young man," the doctor praised him as the paramedics got him onto the gurney.

Shinji merely nodded as he glanced back at the building, wondering what it was he saw in that smoke.

(Underground location)

"Yes, yes. Well done my children." the dark figure praised "This is the start."

The figure walked over to the machines and poured multi-colored glass containers and began pumping them through the machines, then the figure went over to another corner and picked up various insects, such as a stag beetle, a yellow jacket, a tarantula, and a scorpion.

They were placed underneath the glass containers, each colored liquid was poured onto the insects causing them to glow and grow, then the dark figure pulled a lever down and toxic radiation and stolen growth hormone chemicals began to pour down upon them.

It wasn't long until one of them specifically the beetle emerged from the goo enlarged, spiked from top to bottom, completely mutated

Then the second one to emerge was another spider, mostly organic but that would change soon the figure gleefully thought.

Third came the tarantula, literally walking out on two legs.

Then the last one the yellow jacket emerged last, with several stingers on its shoulders, and enlarged wings on its back.

"RARGGH!" all three roared as they all rose up

"Rise my creations, look upon me, know the name of your creator, Deceptica!" she announced her voice echoing throughout the cavern

( Later on at The Outpost)

"Techno-organic?!" Shinji gasped "Are you serious?!"

"Well, something similar to techno-organic to be exact. That's what I've been able to determine from these remains you brought me." Kendrix said sitting at the examination table.

"Earth lacks the technology to produce techno-organic material. Only Eltar Sentai 3, and Gamma 4, were capable of producing techno-organic materials as far as we know."

True, but with the right combination of compatible organic chemicals and metal components, there's a good chance they could be made here too."

"So we can guess what became of all that radiation that was just abandoned since it was just easy pickings, but the question remains just who or what could have taken all of it?" Shinji said

Kendrix rolled her chair back to her main computer work station, and pulled up the map of pulled up data logs on another screen

"I dug into the Japanese government data logs and from what I've read, all that nuclear waste you found was supposed to be disposed of years ago."

"Didn't they have procedures for proper radiation waste disposal? Cause I don't think dumping it all in a giant hole in ground qualifies as proper disposal. More on the grounds of illegal dumping. " the boy said folding his arms

"My guess is that the radiation in the air was too toxic for them to approach, so officials just abandoned the site and covered it up." said the Terra Venture tech expert.

"Makes sense, but that still doesn't explain how-"

Ring Ring!

The alarms suddenly came to life, Kendrix search the cause for the disturbance, and sure enough, she found several strange energy signatures, similar to the Sting Wingers.

"What's wrong?" Shinji asked

"I'm picking up moving energy signatures, in downtown Tokyo- 2 at one of the university labs," Kendrix replied. "You better get down there."

"Right, Magna Power now!" Shinji shouted morphing into the Magna Defender, and vanished in a flash

(Downtown Tokyo-2 )

Shinji appeared in the midst of people running in fear, and the reason for it was a group of man-sized half metal, half organic spider mutants tearing through the campus building labs.

People ran in fear as the spiders creatures, tore through the building, destroying everything in sight. Not only that but they seemed to be collecting various chemicals, machinery, bringing them down into a hole in the ground, inside the campus building

"Oh great, more spider mutants," Shinji said drawing his sword, "Fun's over uglies!"

They turned their attention towards the defender and attacked, Shinji quickly went on the offensive, rushing towards them without fear, striking rapidly, horizontally slashing two, side kicking one back elbowing the other from behind before impaling it.

The metal spider creatures opened their mouths, and lasers shot out at the Magna Defender, forcing him to roll on to the ground

"Alright, they want to play it that way, Magna Blaster!"

Shinji shifted his sword to blaster mode with his sheathe, and began to fire rapidly, hitting a few of them, the others attacked close range which Shinji easily picked off, Then Shinji re-shifted his sword against the remaining spiders.

"Let's end this, Hi-Yah!" he yelled leaping into the air,

Shinji front flipped a total of three times, as his sword gathered energy, and slashed down vertically, cutting them all down, completely destroying the mutant metal spiders.

Before the defender could breathe a sigh of relief and sheathe his sword, he was blasted from behind,

"Argh!" Shinji cried in rolling on to his side "What just hit me?"

He looked up to see a large metallic blue armored figure walking slowly towards him the figure had sharp pointy claws with for hands thick forearms a somewhat thin metallic thorax, a shell on his back with wings underneath on the figures head was a single stag beetle horn with two yellow glowing eyes, he looked like some sort giant robot beetle.

Shinji got back to his feet, to face off against this newcomer.

("Shinji are you alright?! what happened?!) Kendrix cried over the communicator

"Who are you?! What are you?!" the Defender demanded and got into a Djem so stance (Anakin and Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber form from Star Wars).

" I am Steelsting and I am your destruction!" the metal figure declared

End Chapter

End Notes: Here is chapter six, the build-up to the big bad and her henchmen. The name Deceptica is based off Decepticons From Transformers, and since I kind of suck at descriptions, try thinking of her as a mixture of Airachnid from Transformers Prime and Kitana's Empress Costume from MKX with spider legs or just a mini version of Airachnid herself if it helps, of course, I could go with something else. Not all the monsters will be insect-based, some will be like the monsters from MMPR, Zeo In Space, and Lost Galaxy. Expect a couple more lightsaber forms from Star Wars cause I was watching Star Wars when I wrote this up, so I just put it in for kicks. Now the next chapter will be longer and have more of a ranger-esq feel to it as Shinji battles one of Deceptica's new monsters and possibly meets Deceptica herself and for the record, Kendrix still doesn't know what happened when she put in her program. So thank you TOAT for beta reading, please leave a review and any suggestions, and may the power protect you.
