Chapter 44: Through the Flames
*****Where We Left Off*****
Logan watched Dick get shot in horror. "No!" he shouted as Dick fell to the ground. Logan managed to break his fall, catching him in his arms.
A stunned Dick looked up at Logan, a look of surprise on his face. "He shot me, Logan," Dick said.
"Now, that was fun!" Dan said with pleasure. He pulled out a lighter and lit it. "This will be even more fun!" He threw the flame onto the gasoline he'd poured around Keith. Flames erupted. Logan looked on with growing panic and fear. Desire to save his father-in-law warred with his devotion to Dick. His best friend would bleed to death if he moved from his side. Of course, Dan might decide to shoot him next. As he considered, he heard footsteps approaching. Since Dan now had his gun pointed directly at him, he didn't dare look to see who else was joining the party.
"Not as fun as this will be," Sebastian said, stepping into the warehouse, a cold look of fury on his face. He held a gun in his hand pointed at Dan. Nick was with him and also had a gun pointed at Dan. Before Dan could react, Sebastian shot him three times in his chest. The bullets knocked him to the ground.
Nick moved quickly to Dick's side.
"You think you've won," Dan gasped. "You think killing me ends this?" He laughed and choked on blood.
Sebastian moved toward him. Standing over his prone form, he pointed the gun at his head. "It ends you. You killed my godson, so now you're dead," he said, shooting him in the head.
"We called for an ambulance and police as soon as we heard the gunshot," Nick said.
"Someone going to untie me?" Keith asked. There was a ring of fire around him.
Sebastian looked around the warehouse for something to put out the flame. Not seeing anything, he took off his dress jacket and began beating the flames down. When he'd made a window, he jumped through it to Keith.
"How did you find us?" Keith asked as Sebastian patted down Keith's pockets for the key to the handcuffs.
"I've been following that serpent in your garden since I came to town. Me or Nick have kept tabs on him. I knew he was bad," Sebastian said as he released Keith.
The two men worked to stomp out the flames. Luckily, there hadn't been any debris lying around to catch fire yet. A sound of ambulance could be heard. Keith went to Logan's side that they were working to keep Dick from bleeding to death.
Logan was terrified that Dick was going to die in his arms. "Hang in there, buddy. The ambulance is almost here," Logan said to him.
"Am I gonna die?" Dick asked fearfully. The pain was really bad—like his heart attack. He looked down and saw so much blood. As the ambulance sirens became louder, he realized that the pain was beginning to fade. Everything was feeling fuzzy.
"No! You don't get to die on me!" Logan exclaimed, trying to beat back the terror. Fortunately, the ambulance was there. Logan watched them load Dick onto the stretcher. "I'm going with him," he insisted.
"I'll call Mac and Veronica," Keith said to him. As soon as Logan got into the ambulance with Dick, Keith pulled out his phone. He pushed number two on his speed dial.
"Dad? Did you get a break in the case?" Veronica answered.
Taking a deep breath, he decided to be direct. "Yes. Dan Lamb is the killer. He tried to set me on fire, shot Sacks, and Dick. Dick is on his way to the hospital," Keith told her.
"What?" Veronica asked, jumping up. Mac was sitting on the couch next to her and looked up in alarm.
"Dick took a shot to the stomach," Keith said. "Veronica, it's bad. You and Mac need to meet them at the hospital. Logan rode with Dick."
"Oh, God! We'll meet them there," Veronica said, hanging up. She turned to Mac. "Dan shot Sacks and Dick. They're on the way to the hospital."
Mac fell back onto the couch. "Why would Dan shoot Dick? Is he okay?" she asked, her mind spinning. This had to be a bad dream.
"I don't know. Dad just said it's bad. We need to go," Veronica said, reaching for her keys. She dialed Wallace.
"Wallace, Dick's on his way to the hospital. He's been shot. Will you call everyone? I'm driving Mac there now," Veronica said as she took Mac's hand and walked her to the door.
"You're joking, right? Why would someone shoot Dick?" Wallace asked. He looked over at Thea. They were in the kitchen at Dick's house working on homework.
"My dad said it was Dan Lamb. He's the killer," Veronica shared. "Meet us at the hospital after you call everyone. Call Daisy. She can call Chip. He'll call Dick's other friends in the fraternity."
She hung up without saying goodbye. Wallace sat there stunned.
"What happened to Dick? He was shot? Is he okay?" Thea asked in concern.
"She said it was bad, and it was Dan Lamb," Wallace said, feeling confused.
"The Hearst security guy? Didn't he save Mac from that guy?" Thea asked in dismay.
"Yea. Maybe that's why he did. To knock off suspicion," Wallace murmured, his mind racing. "I got to call Weevil."
He called Weevil, who was at his new temporary home with Jazmin, Jason, and Daisy. Daisy said she'd call her brother, so the word would be spread.
Mac and Veronica made it to the hospital. Both were anxious for news. Keith was there with Sebastian and Nick. Mac went to find a doctor.
"What the hell's going on?" Veronica asked her dad.
"It was Dan all along," Keith said grimly. "He lured me to that warehouse, hoping to kill you in front of me. Thank God you listened to me for once and stayed home."
"Yeah, and sent Dick and Logan in danger in my place," Veronica said sourly.
"It's not like you could've known. I sure didn't," Keith said bitterly. He glanced at Sebastian. "Luckily, Sebastian's scumbag radar is better than mine. He'd been following Dan since he returned from Joseph's funeral."
"I recognized a jackal," Sebastian said grimly. "I recognized David and did nothing. I will not make that mistake again. I'm just glad I got to kill that bastard."
"So he's dead? It's over?" Veronica asked anxiously.
"He's dead. But not before shooting Sacks and Dick," Keith said.
Veronica felt relief course through her. "Has the doctor said anything? How are they? Where's Logan?" she asked.
"Sacks is dead," Keith said flatly. "He killed him and then tried to set me on fire. He was about to shoot Logan when Sebastian shot him."
Veronica looked at Sebastian, overcome by the news as her heart hurt for the loss of her dad's long time deputy and friend. Sacks was dead, and Logan had almost been taken from her. She went to Sebastian and hugged him, resting her head on his chest. "Thank you. I don't ever want to be a widow," she said.
"They won't tell me anything!" an upset Mac cried as she came back into the ER waiting room. Logan was with her having met her in the ER room.
"I tried to find out," Logan said grimly. "All they would tell me was he was going directly to surgery. He lost a lot of blood."
"He's tough. He'll be okay," Veronica said, trying to reassure her. She knew exactly how Mac felt. Logan's own brush with a gunshot wound was still one of the worst memories of his life.
Mac sat down in one of the nearby chairs, unable to process what was happening. Dick may die. First, he'd had a heart attack. Now he'd been shot. She could lose him before their life together had really begun. Tears were streaming down her face without her realizing it until Veronica handed her a tissue. She wiped her eyes. "I guess I should call his parents," she said.
"Why don't you let me do that? Do you have their numbers?" Veronica suggested.
Mac handed Veronica her cell phone. "It's under D for Dick's Parents," she said.
While Veronica was trying to get a hold of his parents in the corner of the room, the rest of their friends showed up. Jazmin and Daisy immediately went to Mac's side. Logan told them what happened while Nick filled in Weevil and Jason.
As soon as Logan finished his summary, Duncan arrived with Lily. "I couldn't get a hold of our nanny. My parents were out of town," he said apologetically.
Lily frowned at all the upset people. She went to Mac and crawled into her lap. "Don't cry, Mackie. Dickie is like a superhero. Bad guys never beat superheroes," Lily told her. Dick was larger than life to her, second only to her Daddy. She couldn't fathom anything keeping him down for long.
Mac hugged the young girl to her, touched by her faith. "I hope you're right, sweetie," she said.
Lily nodded wisely. "Oh, I am," she said confidently. "Remember when his heart was hurt? It got better. He'll get better from this, too."
Duncan didn't think it was possible to love his daughter more than he already did, but in that moment, he felt his heart swell with pride. "You're absolutely right, baby. He's going to be fine," he told her. Mac gave him a grateful look.
A short time later, Chip and several fraternity brothers showed up. All were upset. They were angry, too.
"Who did this?" Chip demanded.
"It's Dan Lamb, Hearst's head of security. He's the serial killer," Daisy explained.
Various degrees of shock and outrage could be heard. Chip turned to Keith. "Did you arrest him?" he asked.
"While attempting to shoot Logan, he was killed," Keith informed them. Even though Sebastian shooting him again in the head was questionable, Keith wasn't about to paint any picture that'd make Dan a victim or Sebastian a murderer. The Italian had saved too many lives.
"Damn, Logan. How many lives do you got?" one of Dick's frat brothers asked.
"As many as it takes," Logan said with a shrug.
Another hour went by before a doctor finally came in to give them news. Everyone stood.
"Is he okay?" Mac asked worriedly.
"Are you family?" the doctor asked.
"I'm his girlfriend. His parents are out of state," Mac said. She cast an appealing glance at Veronica.
Keith spoke. "Doctor, we're all family here. Please tell us how he's doing," he said.
"Well, Sheriff, he's one lucky fella," the doctor said with a smile. "Normally, gut shots are deadly. However, this bullet managed not to hit any major organs. His loss of blood worried me for a bit, but he's strong and held on."
Mac sagged against Logan, who had put his arm around her as soon as they all stood. Veronica held his other hand. His fraternity brothers broke out in cheers, everyone's relief palpable.
"He had heart issues a few months ago. It's not causing any problems?" Mac asked anxiously.
"No. His heart has remained strong," the doctor said.
"Can I see him?" Mac asked anxiously.
"He's in recovery. Then they'll move him to ICU for several hours at least. Barring now complications, he should have his own room by morning," the doctor said.
"Thank you," Mac said.
When he left, she hugged Veronica. "Will you come with me to ICU?" she asked.
"Of course," Veronica said. She turned to Logan. "I'll let you know when he's moved up there."
Logan nodded. "I want to see Dickie, too!" Lily wailed, pulling on her dad's hand.
Duncan doesn't know how scary looking Dick would be, so he looked to Keith for help. Keith immediately understood.
"Lily, I was hoping you'd go with me to give Alicia the news that Dick's going to be okay? You know how much she loves the big goof," Keith said, holding out his hand to her.
Lily giggled. "He is a big goof!" she agreed. She looked up at Duncan. "Can I, Daddy? Darrel and I can make Dick a Get-Well card!"
"That sounds like a good idea. Parker really liked the one you made her," Duncan said, smiling down at her.
"And it made her better! She's not here no more!" Lilly said with a proud grin.
"Very true. I'll come get you soon," Duncan told her.
"Give Dickie a kiss for me!" Lily ordered.
"Okay," Duncan said. "Thanks, Keith."
"No, problem. I have to notify Sack's family," Keith said grimly.
"I can't believe he's gone. Sacks was my hero when I was young. Once he let me use his Taser on that mean dog who terrorized Back Up when he was a pup," Veronica shared.
"What?" Keith demanded. Then he shook his head. What did that matter now? None of his deputies had ever been good at saying no to Veronica. "Never mind. Call me if there's any change." He kissed Veronica's cheek before leaving.
An hour later, Mac and Logan were in ICU where they had taken Dick. They hoped he'd only be there a night, but they wanted to monitor him closely. His heart history made him a high risk for blood clots.
When Dick opened his eyes, he saw Logan and Mac. "Dudes. I got shot!" he said.
Logan smiled. "I was there, remember?" he said.
Mac squeezed his hand. "You scared me half to death! Don't go getting shot again!" she ordered.
"I can promise you that it won't be in my plans," Dick said sheepishly. "But I'm okay?"
"Yep. The bullet missed all vital organs," Mac assured him.
"That's a relief," Dick said. Then he grimaced. "I hurt all over. You sure I'm going to be okay?"
"Yes. I'll see to it," Mac vowed, kissing his cheek. Less than four months ago, she'd almost lost Dick to a heart attack and now this. It was too much.
Since ICU didn't allow overnight visitors, all Dick's friends took turns seeing him. They only stayed a minute. Nick and Sebastian were the last ones to visit before visiting hours were up. It was a good thing there wasn't anyone else to see him. He was wiped. Dick was a bit surprised that they wanted to see him.
"My heroes!" Dick said with a grin. He had heard from everyone that they had been the ones to save them.
"How are you feeling?" Nick asked.
"Like I've been shot," Dick said with a smirk.
"It's not pleasant," Sebastian said knowingly.
"You've been shot before?" Dick asked.
"I was in the wrong place at the wrong time as a young man—kind of like you were today," Sebastian said.
"You don't have to worry about Lamb. He's dead," Nick told him.
"That's a relief. Why was he trying to kill us anyway?" Dick wondered.
"I think we'll be a while sorting that one out," Sebastian said. "Keith said he was on a revenge quest for his late brother's death. He blamed Keith. He hated Veronica for all the crap she put him through while he was sheriff."
"Some people just need to get over themselves," Dick said in disgust. "I didn't even think about going after the family of that perv that ruined my brother. Gia's mom wasn't to blame or the other Shark coach."
"That's 'cause you're not crazy," Nick said.
"I'm not so sure about that," Mac said from the doorway. She smiled at them. "Visiting hours are almost over, and I wanted to say goodnight to Dick."
"That's our cue," Nick said. "Feel better."
"Take care," Sebastian said.
Mac said goodnight to them. Then she sat down in the vacant chair, reaching for his hand. "I think your parents will be here tomorrow," she said.
Dick groaned. "Both of them? Shoot me now!" he complained.
Mac looked at him in shock. Then her face crumpled, and she started crying. Dick had seen her cry before but not like this. This was great big heart wrenching sobs. He was hooked up to too many wires to reach out for her like he wanted to. "I'm sorry. I was joking," he said. "Don't cry!"
"How can you make jokes? You could be dead!" she sobbed, using her shirt to wipe her eyes.
"I'm sorry, babe. You know I'd never do anything to upset you," Dick said with genuine regret.
"I know. I don't blame you. It just upsets me to see you like this. To know you could've been taken from me yet again," Mac said. "Our life together has barely began. I don't want to ever lose you."
"You won't. I promise," Dick said. "Come here on this side, so I can hold you."
Mac moved to the other side of the bed and crawled in next to him, being careful of the monitoring equipment. She laid her head down on his shoulder. They didn't speak as they took comfort in each other's presence. Then Mac said, "I'm not moving back to the house. I don't want to be away from you ever. Not even for a day."
Dick grinned. "Good. I don't want you to go anywhere anyway," he said. At least something good had come from his bullet wound.
******The Next Day******
Veronica woke up abruptly. Her dreams were filled with horrific images of death and losing Logan and her dad in a fire. Breathing heavily, she looked over at Logan, who was safe and sound in her bed. She got out of bed and went across the hall to Richie's room. It was lifeless without the little guy. Trina only took necessities and some of her favorite outfits. She wanted an excuse to buy him new clothes, and she wanted her brother's house to have Richie's things for when they visited. Eventually, they'd begin filling it with things for the baby, too.
Veronica went over to the rocking chair and picked up the stuffed bunny Dick had bought him. Richie was gone, and she missed him so much. She tried to keep busy and not think about it, but then she'd video chat with Trina and see his sweet face. Not being able to kiss his chubby cheeks, though, made things hard.
All those women were killed because of her. She'd enjoyed making Sheriff Lamb's life miserable because he'd been so cruel to her after her rape. However, if she had known what it would lead to, she would've done things differently. Parker was in a wheel chair. Joseph and Sacks were dead. Dick nearly died. What kind of world was she bringing her unborn child into? Holding the stuffed bunny, she cried.
A short time later, Logan stirred and notice the space next to him was empty. Concerned, he got up to look for his wife. When he found her crying in Richie's room, he knelt down at her feet.
"Snookums, don't cry. You know I hate it when you cry," Logan said, rubbing her thigh. She put down the stuffed animal and threw herself in his arms.
"It's my fault, Logan. They're all dead because of me," she sobbed.
Logan held her, feeling helpless. "Dan is a maniac. It's not your fault, Veronica. Any more than it was my fault that Lilly died or Dick's fault that Cassidy did. You did nothing wrong. People are evil and hate. When you're good, they hate you even more," Logan told her. He lifted her chin up. "You are the best person I've ever known." He stood up, pulling her to her feet. Then he picked her up, holding her in his arms.
Veronica tried to stop her tears, but her pregnancy hormones made her hormonal. "I think you might be a little biased," she said with a sniff.
Logan smiled tenderly at her as he carried back to their room. "Maybe, but I know a lot of people that would agree with me," he said as he placed her carefully on the bed.
Veronica looked up at him, her heart filled with love for this man. He was her port in the storm. Always. Her hand moved to his cheek. "I love you," she said.
"And I love you and our baby," he said, putting his hand over her stomach. "We're going to get through this."
Veronica nodded, and leaned her head against him. As long as she had him, she knew that he could get through anything.
*****The Sinclairs*****
Lauren had been extremely upset to hear about Dick's new hospital stay. Even though it was good that the killer was dead, she was sickened and horrified that another awful thing had hit someone she cared about. She and her mother and went to see Dick that morning. He was moved out of ICU, so he was doing well. It was reassuring, but she could tell that Mac was more fragile than Lauren had ever seen her.
Dick, though, had been full of questions about the dance that night. Lauren in no way felt like going to a dance. However, Dick was so excited that Brad had asked her that she didn't have the heart to cancel or tell Dick she wasn't going.
So there she was dressed in the last formal dress Madison had helped her pick out. She didn't buy a new dress because she wanted to honor her sister's memory with the last one she'd help her pick out. It was dark purple with a short skirt that stopped mid-thigh. It had a somewhat low neckline and hugged her figure very well. She had argued with Madison about buying it. It seemed way too revealing for Lauren's taste. Madison had laughed and said it was time she started dressing like the sixteen-year-old she was. If she didn't want people to always think of her as the cancer chick, she needed to give them something else to look at when they saw her. Lauren had given in reluctantly and hid the dress in the back of her closet.
Her mother had fixed her hair for her, pulling it up in a sleek French twist. The diamond tear drop necklace Madison had received for Christmas was around her neck. Her mom had told her that she knew Madison would want her to have her jewelry. It made Lauren feel close to wear something of her sister's.
When Brad came to pick her up, he stared at her in surprise. She looked so grown up and aloof—utterly stunning. "You look incredible," he told her.
She gave him a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Thanks. You look good, too," she told him. He always did. Tonight, however, his appearance barely registered.
He handed her the wrist corsage he'd bought. Then he helped her put it on her wrist. It made a real smile appear on her face. She liked flowers. Brad was relieved to see that he could still enjoy something.
Marilyn took some photos before they left. As they drove to the school, Brad glanced over at her in concern. Lauren was very quiet, staring out the passenger side window. They hadn't rented the limo because after the events of yesterday neither Ryan nor Lauren wanted a spectacle. Brad knew neither were really into even going to the dance. His two closest friends seemed to be surrounded by tragedy. Ryan really liked his sister's boyfriend, so having him shot by the same man they now knew killed Madison had understandably upset him.
"Are you okay?" Brad asked her.
"I don't think I'll be very good company tonight. I'm not really in the mood for a dance," Lauren said apologetically.
"I think it could be good to get your mind off of things," Brad said.
"Maybe," she said.
When they arrived at the school, Brad surprised her by taking her hand and walking into the school still holding it. They posed for the couple's picture in the entrance way with the school's photographer.
"How about we get the first dance over with," Brad said, smiling at her.
Lauren decided to allow herself one night to forget the ugliness that seemed to surround her. She'd try to enjoy herself for Dick and for her sister.
She danced.
*****Two Days Later*****
Mac had a headache. She'd been forced to play referee between Dick's mom and dad since they'd arrived Saturday night a few hours apart. Luckily, his mom was staying at a hotel. Dick liked that they cared, but Mac could tell that the strain of their presence was getting to him.
Finally, Mac had enough. "Excuse me. Will you two come out in the hall?" she asked his parents.
Dick was too tired to even care that Mac was dealing with his parents alone. She was tough enough to handle them.
Mac faced the two parents. "Listen. I know you both care about Dick, but he doesn't need you fighting and arguing about things right now. He's going home today, and he needs peace and quiet. The best thing for you both to do is to back off and give him space," she said.
Dick Sr. nodded. "You're right. I had to cancel some meetings to come back to town, so I could get out of his hair and attend to business," he said.
"Yes, we know your work is more important than your only remaining son," Dick's mom said bitterly.
Mac glared at her. "Stop! This is exactly what I'm talking about! Neither one of you did enough for either of your sons, so get over yourselves! What matters is now. Dick is happy you're here for him, but he needs you to get along. If you can't, coordinate your visits at different times, please," Mac said firmly. Then she walked back into the room, dismissing them both.
"Can you believe she talked to us like that?" Betina said in outrage.
"I like her. She's got spunk. She's turned our son into a fine man," Dick's dad replied. "And she's not wrong. Dick deserves more from us. He's been through enough."
She frowned, not liking to concede anything to her ex. "I want to have breakfast with him tomorrow morning. Maybe you cannot be around?" she suggested.
He nodded. "That's fine. We can get along if we try. He's the only good thing we've ever done," Dick Sr. said. "Think of the grandchildren!"
Her eyes widened in surprise. "She's pregnant?" she gasped.
"No. But she will be one day," Dick Sr. said with a grin. "The woman is brilliant and has a better head for business than Dick. The children they create will be incredible!"
Mac, not knowing her future in-laws were planning her progeny out in the hall, smiled at Dick. "I think I made it clear. They will behave or leave town," she shared.
Dick grinned. "My hero!" he exclaimed. "Come here and give me a kiss!"
Mac went to the bed he was sitting sideways on. He was dressed and ready to be discharged. Dick pulled her to him, kissing her softly. "I have the best girlfriend in the world," he said after he broke it off.
"You're not so bad yourself," she said fondly.
"Where's all our friends?" Dick asked.
"I didn't want them crowding you. Wallace and Weevil will be at the house when we get there. I'm sure Thea will be there. She and Wallace got all your class nodes from all your frat boys," Mac shared.
"You know the guys do that for me. She didn't have to do anything," Dick said.
"Thea offered to read all the notes and compile the best summary possible," Mac said with a grin. "And since she's smarter than even me, I figured that it would be better than just a bunch of notes you can barely decipher."
"I have the best friends," Dick said happily.
"You do," Mac agreed.
The nurse arrived pushing a wheelchair. "Are you ready to leave?" she asked.
Dick hopped off the bed. "So ready!" he enthused.
When they made it to his house, several cars were parked. "Don't worry. All our friends know you are going straight to bed," Mac said.
Logan, Veronica, and Duncan were waiting at the door to greet them. He was walking slowly up the walk and waved. Lily ran out to him. "Careful!" Duncan called out.
Lily stopped and looked up at Dick in concern. "Are you okay? Can I hug you?" she asked.
Duncan moved and picked her up. "Why don't you give him a kiss instead? Kisses are better than hugs anyway. Then you won't have to worry about jarring his owie," Duncan said wisely.
Lily very cautiously kissed both Dick's cheeks and grinned. "I told Mackie you'd be okay. The bad guys never win!" she exclaimed brightly.
Logan hugged his wife. This time they'd won, but the cost had been incredibly high. He vowed to not let down his guard. His family meant everything to him, and he'd move heaven and earth to keep them safe and happy.
Mac led Dick inside where the twins and Dick's roommates were waiting along with Chip and Daisy. Everyone just wanted to see Dick safely home. Dick insisted on sitting down on his couch and visiting a few minutes. "I don't think I can make it up those stairs anyway, babe," Dick said.
"Well, I'm sure between all us guys we can carry you," Logan said with a smirk.
Lily's presence kept Dick from saying what he really thought about that suggestion.
"How's Parker?" Dick asked Duncan.
"She's getting better every day. They hope to have her on crutches by the end of the week. Much of her sensation has returned," Duncan happily shared.
"That's great, dude," Dick said, pleased. Each victory they made against the man who sought to destroy them made everything better.
"The university is getting sued," Chip shared. "The girls' parents are suing the school for hiring the killer as their head of security."
"Can't blame them for that," Weevil said.
"Yeah, but he was too good at lying. I don't think the Dean should be held responsible," Veronica said. "They could very well sue me and Dad next since we were ultimately the target."
"That's not happening!" Wallace exclaimed, angry at the thought. "You were victims. In many ways, the entire school was. None of us could know. Just like I couldn't with David." It'd taken him a while to stop blaming himself. Dr. Addison had helped with that. Thea squeezed his hand in approval but said nothing.
"That's true," Jazmin agreed. "Never would I have believed what David as capable of. People sometimes hide the evil inside."
"Don't I know it," Logan agreed.
Dick looked at Mac. "So tell us what went down at the school dance? Did Brad finally make his move?" he asked eagerly.
Mac smiled. "Well, according to Lauren, it was quite an exciting night…"
******Across Town******
Stewart Manning watched the morning news. "That damn fool! He should've listened!" He had told Dan that they had to keep working together. Duncan had to be destroyed along with the Mars. He hated Veronica Mars with every fiber of his being. After all, it was her face he pictured as he killed that Italian's girlfriend. However, she wasn't any more to blame than Duncan Kane. He wasn't done making them pay by a long shot. This wasn't over. He would wait. He would wait, and he would plan.
Veronica Mars and Duncan Kane would wish they were never born.
*****The End*****
Nope, Dan wasn't working alone. That's why he didn't really fit all the kills. The final story is called "LoVe Suvives" and wraps up the series and killer storyline. This was the original final chapter, but then I added an Epilogue.
The companion piece "The Dance" is posted, so please check it out. It focuses on the high school characters only.
