Part 1- A New Moon Cancer?

A/N: This story takes place during the Lostbelt arc.

*Novum Chaldea, Wandering Sea*

Haruhi was mildly depressed as she and the other Masters walked to the Summoning Chamber. The third Lostbelt had been successfully resolved, but had ended on a bittersweet note for all involved, having been forced to essentially mercy-kill Akuta Hinato (aka Yu Mei-ren) after her lover Xiang Yu had perished fighting Chaldea.

"It's too bad," Haruhi's fellow Master Riyo Gudako spoke up. "That Lostbelt was a lot nicer than the last two- at least it had really nice weather, instead of eternal winter or flames of that Sur-tur or Ragna-Rock or whatever."

"Well, it's Difference Depth was almost nonexistent compared to the last two as well," Ritsuka noted. "But it was still a dead-end for history, since there was no progress, in culture or technology..." Looking over at Haruhi, he then said, "At least we managed to save some of Koizumi-san's fellow espers, right?"

"Yeah, that's one silver lining," Haruhi nodded. When the bleaching of Earth had begun, several espers of the Agency had managed to escape into closed space for a time... but eventually food ran short, forcing them to journey to the nearest Lostbelt for survival's sake. Fortunately the Lostbelt King, Qin Shi Huang, despite deeming the espers as 'Confucians', simply had them imprisoned instead of killed, realizing that they were no threat to him in their half-starved state. They wouldn't have fit into the Shadow Border, but Haruhi used her powers to make a portal from the closed space to Novum Chaldea proper, allowing them to escape the Lostbelt before it collapsed. Director Goredolf Musik and Sion Eltnam Sokaris were helping them to get settled in, effectively making them into new Chaldea staff, which was sorely needed after the culling that had taken place when the original Chaldea base had been sacked by Koyanyska and the Oprichniki.

As the trio entered the Summoning Chamber proper, they were greeted by the younger version of Leonardo da Vinci, who both Haruhi and Gudako thought was adorable, the latter having cuddled with her on more than one occasion. "Hey there, Ritsuka, everyone! We've got enough Saint Quartz to do one summon for each of you today!"

"Morning, Lisa," Haruhi greeted, managing a small smile.

"It's not Lisa, it's Da Vinci! Why do you keep calling me that?!" the young rider pouted.

"I told you, it's to differentiate you from the original," Haruhi replied.

"Yeah, you're WAY cuter than the first one!" Gudako concurred. "Anyway, do I get first dibs this time?"

"Sure, we'll go in order this time," Lisa nodded. "First you, then Ritsuka, then Haruhi. Sound good?"

"Fine by me," Ritsuka agreed. "Go ahead, Gudako."

"Okay! Here I go!" the redhead exclaimed, pulling the lever... a single ring of energy was generated, which collapsed on itself with a bright flash... "WHAT?! Another bowl of spicy mayo tofu?! Come on!"

"Another snack for Artesia," Ritsuka deadpanned.

"Fine then! You take it!" Gudako took the bowl and shoved it into Haruhi's hands, before stomping off with a pout on her face.

"Sore loser, much?" Lisa sighed. "Your turn, Ritsuka."

"All right..." Ritsuka nodded, pulling the lever again... this time, three energy rings appeared, collapsing into a pillar of light, which faded to reveal a humanoid figure... "Wait, you're..."

"Oh ho! So we meet again, Masters of Chaldea!" Qin Shi Huang exclaimed with a flourish of his arms. "To think that I would be summoned into Proper Human History! I must have made quite the impression to be recorded to the Throne of Heroes in this form!"

"...Huh. Not Xiang Yu or Akuta, but this is fine," Haruhi mused. "At least now we know that it's possible..."

"Hmm... so we could probably summon servants from the other Lostbelts as well, given our current circumstances," Da Vinci hypothesized. "Anyway, welcome to Chaldea, Qin Shi Huang. Your abilities will be a great help in solving the remaining Lostbelts, if you are willing to do so..."

"Well, of course! You have already proven your resolve to me, so I will gladly assist you!" the Chinese emperor proclaimed.

"Great! Well, if you could move aside, so Suzumiya can have her turn..." Huang promptly stepped out of the chamber, standing behind Ritsuka. "Okay, whenever you're ready."

"Alright, here I go," Haruhi said as she stepped forward, letting her eyes slide shut as she pulled the lever, thinking about Akuta... when she heard the blast of prana that signified a successful summoning, she opened her eyes again-

-to see what appeared to be a normal thin blonde girl, who wore a simple white sweater, short black shirt, with matching dark pantyhose and shoes. The only indicator that she wasn't human was her bright red eyes. "Hello, people of Chaldea! I'm Arcueid Brunestud, a Moon Cancer! It's a pleasure to work with you!"

"...Well, at least she's not 'dark' or evil," Haruhi sighed. "Anyway, welcome! I'm Haruhi Suzumiya, 49th Master of Chaldea. And this is the 48th Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru."

"Hello, Arcueid-san," Ritsuka greeted with a nod and smile. "It's nice to meet you. Looks like you'll get along well with every-"

"HOLD IT!" an annoying high-pitched female voice shouted out of nowhere. "Hold it, hold it, hoooold it! Did you two miss something here? Something really important?! I thought at least you would have picked up on this, Senpai!"

"Oh, no..." Haruhi groaned, while Ritsuka grimaced in dread.

(now hacking... now hacking...)

(OK!)

"We interrupt this program for an emergency broadcast from BB Channel Headquarters!" exclaimed the busty lilac-haired servant who had suddenly appeared in the room. "It appears that a major crime has taken place, of grand theft class!"

"Grand theft... class?" Ritsuka asked, confused.

"I think she's saying that Arcueid here stole her unique Moon Cancer class," Da Vinci sighed with her eyes closed.

"Exactly! You don't need that Sherlock Holmes to deduce what happened here!" BB exclaimed, before turning to the new arrival. "Now then, do you have anything to say for yourself, thief? Because I'm about ready to go judge, jury, and executioner here!" Her eyes glowed an ominous red. "Buuut in fairness to my Senpai, I'll give you ONE chance to explain yourself!"

"Well, it's simple," Arcueid shrugged. "I'm known as the Moon Princess of the True Ancestors. That is, my power is literally derived from the Moon! So why wouldn't I be a Moon Cancer?"

"She makes a valid point, BB," Ritsuka said.

"Ehhh? You're siding with HER, Senpai?!" BB sweat-dropped. "I thought we were soulmates! Or at least very close friends! How could you do this to me?!"

"I don't think you have any right to call him a soulmate after what you pulled that one summer in Hawaii," Haruhi spoke up.

"Ugh, come on! I already explained why I did that!" BB pouted. "And I'm not about to do another recap here! Any readers will just have to play the event themselves to find out what happened!"

"Readers...? Event...?" Arcueid looked quite confused.

"Don't mind her, she spouts silly gobbledygook a lot of the time," Haruhi shook her head. "Aaaaaanyway, if you're a Moon Princess, I'd say that's justification enough. Your case is dismissed, Black Blossom. Take the L and get out of Dodge."

BB scoffed in disbelief. "Ugh, what kind of kangaroo court is this? I didn't even get to plead my case! Oh, fine. If that's how you're going to be..." She turned on her heel and vanished into spirit form.

"...Quite the eccentric woman," Qin Shi Huang commented. "Are all Proper Human History servants like this?"

"No, BB's a... very special case," Ritsuka replied.

"Special isn't the word I'd use," Haruhi half-snarked. "Well then, how about we take our new arrivals on a tour of Chaldea?"

"Sounds good to me!" Arcueid nodded.

*Chaldea Cafeteria*

"And this is our cafeteria-slash-mess hall, where everyone comes to eat," Haruhi said as the group entered. "Not as grand as the Salon de Marie in the old Chaldea, but it works well enough."

"Hmm, I see some familiar faces here," Qin Shi Huang observed. "Ah! They must be the so-called espers that are your friends, correct?" At the sound of his voice, a few turned to see the former Lostbelt King, rearing out of their seats in shock!

"Hey, hey, it's okay!" Haruhi waved her hands. "Mr. Emperor here is one of us now! No need to freak out, okay? Sit back down and eat!" The espers looked uncertain, but slowly returned to their meals. "Sorry about that, guess they still remember you trying to drop meteors on their heads..."

"I suppose that's understandable," Huang nodded. "I can wait until later to sample Proper Human History's food."

"I wouldn't mind getting a bite, myself," Arcueid said... but then her eyes widened slightly, her head turning slightly to the right. "Wait, do you sense that?"

"Sense what?" Ritsuka asked.

"...there's a Dead Apostle close by," the blonde elaborated. "We need to find it so I can kill it."

"What is a 'Dead Apostle'?" Qin Shi Huang inquired.

"A type of vampire," Arcueid replied. "It's my duty to kill them wherever they appear."

"You have summoned vampires here?" Qin Shi Huang raised an eyebrow.

"I don't think so, other than Vlad III Dracula..." Ritsuka thought aloud. "But he's not actually a vampire..."

"Hey guys!" Sion Eltnam Sokaris called as she jogged up to the duo. "Well, I think everyone's pretty much settled in now... Oh, hey, it's the Lostbelt King from the Chinese Lostbelt! And this one..." Her eyes suddenly shrank to pinpricks as sweat began to bead on her face. "W-what is th-this feeling, like I'm about t-to d-die...?!"

"Because you ARE about to die~" Arcueid replied, before suddenly sprouting claws from her hands! "Hold still, this'll only take a second!"

"Wh- NO!" Haruhi cried, grabbing Arc around the waist, her claws barely missing Sion! "What are you doing?!"

"Killing the Dead Apostle! Leggo!"

"Run, Sion!" Ritsuka cried.

"Don't gotta tell me twice!" Sion cried as she turned and beat feet out of the cafeteria as fast as possible!

"Get off!" Arcueid cried as she broke free, giving chase after the fleeing vampire!

Haruhi fell to her hands and knees after getting bucked off, but raised up her right hand... "By my command spell, you will cease and desist!"

"Argh!" Arcueid gasped as she suddenly felt her feet become heavy, slowing considerably. "N, no... I have to..." She gritted her teeth, trying to press on.

(She's resisting?) Haruhi realized in disbelief. Getting back to her feet, she walked forward, holding out her hand again. "Arcueid Brunestud, by my second command spell, you will stand down!" This time it took, Arc falling to her knees, her claws retracting.

"What a stubborn young woman," Qin Shi Huang commented as the group walked up to Arcueid. "Even if that other woman is a vampire, that alone doesn't justify the death penalty, does it?"

"But..." Arc grunted. "But that's what I was created for... it's my sole purpose for existing..."

"Okay, one, fighting's not allowed inside Chaldea," Haruhi stated, "and two, Sion's a friend and ally of ours! She helped us get back on our feet after the enemy caught us with a blitzkrieg! So you are NOT allowed to kill her! Got it?" She pulled the blonde back to her feet. "Now look, if we encounter any bloodsuckers while we're on deployment, you can go nuts, okay? But not here."

"I think we should keep her and Sion apart for the time being," Ritsuka suggested. "Just to be safe."

"Probably not a bad idea," Haruhi nodded. "Alright, change of plans. Let's go see Merlin. I think we need more info about Dead Apostles and stuff..."

"Could you come with us, Qin Shi Huang? Being a Ruler-class, you have class advantage over Arcueid," Ritsuka requested.

"Most certainly, Master!" Huang agreed. "But hopefully it will not come to that..."

"Hopefully not," Haruhi concurred as they went off.
