vi. Stolen First Kisses

Hogwarts Second Year

James Potter was an idiot. Lyarra should have not trusted him after he helped get her in the Slytherin Quidditch team.

He started acting more nice to her. Well, not that nice but nice overall. He had nodded to her when she passed by, acknowledging her presence. Her friends were confused and suspicious. Lyarra brushed her suspicions off easily since James Potter hadn't been calling her things like 'Evil Slytherin'.

He waited for her to finish Quidditch practice a few times and walked her back to the castle. Lyarra was confused on why he would do that, but he brushed it off and reasoned that he was curious of her new broom that she finally got for joining the Slytherin Quidditch team.

They talked about Quidditch as they walked to the Great Hall for dinner, and separated to their own seats as if nothing had happened.

All of Hogwarts knew how close they had been and were quite shocked that the two individuals that clashed the most had reconciled and daresay, become friends.

But as quickly as they become 'friends', James just had to ruin everything. In three months.

It happened so fast, in a heart fluttering moment. Hogwarts had turned chilly and cold as winter neared, and James had waited for her after practice and the two unknowingly walked closer.

James had called her name and stopped her from walking further by grabbing her hand, then turned her around to face him. He had stepped closer to her and did something that Lyarra wouldn't believe happened.

He kissed her.

Lyarra's heart fluttered at the contact. She went through several emotions until she felt warm inside. It was like the stories of Jemma's romance novels. She closed her eyes as liked the kiss, and it meant more to her because, like the romance novels say, you'll always remember your first kiss. And James Potter was her first kiss.

It wasnt twenty seconds later that James smirked in her mouth and moved backwards.

"Disgusting," He spat with so much venom. "As expected like a Slytherin."

Lyarra's heart dropped. James furiously wiped his mouth and felt like he won. He had successfully pranked Malfoy! She looked stunned and couldn't speak. Her head lowered, and James couldn't see her expression.

"You think someone would kiss you? As if." He laughed like a lunatic. "You're just a slimy, evil Slytherin who happens to be a Malfoy."

Lyarra's head snapped up at that. She raised her hand to slap James Potter but before it hit, she withdrew her hand back, turned around, and ran to the castle, leaving a confused James Potter.

James watched as her figure became smaller as she ran and felt that he had finished his mission. He was smug, but that look on Lyarra's face was not one that he expected. But oh well, a victory is a victory.

He eventually went to the Gryffindor dormitory to tell his friends about his victory, the unreadable face of Lyarra Malfoy forgotten.

"Um hi? You aren't supposed to be here at this hour," A voice called out to her softly.

Lyarra slowly lifted her head up to see a blue haired older boy that she saw ever so often. He was a prefect, and Lyarra remembered his name was Edward Lupin. But the ones close to him called him Teddy. Teddy recognized her instantly.

"Oh, Malfoy. Should have guessed from your hair," He mumbled the last part.

Teddy's eyes widened as he saw her red eyes and nose as he walked closer to her, inside an empty classroom. His eyebrow raised up in concern.

"Were you..."

"Crying? No. I'm just frustrated."

Teddy sighed at her curt answer and sat down next to her.

"Want to tell me what's got you this way? Maybe it could help get it out your chest. I won't tell anyone."

"Why would I--"

"Or I could just take points from your house. You aren't supposed to be out here late at night, you know?" He chastised.

Lyarra actually contemplated his offer. For a Hufflepuff, Lupin was quite determined.

"Promise you won't judge me?"

"...You did what?"

"I kissed Malfoy."

"You kissed Lyarra Malfoy?" Fred said his sentence slowly, still in disbelief.

"Do you like her?" Danny flipped through his Quidditch book of tactics.

"What?! No!" James denied, voice raising.

"I thought you hated her. But you've been quite chummy these past few months." Terrence pointed out in confusion.

"I do hate her!"

"You kissed Lyarra Malfoy for a prank." Fred said in disbelief. James sighed.

"Yeah, so?"

"Wasn't that your first kiss?" Fred pinched the bridge of his nose. This was the dumbest thing that James had ever done.

"Yeah, doesn't mean anything to me though." James shrugged.

"It probably was her first kiss as well." Danny pointed out, looking up from his book.

"I don't care. I'm just happy the prank worked and I ruined her first kiss." James smugly patted himself in the back.

"I'm going for a bath. G'night, lads!" James dismissed himself. His three friends looked at each other and frowned.

"That was..."

"Yeah. I hate him so much." Lyarra sighed as she turned to Teddy who had been sitting next to her the whole rant, "You know how much first kisses mean to people right? What he did was so... So... Ugh!!!" Lyarra threw her hands up in the air in frustration.

"Now, if someone ever asks me how my first kiss went, it would just be the memory of Potter's awful kiss and his smug face!" Lyarra groaned and buried her head underneath her crossed arms again, feeling hot tears stringing her eyes.

Teddy stayed silent as he patted her back in comfort. It only made Lyarra even more sad. She finally cried it all out.

"Is it just me or..."

"Jamie has an obsession with Malfoy? Despite him not claiming to?" Fred completed Terrence's sentence with a sigh.

"Honestly, what is going on inside his head?" Fred said exhasperafedly. Danny went to Fred and patted his shoulder.

"It's just James, mate. Does he even think?"

"I understand your anger and sadness. James shouldn't have done that. It was not a nice move from him, calling you names and all of that 'pranking'," Teddy finally spoke up after Lyarra finished crying. "I'll speak to him when I get the chance,"

"You're close to Potter?"

"Um, his dad is my godfather," Lyarra's heart dropped a little bit.

"...That makes sense. Was he always like this?"

"I'm guessing he must have heard the stories about the war from people and formed the idea in his head. Uncle Ron and Aunt Ginny, especially. They were really biased."

"I'm not surprised." Lyarra sighed, remembering the words of Ginevra Potter back before first year just started.

"Don't mind what James said, Lyarra. A guy is lucky to have a girl like you." Teddy comforted, making Lyarra perk up.

"What? I'm not--"

"Oh please. You're amazing in the Quidditch pitch. From what I've heard, you've been getting very nice grades in class as well. That means you're smart, and not to mention, you're pretty." Teddy listed off her qualities.

"Um, thanks, Lupin..." Lyarra replied, unsure how to response for such praise.

"Just Teddy is alright. You wouldn't mind if I call you Lyarra right?" He smiled, it looked very brotherly.

"Y-Yes, sure." Lyarra stuttered a little bit as she wiped the tear streaks from her face. While she did so, Teddy seemed to be in contemplation.

"I liked your blue hair in the Gryffindor versus Slytherin Quidditch game. It was cool, and reminds me of mine," Teddy chuckled and pointed to his hair. Lyarra chuckles before she sighed.

"As cool as it was, it was also Potter's fault."

"James did that?" Teddy sighed. Lyarra nodded solemnly.

"Did your first kiss mean that much to you?" He asked softly.

Lyarra nodded hesitantly. "It may seem childish but I wished to be kissed by someone who genuinely liked me. I don't want to tell people James Potter was my first kiss, for a prank."

Teddy actually hummed and turned his body fully to Lyarra. Lyarra looked at his blue hair in wonder. It was a refreshing sight, and was a different shade from her blue hair that James pranked her with.

"So, would you mind if I kiss you?" He asked softly.

Lyarra's eyes widened in surprise. Why would Teddy want to kiss her? But his eyes seemed genuine. Teddy was nice.

"Um, I don't mind. But why?"

"Trust me,"

Lyarra nodded. With that, Teddy smiled and leaned closer to kiss Lyarra. Her heartbeat quickened. Then Teddy kisses Lyarra. It didn't last more than five seconds as he backed off.

"Now you can tell them I was your first kiss,"

Lyarra's heart warmed at that. Teddy had kissed her so she wouldn't feel bad about her embarassment.

"That was kind of you," She giggled. "Thank you, Teddy."

"You're welcome, Lyarra." He stood up and stretched. Then he held out a hand to Lyarra. "Now, let's get you back to the dorms before I deduct and points from your house, hm?"

Lyarra nodded and stood up, taking Teddy's offered hand before letting it go.

"I'll walk you to the Slytherin dungeons,"

"Thank you."

"Lya, where have you been?!" Jemma hugged her worriedly, Sarah following along. "You have been gone for 4 hours and nobody knows where you were. We thought you were at practice but you were not. It's already past curfew!"

"Sorry, a lot happened. Can I take a bath first?" Lyarra cringed as she noticed she hadn't changed her clothes since practice.

"Sure, sure. Tell us what happened after!" Sarah patted her back and motioned her to the bathroom.

"Yes ma'am!" Lyarra chuckled.

"James Potter kissed you?!" Jemma whisper furiously.

"And he called you names after that?!" Sarah was fuming. She was pacing back and forth near their beds.

"Wasn't he your first kiss?"

"Yes, I'll just say Teddy's my first kiss from now on. Potter didn't count." Lyarra smiled at Teddy's name but grumbled when she thought of Potter.

"Wait, hold on," Sarah stopped her pacing to think. "You kissed James Potter and Edward Lupin in one night?!"

"Hm... Yes, I guess so." Lyarra shrugged it off nonchalantly. Sarah pounced on her fast. She held both of Lyarra's arms.

"Lya! You insane witch. How did you land two kisses from two different blokes in one day?!" Sarah shook her friend.

"James had kissed me for a prank. He had been getting close to me for it. Teddy found me stressed out in an abandoned classrom after curfew and told me to spill the beans or risk getting points taken." Lyarra tried to explain the best as she can.

"For a Hufflepuff, he's quite determined." Jemma added a comment.

"I know, right? But I guess Teddy was helping me speak up so I don't need to keep it all inside and mull over the prank anymore. It was kind of nice."

"...Then how did he got to kiss you?" Jemma leaned closer and took Lyarra's hand in comfort. Sarah held the other.

"Teddy saw how my first kiss meant for me and how I didn't want to remember Potter being the first one after that horrible experience." Lyarra sighed.

"Potter is a prat." Sarah spat. Jemma nodded furiously.

"Honestly after the kiss with Teddy I... I don't remember my kiss with Potter. It was so different and Teddy's feel more... Genuine." Lyarra said wistfully, lying down her bed with a sigh.

"Do you have a crush on Lupin?" Jemma asked with a smile.

"I... I don't know..." Lyarra blushed.

"Wait, you do!" Sarah grinned. "You're blushing so hard!"

"What even counts as a crush anyways?" Lyarra asked unsurely.

"The feeling that you want to see and be with them all the time. Or how you appreciate them just noticing you. It's different for each people," Jemma explained wisely.

"If he makes you feel a certain way maybe, like special?" Sarah suggested.

Lyarra giggled.

"Then I guess I do have a crush on Teddy Lupin."
