vii. It's Easy to Ignore

Hogwarts Second Year

James Potter had expected Lyarra Malfoy to come in the Great Hall with certain expressions the next day. Sad, on the verge of tears... He has told his friends to take a bet. They reluctantly did... Even though they think it was not that right doing so.

Fred had bet that she would glare at James. Danny had bet that she would probably look worse for wear considering how James had hurt her last night. Terrence had bet that she would snap at her friends, and lastly James had bet that she would look defeated.

It was a shock to the Gryffindors that when Lyarra Malfoy and her posse arrived at the Great Hall she looked nicer than usual. She was beaming, her platinum blonde hair was straight and looked soft. Her eyes had slight dark bags in them but it was a usual sight for her since Malfoy was known to read a lot of books, even when it was breakfast.

James actually gaped. Lyarra walked in the Great Hall with confidence and a bright smile, making almost everyone turn around and assess her, including his friends.

"She looks... Happy," Danny said unsurely. "None of us were right."

"That can't be!" James said in disbelief, banging his hands on the table.

"Lyarra!" A voice called out to her, making the Gryffindors turn and look at the bloke. To James' shock, it was blue haired Teddy Lupin.

Lyarra had turned to the voice calling her and actually smiled. "Good morning, Teddy."

Terrence had scooted closer to whisper, "Since when were they that close? Nobody calls him Teddy unless they're close to him, right?"

He got ignored as the Gryffindors and almost the rest of Hogwarts population watched them.

Lyarra and Teddy seemed to be in a nice conversation. It was wierd to see the princess of Slytherin and prince of Hufflepuff conversing. James had actually glared when Lyarra had giggled and a blush had risen up to her cheeks as she stared intensely into Teddy's eyes.

"Your prank backfired," Fred patted James in the shoulder for consolation, "Again."

"Malfoy looks so smitten." Danny pointed out as he chewed his breakfast. James gripped his glass harder at the comment.

Not long, Lyarra and Teddy had said their goodbyes, both going to their house tables. Lyarra had unconsciously touched her lips that she bit which James didn't fail to notice. Lyarra's girl friends had squealed as they asked her for the details while Nott and Zabini had curious looks on their faces.

At this point, James expected her to at least look at him and give him that proud, evil Malfoy smug smirk at him, but she had ignored his very existence and not turn to the Gryffindor table even once, but he did caught her trying to find the blue haired Hufflepuff in another table.

It irked him.

Teddy had reprimanded him hard when the sixth year prefect had caught him after Quidditch practice.

"She's a nice girl, James. You're being unecessarily mean to her."

"I don't like her, Teddy." James had crossed his arms in stubborness. Teddy actually gave a long sigh.

"You called her names," Teddy chastised. James actually fell silent. He did call her names. "And stole her first kiss. Which was so immature of you."

James' lips quirk up. Teddy knew.

"That was a horrible prank, James. You hurt her."

"It was just a meaningless kiss. She's also my first too, doesn't mean anything to me." James shrugged, "How'd you know anyways?"

"She told me." Teddy said simply.

"She told you?" James raised an eyebrow. "How did you two get close in one night?"

"We talked after you did that to her." Teddy sighed. "I kind of... Helped her."

"...How?" James asked, curious. What could Teddy possibly do that made Lyarra Malfoy even forgot the genius prank that James did?

"You don't need to know," Teddy dismissed, "Look, Jamie. If you don't like Lyarra, you can just ignore her existence. Why would you waste time just to make her suffer?"

"It's fun? Ouch! Did you just slap my head?!"

"You deserve it. I need to get through that thick skull of yours." Teddy actually chuckled, but then turned serious again. "I'm serious, James,"

"No, I'm James Sirius-- Teddy!" Teddy had hit him on the side of the head again.

"Just ignore Lyarra Malfoy. Or risk getting your house points taken, getting reported to Headmaster McGonagall, and getting kicked out of the Gryffindor Quidditch team." Teddy threatened. James' eyes actually flared at that. Not the Quidditch team!

"Alright, alright," James said grouchily.

Ignoring Lyarra Malfoy would be easy, right?

Ignoring her was not easy. She had always came into his line of sight with her constantly growing vibrant smiles that seemed to light up more when she proudly answered questions in class or when she talks to Teddy Lupin. The two have been really chummy ever since the incident.

Lyarra and Teddy could be seen together in the library where they softly whisper talks about the books they were reading, or they simply were just walking and talking in the hallways in between classes. All of them irked James' mood.

He wasn't sure how he could follow Teddy's instruction.

Opposite to him, Lyarra had completely ignored James' throughout the school year, even if Gryffindor and Slytherin had met each other in class or the Quidditch pitch.

She had taken Jemma's advice just to ignore the boy and it really had made her life easier. Lyarra had felt the burning glare in classes or in hallways, courtesy of James Potter. He was so hell bent on making her life suffer.

And with that, second year ended with Ravenclaw winning the Quidditch cup, much to James and Lyarra's dismay. Well, more on James though, since Lyarra's mind had been filled with Teddy Lupin, and her god awful crush on him.

What a year.
