Chapter 1

-Nino-

Ah... there I was, reliving the day I almost died. I was drowning in a lake somewhere in Kyoto, nothing but darkness surrounding me. I flailed and I flailed, desperate to get myself closer to the surface, but the more I tried, the further the surface appeared to be. When I had started to lose all hope, the last bit of air leaving my lungs, a dark figure suddenly jumped into the water. He grabbed onto my wrist and dragged me all the way up. The next thing I knew, I was on the ground, sitting beside my savior, but for some weird reason his face was all fuzzy.

"Hey, you okay?" he asked.

"Huh?" was all I could say before everything started to fade into black.

"...chan! Onee-chan! Are you okay?" said a familiar voice. I felt someone shaking me and I opened my eyes, only to reveal my little brother, Hiro. "Jeez, you had me worried there! You weren't answering when I called for you. And when I checked up on you, you were crying in your sleep! Did the nightmares come back?"

I placed a hand on my face, and just as he said, my ears were rather teary. I smiled, "It was just a weird dream, Hiro. Nothing for you to worry about." I placed a hand on his head and messed with his hair. "Your onee-chan's fine, now why don't you start making breakfast? We can't start our first day at our new school on an empty stomach! I'll catch up to you in a sec."

Hiro smiled and knocked my hand off, "Alright, alright... I guess I got carried away there. Anyway you better start getting ready, your new school's kinda far so you gotta leave a little earlier!" he said as he stood up and exited my room.

I suppose this is the time I should introduce myself. My name's Nino Nakano, and due to certain circumstances, I'm about to start my second year of high school at a new school. I groaned and got out of bed and practically crawled my way to the bathroom. I sighed, "Why did that dream have to come now, of all times? Talk about starting the day in the worst possible way!" I took a quick shower, and then put on my uniform. "I have to say, this uniform feels more comfortable than my last one... not to mention its way cuter too!" I picked up my ribbons, tied them to my hair, and went downstairs for breakfast.

I hurried down to the dining room and couldn't help but drool, "As usual the food you make always smells so good!"

Hiro smiled, "Well obviously, I learned from the best cook in the world, you know!"

As soon as he said that I felt a sense of pride course through me. I smiled and hugged my little brother, "Oh yes, praise me more, you adorable little boy!"

"Onee-chan… can't… breathe!" was all I could hear from him as I bear hugged him.

I quickly let go of him and fixed his collar "Sorry about that… I even got your uniform messed up! Now why don't we start eating? The food's about to get cold!"

Breakfast went by pretty quickly, well, with only me and Hiro around, that was expected. My papa was rarely at home because of work, so most of the time it's just me and Hiro, and the occasional cleaning lady. As I finished my breakfast, I looked at my phone, "Oh! If I don't leave now, I'm gonna be late, can I leave the dishes to you?"

Hiro sighed and smiled, "Sure thing, onee-chan! But you owe me."

I hugged him, "Thank you! I'll grab you a copy of that weekly Shonen magazine you like on my way home!" and went on my way.

A few train stations later, I finally arrived near my new school. I looked down on my phone's map application to see if I was going the right way and without looking in front of me, I bumped into a person, dropping my phone in the process. "Oh! Sorry about that, I wasn't looking where I was going and I—" I looked up and saw what the man looked like. He had a familiar school uniform, slicked back green hair and golden eyes, and he was smiling. I felt that I knew him, but this was my first time seeing him!

He picked up my phone and gave it to me, "Oh it's alright, I wasn't looking where I was going either." he then looked at my uniform, "Oh, you go to Asashiyama High? And a second year too?"

I nodded, still taken aback by how familiar he was, yet so unfamiliar as well, "Yeah... today's my first day. My name's Nino Nakano, and you are?"

He laughed and reached out his hand, "Oh where are my manners! I'm Shin Uesugi, Asashiyama High's student council president, would you like me to show you to the campus?"

Thought I'd bring back this fanfic I made way back then! I had scrapped this initially because of the "Rewind" fanfic I made, but I decided to tweak it a bit and try and continue it along with "Rewind" instead. I'm probably digging my own grave by working on two fanfics at the same time, but hey it's still more fun than doing my irl job lmao
