Albert sighed as he made his way to the office, eating his day old crumpet. The weekly tea shipment was late, again, so he was stuck drinking papaya juice - as was typically the case. Being stuck in the Amazon wasn't an ideal situation to begin with, but being stuck in the Amazon without any hot drinks and all the food allegedly tasting like chicken but not actually being chicken was driving him slowly mad. But it was his job to keep up morale.
Albert bust the door to his office open with a yawn, and put his cup down on his desk. Also on his desk were various notes; angry letters from skippers, messages from his sponsor, Aero-Casablanca, notes from Alberta about the goings on of the Jungle Navigation Company, as well as his own cheesy trivia notes.
However, he decided to ignore them all in favour of rooting through his record collection to find some half-decent songs to play today. Although he knew with limited resources those would be the usual ones; With Plenty of Money and You, The King's Horses and the King's Men, It's the Girl, Jeepers Creepers, Rhythm King, Diga Diga Doo...
At this point, Albert wasn't even sure whether his fellow skippers even listened to his show and after so many years broadcasting on the DBC, he wasn't going to ask them either.
Instead, he adjusted the picture on his desk of his wife and daughter, grabbed the first record in the pile, Here Comes My Ball and Chain, and put it on the turntable.
Albert took a long swig of his papaya juice, inhaled sharply and spoke into the microphone his station identifier that he was certain he recited in his sleep (but if he did talk in his sleep, his wife never mentioned it).
'This is skipper Albert Awol, the voice of the jungle, broadcasting on the DBC to all points unknown. If you're within the sound of my voice, you are listening to Awol Airwaves.'
Albert Awol is the self proclaimed 'voice of the jungle' who appears in the Jungle Cruise queue loop, but only in the Walt Disney World version. He's a member of Disney's Society of Explorers and Adventurers, and has written a book in the Jungle Cruise Skipper Canteen; the Illustrated Guide to Radio Broadcasting.
He is also a character in the Tales from Adventureland book series.
