CLANN - Unseelie

I got to Jake's house later than I said, but I had to drain my bank account in Seattle. I felt almost like a criminal doing that, but the bank teller didn't seem at all interested in my request. I hadn't earned enough working at the Newton's store so it wasn't as if it was alarming anyway. I thanked her and breathlessly left. I slammed the door of my truck shut and headed for La Push.

"What the hell took you so long!" He furiously whispered. He held the stiff screen door open so I could get in. I couldn't help noticing how much more different his physique was.

"I'm sorry! I had to draw out cash out of town. Why couldn't I talk to your dad directly anyway?"

"Don't worry. You're about to find out." He huffed.

"What?"

"The stories are real, Bells."

"Yeah. I know that already." He stared at me with tortured eyes, as if it wasn't only me who suffered from the sudden separation between us. Even though him doing that hurt me, I felt bad for him.

"Not just that," He said pointedly.

Before he could finish, Billy rolled in from the living room.

"Bella swan," He said, looking between me and Jacob, but looking like he was already suspecting Jacob of whatever it was.

"Fancy seeing you here. Shouldn't you be in school?"

"Yeah. Actually, I came to see you."

"Does Charlie know you're here?" I took a deep breath. My hands were already cold and I swear I was going to pass out. I've been holding my breath since he appeared.

"No, and he can't know."

"What's going on?" His tone was still the innocent inquisitive type. I was confused I looked at Jacob with furrowed brows. I thought he knew already that the stories were real. Jacob nodded at Billy with his head.

"It's about the Cullens, sort of." I said. Billy shifted in his chair and interlaced his fingers in his lap.

"I'm listening,"

"It's really okay, Bells" Jake said.

"Jacob!" Billy shouted.

"I didn't say anything! I couldn't even if I tried," He growled. Now I was lost. I thought about what Jacob said -the stories being real-, how that meant that the wolves were real too. That in front of me was a descendant of the tribe the Cullens saw when they first came to live in Washington.

"The wolves are real." I thought out loud. Still real. I looked at Jake, mouth agape. And I wasn't supposed to know.

"Jacob!" Billy shouted again. They argued in front of me.

I wasn't sure how the genetics worked but I was surprised Jacob could be one of them. Could Billy 'transform' too before his accident?

"I didn't say anything! Sam's command doesn't let me!"

"He didn't! I knew already, I promise." I said, stepping between them. I could feel Jacob's heat radiating off of him.

"Because he told you last year, when those stories werer only for us to hear." Billy huffed.

"That doesn't matter now. Bella's here because of something else," Jacob said.

"It's better if I showed you," I said, head slightly hung. I unwrapped my hoodie with my back facing Billy and hunched away from Jacob. I revealed it to him first- he loudly sucked in a breath.

"Jesus, Bella," I turned, revealing a very noticeable bump the hoodie was barely hiding.

Billy nearly crawled up the back of his chair at the sight, his face stricken. Jacob suddenly punched the wall next to him. He even left a dent. I didn't know he was that wrong.

"It's Edwards," I said, hugging the bump.

"How- how can it be?" Do I have to give the talk now?

"The day before my birthday, he and I-"

"You didn't!" I jumped at Billy's scream.

"Did you know what he was, what they all were?" He asked.

"Yes," I said, scared now. "I knew soon after I moved here." He reacted like he did before, but wasn't halfway up his chair this time. He looked at my stomach almost harshly.

"I thought that- I was hoping that you can maybe help, since-"

"That's a half blood sucker!" Jacob shouted uncouth-ly. I glowered at him.

"It's a baby,"

"We don't know what it is," Billy said. "Could be human, could be a demon. I really wish you hadn't Bella. Or at least that it wasn't you." Now he spoke to me like he did to Jacob, like I had done something absolutely forbidden.

"I'm going to call the elders for a meeting, figure out what we should do." Jacob stepped closer to me.

"Why do you have to call them? Can't you help her here?"

"We don't know what we're dealing with here. I don't know. This is unheard of, our tribe may have never seen this happen either," Billy said, looking at my bump distastefully.

"What will happen?" I asked.

"I won't know until we meet, but... be prepared for the worst." He said, rolling forward cautiously.

"They'll want to kill it?" I said stepping back.

"It might be what's best for all of us, but especially for you Bella. If you didn't have it, you could go home to Charlie, back to your normal life,"

"What if I don't want that," I said. I don't think I do. Not back to before I ever met Edward.

"What if I want to keep it," I pushed. He tilted his chin up.

"Brace yourself." I moved out of his way and with a lot of struggle, he left the house and rode the ramp down to the ground.

"Jesus. My dad was not at all that scary before-" He tensed and unlocked his jaw over and over.

"Before?" I prompted. He slammed his fist against the door frame. He could demolish this house bare handed.

"I literally can't say. It's like he has a spell on me. And you already know," He looked at me with begging eyes.

"Don't tell me you came all the way here and still hadn't figured it out?"

"It's a little hard to believe you could be a werewolf." I said. I looked up and down at him. "You really hit a gnarly growth spurt. You should really get that looked at,"

"Are you serious?" He said, half in disbelief.

"Shift into a wolf in front of me, then," I said, letting him know I already understood.

"I can't do that, it's too small in here and... you'll get hurt," His eyes fell to my tummy.

I was still holding it.

"I was going to say something when I first saw you but," He stared. I pulled my sweater off all the way and lowered myself into the sunken couch.

"When was the last time you ate?"

"I don't even remember." I responded.

"Do you want something?" He said, getting up again. I waved my hand at him.

"No, I've tried everything. Please stop talking about food, or I'm going to hurl,"

"All right."

"You really changed, Jacob Black.

"You're one to talk."

"Werewolf-ism does this for you? Lucky you. Others have to work for it." He didn't laugh at that.

"What's it been like?" I asked.

"A sort of hell. I'm not free anymore. I'm not my own person. I can hear him, the pack leader -Sam Uley- in my head. When he orders, I have to obey. When it's a command, I have no choice." My brows furrowed. Who was this person who affected my sun?

"Why?" I asked.

"It's like a spell, like I said before. I could think of doing the opposite of what he said, but I can't actually do it. My body won't move." He explained. Becoming a werewolf wasn't a happy occasion or an easy transition. I really wished I could have been there for him, but I gather Sam commanded I be kept in the dark.

"I'm especially worried about what he'll say," Jacob continued. "The elders will tell him and he'll come."

I shook my knee. I never met Sam Uley before, but obviously he had a lot of say. I thought I could get help here. I didn't know I could be so very wrong. Tears welled up. Jacob noticed and knelt in front of me, wiped them away.

"I promised that I'd keep you safe, and I will ," He said. I nodded. If I knew anything else, I knew I could trust him.

"Did you mean it? Are you sure about keeping it?"

"Jacob,"

"Think about it, you could die,"

"Don't you dare tell me to reconsider. I won't die. I won't. I'm going to live and I'm going to protect him." Jacob gripped my hands.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you," I said. "I would have. I would have protected you-We could've run away together," He looked up at me with wavering eyes.

"You would do that for me?" I paused for a moment. If I had ever run away with someone, it would have been with Edward. But since he wasn't here, and Jacob needed help...

"I would do it for you,"
