After birth-
Jacob said that even if Renesmee was an abomination, the wolves couldn't, wouldn't, kill her. Because to a wolf, killing their mate is also the wolf's death, the death of their world. A wolf simply couldn't kill another's mate. It was their most absolute law.
I was far from happy that Jacob had imprinted on my daughter, claimed that he 'loved' her, as if he could love her more than me. But it made Renesmee untouchable. Forever.
Six months later...
Renesmee kept growing. Just as fast as she did in the womb. About three times as fast a child normally would. I did my best to hide it when I drew a line at the book I held on to her head, as she stood against the wall. I did my best to hide the worry whenever I looked at her.
Jacob worried too, but his love for her made it easier for him. He was always smiling around her, but with me it all hung out.
A normal, human, child stands on their own when they're a little past a year old. Renesmee was doing that at three and a half months and speaking in full sentences. Did this mean I'd only have my daughter for four times less than other mothers would have theirs?
Alice, I'm scaredl -I wrote.
At this rate, if it doesn't slow down, Renesmee will only live for twenty to twenty-six years. She'll be eighteen in four to six years. I would be twenty-four. We'd look like sisters.
God, I wish I could slow it down. I never put her down since birth, never. My baby was only a baby for three months...-
Not long after she was born, we celebrated her 'first' birthday. We hung a banner and had balloons crowding the ceiling. We prepared as many gifts as we could. Alice would've loved to spoil her.
-Thank you for your support. Really. I got to give her everything she could want, and a normal birthday.- I wished I could give her a normal everything.
She's beautiful, Alice. So beautiful. She has Edward's hair. Her eyes are brown; they don't really change color when she feeds. But despite them, she reminds me so much of Edward. There's a strength to her. She's so smart...
Sometimes when I look her, I feel like I got punched in the gut. I love her as I did, do, Edward. I want, so much, to raise her as well as he and all of you would have. With all the experience and knowledge you all carry... I wish I could teach her of all that.
It's so easy to imagine all of you, or most of you, smiling around her. Esme would love her as much as I do. I imagine how proud she and Carlisle would be to have a grandchild. Esme might even cry. She'd definitely cry. I'm not sure how Rosalie would react but hopefully she's gentle with her.
I miss you.
"Mom! Come play with us in the snow!" Renesmee shouted. She quickly went back to her snowball fight with Jacob. Luckily Jacob was a werewolf and healed fast. Renesmee could create snowballs in a flash and throw harder than a pitcher.
"I'm coming!"
-I hope you're all okay and happy, wherever you are. I love you.- I sent it to the non-existent email address and closed my laptop. I don't think I've smiled as hard as I did now since Edward left. I threw on my jacket and jumped into my boots to join them.
The elders have met Renesmee already, after I've healed from giving birth. Jacob hated that a lot. Him and Quil weren't enough protection to him. Emily walked with me, close to me, when I brought her closer to them. Levi practically trembled and gasped in fear where he sat. The others that surrounded him weren't doing much better. They were restless, shifting constantly on their feet. Renesmee, who already could hold her head up and reach out, turned her head to them, looking them straight in the eye with her alert and present eyes, and reached out to Levi. Levi looked somewhat marveled but also disgusted. He quickly lowered the hand that instinctively rose to touch hers. Everyone else had softer expressions. It's a little hard to deny how pretty and miraculous she is. They smiled at her like they would at any new baby.
"Well. That settles it, then." Harry said happily. Those who took his side nodded, smiling too. Levi's supporters looked relieved.
"Does she- it, have control over her...urges?" Levi asked. I rocked Renesmee a little who was miffed that Levi didn't let her show him 'pictures'. I had to do my best to choose my words carefully.
"Renesmee gets hungry like any other child. She prefers blood over breastmilk, but she listens well. She understands she can't feed all the time, and like other babies, she bites me when I breastfeed sometimes." The elders gasped.
"She doesn't have venom like other vampires. I would have been turned if she did. When she gets older, Jacob will teach her to hunt. I'll teach her to do the right thing." I said firmly. "If the Cullens could learn control over their urges, then so can she."
"You're human. How could you know what it's like, to thirst for what gives a person life?" Levi said. Renesmee touched the bare skin at my chest, replaying what he said from her perspective. She didn't like him and was offended. I blinked to remove the glaze over my eyes and moved her arm down. I'll keep her gift a secret for now.
"Renesmee is human too. She has feelings and understands that hurting people hurts them. She doesn't want to do that. She sees everyone as either Emily or Jacob." I said.
Renesmee did indeed want to be petulant and bite Jacob, at least, for blood, but she knew what 'no' meant. She knew it would make me unhappy and that she could only have blood from someone if they gave her permission. I wasn't a vampire; I can't train her like the Cullens could and Jacob doesn't crave animals. But I can teach her respect for life and consent. I explained that to Levi. He didn't want to accept it, but that answer satisfied the others.
"That could work for now, but when she can walk?" Levi asked. As if challenging if I could have answer for everything. I glowered.
"Why wouldn't she listen to me?" I said. Renesmee threatened to cry hard. I don't think she understands what he meant even if she knew what the words meant.
"In the future, she'll be stronger than you."
"Perhaps not at all, or half as much as a full vampire." I responded. "That's the future. We have nothing to go by, now. We can't predict it."
"Then we shall see."
"You plan to watch us for the rest of her life?" I asked harshly. A growl rumbled in Jacob's chest.
"Where would you go?"
"I don't have to stay here. You can't keep us in La push." I said.
"And if you couldn't control her?" Levi started. "How would you protect the pale faces?" I couldn't deny he was right. I turned to Jacob. He wouldn't hurt her if she did. He couldn't. But the wolves could, if they were ordered to. I hated I had to think of that. I held Renesmee close and caressed her head. Thankfully her gift wasn't 2-way. She couldn't know what I was thinking. What if philosophy wasn't enough to prevent murder? Edward even rebelled once. Then Renesmee could suffer that guilt too.
"Would you chase after us?" I asked, staring daggers into him.
"To keep an eye on you, or, if there were bodies being found. The wolves could sniff you out. If you insist, I could tell your father you're here."
"And put him at risk?" I challenged.
"Let her be. If she goes elsewhere, it wouldn't be our business, but her crime to bear." An elder said.
"And what of the victim's families? If we let her go, those deaths would then be on our conscious. Can you bear that?" That elder stayed quiet, while Levi straightened his vest, feeling satisfied with himself. Harry and a couple of others looked on in pity. How much did he actually care anyway?
"I can't stand the council being led by someone as overbearing as you," One scolded. It didn't phase Levi. "I'm not so sure you're doing this for the good of the people or yourself," He continued.
"This doesn't benefit me in any way," Levi said.
"But let's you have control over others."
"Enough. At least Jacob has his own authority now." Someone said. Levi knew this and did not like it. All he had to depend on was if Jacob respected the elders, the culture and them as Quileutes- if Jacob would obey out of respect or reverence. But I won't separate Jacob from his family. I won't let him leave Billy and his home.
"I'll stay. Only until Renesmee is a pre-teen." I said. "That's old enough for her to be able to make decisions on her own. It's the age wolves usually shift for the first time and learn to control their anger, and the shifting." All of the elders agreed it was fair, leaving Levi backless. Levi had to agree.
"Fine."
I'm quite happy with the last part. Eeee! My favorite part of period, C-dramas is the arguments, the twisting of words, twisting them right back, the wit and out witting. Ungh, I think I did well.
I know I made it sound like the next event would happen in this update, but it was already pretty long -longer than I anticipated- so the next major event will be in the next one.
-I realized that some of you might think it's weird Bella would have a laptop. It was a laptop in the movie but a big clunky thing from the early 2000's in the book (I had one of those too). So some deets might be true to the movie or book at times. Why would she leave it behind anyway if it could prove useful? Plus, as the Chief of Police, if it were left behind, the police could look through past searches, see she googled the address of the bank location in Seattle and find clues to where she might have gone, gone there, ask to have the tapes of traffic cams, etc to follow her steps. It takes forever, but yeah.
The clues might end at Seattle, but Bella might have wanted to avoid any future trouble and taken it with her, out of fear. Not to be rude, just sharing what I think she would do.
Thanks again for reading my little story. I hope I've given it its own flavor. I've been told there's many other stories like it. See you next time!
Thank you to all the new followers! I appreciate you giving me your time.
