Nobody responded, and that's fine. I may have blown it out of proportion so I'm keeping what I wrote.
Chapter 21
The food went completely untouched as if it was two vampires that had sat at the table, not one. I wished I could have stayed and talked with her longer.
After promising we'd meet again, I left the cafe taking the packed-up food and throwing it out. Saving the fruit for Renesmee. The rain had hit on the way back and I shook it off at the door.
"Hey," I said to Jacob. He helped me get the already wet jacket off before I was in it too long.
"Hey. Nessie's been fed and is already doing her studying."
"Oh. Great." I said, getting my shoes off.
"The rain is going to wash away her scent. The wolves caught her again but only saw her hair. Bright red. Definitely not one of the Cullens."
"It's not. I said that already."
"Did they really make an enemy and made her your problem?" He said disdainfully.
"First of all, no. Second of all, that's Nessie's-Renesmee's extended family you're talking about. You hate them, you hate half of her, her vampire half." I scolded.
"Alright, alright."
"And could you not call her that? You already got me saying it."
"Are you mad?"
"I'm not mad! I'm not. I'm... frustrated. I can't catch a break." I sighed. Everyone's coming back, and I'll have to deal with Renesmee meeting him and how that'll go. What Jacob will think, the elders, Charlie...
Charlie's safety. She was in the house, in my room. And I also have to tell Jacob they're coming back.
"Jacob. I have to tell you something, but you can't freak out on me or be... melodramatic."
"What?" He asked, offended.
"Alice came back. I wasn't at a dentist appointment; I was meeting her."
"What?" He said angrily.
"She came to tell me Victoria, the redhead, was back. That she was passing a shirt of mine to others. Which means she was at my house as if things weren't horrifying enough..." He huffed where he stood, shaking.
"Jacob. Control."
"I know."
"So, they're coming, all of them?" He said, after a breath.
"I guess so."
"What do you mean the redhead was passing your shirt to others," he said, shaking his head.
"I didn't ask. We didn't talk about that. I was catching her up and catching up with her."
"You don't have to involve them. We can handle this." He said, shaking his head.
"There are others, vampires I'm assuming. I didn't ask how many, and what are they if not vampires?" I told him.
"Maybe you can't. Besides, Forks has to be safe too. And Charlie. And... that's Renesmee's family. Whether Edward wants her or not, he has to know. It's the right thing to do. Besides... I'm not mad they're back," I admitted.
"Bella, don't make decisions without me,"
"I'm not. I just-I'm her mother. It's my decision if she meets them or not, my job to protect that option. And you can't try telling her it's a bad idea because you hate him. It's her choice whether or not she wants to meet him." I told him.
"I know. I wouldn't."
"You thought about it," I said. How could he not? "He's going to read your mind or just cut to killing you when he finds out." He paled a little at that.
"None of them can cross the treaty line."
"They won't. Alice didn't." Would Edward? For Renesmee? Maybe, maybe not. I hoped for Renesmee's sake he cared about her. He could break up with me, and hurt me all he wants, but not her.
"Alice would stop them if they wanted to," I added.
"You're going to tell her now?" He asked, nodding his head towards the room Renesmee was in.
"...I don't know. I'll see when Alice tells me what's happened after she tells the others. I gave her my number."
"Alright," He huffed.
That night I could barely bear looking at Renesmee's bronze hair. Soon I'd see it again. On the head of the person that changed my whole world. Gave me a new one and destroyed it in front of me.
That bastard. I have to make sure I don't look like I've suffered. My clothes weren't the greatest, and my stomach has changed- who am I kidding? I'd look like shit no matter what, to him. But I have to try for the sake of my pride. I want respect.
I tried to sleep, but I couldn't. When my phone chimed, I was awake to respond right away.
I've spoken to Edward. He's getting on a red-eye flight.
He'll be here tomorrow night. He can't believe it.
I'll try to keep Renesmee out of my thoughts. I want him to be surprised! Let me know when you can escape the wolves for a bit.
"I don't have to escape the wolves," I responded. "I should tell Jacob first. He'll want to come. He's asleep right now so I'll tell you tomorrow."
Ugh. Okay. Get some sleep, okay?
"I'd rather not. I forgot to ask, where have you been all this time?" I asked.
Nowhere in particular. Everyone kind of went in their direction, so all of them have to get different flights. They'll get to Forks after Edward.
"None of you can be seen by Charlie or anyone in town, okay?" I reminded.
Don't worry We'll be careful.
Carlisle is a little concerned, but he and Esme can't wait to meet her.
Rosalie...well, don't worry about her no matter what. Emmett is in your corner. Always has been.
We continued to chat until I finally fell asleep. I was woken by Jacob and Renesmee who wanted pancakes.
"Alright, alright! I'm up. You could just make 'em yourself," I told Jacob, whacking him with a pillow.
I got the ingredients mixed with a little help from Renesmee.
"Aren't mom's pancakes better tasting?" he said.
"Mm-hmmm!" She sang.
"See? I can't make them myself,"
I hummed in response. How do I start? How do I word what I have to say? Maybe I should wait for her to eat a little, in case she decided to stop.
I waited and ate impatiently. Renesmee eagerly ate the smiley face pancakes she made with berries and chocolate chips.
"Renesmee?"
"Yeah?"
"Remember when I told you about the Cullens?" Jacob looked at me in extreme shock.
"Yeah. Father's family." She said, less excitedly.
"I would've shown you pictures of them if I had any. Especially a photo of Alice." I paused for a moment. "Aunt Alice came to visit. She really wants to meet you." She chewed pensively.
"But why? They never came before."
"They couldn't. Alice would have if she knew you were here. I didn't have a way to tell her."
"They did that on purpose,"
"Not really. The people of Forks were already noticing they weren't aging. Especially Grandpa Carlisle. Wherever he goes, they do. That's why they left." I lied. She furrowed her brows harder and put down her fork. I sighed quietly.
"What if they don't like me?" Her response made me think of the time I met the Cullens for the first time and Edward said: 'You're worried, not because you'll be in a house full of vampires, but because you think they won't like you?'
"Baby... of course, they'll like you. They're going to love you, trust me," I said, stroking the back of her hair.
"But...Aunt Rosalie is a bit of a stick in the mud. Don't mind her. I had to ignore her too when I met her. She's like that to everyone, even her siblings." Perhaps I should warn her.
"...Do I have to?"
"Not if you don't want to," Jacob said. He looked up to glare a little. I glared back, then turned to Renesmee.
"You have to. At least once. They're your family too. More importantly... they're vampires too. Wouldn't you like to meet others like you?" She shifted in her seat, then she reached out to touch me.
She showed me pictures of our quaint, little life here. Memories of her wondering why she only had a mother, and her father was just...not here. Memories of her trying to imagine him, using the parts of her she knew didn't come from me. Then a mix of blurred colors, riddled with fear and anxiety at actually meeting him. Preferring the comfortable. The confusion that none of them were here to protect us. And hate. More specifically, resentment. She knew how to have it.
I cried into my hands. I had no idea she carried so much in her mind. That she wondered why she couldn't know any of them. Have them. Why I too couldn't have parents. That it must be because of her. Guilt. I did this to her. Jacob's sweltering heat suddenly surrounded me.
"Show me!" Jacob told her. I held onto him as he saw what I did.
"Nessie... It's ok Bells. You're okay,"
"I'm sorry," she said in a small voice.
"It's okay, baby. I'd rather know!" I pulled her into my arms, unsure of how to comfort her. Explain it to her. in a way that she could understand
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." I started.
"It's okay to hate them a little. I do too. But I love them so much more. I wish I didn't have to leave my parents, but you already know vampires have to be a secret. This is safer."
"But you're not scared of me, Mommy?"
"We can't know how others will react." I'll tell her about the Volturi later. "I simply can't tell you why. It's not that Charlie and Renee wouldn't like you. Please believe me that this is safer. Please understand that I can't tell you everything all at once. I don't want to. I don't want to overwhelm you with everything,"
"I wish I was human,"
"I can't do anything about that," I said through my sobs, rocking her. I did my best. I could've said everything perfectly, but she would have still wondered. It can't be avoided.
"You're the best thing that ever happened to me," I said when our cries died down. "I'd do it all over again just to have you," I told her.
She showed me her memory of seeing me for the first time when she was born. How I always smiled whenever I looked at her. How I always encouraged her to make friends at the park and try new things.
"You're the only one I want." Her pictures seemed to say. Everyone else had everything, but they didn't have me.
"I love you so much. You have no idea." I said into her hair.
Hopefully, Grammarly helped me catch stuff better. Remember, stories are just stories.
