The soldiers completed their routine, then filed out of the dojo, the air feeling a lot thinner with so few occupants. Jaken announced them, as if they weren't standing a few feet away.

Sesshoumaru nodded, then told his vassal to see to the western garden. Giving them a sideways glance, Jaken bowed, then followed after the soldiers, leaving Kagome to wonder just how big the Shiro was.

The garden they'd come through was well-tended, lush grass giving way to an open orchard, the promise of fruit beginning to bloom on the branches.

It reminded her of picnics spent under Goshinboku, and Kagome felt the familiar but bittersweet memories of home wrap around her heart.
