Mother and son were a mix of anxiety and anguish, and Kagome's heart broke for them. Sesshoumaru clearly wanted to help, but either he didn't know how, or his mother's trauma ran so deep she didn't recognize it.
Kagome grabbed Sesshoumaru's hand before he could retreat, then dislodged his mother's hand from her hair and placed their palms together. Sesshoumaru didn't move, breath stilling as his mother's fingers twitched, then slowly relaxed in his grasp.
"He means you no harm," Kagome murmured, "you can trust him."
The youkai's eyes darted around, unseeing, but there was a probe of youki—one Sesshoumaru immediately answered.
