Birds soared high up in the sky. The sun beamed down warmly and gently, streaks of smeared blood stretching across the clouds. The air was cool and crisp. You were running and tripping, flashing that foxy fanged grin at me. You were barefoot and splashing about in the shallow water, shimmering droplets lighting your hair like diamonds.
The horizon spread out like it would never end and the world all around us was silent except for your laughter. You jogged back to my side and collapsed, panting and wheezing with laughter, short of breath. You put your lips to my forehead, a firm comforting pressure reminding of the gift that I had always longed for, the gift that you finally offered me. Sitting shoulder to shoulder, you basked in the light while I remained sitting and staring at the sparkling sea the colour of your eyes. My hand sought yours and you smiled brighter than the sun.
We wrote our names in the sand and watched as the waves carried it away.
