This was her favorite.

The comfortable silence of the early morning, no one else awake, just her. She was able to drink her morning tea and listen to soft chirps of the birds as they flitted about the backyard. Spring was by far her favorite time of year, the mornings were cool and the afternoons warm.

Spring felt like a time for new beginnings.

Their first wedding anniversary had been just a few months ago, it had been a wonderful first year of marriage.

They had overcome so much on their way to getting married, it had been a beautiful but simple ceremony. They didn't need the big fancy wedding, nor did they need to spend the thousands of dollars that went hand in hand with a big wedding.

They needed that money to renovate their house, it was a solid house but was in serious need of an update.

The house had fallen into disrepair, the appliances needed to be replaced, it needed a new roof and dozen other minor repairs.

The first year in the house was a bit rough, it wasn't fun living in a house as it was being remodeled but they made it work.

Mack's bedroom had been the first and easiest to redo, they replaced the carpeting with wood flooring and a cute throw rug. She agonized over what color to paint her room and ultimately settled on a really pretty shade of lavender for the accent wall and a gray for the other three walls. They purchased a new bedroom set as well, she wanted a bunk bed for sleepovers and a desk for doing her homework.

The master bedroom followed Mack's room, both bathrooms were done next, followed by the living room. The kitchen and dining room had been last and took the longest amount of time.

It resulted in a lot of take out food being consumed and frequent visits to restaurants, it grew old fast and both Kim and Adam were relieved when the remodel was completed.

Early on in their marriage they decided to table the idea of expanding their family until after their first anniversary, things were chaotic during the remodel and the thought of being pregnant during all of it wasn't appealing to Kim.

They wanted to settle into a groove as husband and wife and focus on Makayla, she had been through so much and deserved to be the center of attention for a bit.

Which is exactly what they did, Adam officially adopted her and took their first family vacation to Disney world instead of a honeymoon. They had never seen Makayla so excited and it had been a perfect vacation and exactly what they had needed. Adam had embraced being a 'Disney Dad' and was all in on the matching T-shirt's and even donned mouse ears for cute family photos in front of the castle.

They were currently deep in the trenches of Operation Knocked Up.

The phrase still made her chuckle.

"You know…" Adam poked his head out of the bathroom door, his hair wet a towel barely tied around waist, "…we are at fourteen months of wedded bliss."

Kim flipped through the pages of a gossip magazine, "And?" She barely looked up at him, "your point would be?"

"It's time." He replied, "It's time to start trying."

She tossed the magazine on the bed and kicked the covers off, "Trying for what?" She teased, she grabbed the loose knot of the towel, "Are you asking for some morning sex?" She kissed his cheek, "..because I'm totally down for that."

It had been a fun morning and as they lay in bed that morning Adam had coined the phrase.

"Operation Knocked Up has begun." Adam ran his hand down the length of Kim's back, "I could get used to having my day start off with a bang."

Kim looked up at him, "Um operation knocked up?"

"Yea." Adam shrugged, "That's our goal right? Getting you knocked up. This is serious work, darlin'."

"You're an idiot, you know that right?"

They were four months in and still waiting for results.

Kim heard the sound of the backdoor open and then felt his hands come to rest on her shoulders, "Hey baby." She said as he pressed his lips against her cheek, "did you sleep well?"

He moved to sit in the chair opposite her, his back to the yard, "I did. You?"

"Mmm." Kim hummed against her cup of tea, "Mack still sleeping?"

Adam dumped two packets of sugar into the cup of coffee had brought outside with him, "Door was closed and I didn't hear the television. I'm guessing she's still out cold." His gaze drifted to the box on the picnic table.

The back deck had quickly become their favorite place, they ate many meals at the table and spent a lot of time watching Makayla play with her friends, or just sat together after Mack had gone to bed.

Kim knew he spotted the box, she moved to grab it "I haven't taken it yet."

"Do you think…" he paused, "…are you late?"

Kim nodded, "Just a few days. I don't know if I should take it. It's kind of early. I don't want to take it too soon but I'm also dying to take it. If that makes any sense."

Adam finished off his coffee, "It does." he reached over and it took it from her, "I think you should take it, Kim. You know as well as I do that not knowing will eat you alive. Take it. If it's too early, you'll get a negative result and we will get back at it. If it's positive we will celebrate and get back at it."

Kim laughed at him, he was very matter of fact about it, "You've got all the answers don't you?"

"I do. Aren't you happy you married me.?" He dropped the test in her lap, "Seriously though, take the test Kim." He told her, "Go piss on the stick."

"You're disgusting."

She did just that.

The test sat on the bathroom counter waiting for Kim and Adam to return.

"It's time." Adam told her, they had spent the last seven minutes sitting on the edge of their bed, staring at the closed door of the master bathroom. Kim had insisted on closing the door as she needed to keep herself from flipping the stick over too soon.

"I'm nervous.." Kim said, "I flipped over the last one. You should look at this one first"

Adam nodded in agreement. "let's go find out." He opened the door and picked the test up, he closed his hand over it and turned to Kim, "I love you, you know." He leaned in and kissed her quickly before opening his hand and looking at the test. He took a few deep breaths and looked up at Kim, "…baby it's negative"

Kim sighed, "Oh. Okay." She tried to sound upbeat but she had felt as if the air had been sucked from the room and it was clear she was disappointed.

Adam was too but he didn't dare show it, he knew she was starting to struggle a bit with the string of negative tests.

"It's okay Darlin', it just means we need to keep it at. Practice makes perfect after all."

His comment had hit the mark and brought a smile to Kim's face, "we will be experts in no time."

"Speak for yourself, I'm already an expert." Adam teased, "Let me show you."

I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of this one! I had a lot of fun writing this story and I'm happy to say this one has already been completed. If you've read any of my most recent stories you know completing a story hasn't been easy for me as of late.

This one gets a bit risqué in future chapters, which is something I don't typically do. It's nothing crazy though just pushing the envelope a bit more than I usually do. Hopefully it's not awful lol.

Updates will posted every Sunday.

As always thanks for reading!
