The Train
By Phoenix Ash
A.N. This takes place approximately six hours before the events in The Last Ride.
"Looks like rain." Jimmy Peakes grumbled as he settled into the seat opposite Dennis Creevy and Gabrielle Delacour.
"It eez very depressing." Gabrielle replied. Jimmy just ignored her. The French girl had been visiting Hogwarts for the year and had soon made friends with Jimmy and Dennis, even though the latter boy was a year apart from the former.
Not but two days ago, Voldemort's forces had attacked Hogsmeade and the city fell within a day. All students under the age of fourteen, except for the D.A. had been evacuated on the Hogwarts Express, which was also transporting Hogsmeade citizens, fatally injured Order Members (which they were technically not supposed to know about the order, but being in the D.A. had its advantages), and the dead.
Dennis had been given the assignment to oversee the evacuation, and therefore, not able to assist the D.A. for what they planned.
"Look at the school, for it could be the last time we see it like this." Dennis said, hoarsely. The train started to move, the whistle giving forth a cry that Jimmy swore resembled a mournful cry of the phoenix.
Several second years bustled in, revealing a full corridor of students trying to find seats. They looked terrified.
This is a train full of fear. Jimmy thought. He knew he was right. Even he was scared. People he worked with, fought with, laughed with, taught with were going to die and he couldn't do anything about it. He could smell the fear, almost taste the salty taste of tears in the air. He wished he could fight with them and die with them, but instead, he was here, helping Dennis with sending those to young to fight to safety.
Dennis and Gabrielle gave up their seats and sat next to Jimmy, the French girl clutching to Dennis for dear life. He looked so reserved, so headstrong.
The train had just left the platform, giving forth one more salute with its whistle, a salute to those who would be marching to their impending doom.
One of the second years started to cry. The others comforted her. All the older trio could do was look grim.
This train is full of fear and tears. Jimmy thought. Dennis, Gabrielle, and Jimmy watched the skies.
