CHAPTER SIX
Isaac
He stopped moving. He could clearly see her from where he stood, and for a moment he thought she could see him too. He took another step closer only to confirm his suspicions.
She could not see him, but she was aware of his presence. He stopped completely. He knew that his movements were scaring her, and he wasn't exactly hoping to be struck by a speaker magician. He remained still in the shadows of the forest, waiting for her eyes to adjust and see him.
It only took a few seconds, but then he could see the difference. Her eyes met his. She saw him.
"Exactly how long do you plan to stand there?" she demanded. Her stance still had not changed, she was ready to fight if he so chose to strike first.
Isaac stepped out at last. He moved slowly and so very poised. He paid close attention to not watch her but see her. His eyes remained cold and distant. This was not a visit of pleasantries, he meant business.
"Stay in the shadows," he said, his voice soft almost a whisper.
Sypha frowned. She was out in the open, there were no shadows around her. Then it occurred to her, he was not alone. "You and who else is here?"
Isaac kept his movements slow. He turned his hands outwards and revealed the emptiness of his palms. He was not here to battle her. "They are running a perimeter as we speak," he answered.
Sypha tensed as small flames appeared to breathe life on her fingertips, "They who?"
Isaac looked at her intently. There was something new about her. She was still the same powerful speaker magician he had known her to be. She was still radiating power and was not afraid to protect that which she found important.
However, something else was radiating from her. True, her womb was swollen and it was evident she was with child, but there was a certain aura about her that was new. She didn't just seem powerful, she was supreme.
And this was the first time in a long time that Isaac felt something move within him. It was a pull of strings within his chest. For the first time since he had seen Sypha, his expression changed. His eyes softened, his brows relaxed and his shoulders released all the tension he had been holding.
"The Nightcreatures," he answered. Sypha turned to check her surroundings but Isaac only shook his head, "We've come a long way to find you."
Sypha scoffed, "And now that you have, what exactly do you plan to do?"
Every word that she spoke felt like an invitation to a fight. Isaac only lowered his gaze and set it upon her unborn babe.
"Make sure that you live to see your child grow and prosper among his own kind."
Sypha remained silent, and Isaac couldn't help but smile. At last she was speechless. "We have traveled a long way to make sure that no harm comes to you. I might not have always been behind the right side of wars, but I do know that the future begins with you, your child, Trevor Belmont and Alucard. Therefore, my Nightcreatures will protect you and yours."
Sypha lowered her hands. She had taken a step back as Isaac had spoken. "Alucard and Trevor have not returned, it's been eight maybe nine hours since they were last seen."
Issac nodded his attention fully focused on Sypha. He swayed his hand and moved his fingers beside him to signal Flyseyes who was lurking in the shadows nearby. There was a scuttle and then Flyseyes was gone, he had accepted the mission.
"They will search for them immediately, and bring them back. For now, we must have you return to Dracula's castle at once. It will be the safest place for you there," he said as he began to guide her back in the direction of the town.
Sypha turned to look up at him. "Who do we need protection from?"
Isaac stopped walking. He turned to look into her eyes, wondering exactly what he might find in them. "Striga and Morana. They have been gathering their own army and spreading fear among all vampires."
Sypha frowned confused at the revelation. "But they chose not to fight all those months ago. What fear could they possibly be instilling?"
Isaac began to walk again and Sypha followed closely behind. "That the Belmont and Belnades heir will be the end of all immortals. An end to them." He turned to see Sypha who had stopped in her tracks.
She was not cradling her womb nor did she have fear in her eyes as he expected a new mother to be like. Instead she was glowing with embers. Her eyes piercing with something much more shocking than he had imagined. She had life itself within the soul of her eyes.
"Let them try to take what is mine," she growled.
