Kagome watched mother and son circle the garden, content to be in each other's company even if no words were uttered.

"Thank you," Kagura said, voice low.

"You don't have to thank me. I would've—"

Kagura covered her mouth, ruby eyes narrowing. "Would you just shut up and let me talk?" Her fingers smothered Kagome's laughter.

The wind youkai sighed, leaning back against the tree. "My existence started out in a cage, forced to do Naraku's dirty work in the hopes he might release me."

Kagome opened her mouth but was met by a glare, and it snapped shut again.

"I don't regret everything," she said, turning to gaze at her mate. "All things considered."
