Chapter 10: That girl is scary, but I don't care

Notes: If one day someone says that Hiro and Makima's relationship is forced, remember that these two took almost 10 chapters to meet. I've seen a lot of fanfics where the main couple already like each other from the first chapter and that has me fed up. In my stories I will always try not to use anything already generalized by others. So you can be sure that you will see development both as a couple and as characters.

Oops I think I just gave a big spoiler, but come on, this was seen from far away

Short summary of the previous chapter: Kishibe took Hiro to the Demon Hunter Research and Training Center, all in order to teach Hiro some basics of the hunter world before going to his meeting with Dr. And one. After finishing the little tour, Kishibe goes to the meeting with Yuna Nishimura, so he leaves the boy outside the office with the small hope that nothing happens to him. However, Makima finds Hiro and asks him to go with him to a place that might interest him.

O0O0

The only thing he could feel right now was the strange sensation when an elevator moves and the extreme discomfort there was in the place, or at least the discomfort he was feeling because she seemed to be happy with her life.

Why had he agreed to do this? Right now he was regretting her decision to leave the place where he would wait for Kishibe. But it was already too late, they were about 3 floors above the place and if he ran away who knows what this girl could do to him. Hiro might still be a child, but he knew very well that there was something wrong with Makima, something sinister and strange that he couldn't understand, and that terrified him but somehow also made him curious in a disturbing way, since it was leading him to take these kinds of risks. Apart from the fact that he appeared to her out of nowhere, she denoted an aura different from the rest, it was something combined with mystery, darkness and bad or good intentions.

The possibility that she might be something completely different from the rest made him nervous, not to say scared. Hiro was so nervous, that he even started to tremble a little, something that was noticed and felt by Makima since she still hadn't let go of his hand and neither had he because at the same time it was a way of feeling less scared because of how soft and warm it was he was becoming, why was irony always present in his life?

Makima looked at Hiro with a curious and fascinated look, it was the first time she had seen another child her age so closely, she always saw them on television or on the street from the top of the building, but now she had one so close had even come to interact with him.

What would Doctor Yuna think of her? She couldn't know for sure but she thought there was nothing wrong with talking to other humans, especially one who was the same age as her.

Basically she was excited, since she saw Hiro get out of that hunter's car she felt attracted, it was the first time that another child had stepped on this facility in a long time. They probably wouldn't have much time before they left, so he would show Hiro some things that entertained her, and he could tell her the things that he likes to do with her.

Why isn't that what little kids do in the movies?

The environment for her felt comfortable and normal, the whole place was completely quiet with the two of them holding hands with her and with her feeling her scent even though she didn't have her nose on her neck.

Speaking of her scent, the scent that Hiro gave off was not something she had ever come across, many scents she smelled always had that strange feeling that she had smelled them before. That was because she must have come across that smell before in the past in one of her many past lives.

But Hiro was one of those special cases that made her curious and excited, her scent was something she had never experienced before and that attracted her to him, it was something that made her nervous because it was the first time she had run into him. something like that. And not only that, but there was something strange in his scent, and for some reason, unlike Dr. Yuna and other people, Hiro's scent was much stronger than it should normally be for a human.

She began to think why but she couldn't think of anything, no human should have a smell as strong as Hiro's, she could probably smell it from more than a kilometer away but she would have to try it sometime.

At first she felt very reluctant to approach him, Yuna had told her yesterday that a hunter would come to the building so she would have to hide while she talked to the hunter. Makima obeyed but great was her surprise when she realized that the hunter did not come alone.

Several minutes before

Makima was sitting on one of the chairs in Dr. Yuna's office, she was reading a Japanese history book about the feudal era, the more she read the more she realized that she probably lived during those years because every tragic event that was mentioned felt that she had experienced it or that she had caused it. It was like deja vu but much stronger.

"You better hide now" mentioned Yuna who was sitting at her desk writing on some documents without even looking at Makima.

Makima lowered the book from her face and looked at Yuna with her yellow eyes around the edge of the book "I thought your meeting started at 8:30"

"Yes, but knowing that idiot, he will most likely come earlier than agreed" Yuna felt a tick in her eye at the thought of Kishibe and her problematic visit to this place.

Makima gave a small sigh before putting the book on one of the shelves and walking out the office door, her legs carried her to the elevator and she pressed the button that would take her to the library.

A few minutes passed before the doors opened to reveal a huge hallway almost identical to the previous one only this one had a darker theme with zero electricity lamps that were replaced with torches that were attached to the wall.

Yuna told him that she was the one who had this part of the building remodeled, which implied that she took her job as a demologist very seriously.

Makima was about to enter the library but stopped before knocking on the door, feeling reluctant and with a strange childlike curiosity, she backed away and walked over to the huge windows, wanting to see if she had a chance to see the hunter who was about to. to arrive

She finally saw how a car was parked in a free space in the parking lot, first a man got out whom she Makima knew instantly was the hunter by the way he was dressed. An alarm of danger was activated in her brain when she saw the man, that could already say a lot about him for her.

It was likely that she had encountered this hunter in the past and she was pretty sure her encounter was not a friendly one. Makima felt a kind of resentment and hatred towards this man, she did not know why since her memories of her past lives were blocked but she knew deep down that this hunter was a potential danger that she should be aware of. watch out.

She was also a bit scared by the fact that she probably couldn't defend herself against him in her current state if he tried something, she felt that unlike the hunter who took the picture of her that time, this hunter couldn't be easy to kill, maybe if he was older but still very young and he could feel great anger and evil directed towards the demons radiating from him even though they were far away.

"I feel like I have to take care of him, it's like he has the word danger written all over his body and only I can see it"

Makima stared at him intently from her position trying to somehow burn him with her eyes but in doing so the man turned her gaze to the window she was looking at him through. That surprised her, she didn't expect that he could feel her gaze even though the tint of her glasses was camouflaging it. She just kept looking at him wondering if he really knew she was here or if he was just casually looking at the building. Her suspicions became real when the man got a look that she could only describe as hostility, his eyes narrowed and hers too. It was as if two potential predators were staring each other down, waiting for one of them to strike first. She saw that her lips moved a little, as if she was speaking, that only meant something, he had demons with him, so they could feel it too.

However the hunter stopped looking towards the window for someone else who had caught his attention, someone that Makima had not noticed until now and when Makima saw who it was her eyes widened and all hostility disappeared from her being replaced out of wonder and fascination.

Her mouth dropped a little from the huge surprise she got when she saw a boy get out of the same car as the hunter. He was a boy, just like her, his hair was black but she could see from here that her eyes were blue.

Makima couldn't believe it, the hunter was accompanied by a child, she had never seen a child her age entering these facilities, much less with a hunter.

It was someone she could talk to if her intention was to get here, a sense of excitement and nervousness grew in Makima as she realized that she would finally have the opportunity to interact with someone just like her, and Makima couldn't say for sure but there was something in him that made her feel a strange sensation in her stomach.

She immediately took it as part of a joy that she hadn't known until now and that she probably hadn't felt until now since all of this felt like a new and joyful sensation plus by now she was very hard to describe. She thought for a moment that it was just a momentary childhood happiness but it didn't go away, thinking that she could talk about different things with this child made her inexplicably happy, it was probably due to the fact that he was a new person but she had seen him before the rest of the staff and they didn't impress her at all, but now that she saw that boy it made her smile.

It was as if this kid had been meant to thrill her from the start.

Or it was probably just because she had seen a lot of movies and seeing a kid her age was like seeing a rare specimen up close.

She would consider both theories when talking to him.

She lost sight of both of them as they entered the building, Makima felt her heart sink a little as she lost sight of the boy, but she instantly sensed a scent coming from somewhere in the building.

It was fast and strong, she theorized that the smell could come from somewhere below because the aroma was too strong, so much so that she had to hold his nose for a moment because of how strong it was becoming, but the more the seconds passed the more he he was getting used to this smell she was even liking it.

Makima thought for a moment that the smell probably came from the boy who entered the building, that explained why she started to smell it right after he and the hunter entered the building. Makima took a quick look at the wall clock that was hanging at the entrance of the library, it was 7:50 at the moment, there were still 40 minutes left before the sour-faced hunter met with Yuna, she could wait until that moment to talk to the boy who was intriguing her more and more.

Although she later wondered why a child would enter these facilities, Yuna told her that experimenting with minors stopped many years ago and that she did not count because she was practically not entirely human, besides only Yuna and some people with a higher rank, they knew she was here. It seemed strange to him that a demon hunter would enter with a kid if it was not to throw him into hell as a sacrifice, for the moment she was far from having an answer to that, she would just have to wait until the right moment and wait for both of them not to enter in Yuna's office.

"I was right, this day was going to be a lot of fun"

Makima was lucky when she found the boy completely alone sitting in one of the waiting chairs apparently bored, she had managed to sneak through the ventilation ducts to get here and quietly climbed down a crack, she only had to be guided by the smell and finally was able to find his target, she had to admit that seeing another boy his age was more impressive up close.

She meant it because she was only about two seats away from him, apparently he hadn't noticed her because he was more busy complaining about how boring this place was, or maybe she was just too good at being sneaky.

She chuckled to herself at the pouting he was making, they seemed cute to her.

"There's literally nothing to do here," she heard him say.

She took this as an opportunity to strike up a conversation. She was already sitting directly next to him looking up at him with a quiet smile, her yellow eyes sparkling a little with a strange feeling. It was probably emotion, or maybe something else she still didn't understand.

"Oh but there are many wonderful things to see in this place"

Present

Makima couldn't help but smile sweetly knowing that he had gotten out of his way, although she knew very well that his actions would have consequences, that would be a problem she would deal with in the future.

For now she was going to enjoy all the time she had with Hiro, whether he wanted to or not. Although at the moment he seemed like he was up for anything.

Meanwhile Hiro kept telling himself that this had become one of the many mistakes he had made in his life, he would definitely add it to his list of things not to do again.

'Maybe I can decline her offer and not go wherever she takes me, but...' Hiro gave Makima a brief glance, she seemed happy, actually he wasn't sure if she was always happy or if she was. I was only happy until this day. He reasoned and thought that hardly anyone could be happy living in this kind of place. Especially when you're a demon.

Hiro wasn't 100% sure about that last one, but that alone explained Makima's strange behavior and the inexplicable reason for how she managed to get to him without him sensing her. Also, there was something strange in her eyes and Hiro noticed it the first time he saw her and from time to time in the elevator; her eyes were yellow, a color not so common in people, he knew perfectly well that the possibility of someone being born with yellow eyes was very unlikely.

Perhaps the strangest and most chilling thing about his eyes was the fact that she had no pupils, instead she had spirals in her eyes that reminded him a lot of hypnotization wheels.

Hiro couldn't tell exactly what was Makima, he didn't know if she was a demon but he was sure she wasn't human either, at least not entirely.

"Umm, excuse me" Hiro started talking trying to start a conversation, partly because he wanted to know where she was taking him and because the atmosphere was getting awkward "Where are we going exactly?"

Makima smiled more, glad that he was willing to talk to her one more time "Well it's just a place where I like to hang out, you'll see"

"Okay…" that didn't make him feel any safer, it would probably take him to some dark dungeon full of torture instruments made to make him suffer.

Hiro flinched again as he realized something, when would the Kishibe meeting end? He had absolutely no idea when Kishibe would walk out of that office to find him missing. It would probably be hours but there was also the possibility that it would only be minutes.

If it were hours then by that time he would already be cut into pieces or he would be anything depending on what this girl was going to do to him; but if it was minutes then Kishibe would have already left the office by this point.

Hiro had to resist the urge to laugh at Kishibe's face seeing that he had run away when only seconds before he had told him to stay in his place, it was kind of bizarre to think about it now knowing that he was probably being led to his own death. the.

'Kishibe wherever you are I hope you hurry up'

Office of Dr. Yuna Nishimura.

Kishibe knew that he had chosen his words well because even Yuna's gaze had turned grim and wary with a hint of irritation, he had seen that gaze before, it always reminded him that he approached Quanxi with the intention of asking her out on a date.

She was already telling him everything just by looking at him, by doing that he didn't have to ramble all the time with her about what she did in this facility, he just wanted her to say it in her own words, the chilling fact that he many Sometimes he wished it wasn't real, he wanted to think that the government wasn't really stupid enough to train the demon of control to use it as a weapon.

Unfortunately it was all true, sadly it was, even her own demons could feel it. She was in this place, there was no longer any doubt.

"I imagine you also found it useless to ramble on about this, didn't you?" Yuna said, her gaze did not change.

Kishibe nodded "Yes, I want you to be direct with me too, because to tell the truth doing that would get me too bored"

"The bible says: 'And the truth will set you free' But tell me, Kishibe, how do you think the truth will really make you feel?"

"I don't know, maybe terrified, disappointed and wanting to get drunk until my mind breaks"

Yuna smiled but coldly "You are still the same man who left the field of entertainment many years ago, even though your mind and way of thinking have changed over the years, your love for drinking remains the same"

"And you're still the same crazy person who likes to do all kinds of experiments" Kishibe frowned more showing his anger "I don't care what the truth causes me, I'm here to find out anyway, I want you to tell me Yuna... Do you have the demon of control in your power, don't you?"

Even though she knew Kishibe was going to ask her that question, she still felt as if he had taken her by surprise. Yuna clenched her fist feeling angry and powerless that she hadn't managed to keep this a secret, she knew this day would come but she didn't expect it to be so early, the government had told her to keep the secret from the other hunters until Makima was older, but she was only 10 years old, not even old enough to be considered a teenager.

Although she knew long before that it would be difficult to keep this project a secret from people like Kishibe, she was very angry that he meddled in matters that did not concern him. She knew very well about Kishibe's past and how he had gotten involved with the demon of control, but it was no excuse for him to meddle in government business and her personal business.

Why couldn't he just let it slide like all the other things they did in this place? He had always been a splinter in her finger, he always believed he was right in everything about her and was always disrespectful to her and almost all of her staff.

Yuna made an audible growl, his teeth clenched "You're despicable, you know that?" she let out a big sigh, at this point it was going to be useless to tell a lie.

"Yes, we have the control demon in this facility, she is a girl. And I named her Makima" she smiled saying that last one.

"Oh shit, they really weren't lying"

"I told you"

Kishibe's eyes now didn't shine with any kind of emotion, actually hearing it from Yuna's words was much worse than he imagined. He wasn't scared, that fear was long gone, now he was just disappointed. Disappointed that despite everything the control demon had done everyone was willing to study it and weaponize it. But he was also disappointed in himself, because this also showed that he was weak, because he didn't completely finish off the demon of control many years ago when he had the chance; it would go down as one of the things Kishibe was ashamed of or regretted.

This only showed that human stupidity had no limits, because one thing was to study the demons that were locked in vaults and 20 meters underground, but another thing was to study a demon that can do anything just by looking into your eyes .

Many do not see it that way, many believe that there are much more dangerous demons but it is because they have never faced the demon of control when it is at its full potential.

Makima is probably just a vestige of what he really is now, why couldn't Yuna see it? She and the others were crazy, one day this would all end in the worst possible way because they have no idea what she is really like.

They were doomed, that was an irrefutable fact.

"You are idiots"

The elevator doors finally opened with a ding indicating that they had reached the desired floor. Hiro felt that the time in that elevator was like an eternity, probably due to the extreme silence that was there most of the time, but apparently it only affected him since the girl who was holding his hand kept smiling as if they were playing in a park.

The hallway they entered was a completely different one Hiro had seen so far, there were torches attached to the sides of the walls, they gave out a light strong enough to be seen but not enough to fully illuminate the entire room. place. And even though there was a fire it felt a little cold, it was a chilling cold that made Hiro shudder with fear and how cold he was.

At the end of the corridor there was a large wooden door with two entrances, on it was engraved the drawing of a 9-pointed star with each point darker than the other. Below the drawing were some scribbles that Hiro couldn't understand.

"What is this place?" Hiro questioned looking at everything with his blue eyes.

Makima guided him while she was in front but still holding her hand, Hiro considered that maybe she was doing it so he wouldn't feel afraid, it would work... if her hand wasn't so cold.

"This is just the hallway that leads to the demology library" Makima replied.

Hiro had heard that word before, the receptionist had mentioned it when they entered the building.

"What is demology?"

Makima looked at him like he was crazy, with a raised eyebrow and her eyes a little wider "Don't you know what demology is?"

"Uh, sorry I guess not, I'm not that familiar with these things" Hiro rubbed the back of his head looking a little embarrassed, his cheeks were a little pink and Makima couldn't help but look in amazement.

'Well that's cute'

"Well basically it's the study and practice of satanic or demonic arts, as well as the study of demons, their relationships and their origins" he told her calmly as if they were talking about the weather.

Hiro felt his brain die as he heard Makima's explanation "What the hell...?" he said as a bad word came out.

Makima shrugged her shoulders "Of any kind, either those that come to earth or those that are still being studied despite the fact that they are not recorded"

'I think she misunderstood my words' Hiro thought with a drop of sweat as they reached the end of the corridor.

At the end of the corridor there was a large wooden door with two entrances, on it was engraved the drawing of a 9-pointed star with each one of the points darker than the other. Below the drawing were written some words that Hiro interpreted as simple scribbles since he didn't understand what language they were.

"W7ow" was all Hiro said.

Makima smirked at him "It's beautiful isn't it?"

Hiro had to agree, the way the star was drawn looked very professional, like an experienced painter had done it.

"It is, but why draw something like that in this place, and what are those scribbles written below?" he said pointing with his free hand at the pile of letters he couldn't understand "They don't look like Kanji at all"

אלוהים יברך את הנשמות התמימות שעוברות על פני הדלתות הללו. כי צעדיהם ידרסו

ארצות ארורות הרחק מאור הישועה.

'Yes, I'm sure I've never come across that kind of drawing in my life'

Makima laughed and Hiro again couldn't help but look at her like an idiot 'Oh no...she's definitely doing something to me'

"You weren't lying when you said you weren't as familiar with this kind of thing as I am. Well Hiro that 9 pointed star was drawn and painted by a priest, the points of the star represent the 9 circles of hell described in the Divine Comedy of Dante. And what is written below are not scribbles, they are words written in Hebrew and they say: God bless those innocent souls who pass these doors. For their steps will be stepping on cursed lands far from the light of salvation "

Makima let out a sigh after his explanation, looked at Hiro and realized that he was as still as a statue, but because he was holding his hand and could feel his pulse, she would have thought that he he was already dead

But he could see that his mouth was moving, murmuring some things.

"Circles of Hell...Dante...Innocent souls? Light of salvation?" Hiro was saying.

His mind was overloaded right now and he didn't know what to think clearly, what did he mean with what cursed lands? Was everything there harmful to him?

With that thought Hiro felt even more reluctant to enter that library, he thought for a moment what he meant by 'innocent souls' was probably a way of saying that only those who weren't quite normal had a chance to get out of this. place with a sane mind. He still considered that Makima could be something more than human so that would explain why the message didn't affect her.

Because she didn't seem like an innocent soul.

And neither did he if he thought about her past and the fact that he lives with a man in his thirties who kills demons every night.

Even so, he was not going to enter that room in a crazy way.

Wait a second...

"Hey wait! Is this where you were planning to bring me because you said it was a place I might be interested in!?" Hiro exclaimed realizing the place he liked to visit Makima.

She nodded fervently, brushing aside the fear and disbelief of her new friend "That's right! Come on, there's no time to waste"

Hiro, out of pure survival instinct, tried to get out of Makima's grip but discovered that she was holding him with great force, it felt as if his hand was trapped in cement since not even by his movements did Makima's arm move 'What! the hell is wrong with this girl!?'

Makima opened the door with her free hand and the sound of the door screeching echoed throughout the room, instantly a gust of wind blew out of the room causing Hiro to shiver. He saw that the entire room was completely bathed in darkness, there was no light, that gave more meaning to the final sentence of the door.

Hiro began to imagine in his mind what the demology library was like, he imagined torches with fire placed on the wall along with ancient chairs and tables, paintings of demons pasted on the walls along with signs of demons that he surely would not understand but knew they were a bad omen.

"Normally I like to read in the dark and with a lit candle, but I'll turn on the lights this time" Makima said and with her free hand she took a remote control with a few buttons from her pocket, pressed one and instantly the library lights they lit up with a brilliant white light.

When the light finally brightened, Hiro could see the entire room clearly. It was not at all how he had imagined it, at least not 100%.

The ceiling was off-white and white tube lights were attached above which provided the copious amounts of light. The floor had a beautiful white tile that reflected the light from the ceiling, the bookcases were a dark gray, in the middle was a long rectangular white table with gold Victorian patterned chairs backed with ivory pillows. pure white.

However, the only thing that seemed to be out of place was the contents of the shelves, the books that were placed there looked old and very worn.

"Oh," the boy let out, all the fear in him seeming to vanish in a blink, because this was not what he imagined a library full of devilish books would be like.

"Hmm?" Makima looked at Hiro because of his strange reaction.

"Eeeeh it's nothing" he waved his hand indicating that he won't pay attention to him.

Makima let him pass and went with him into the library. Hiro looked around the place appreciating how beautiful and elegant it was, he also noticed that there were small air conditioning machines on the walls, that explained why it was cold and the sudden gust of wind.

Makima guided Hiro to the table "Sit down, I'll go get some books so we can read" she pointed to a chair and for the first time in all the time they had been together she released her hand, leaving him with her hand frozen.

Hiro sat on one of the chairs with some skepticism but in the end he obeyed because he wasn't sure how Makima would accept disobedience.

"I'll be right back" with that said she disappeared further into the library and leaving him alone with a shocking silence.

Hiro looked at the door again and realized that it was still open... he considered his chances of getting out of it alive and with all his limbs attached to his body. If he was quick he could get out the door and get to the elevator and down to where Kishibe was, only then would he be safe.

But there were cons that could prevent him from making it to safety, and that was the fact that he wasn't fast and athletic enough to get to the elevator safely and quickly. And the other thing was that Makima might try something if he saw that he was running away, he didn't know what he would do to her but it sure wouldn't be pretty.

The second option was also reliable but very risky: it consisted of continuing as is until now. He just had to play along with Makima and do whatever she wanted to do with him, if he was good and earned her trust then she would let him live, because until now he had treated him well and had not tried anything bad besides causing him harm. little scary.

But the downside of this option was that there was also a good chance that she would kill him, because he couldn't read her exactly, everything about her was a mystery and that didn't help him to get an idea of her true intentions. .

He just had to be very lucky in this... And maybe he would make it out alive.

0O0O

Yuna rolled her eyes, one of her fingers was scratching the table in a show of impatience, she just wanted Kishibe to get out of her office once and for all.

"Call us what you want, anyway we have better things than listening to your opinions. Although of course that only applies to me"

Kishibe was staring at her so intently with his dark and empty eyes "I really can't believe you agreed to this project Yuna. But to further disappoint me, tell me what exactly the plan to train the control demon is about"

Yuna sighed being bored with the tone this conversation was turning into "Why should I tell you in the first place?"

"I have the right to know, after all we have a past that I wanted to erase from my memory, and I also want to know why they made such a hasty and stupid decision"

If looks could kill, surely Yuna would already be in jail. The way she looked at Kishibe was pure anger, this man always made her angry and even today when she hadn't seen each other for a long time.

"Okay I'll tell you" she said with a growl, she straightened up in her seat before speaking with a serious and professional tone.

"Today people are afraid of many things, that fear, as you know, becomes what we know as demons. Our most useful weapon against these beings are the hunters who are specially trained to eradicate this plague. However, The Hunter Council has come to a conclusion, and not only us, but also the council of other nations such as the United States and Russia."

Kishibe felt nerves running through his entire body. "And that's it?"

Yuna was no longer looking at Kishibe but now her eyes fell on the table in her office "That humans are no longer enough to get rid of demons"

Kishibe frowned "Of course not, they never were if you ask me. But for a reason we make contracts with demons every day, we use their forces in exchange for whatever they want"

Yuna's left eye was trembling with irritation, she closed her eyes and sighed trying to calm down "Let me finish. That's why the government ordered us to create contingency plans to avoid massive catastrophes, because I'm very sure that the day will come when everyone the hunters will die and there will be no one to deal with the demons..."

"You're digressing" Kishibe told her taking a sip from her flask.

"Shut!" she cleared her throat "So I proposed a project that would be done in secret... Although in the end it wasn't all a secret since even Russia is trying the same thing. Anyway, the project consisted of combining human force, with the power of demons"

Kishibe's eyes were widening slightly understanding where all of Yuna's explanation was going, they wouldn't do such a thing right?

"We want to create Hybrids"

"Okeyyyy, that's new" Kishibe wasn't quite sure how to represent how he felt about this revelation. He was surprised that they were willing to do such things with people, if he thought about it clearly, it didn't seem like a bad idea, the only thing he didn't make sense of was how Makima fit into all of that, she wasn't a hybrid , was a demon in the form of a human and he was sure they were not the same thing.

"And what does the demon of control have to do with all this?"

"Makima is just the beginning, it's not exactly what we should start with since she's not a hybrid. To be considered a hybrid her mind would have to be that of a human and her powers would be that of a demon, but since she's not So I can't classify it as our first Hybrid, but we have it to use some references that will help us in the future when we officially start experiments on humans"

"And?"

Yuna smiled "I don't know where you get your information from, but yes, we plan to use it as a weapon as well. When Makima reaches a suitable age, she will join the demon hunter sections"

"Appropriate age? So she can age like a normal human?"

"Yes, fascinating, isn't it? Believe it or not, she can become very docile, you can teach her anything and she will learn it right away, although that is attributed to all the knowledge of her that she obtained in the past in previous lives.

Kishibe was reluctant to ask a question that had been bothering him for a long time, but even if it were confirmed he would still face danger as he always has.

"Tell me, does she have her memory intact of her?"

Yuna shook her head "No, her memories haven't surfaced, the first time she came here she didn't even know what hell was. She said she couldn't even imagine it which shows she has no glimpses of her past lives. Pitiful"

Kishibe sighed being relieved, he wasn't in the mood or the desire to fight a demon this day, he already had a lot to think about.

"His nose hasn't let him down though. She can seem to recognize the scents of things and people, she says she always gets the feeling she's sniffed that in the past. So yeah, she can probably recognize your scent, if it's who hasn't already" Yuna smiled with twisted amusement at Kishibe's bad luck.

"Oooooh, you're screwed"

"Only wake me up if we're going to kill someone"

Kishibe felt that there was someone in heaven, in the cosmos or in some universe who enjoyed seeing him suffer (xd) because if Makima could recognize his scent then he would be ready for whatever she would do, although there was also the possibility that she might In the end he didn't do anything, but he knew it was bad to trust women too much.

With Hiro and Makima.

"So... do you like to read?" Hiro asked sticking his head out of the huge book that Makima had given him to read, he couldn't read it since it was written in English and he wasn't taking those classes at his school yet. But apparently Makima did know that language since she was reading another book alongside him and she seemed very concentrated.

But when she heard her question she immediately turned her head towards him with a speed that seemed inhuman to Hiro.

"Yes, there are very interesting readings in these books that would surely interest you"

"As which?" Hiro asked for herself to teach him because she couldn't understand anything from the book she was holding in her hands. She was also weighing too much on him.

"Well... Like this book for example" she showed him the cover, it was a fairly large book, with a black but worn cover, from the outside he could see that the pages were yellow showing the wear and tear of time. The cover itself was simple, just a few words written in white and luckily for Hiro, in Kanji.

"The demons that lurk in our world and in hell"

XIV

It did not have the name of the author but it did have what seemed to be the year in which it began to be written. Hiro also thought the name was pretty simple for a book that dealt with demons and the supernatural.

(I am out of ideas)

"This book talks about all the demons of which there is more evidence, it could be said that it also talks about the most popular ones that have come to earth and with which few hunters have come across and lived to tell about it"

'What should I say now?' Hiro thought, he had to have a casual conversation with Makima so that she would feel comfortable and so that in the end she would let him live.

"And what is your favorite?" he said as if they were talking about superheroes, although surely Makima saw demons that way.

Makima smiled even more showing her white teeth a bit, she put the book back on the table and advanced a few pages until stopping more than halfway through the book.

"This" she pointed to a page, Hiro leaned in a little to see and his eyes widened in astonishment.

There, depicted in an ancient drawing was the humanoid form of a robust demon, probably measuring more than 2 meters, with several spikes on its head and back, its teeth were huge sharp spikes, the most remarkable thing about it was its 4 arms and in each one a chainsaw was sticking out, there was also one sticking out of the front of his head

-The Chainsaw Devil-

-The demon that all demons fear. Also known as the hero from hell-

"Chainsaw demon..." Hiro said the name and it felt appropriate if he saw the features on him.

Makima smiled happily seeing that Hiro was also fascinated with the strongest demon in hell "It's impressive I know"

"It is, but what makes it so special? I mean, at first glance it's scary, but why do you like it so much?"

Makima kept looking at him with a smile, Hiro wondered if Makima's face muscles didn't ache from smiling so much.

"You see, the chainsaw demon is well known and feared in all of hell for a reason, it has tremendous strength that goes beyond any other demon. But what makes it really special is that when a demon is eaten by him, it disappears of the phases of existence, they does not reincarnate on earth or in hell, and consequently they also disappears from the memories of those who once saw them and spoke of them" Makima looked at the drawing of the demon with fascination and what Hiro could deduct as admiration.

"That's why it's impressive," she finished as she leaned back in his seat.

Hiro was more than amazed by the power that a single demon could possess, this showed that the power of demons reached beyond human existence. Eating something and consequently disappearing from the face of the earth and from the memories of others was undoubtedly something extraordinary.

With that Hiro began to reconsider, for the first time in 3 years, the option of becoming a hunter. There was something else out there, or perhaps there would be, that would prevent her from achieving his goals; he would probably die on his first mission and not be able to save anyone. The demons had no limits and this demon demonstrated it.

The fact that there could be forces of darkness that could overcome him even though he could train for years terrified him to death, not because of dying, but because he wouldn't be able to achieve what he wanted in the first place.

"Hey" Makima cut his train of thought, Hiro looked at her and realized with a huge surprise that he wasn't smiling. His face was serious, his lip a thin thin line.

She got down from his seat and Hiro felt he should do the same, they were both standing now staring at each other. Hiro was getting more and more uncomfortable as Makima looked at him, it really was easier to look at her when she was smiling at him.

"Wha-what's wrong?" he asked her.

Her expression didn't change "You and I... Are we friends?" was her question, Makima wanted to get that question out of her head. She was trying, she really wanted to make Hiro feel that she could be a friend to him.

But despite everything, she felt that something was missing, she couldn't explain it, but she could feel happy to have him here, but she felt that he wasn't happy. That worried her, she didn't want him to feel bad, so she asked him that question to try to find out if he was having a good time.

Hiro, on the other hand, did not expect Makima's question at all, she caught him off guard, what could she say to him? She knew very well that depending on the answer he would get out of here alive. So she had to say it, even if he wasn't so sure of the answer.

But if she ultimately left him alive then maybe... Maybe she could make an exception.

"Well...Yeah, I guess we're friends" she told her and she summoned all her strength to form a smile.

Makima's eyes widened in surprise at Hiro's answer, her eyes began to have that shine that seemed to characterize her again, and the ghost of a smile was creeping up on her face. And finally it turned into a warm smile that could almost light up a single dark room. Or that was what Hiro thought while he watched her fascinated.

Her heart was beating a little faster and a warm sensation filled her being, so much so that he made her smile. So she hadn't failed, she had done things well in the end, if Hiro said they were friends with her then he had fun with her even though it was only for a few moments, and thanks to that he got the prize from her.. .

The first friend of hers.

"Thank you" was the only thing she said to him, completely ignoring the trace of a tear that fell on her cheek.

Hiro blushed at the scene in front of him, Makima had a beautiful smile and if she thought about it, maybe this was a sincere smile, she was showing it right now. It showed that her feelings of being her friend were genuine, there was probably nothing wrong with her, or she just didn't want to do anything wrong to him. He could calm down a bit with that thought.

Maybe... It couldn't matter what Makima really was, she just wanted to be her friend. He, with all the bravery of him that a 10-year-old could offer him, could be.

"Hey... why are you crying?" Hiro asked concerned seeing how more tears came out of the girl.

Makima immediately put a hand to her cheek and sure enough, she was crying "Huh?" she expressed confused.

Why was she crying? She couldn't understand it, something bad was happening to her...

'Oh' she then she understood it she remembered one of her greatest desires since she had a consciousness of her own. A desire that took root in her and that grew stronger when she watched those movies.

One that she would probably never get to experience.

"I… It's just… I just don't know what it feels like" she said, her voice cracking.

Hiro at this point started to worry a lot more "Huh? What do you mean?"

"This is all new to me... I never think I've ever experienced anything like this, most of the bonds I create are always out of fear... But now that you've told me that I'm your friend..." a sob broke from her he escaped and Hiro felt his heart break.

'Nooses of fear?'

"I-I can't help but feel happy, I've always wanted something like that. A family... Someone I can understand myself with, someone just like me" she felt pathetic, she wasn't supposed to cry, that made her look weak in front of someone , or at least that was what Yuna told him. Showing feelings to others would only make her vulnerable.

However, her lips kept moving.

"I have seen in the movies that many people live happily with the ones they love, they live like this until they die, they do all kinds of things, like hug each other... I have never felt that kind of thing, what it is to have a mother, a father, a brother... But now that I have a friend I feel like everything is overflowing now" Makima held her right arm with her left hand in an attempt to comfort herself, sobs and tears still coming out of her. when she ordered herself to stop.

Hiro was listening to everything he was saying, he couldn't help but feel sad for her. He may have lived through hard things at a young age, but at least he had his parents, and when he lost them he was able to find a small family with Kishibe and Quanxi.

But Makima didn't have any of that according to her, that made him very sad, no one should live like that. Hiro thought that she Makima must be an orphan, maybe she never had another friend to interact with, that's why this topic made her as sad as she was now.

He looked at Makima, no longer seeming to be the girl who approached him with a charming smile and inviting him to spend some time with her. No, now he saw a girl completely destroyed, someone who had not received any affection in who knows how long, someone who denoted an aura of sadness. The more he looked at her he couldn't help but see himself, in those days when his parents died he was the same way, sad and wanting to escape from the harsh reality.

She was someone Hiro was willing to help, and if being her friend would make her happy, then she definitely would be.

Hiro took a step, Makima didn't move from her place, so Hiro moved further until he was closer to her and mustering all the courage he could at that moment... he opened her arms, closed his arms. eyes.

And he hugged her.

"Hm? Strange..."

"What's wrong with you weirdo?"

"I feel a change in the environment, and in me, it is as if my whole being shuddered by itself"

"What? Hey wait... I CAN FEEL IT TOO!"

"It's Really Strange"

"Kishibe... Something bad is happening, it's like something is disturbing my senses, it's like an explosion of something unknown has been unleashed on the whole place"

"Ugh, really? I'm on a matter of the utmost importance...although now I'm getting bored and my flask is already empty."

"You have to...oh? it stopped"

"Look, it's probably just a nether demon causing a ruckus in his senses. Calm down anyway this is about to end."

Makima looked at the ceiling of the library, the lights were so white that they seemed to be the paradise that religious people always talk about. Added to that, the warm and cozy feeling he felt right now was like being in true paradise.

They were holding her, was this how she really felt? It was beautiful... Loving and really comfortable. Her eyes began to feel wet again, all the repressed emotions until now were coming out of her.

Hesitantly, she lifted her arms and returned the hug burying her face in Hiro's neck. She started to cry again, her sobs muffled by the boy's neck.

This was what she always longed for, she longed for in different lifetimes, and what she was feeling now. She finally got her wish, she was receiving love, something many demons always wanted but she was always denied. Now she could afford to enjoy it.

All thanks to Hiro, her friend.

Hiro held Makima while she cried, she really needed a hug and she thought she was right to provide it when she was crying in front of him.

No one should live a life like this, far from all the desires for love that surround the human being and that create the people they will be in the future. If no one was there for her, then he could be with her, helping her in any way he could so she wasn't unhappy.

He stroked her hair in an attempt to calm her down, it felt very soft and that's when Hiro could smell her and confirmed that she smelled like vanilla, one of her favorite scents.

'Hugging her feels so good, I could get used to this'

Hiro thought that in fact it had only been almost an hour since he met Makima and he had already become friends with her, it was strange, the time he spent with her felt like so much more.

"Thank you Hiro" Makima said suddenly when her sobs stopped "I really needed it, I wanted something like this for a long time"

Hiro allowed himself to smile "You're welcome, it's what friends do, they help each other"

"Yeah, I guess so" she let out a soft laugh "Your hugs are the best even though it's the first one I get"

Hiro didn't know if he should laugh or feel more sorry for her, so he just stroked her hair more to which she responded with a contented sigh.

Hiro raised one of her hands that had her digital watch, he looked at the time and it was 9:39, time really flies by, but sometimes it feels like an eternity to others.

"Umm, Makima?" Hiro started and Makima flinched when he said her name, it was the first time he had said it, and she felt so good when her name came out of her mouth. For some reason it made her feel special.

"Hmm?"

"I think I have to go home"

"So basically what they want to do is create hybrid demons to use as hunters to kill demons to keep the safety ratings higher?"

"Yes"

"And additionally they are training the demon of control to use it as a weapon"

"Yes"

Kishibe sighed being tired of this conversation but he knew that he should get more information from this woman.

"And if it doesn't work?"

"It will work" Yuna said determinedly.

Kishibe frowned, it felt like he was talking to a child about what he was doing wrong.

"You are playing with fire Yuna, the demon of control is something much worse than you can imagine. If you fail in even something insignificant, then you will doom us all"

Yuna was starting to lose her patience "It is for this reason that we decided to keep it a secret from the other hunters, so that they wouldn't be asking questions at all times. Listen Kishibe, I know each of the variants of this project, I am fully aware of all the evil that could cause a simple mistake. That's why they put me as the leader of this project, because I am the best trained person in the country, if there is someone who knows better than hell... that's me"

Kishibe and Yuna stared at each other with murderous, calculating eyes, each trying to formulate a response to destroy the other's.

Kishibe was the first to break the ice "If you mess it up... Then you'll be the first to die and unfortunately I won't be the one who will have the pleasure of killing you, you will die from the consequences of your actions"

With that said Kishibe got up from his seat and walked towards the entrance ready to leave.

Yuna gave a weary sigh, happy that this meeting is over "I think it goes without saying that you should keep this a secret, though of course by this point you probably already told Quanxi or she found out before I know how you two work" he told her as he got up from his seat.

"I think I should walk you out, you know to keep up appearances that our meeting went well."

Kishibe rolled his eyes irritated at the things Yuna would do just to keep up appearances "Do what you want, I don't care"

Kisibe opened the door and walked out with Yuna behind him.

"Okay kid it's time to go-" Kishibe couldn't finish his sentence when he noticed a small detail.

Hiro wasn't in his seat.

He wasn't sitting there, Kishibe remembered correctly, he brought a little boy with him and left him sitting outside the office, but he wasn't there.

He looked to both sides of the corridor, there was nothing, not a soul circulated in the place.

"Boy?" he said Kishibe again as if saying his name would magically bring him back.

"Wait a second did you bring someone else with you?" he heard Yuna's incredulous question but Kishibe paid no attention.

'This is bad, it's very bad'

Fear began to rise in Kishibe once he accepted that Hiro wasn't here, he left... Or they took him away.

Each of the scenarios flashed through his mind as to where Hiro might have gone. He maybe he took the elevator to see more places but the boy was still too cowardly to do it by himself. Another option was that Hiro probably never existed and it was just his imagination.

"Nop, the child did exist"

'So that means...'

Kishibe was now starting to panic, it couldn't happen right? This part of the building was supposed to be safe for anyone since it was an office environment, so he left Hiro here, just looked away from him for an hour and he was gone.

Of all the possible scenarios... The most terrifying came true.

Yuna was about to ask Kishibe more questions but then they heard the elevator doors on the left open, they both turned to see who was coming down, when the elevator opened completely the eyes of both adults went wide that almost jumped out of their sockets because of the scene they were seeing.

The ones who came down from the elevator were Hiro Takahashi and Makima, the two of them were holding hands and one of them was smiling while the other (Hiro) looked embarrassed.

Hiro looked down the hall and could see Kishibe and a woman who were looking at him in shock at what they were witnessing. Hiro's eyes also widened in surprise realizing that he was late, Kishibe realized that he ran away.

"Oh, eeeh hehe, hello" he tried to say with a forced smile.

"HIRO!?" Kishibe yelled.

"MAKIMA!?" Yuna yelled.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHA OH FRIEND THE IRONY IS KILLING ME HAHAHAHA"

"This is a satire, Kishibe didn't want Makima to get close to Hiro but in the end it did happen... And they're holding hands, interesting"

"So... are we going to kill someone? Because I feel like this guy is ready to kill that girl"

Hiro visibly flinched when Kishibe yelled his name, he had never heard him yell like that but he could tell he wasn't angry, just very surprised.

Was it because of Makima? Did he know what she really was? Hiro felt how Makima's grip on his hand tightened, he looked at her and realized that her gaze had now darkened and she was looking at Kishibe with a death glare, her eyes seemed to look at him with daggers, she was angry, very angry., and he didn't have to be smart to know that she was ready to kill anyone who came near her.

On the other hand, Kishibe still didn't believe what his eyes were seeing, Hiro was with Makima... With the demon of control... Holding hands... And he was still alive... WHAT THE FUCK?

This was a nightmare scenario, he couldn't believe it, Hiro was with the demon of control as if they were lifelong friends, he only neglected for a few moments and he had already done something stupid. He had to be more careful, he should never have brought Hiro to this place, now he was at the mercy of one of the most powerful demons in the world and it was all his fault.

He also realized that Makima was looking at him with a bad face, Kishibe looked back at him and instinctively his left hand went to his knife that was placed in his coat. He had to think about it calmly, he had to devise a plan to get Hiro out of this, maybe he could use all her speed and take Hiro to get as far away from her as possible. Makima shouldn't be that strong at this point, or at least she was so he wanted to imagine.

"Hiro..." Kishibe told her slowly getting her attention "Come here right now"

Hiro obeyed and managed to get out of Makima's grasp to her surprise, only to feel her sweater being held on to him. Hiro looked back and realized that it was Makima who was holding him again, his gaze softened a bit when he looked at Hiro, that made Dr. Yuna go dumbfounded.

"Everything's fine?" Hiro asked in a whisper.

Makima looked at him with her bright yellow eyes that Hiro was liking "Will you be alright?"

Hiro nodded with a smile trying to ease his concern "Of course, Kishibe is my guardian after all"

Yuna gasped when she heard that and stared at Kishibe with her mouth open in disbelief that Kishibe is the guardian of a child.

Makima sighed but looked back at Kishibe with a glare.

Hiro was watching all this staring battle with concern so he made the most sense of it "Um Makima, I really have to go, Kishibe finished his meeting so it's time for both of us to go"

With some hesitation and sadness, Makima finally let go of Hiro so he could be free and go off with that damn guardian of his that she wasn't liking. Hiro walked normally until he reached Kishibe but not before bowing in a greeting as he passed Yuna who looked like she was going to faint.

Hiro looked at Kishibe with guilt-filled eyes "I... I can explain."

"We're leaving" Kishibe quickly and with one last dark look directed at Makima, he took Hiro by his hips and lifted him up to put him on his shoulder and carried him like he was a sack of potatoes.

"OW, hey wait what are you doing!?" Hiro blushed with embarrassment at what Kishibe was doing, he was embarrassing him in front of Makima and that... He didn't like him, for some reason he felt he should make a good impression on her.

"I'll see you later Dr. Yuna" Kishibe said without looking at Yuna and heading to the elevator.

Hiro tried to look at Makima from her embarrassing position "M-Makima, I hope to see you again" he waved her hand goodbye and Makima waved back.

Kishibe felt that he was going to spit blood from what Hiro said.

He finally got to the elevator, lowered the boy, pressed the button that would take them down. The doors closed leaving a very confused Yuna and a melancholy Makima in the corridor.

Yuna looked at Makima with wide eyes "Who was that kid?"

Makima smiled, but it was a sincere smile that came from her heart "He is my friend"

Notes: Holy shit, this became too long.

OK ok, I'm sorry for the delay but you already know that I publish first on wattpad and this chapter became very long, in total there were 10557 without counting the final notes. I hadn't written that much since the third chapter.

Damn I think I outdid myself.

I hope you guys loved this chapter, I can't believe it's finally reached 10 chapters. The idea for this story was born from the question: what would have happened if someone had hugged Makima? And finally it happened.

Our beloved protagonist Hiro managed to hug Makima and since now the events of Chainsaw Man have changed drastically.

What consequences will this have? We'll see.

After almost a year of creating this story I finally got to this point. It feels good, I hope I don't run out of ideas.

Makima and Hiro have a lot to go through and their story will surely be interesting. It should also be added that the story is currently based on 1980, so Denji was born around those dates, just to keep it in mind.
