Chapter Three - The Ever Growing Darkness
Edward Cullen P.O.V
After dropping Bella at home I made my way across town to my own finding all of the cars gone upon my return. Jasper stood at the front door his arms crossed in front, his eyes following mine as I got out from my car and made my way towards him.
"Well I knew this was coming, didn't expect it would be you though" I said stopping at the bottom of the stairs.
Jasper made his way towards me then keeping his arms crossed and his eyes on mine, just waiting for a single movement, any excuse to put me down where I stood.
"We all thought it would be best coming from me"
"The most out of control one of us all to challenge the most controlled"
"If you were in control of what's happening to you we would be none the wiser to it. You didn't hide it well enough, brother. The amber contacts to hide the red, the fresh set of clothes in the trunk of your car just in case you get any blood on you in the moment. It's more amateur than professional wouldn't you say?"
"What are you planning to do?"
"There's been talk"
"There's been talk" I repeated nodding my head.
"Frankly the girls have more sympathy for you than our father does"
I laughed at that and looked away from him for the first time.
"But in the end we all came to an agreement"
"So what now, brother?" I asked locking eyes with him almost causing him to take a step back
"It's very simple. You stop right here. Right now. Or we will take over what happens next"
"Which is?"
"First, we'll tell Bella"
I stepped forward upon hearing that, the beast within me as protective of her as I was.
"We'll take her away. Far away from you. We'll keep her from you until she's left this world"
"Idol threats"
"No you know we have the resources to do it. Not to mention the man power to put you down if need be"
I smirked at him which made him uneasy, he was strong minded but he needed some work on hiding his emotions, especially his own fear.
"What else?" I shrugged "They wouldn't have left you alone just to tell me that"
"They're close enough"
"No they're not" I tilted my head ever so slightly "You forget how stronger the senses are with human blood back in your system. If they were here I would know it" With that I edged closer again "So what now?"
Jasper stared me out.
"What now?" I repeated.
"You're going to leave"
"Oh am I?"
"Tonight"
Jasper stepped forward to the top of the stairs and stared down at me.
"The girls don't feel safe and I don't trust Emmett not to lose it with you, given your choice of tall blonde victims"
My smirk dropped upon hearing that. I just had a taste for them, it didn't make them my favourite choice.
"You pack up and be gone within the hour" Jasper turned away from me to leave
"And if I don't?"
"Then I'll send Emmett to show you the door"
With that Jasper disappeared out of sight before another word could be said on the matter. I made my way into the house and at full speed made my way upstairs through the house and up to my room closing the door behind me.
They wanted me gone. That didn't mean anything to me right now, besides they didn't have it in them to kill me. I knew them and they seem to have forgotten that part. They'd been off human blood for some long they had forgotten what it does to you, everything inside isn't only made stronger but it's as it switches everything back on. So many senses and strengths that are blocked from us the second we start chowing down on mountain lions instead of screaming blondes.
Jasper was an idiot, he let slip that they hadn't told Bella of their discovery which was a big mistake. If she didn't know than I still held the power over them.
Five hours later I was still upstairs in my room reading a favourite piece of mine when my room door was kicked down and one by one they all entered together. I lowered the book in my hands and placed it on my chest.
"Hello family" I greeted them
"Son"
"I think we all know who holds the cards here" I told them as I got up from my chair keeping my book clasped in my hand.
"So here is how it's going to be, I'm going to keep doing what I want, when I want and as often as I want. If even one of you threatens to expose my little feeding habits to Bella then there will be a serious price to pay"
"Such as?" Rosalie asked from behind Emmett who kept her from my line of sight.
"I'll not only expose your secret to this sad excuse of a town. But I'll cause so much bloodshed that the wolves will descend down on every last one of you"
"Edward, this isn't you"
"No it is and I'm done talking"
With that I placed my book down and collected my jacket from the back of my chair, walking over to the open windows before me and leaping from them down to the ground.
"Where are you going?" Emmett called as I made my way towards my car.
"Don't wait up"
I was off to see Bella.
